There’s a new MTV starlet in town, but this isn't just another Lauren Conrad.
The network will debut a new reality series in October, and while it features a familiar premise – girl moves to a big city to pursue fashion – newcomer Chelsea Settles is not only battling the transition, but also her weight. She weighs 324 lbs.
The network describes Settles, 23, as "a new kind of MTV heroine.” The show will follow the recent college grad as she arrives in Los Angeles from a small town near Pittsburgh, and will chronicle issues like her long-distance boyfriend, social phobias and weight loss.
The docu-drama appears to be a viewer-friendly blend of reality dramas like “The Hills" and weight loss programs like “I Used to be Fat” or “The Biggest Loser.”
“Chelsea Settles” premieres with a special hour-long episode on Oct. 11 at 11:00 p.m ET, and you can watch the trailer here. Will you tune in?

Sure thing Thank you for this entry, I dont agree exactly with it but I agree with it on the most part and I certainly applaud your effort in putting it so ably.
I don't understand the hatred in these comments. In the show, she's actively trying to lose weight and yet still she's being attacked. The show isn't promoting fat-acceptance. Chelsea Settles isn't out there saying to obese people that they should keep getting bigger. She's on a diet and exercise plan, apparently. Isn't that a good thing? Why not applaud her efforts to get healthy rather than ignore the fact that she's even trying? I'm somewhat of a health and fitness nut myself and I think some of you should be ashamed. Instead of bashing a fat person for being fat, why not offer to walk around the track with them every day or take them to Whole Foods and build them a healthy salad?
Yet another know-it-all who doesn't even believe in psychiatry. I'm now a vegan! I was very easy to go lacto-ovo vegetarian and then vegan because I don't even like meat/eggs. Prior to going veg, I've eaten chicken and fish once or twice a week, beef once or twice a month. I did not and do not fry my foods. I don't eat fast food and I don't go to restaurants; I cook at home. Nothing fried. I'm lactose intolerant. I don't drink milkshakes. I don't drink anything with sugar in it. No sugary soda. I used to drink lots of Diet Coke but I've given that up in favor of plain filtered tap water in the last six months!
You've cherry picked from my post. You do not know anything about the people you are bashing other than our size and to assume you do is the height of arrogance. Stop with the juvenile stereotypes. Grow up.
Is my weight okay? HELL NO! That's why I'm working every day of my life to change it before I do end up with diabetes or high blood pressure or another obesity-related illness! Does my weight make me somehow subhuman? I don't think so.
Before I opened the article, I figured when it said 'plus-size', the girl would be like 5'9" and about a size 6 or 8 and be something like 140 or 150 lbs. No, I do not think sizes below 10 should be considered 'plus size'. However, when I saw that the girl is 23 yrs. old and weighs 324 lbs., I thought, "wow, that is not plus size either; that's morbidly obese". No offense to Miss Settles at all but that is beyond "a few extra pounds". It made me think of a girl I worked with who was about the same age, about 5'4", and weighed a little more than 324 lbs. She had bariatric surgery and within a year, she was below 200 lbs. I have no idea what she looks like now because she moved and I have not been able to find her again. She's probably anorexic now because she moved to southern California, land of fruits and twigs and I'm not talking about the food. Anyway, I hope Ms. Settles gets on a healthy diet and exercise routine so she can get to a healthy weight. Good luck.
University of Colorado Law Prof. Is an expert in obesity research. All of you ignorant fuc*s need to read it.
178 IQ and Mensa membership says I'm a genius and reading this board proves it. Never seen so much ignorance perpetuated and now I know why uber-smart people actually consider eugenics.
Keep all the fat people and knock the rest of you with IQs below 150. The world would function better.
She should audition for Chubby Chasers.
She is not "big". She is not "thick". She is not "BBW". She does not "have a few extra pounds".
It is not accurate to call her fat. Or, for that matter, obese. She is MORBIDLY OBESE. Dangerously overweight.
To use these euphemisms like "big" is simply to intentionally minimize the severity of her weight problem.
