Fans of “The Hunger Games” got a sneak peek at the upcoming film, set to hit theaters in March 2012, during the MTV Video Music Awards last night.
The clip - presented via satellite by Oscar-nominated Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss Everdeen in the flick - clearly left some folks wanting more.
At about 45 seconds long, the footage features Lawrence’s character running through the forest, dodging fires and shooting her bow and arrow.
@jfwong tweeted: “The 'Hunger Games' teaser trailer is enough to satisfy fans who know what the scene is about, and confuse the heck out of everyone else.”
Another user, @danidraws, tweeted: “Ahhh! Why must you be so short and unrevealing, you blasted 'Hunger Games teaser!' ”
But the brief sneak peek didn’t disappoint everyone.
Samus Belle, of “Hunger Games” fan site Sparkswillfly.org, told MTV: “That was epic. I'm so excited. Especially seeing Jennifer Lawrence running through the whole arena, she looked like a hunter. She just captured Katniss onscreen.”
What did you think of the footage?
Were you pleased to see Lawrence as Everdeen? Do you wish Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) had made an appearance in the teaser? Let us know in the comments below.
I can't wait to see the movie. I like this cover of Safe and Sound by a girl who reminds me of Prim.
I was hoping for a longer clip and to see Peeta but it definitely left me wanting more! I can't wait for the movie! Josh is going to make a GREAT Peeta! He has the personality for it without even trying!!!!
Liam Hemsworth would've made a better Peeta, IMO....
The trailer could have been so much better. All she did was walk through the woods, dodge a falling tree, and quickly shoot an arrow. Most of the fans (myself included) only OK'd the casting because Lionsgate said she was the best actress. For the fans who are still unsure, showing a clip where she barely has to act was not the best plan. The action wasn't that intense, and it honestly didn't leave me wanting more; it just left me disappointed that Lionsgate isn't trying to show fans they really did pick the right girl.
I was SO mad I stayed up 2 and a half hours watching the stupid VMAs just to get a 10 second video of her running through the woods.I was so frustrated I threw the channel changer at the TV and went to bed.I REALLY wanted to see Peeta I don't care what Gale said to her I've read it all before (pun intended). I would have been happy to have waited another month or so,so they would have had enough material to give us more.
the only reason i was disappointed was cause i wanted at least a glimpse of peeta and/or gale, even if just for a millisecond. but i still loved it cause i actually know what's going on!
at first i was disappointed by the shortness of the clip but in the end it was perfect... it left me wanting more... i do wish they would have shown Peeta but now i'm even more exited to see Josh as Peeta seeing how well Katniss turned out...
I was totally dissapointed in the clip they showed. I for one have read the trilogy several times and Im not sure I even like Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss Everdeen"s role. She doesnt embody Katniss to me the way I envisioned her while reading the books. She has some BIG shoes to fill. I was bummed that Peeta or Gale wasnt shown in the clip either. I am though, looking forward to seeing the movie and hope that they were able to stay as close to storyline of the books as possible!! Cant wait for March 2012!
Loved the clip. Loved Jennifer in The Winter's Bone. The Hunger Games has been voted as Sarasota County Library System's One Book One Community for 2011-2012.
I was extremely excited while watching it. So much that my yelling made me miss Rue's melody, so I had to rewatch it online! I also wish they would have shown Peeta, but I was happy with how it turned out. It was a teaser trailer, so I knew it wasn't going to show much. I am also concerned about the people who have never read the books (like my husband.) They have no clue what that scene was.
I was just annoyed that Rue's melody sounds like the X-Files theme. It won't get out of my head!!!
Unfortunately, I lost power at home, courtesy of Hurricane Irene, but I caught it this morning online at work. I think that the people who say they disliked the trailer, mainly disliked it because it's short and only shows Katniss. I don't think they actually HATE it. It accomplished what it was set out to do....leave you craving more. I, like some others, was a little let down by the fact that there were no othe characters shown but ultimately, I thought it looked great and pretty much got me excited for the next snippet they want to give us.
i see this being a flop. they should of used a black person for this film.
Do you even know how to read?
I agree :)
Obviously this is not a black person, just some AH who wants to make negative racial comments. This is not a matter of color, it's about a movie trailer review. And if you are a real fan you wouldnt have said that because you would know who is playing in the movie!
it was okay.... but not as good as I'd hoped, I wanted at least Peeta in it. but I do think it really captured Katniss! I'm sooooooooooo excited for the movie!
yah I wish it was longer too but I still thought it was great!!!!! Im kind of bummed that they still didnt show Peeta (TEAM PEETA) but theyre probably going to show him soon enough. loved hearing that whistle at the end – I bet thats for Rue!
also if you look on Twitter right now all the hunger games fans are talking about how the Capitol knows who they are and linking to this site: http://thecapitol.pn I think it has something to do with the #WhatsMyDistrict hashtag from the trailer – I cant wait to see what it turns out to be!
Woo TEAM PEETA! I loved him in the story! They definitely needed Peeta and Gale in the previews! Already saved the date in my calendar!
Don't be a hater, tzurd.
