Carrie Fisher reveals 50 pound weight loss

Over the past nine months, actress Carrie Fisher has lost 50 pounds, and she’s showing off her slimmer silhouette, reports People.

The Jenny Craig spokeswoman appeared on Wednesday’s “Today” show and spoke about her weight loss journey.

The former “Star Wars” actress, 54, showed off her new bod for "Today" host Ann Curry, who exclaimed, "Holy cow!”

Curry joked, “Where’s the rest of you?” To which Fisher quipped, "I don't want to know, because then I'd have to go get it.”

On what life was like 50 pounds heavier, Fisher says she "couldn't leave the house [to go shopping], because they didn't have sizes [large enough]...I exhausted the alphabet on bra sizes."

The actress and author added that she relied on her Jenny Craig consultant, who functioned as someone "to complain to, stamp my fat foot and say I didn't want to do it." Of the plan’s food, the actress/author says she enjoyed eating cereal, because "it tastes like contraband."

Fisher’s slim and trim again, but no word on if she’ll slip back into her Princess Leia metal bikini.

Agreed. I saw her interviewed on the Today show about her wt loss and she's still not in touch w/ reality on a few things. Most notable during the discussion, she believes that her breasts are what made her appear overweight. DENIAL! In fact, her VERY large stomach made her breasts go virtually unnoticed. Luckily, she was able to overcome what was possibly metabolic syndrome.

Nonetheless, I'm very happy for her wonderful step towards achieving both physical and mental health.

She's ready for her closeup in Star Wars VII. Lucas always said the actors would have aged a lot if it ever got made because he knew that he would need to first make I, II, and III first. I believe he predicted a launch date of 2011 at best. It would be nice to see Harrison, Hamill, and Fisher back together on screen. Its not that Lucas is at a want for scripts as there have been dozens of them floating around for VII. I remember one that killed off Chewy. No matter what I think I'm 99 percent sure it will never happen. Lucas is just not interested because he's a 19 sandwich eating slob now.

No they don't, they cut thier hair becuase they are turning into lesbians. Thats the only reason. If you see a woman over 40 without short hair she is not a lesbian, if she has short hair then she is a lesbian.

I actually saw her in the gold bikini slave outfit in person. I ran across her and a photographer at the beach taking photos for the cover of Rolling Stone, just about the time the third movie came out. She looked pretty hot, but she also seemed very stoned or something. The highlight of the event was when the photographer told her to get in the water for some shots. The water was about 60 degrees, and that bikini was obviously never meant to actually get wet. After her shrieks subsided, an assistant attempted to carry her back to her trailer in the parking lot (she had no shoes), and he tripped while carrying her down a rocky, dirty slope. They both went tumbling down, while she cursed at him like a sailor.

Yes, I'd like to see her in that bikini again.

The article is correct; she's currently 54. Birthday is October 21, 1956. Star Wars premired in June 1977, so 20 at that time (birthday's in Oct, so yes, 20), and 19 for the making (principle photography was March-June of '76, hadn't yet turned 20).

@Sherr ~ Ask your utlity companies to put you on a budget plan. This way your utlity bills will be about the same year long (usually +/- 10%). @sosideirish ~ read my suggestions for @Sherr and maybe some will help you. For people that have suggested books to read/buy ~ remember discount/used bookstores. Here in Texas we have stores called Half-Price Books. Always great resources as well as the public library.

@Sherr (cont.) ~ 7. Find an "exercise buddy" someone to help hold you accountable. 8. Go to Wal-Mart sport section & for about $5 get a pedometer. Wear it everyday & journal the number of steps taken. The experts recommend 10,000 steps a days. (Don't be overwhelmed ~ just try to add maybe 20-50/day) 9. Hold yourself accountable & journal everything you eat & drink ~ from food to water to a Tic-Tac. Another form of accountability. (That includes how much sugar/cream in coffee/tea too.) 10. Make sure you keep your doctor(s) informed of what you're doing & how you're doing it. They'll probably agree that it's a great thing. Losing weights makes it easier for your lungs & heart to work & it reduces your chances for becoming diabetic. It also makes you feel better & gives you reasons to be proud of yourself & smile inside & out! Don't expect more than 1-2 lbs/wk though to be successful. Exercise can actually become enjoyable & invigorating. GOOD LUCK SHERR & ALL DIETERS!!!

Obviously she has lost weight, and looks good.
They really didn't need to resort to a photography trick.
Notice the fat picture she is facing the camera straight on. A very unflattering pose. Such an angle tends to make a person look fatter.
In the slimmed pose her body is at a 45degree angle to the camera – a slimming look.
I reveal this little bit of information so those of you doing family pix – turn your body 45degrees. It is not only slimming but makes you look less stiff.
You have a neck, turn your head toward the camera. As a special bonus tip, a high camera angle is more slimming than a low one – don't look under the chin.

@Sherr ~ @Kris, @Chuck, and @CJB all gave you great advice. Here is a little more: 1. If you favorite vegetables are not in season (and therefore more expensive) buy frozen then thaw & either steam or microwave. 2. When lean proteins go on sale buy as much as you can afford and divide into smaller packs and freeze (if chicken has the skin on ~ just take it off) 3. My husband just bought me a smaler stove top grill pan for like $15 at Aldi and I love it (it is too hot to use the oven or grill outside in all these 100+ days in Texas right now ~ so it works great & is non-stick so hand washing it is a breeze) 4. Sweet potatoes are one of the best nutritionally packed vegetables out there. Try them baked, baked wedges sprinkled w/ cinnamon like a steak fry, or mashed w/margarine & non-fat milk. 5. Drink half your body weight in water everyday (example 200lbs = 100 ozs). 6. Start walking. You may only be able do a little at first but the more you do the further you will go.