I wonder what size tent she wears?
I betcha Ms 324 uses all her welfare and food stamps for frozen pizzas, malt liqour and donuts. FAT ASS!
She has a college degree. Why would you assume she's on welfare or food stamps. Do YOU have a college degree?
How can she possibly reach around and wipe that huge caboose? I bet she doesnt. She just takes huge poo poo and walks around until is drys, leaving a trail of buttCrust behind her. And I bet she drops a 5 flusher everytime she doodees. Some of her turds have got to be 4 feet long all swirled around the bowl and looking like a king cobra ready to strike. This one person, Ms 324, is responsible for more environmental waste that a family of 4. She is very nasty and always full of hot brown.
You know ole fatty is wolfin down a can of butter flavoredCrisco on a daily basis. She is really really fat and really really smelly.
ATTENTION ALL BUTTHOLE SURFERS!! Our ride approacheth!!
This show, like many others about obese people, is just a thinly disguised way of ridiculing the fat people. If you think about it, you will see that they are the only group left in America that can still be mocked. Any other group could legally call ridicule a "hate crime". Just cover up the mocking with a thin layer of "concern for their health" and let the laughter begin.
I'm sorry...were you all watching the same trailer that I was? She is not getting paid to force a mainstream media audience to accept "fat" people.
This is a story of a young woman from rural America, who chases her dream. The trailer even shows her working towards a healthy weight . Did you just disregard that entire angle of the show, so that you could still fit in negative comments about her body, and the image she is portraying?
ignorance is only rewarded by ignorance.
Another TV show about a fat imbecile
alwaysright, doubtful, always ignorant, easier to believe. Better a show about a lovely fat girl than a plain old imbecile like yourself.
Imbecile? She has a college degree. Do you?
No, Lee S; the biggest problem in our country is hateful, ugly, uncivil, ill-mannered jerks like you and others of your ilk; You will get back from those of us who are brave enough to deal with you what you give us. You do have a problem: you have a fat, ugly mouth. If you don't like the way we look; it seems you have a personal problem. Deal with it, because we don't care what you think, and we are not going away. I'm sure you are no raving beauty, and even if you were, your ugly mouth would ruin the impression. You must be a miserable person.
Sevencard 2003, I have never brokien a chair, but then I would never sit in one I didn't think would support me. .
I think she is beautiful!! It will be nice to see a woman who is not a twig. She's smart as well...a college GRAD!!! Who knows, maybe she gained the weight while attending college. Whatever the reason, I do worry about her weight. It is not about looks, it is about health. I have always stuggled with my weight and I fear diabetes because it runs in my family. She should lose weight for health reasons, not for any other reason. I don't know what she should weigh because I am not a doctor, but that just seems like a bad number. Of course, what if she is 7' tall? Either way, I wish her luck on the show and luck in her future endeavors!!!
I'm sure the show won't last long no matter how good it is just because its star is an overweight, black woman. Most people want to see some anorexic bleached blond with silicone everywhere on tv just check out any other network. The star of this show is a hero in my book just for getting this gig on MTV in racist America...
I'll bet the theme song is Spinal Tap's "Big Bottom". The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin!
America will eat itself to death. The LAST thing MTV need to do is promote obesity as a hip "lifestyle." This country is doomed.
Throw her a pork chop!!
Throwing her a pork chop would be too much like cannibalism.
"to pursue fashion" Exploitive Deleted YOU.
http://www.zazzle.com/mad_curves_tshirt-235789692288100111 Real men love girls with Mad Curves! I'm a size 10 – considered curvy by Hollywood. I made this T to celebrate the good in what I have and encourage others that you don't have to be a stick to have fun in life. Exercise and try to eat right for health's sake, but don't sweat the curves!!!
So this is news? They're putting someone on tv who isn't a size 2??!! As a plus size girl myself I say it's about time and so what? Why is the fact she's a plus size girl even an issue?
Oprah's done this already, so I don't know how this will help. But it would be nice if she lost the weight and inspired bigger girls to lose weight and make a change.
