Has Chris Brown finally risen above the controversy?
It's been two years since the singer pleaded guilty to felony assault on then girlfriend Rihanna. Since then, he has continued to make music, and generally tried to keep his career on track.
His performance at Sunday’s MTV Music Video Awards is being hailed as one of the evening’s stand outs.
Brown took to the stage, dressed in a white suit, to his song “Yeah 3X” before launching into classic tracks - “Protect Your Neck” by Wu-Tang Clan and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” All the while, he and his dancers performed a series of intricate, choreographed moves.
When he transitioned into his song “Beautiful People,” he flew across the stage and turned flips above the audience via thin cables, landing periodically to continue his dance moves. He ended with some very "Matrix"-like moves.
The response on Twitter was immediate.
Prophex tweeted "#ChrisBrown. IS a Beast" while user Manny Versace tweeted, "Best performance so far #ChrisBrown." Laurel Berryman tweeted, "#chrisbrown by far does the most memorable performances at these award shows. Dream big."
Not that he was without his detractors. Logan Dukes tweeted "I don't [sic] how good you can sing and dance you still can't beat up a female like that.#chrisbrown," And Shak Dizzle wrote #ChrisBrown beat a woman down, did you guys forget that. He gets no respect."