Don't mean to discourage anyone. Loosing weight is the priority... . But it seems unfair that people like Kirstie, and Marie and the others always make it seem like "the diet did it all".. B.S...

      Sherr,

I recommend you read the following book. "The Ultimate Metabolism" by Dr Mark Hyman.

Follow his advise and you lose weight, feel better, and have more energy to go out and earn the extra $ you want.

      Best wishes to you.

Ned is almost right. Mark Hyman's book is called "UltraMetabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss". There is another book called "Ultimate Metabolism Diet: Eat Right for Your Metabolic Type"by Scott Rigden.

Eating healthy is actually cheaper if you increase vegitable and fruit portions, eat smaller lean meat portions (like chicken) and cut our processed foods of any kind as much as possible.

It's the processed "health" foods that cost more.

It's not that expensive. Breakfast is Coffee with slim milk, and yogurt. String cheese for a snack. I make homemade Chicken and Vegetable Noodle Soup for lunch. Another yogurt for a snack. Then I have some Black Bean Soup and salad. With air pop popcorn for a nightime snack. I spend less than 8 dollars a day...

      Sherr,
You are NOT going to get off that easy.
Walk walk walk! Get out of the house and WALK! Increase your metabolism...Drink lots of water...eat less processed foods. Excuses are half of overweight people's problems...I can't afford healthier foods...so, eat LESS of unhealthy foods...don't drink sodas LOADED with sugar...assuming you do...and diet sodas are no better. Say "nay" to fast food...discipline and the lack thereof is most of the problem. Take it one day at a time and little by little you will get more strength and gumption to do it! I cut alcohol and caffiene out of my diet and started eating baked potato chips instead of fried and lost 50 lbs just doing that. I am still slim also. You can get help online...do it! Instead of saying you can't, research a way that you CAN! Good luck! I am rooting for you!

It is not expensive to eat less food & more vegetables – but it's not as quick and easy as getting a value meal from McDonald's. If you want to lose weight, you have to put in the effort, and not blame your income or society. I know it's not easy, but I also know it's possible. I lost 130 pounds in 12 months, and I am not wealthy.

If you can't afford different food. then eat less of whatever it is you eat now. It does not take much less, say only a 10% cut. You loose weight and save 10% on food bill.

That said, healthy food costs less not more. Buy only loose, raw ingrediants, nothing that comes in a box. For example rice in a 20 pound bag is way-cheap compared to minute-rice in a box. You don't need speacial food, just LESS food.

Sorry, Sherr, but healthy food is NOT more expensive. Not if you really look at what you're buying. Sure, fatty meat is cheaper per pound, but more of each pound is fat. 3 pounds of 70/30 ground beef only gives you 2.1 pounds of meat - .9 lbs is fat. So if you buy 2 pounds of 93/7 you get about the same amount of good meat. And even if you really are tight on funds, you can always grow some perfectly wonderful vegetables yourself. Even in an apartment. Google "container gardening". $20 worth of seeds will grow an incredible amount of vegetables. Learn to preserve/can vegetables and fruit, and you can eat healthy all year around. Both my grandmothers raised 4 healthy children each with very little money, but plenty of healthy work raising a garden. Don't make excuses, make changes.

I started a diet it mid may, calorie restriction. 1200-1500 calories per day. I've lost 32 pounds ( need to lose 10 more for a bmi of 23, ideal weight). It's absolutely free but I would recommend investing in a digital gram scale (10-20$) to measure serving sizes. I have probably saved over $1000 from not eating out and eating less. Michaelinas lean frozen meals are only $1. You can buy boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.50-$2.00 a pound, cheap lean meat, cheaper than 70/30 ground beef. You can do it on any budget!

Did NOBODY read that Sherr said she had HEALTH ISSUES with her HEART AND LUNGS? Dieting and exercise are not easy for those of us with health issues that prevent certain activities. I am under strict doctor's orders not to do any kind of cardio vascular exercise, and I am not supposed to be exposed to extreme temperatures. I've ignored his advice, and it could be that one day I'll be exercising or swimming or playing kickball and fall over and drop dead because of my desire to have a more active lifestyle, but even doing as /little/ as I do is extremely difficult. And no, it doesn't help me lose weight. "One size fits all" approaches to health care and weight loss do NOT fit all. Cut the woman some slack. If she has heart and lung problems, she's likely not able to go out and play tennis, okay? Or maybe even /walk/ a block.

Sherr, obviously people commenting did not read your health issues. Heart and lung problems will make a difference and limit your ability to walk ect. You can subsitute some healthy alternatives but yes wheat bread costs more than white and canned veggies on sale last longer than fresh ones and are cheaper. Hang in there and try to do a little more each day and cut back on portion size and see how it goes.

Losing weight isn't rocket science. Eat less, move more. You don't need pills or gimmicks. And you don't need expensive food either. To lose weight, you'll be eating less so it isn't like you'd need the volume of food that you are used to buying now. Anyway, the first step is making up your mind that you can do it. And you can. I promise.

All the more reason if Sherr has health problems to eat healthy and walk. I agree with all the posters concerning healthy fresh food. Sometimes it is the portion sizes (one shouldn't eat) that create the cost.