In a nation of porkers, this should be a guaranteed hit. I'm surprised no one thought of this before. Oh, wait, they did – it was called "Roseanne"
We should be encouraging these people to lose weight, instead of validating their obesity.
MTV thinks they're doing "plus-size" girls a favor by featuring one on one of its shows. But instead of sending a positive message (encouraging people to look beyond looks and make "plus-size" girls feel beautiful in ttheir skin), you're following her as she tries to lose weight to fit into our skinny-obsessed culture. Well done MTV!!!
Repulsive? The most repulsive thing I'm seeing here is so much judgement and hatred.
Those are the people who are really messed up.
She's a human being people. Until you start treating her as such it's my opinion that her weight is by far NOT the worst problem being displayed in these posts.
Will someone please remind MTV that it stands for Music TV not reality shows like "wives" that destroy peoples lives for profit and peoples never ending need to be in other peoples business. It's shows like this that are destroying this country, well that government, gangs (especially gangs, the war America should be fighting) and the news.
Why'd they have to make it about weight loss as well? Really, that ruins it for me.
I am all for bigger women on TV, but not when it's going to focus on weight loss.
well I hope I can get my commercials aired during this show. I'll make a fortune. who wants to look like that?
Most of the population, apparently.
why do people come on here to belittle others? its so sad and stupid
It's also human nature.
you guys are all stupid....its a dumb show, the same as the hills(which was very successful, you know, financially, idiots) except instead of a dumb blonde trying to break into fashion, its a fat black girl....my prediction is it will get maybe 3/4 of the ratings the hills got, since a lot of hot people will not watch but some new normal looking people might tune in....i am a hot person who will watch(rare) as i think this is a good thing for the universe and i watch too much tv.
I don't know what perverse impulse prompted me to read these comments, but I am nothing short of appalled and disgusted. There is absolutely no excuse to be so hateful and mean-spirited. One wonders what those of you spewing such bile (and frequently doing so in embarrassingly poor English) have to hide. There is obviously something wrong with anyone who would be so vicious and nasty for no reason. What happened, did a fat person kill your mother? Whatever happened to compassion? I"m sure that poor girl's life is no f***ing picnic. You people are vile and disgusting, and moronically ignorant to boot considering the level of your postings. You should all be hauled out to sea on a giant barge and strafed by a Stukka. Good riddance.
Stukkas are dive-bombers and were not particularly good for strafing.
That said, fat people tend to be the butt (!) of jokes and snide remarks. Solution? Quit glorifying obesity and lose weight. There's nothing attractive about anyone who looks like Bibendum (aka the Michelin Man).
@Uncle Fester: Thxs for the love babe, but, don't you have to go and drink a glass of battery acid? Anyway, I think you know I don't have that problem. You on the other hand..ummm..let's just say your name tells it all. I'm guessing you also go by the name Get a room? Nice to know I'm on your mind. Good night and sweet dreams ~ xoxo
324 pounds? She'd do well on a reality show filmed at a pork processing plant.
This hogs bush has to be huge!!!!
It's called FAT Not calorie-challenged, gravity-impeded or god forbid, "plus sized"?!?
"New Show About Fat Girl Seeks To Comfort TooLazyTo Try America"
So she's fat, big deal. It's just a word. I'm fat. I'm losing weight so I won't be fat anymore. No problem being called fat when it's true. The thing is, in this show she's working to lose weight. How is that promoting fat-acceptance? If anything, it's encouraging more obese people to follow in her footsteps and try to get healthy and down to a healthy weight. Isn't that a good thing?
I see they gave Beautiful Vixen her own show!
The American gene pool is badly tainted. Everyone that doesnt need to be breeding is breeding faster than those that actually contribute.
It's been that way for decades. Were screwed.
I am her weight, and I am 5'7". Yet no one can tell my age–they all think I am in my late teens or early twenties. TRY THAT at age 38. I get what I want, and more are waiting to give it to me. Enough said.
