ABC announces new 'Bachelor' Ben Flajnik

It's been rumored that “Bachelorette” fan favorite Ben Flajnik was to be the next “Bachelor," and now ABC has confirmed the reports.

Businessman Flajnik (pronounced Flannick), 28, will search for true love again in the next edition of ABC's hit reality series.

On last season’s finale of “The Bachelorette,” Ben proposed to Ashley Hebert but was rejected - although he did gain the sympathy of millions of viewers.

The network notes that Flajnik has been in love three times, with Ashley being the third lucky lady. Despite his “Bachelorette” rejection, Ben is ready to get back in the saddle and search for the woman of his dreams on reality television.

According to ABC, the Sonoma winemaker is a “rare, modern Renaissance man” who enjoys many hobbies and crafts, including crab fishing, singing in a tribute band, and landscaping.

Flajnik attended the University of Arizona, where he majored in music production, but moved home to Northern California after graduation. Ben is close with his mom and sister (sadly, dad passed in 2007) and shares his home with a Jack Russell Terrier named Scotch.

“The Bachelor” returns to ABC in January 2012, but you can catch Ben's first public appearance as the new “Bachelor” during the season finale of "Bachelor Pad," Monday, September 12.

What do you think of the network’s new “Bachelor”? Will you tune in for Ben?

I'm very, very, happy that Blake & Holly are engaged to be married but, I thought they could have been more tackfull & told Micheal on the side before the show started that they were engaged so, it wouldn't be to much of a surprise to him & that was Holly place of doing with Blake standing beside her. Blake could of taken people to the side on the show & told them that he had feelings for Holly & it wouldn't been so hard on him in the house. Like Melissa, Erica, Michelle so that they wouldn't get onto his back about Holly. Dotsye-Marie

Most Definately. I do not think Ben is boring, I just think he is more reserved than most of the other Bachelors. If anyone can remember, he was up for almost anything Ashley threw at him. What a Great Sport!!

I think he's a lot funnier and has more personality than his edit on the show. I've seen a youtube clip of him and a buddy doing a sort of "D@#k in a Box"- similar to what Timberlake did with Samberg on SNL. Funny! I for one look forward to the show- it's my guilty pleasure!

To me Ben is just not appealing. And I agree with those who said enough with the retreads. ABC has to realize that we are tired of seeing the runners up become the new center of attention. For me, in it's present format, the Bachleor/ette has run it's course. You'll find me on HGTV or the Food Network to fill in the time before Castle.

Ho Hum! Another white reject from this show. I guess it's only a white show that only whites are chosen to be in and chosent to head? I've grown suspect of the production of both ABC shows. Only white contestants, wow. I'm sure their are other going out for these shows. And I'm sure others have have wanted to be on and one of the heads of these shows. Why not?????? That's my problem after years of production. I wonder why no questions are raised about this after years of only white casts and one look. Boring now see this over and over Nothing new or different here. I'll pass on this and the others like this. This is a nation of color but none on this show or the others. I would like to see this so everyone could see this is real and not fake like these again and again. What about a Black Bachelor with Black of all shades that are not overweight but very fit with curves.

I'm so sick of reality tv in general. How stupid is America. I miss the days of good sitcoms with family values. How do these people expect to find "true love" in the middle of caddy games, fake smiles, and a self motivated attempt to become famous? Really. If u want "true love" go to church!

Ashley who turned down Ben and is with JR was gross. Totally unattractive with a stupid immature personality. Have NO idea why either guy wanted her. I was hoping neither would propose to her, that would have been funny and put her in her place, haha. A few months with her away from the cameras and vacation spots and I bet this JR will have had his fill. No way anyone could stand her longer than six months. She's gonna wish she chose safe Ben here.

Nice guy, but about as exciting as dirt. ABC has gotten into a string of disappointing, unattractive and boring leads on this show, from Jillian Harris and Ashley Hebert to Brad Womak and Jake Pavelka. I don't get how any of these people rated their own show. Unfortunately, they need the crazy/weird cast members like Bentley just to keep these shows halfway interesting.

I stopped watching the 'bachelor' after I realized the lack of diversity. They're always white, fairly attractive, middle to upper class man/women. There's always a token minority who gets kicked off the first or second episode. When will ABC have a non-white bachelor/bachelorette. We exist.

Whoever complains that the show doesn't have enough racial diversity – HELLO- get a clue minorities DO NOT comprise a majority of people- duh! The show caters to the MAJORITY of people- and to that same majority that can afford to BUY the products of their sponsors (i.e. have JOBS). Of course, if you want to watch chapter 11 commercials, ambulance chaser commercials, and how to get out of debt commercials, then sure, ABC would switch formats to cater to those same people that watch springer... Oh wait- those are minority!

We have been loyal Bachelor franchise fans from the beginning. Now we have complaints and we are not alone and ABC isn't listening, so I guess they are willingly sacrificing our household(s). 1) Please stop recycling the participants and rejects into subsequent cycles, 2) please inject some racial or ethnic interest into the concept, 3) please quit with the helicopter flights - enough is enough, and 4) please stop loading the casts up with obvious freaks and psychos who dilute the field of contenders and undermine the integrity of the concept. In summary, the Producers have twisted this concept so the Producers need to fix this. Or else. :)

Agree!! Most of them are buff or slim, hot and beautiful yet we are lead to believe they can't find love? I know love is hard for everyone, but these folks can't have trouble finding a date.

However, with that said, I think their crazy behavior is what holds them back. :-) LOL Remember the woman that Travis kicked off and she screamed, "My eggs are rotting!". LOL If they behave that way on TV for the entire world to see, I can only imagine how they behave in "real life".

Agreed. Not good TV at all. Sweet enough heart, but just dreadfully, frightfully boring.

Also, I'm quite sic of the new Bachelor(ette) coming from the previous crop of datees. Find someone new. Ashley was merely "meh" as the Bachelorette and Ben is going to be even worse as the Bachelor. Time to start over.