Heck, why not post a few pics to go with that braggin', jelly bean? Give us a few rolls with our entrée.
What a gorgeous looking chunk. I'd roll that in flour in a heartbeat.
Am I the only man who finds fat women disgusting? Don't they all wash with a rag on a stick?
Everybody KNOWS what it takes to be thin, right? Right.... I hope you can feel the sarcasm. Think about this for a minute. How do you learn something? It gets taught to you, right? You learn from parents, friends, and school. Well what if your parents are obese? With 2 obese parents you are practically guaranteed to turn out obese. School doesn't teach diet and nutrition...at least not when I was in school. And friends? Well, after I tried eating how my skinny friends ate I just got heavier and heavier. After a while you just accept (right or wrong) that you are "meant" to be heavy. People like to throw around the word "moderation" when describing how fat people need to start eating to lose the weight. It would be much easier if the word wasn't so damned subjective! You have to have skills and knowledge to lose weight. And then you need encouragement, perseverence, determination, support, and more will power than you ever thought you could have. I'm down 90 pounds so far with about 30 to go. Every day is a struggle. Go find a terrorist or child molester to hate, not the fat man or woman next door!
That's right – keep cramming that processed gunk into your gaping maw.
@Gacy – You're pathetic. I feel sorry for you as it sounds like you have a miserable life.
Oh good...another story about some fat water buffalo.

Hey, look! – it's a Rick Perry endorser.
When I first read the headline I assumed Opra was working again.
Ummm...I believe Snooki was their first plus-size reality star. Thank you.
numerology for Chelsea Settles:
She's cute in the face. I'd hit it! (Woke up sweating. Bad dream)
How does the word "star" get associated with reality TV? Real "***stars***" are of the caliber of Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman–artists whose body of work demonstrates a timelessness that never fades. Will anyone remember any reality TV show a hundred years from now? Let's raise our expectations, folks!
All "stars" are dead white people.
Just made this one up. Your mommas so fat she needs a fork-lift to eat.
I'm excited for this show!! Ideally, (responding to someone that said a "fat" girl and their lifestyle shouldnt be idolized) you are right, unhealthy lifestyles shouldnt be idolized, to that I ask... ""So its alright to idolize shows when they feature fit/in shape, morally challenged binge drinkers who curse and fight and screw randoms, but not when its a show about a level-headed career motivated "fat" girl?"" Who btw is EXTREMELY pretty!!! But to me, a show like this is motivation! I'm 5'9" and 210. I am well/evenly porportioned and while yall will call me fat, I actually attract some good lookin fellas haha I MUST say! LOL But shows like this encourage me to live healthier so that I dont get heavy like that. Fat Like Me and Heavy keep me wanting to hit the gym and I think it can do that for others as well! Hell yea MTV!!
If you think "big is beautiful" you need to lose some weight.
LOL, The name of the show is hilarious. She makes her house settle when she walks around probably. Another excuse for "its ok to be fat" ITS NOT You people are killing our healthcare system. Not too mention you look disgusting. I work in a restaurant and I see people that are so fat they cant sit in a booth and have to get a table. I would never leave my house I would be so embarrassed.
Definitely going to need the widescreen option.
Gee whiz. Sounds like tons of fun.
20 bucks says she starts acting like Diva. I don't mind thick girls but damn...324 lbs? I think i'll pass on watching this.
How can a 23 year old girl weigh 324 pounds, it's unbelievable and it is also disgusting. There is no way people like that can be called big and beautiful
How is this show any different than the Style Network's Ruby? Isn't Snookie plus size as well?
Snooki's chubby but she looks downright anorexic compared with this girl.
ANOTHER ugly fat bacon thighed Oprah wannabee 12 sandwhich, quadruple dipped ice cream eating mound of lard. DISGUSTING. She should do something called "Lipoe for the homeless" where she gets ALL that FAT sucked out and it is used to make bars of soap which wold be enough to give EVERY foul smelling dirty homeless bum in the USA a good bath. Other than that, what is she doing on television? Is Richard Simmons doing another Sweatin to the Oldies? Don't light a fart around her bazooka, you might just light up the whole house and everyone in it.
U GO MO
she's so fat then when she sits down on the toilet it goes "get off of me and then it can't even flush because of the suction from her tuckas"
TRUE DAT MYE BRUDDA
what a wonderful role model for young people everywhere. Maybe she can get an endorsement deal with the goodyear blimp or something. She looks like she'd be a ton of fun to hang around with. At first I thought that it was ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER'S picture.
Whatever MTV... Make it seem like it's OK to be overweight. Moat overweight people make the choice to be overweight and indulge in food and not exercise. This is not what America needs. Neither is a skinny twig. How about just make a healthy sized woman for once. It's always to the extreme.
AND TO THE IDIOTS WHO ARE SAYING THAT THIS SHOW IS SAYING ITS OKAY TO BE FAT.... have you watched that preview for the show on MTV.com? She's like crying half the time and getting called (in numberous ways) by strangers that shes fat. Her Doc tells her shes needs to lose weight, shes embarrassed all the time but still tries SO hard to hold her head up high. This show is NOT saying its okay to be overweight but that overweight ppl arent all couch potatoes who dont care if anything great happens to them. If anything this show also displays how Fkd up and cruel ppl can be towards strangers... just bc they are overweight. WHICH DOESNT DIRECTLY/PHYSICALLY AFFECT THEM (not getting into the health care costs aspects ppl) And inolerant ppl should be ashamed of themselves and their actions... their mothers would be embarrassed to know how destructively their chilldren offend others.
she's so beautiful and so young! please mtv, get her a nutritionist and put her on the right path – America loves a happy ending :)
WRONG! – America loves crap.
Pretty girl and she is trying to make something of herself which is more than we can say for a lot of America. I think we all can also agree that over 300 lbs is not a little chunky but morbidly obese. Hopefully, the show will also address health concerns for the overweight.
Am I the only guy in America who finds fat women so utterly disgsuting and foul that I'd rather stick a hot needle in my eye and have my fingernails removed with pliars than be with one? Nothing is more disgusting that a cottage cheese ridden fattie.
As long as she aint dating her dad, I think It'll be an ok show.
All this does is say to kids, hey it's OK to eat badly and risk a heart attack ... look even stars do it! Fat people are a walking time bomb health wise and a lousy example to kids.
I'm fat, and I don't care what none of ya think about it. But I will say I watch TV to be entertained, and would much rather see a hot skinny girl, than a morbidly obese chick on MTV. MTV is for mindless teenage entertainment, not ideological change. I turn that channel on to rub one out, not to learn about the struggles a fat chick goes through.
Look with the praise put on Michelle Obama and Oprah, who can blame a network for thinking the overweight black women is an idea that will work.
tihs is gross nobody wants to see a fat lard on tv shes pretty but can u picutre her in a swim suit gross ill be calling the bakeey satying i got some rolls u left behind. this is crazy
Reality shows.. How about don't watch it and go live your live.. unless that is to much reality.
Can't wait! I love watching fat, ugly people on TV!
It's sad that you have to introduce her via her weight. This is a very bright, confident and beautiful woman who is probably pretty wonderful. And that.. does not come with a number. And... it's sad that her weight.. is all that people will probably see .. period. Many take one look at her and immediately have drawn a conclusion. I would be willing to bet.. that woman goes farther in life than most do. And she has the guts.. to put herself out there and smile while she does it and I think its spectacular ...perhaps children that are on the heavier side of things.. will find hope and courage just by seeing this woman do her thing.
SHE'S VERY SLOVENLY . HEAT IN THE WINTER , SHADE IN THE SUMMER
I wont be watching. There is too much crap television on tv already. If I want to see 300+ pound black women I'll just go to Walmart.
i totally agree with u on that one
Gosh, I didn't know what to make of fat people until all these perfect people "weighed" in on the subject. Thank God all these people with no problems made it clear that fat people are disgusting. Whew. Without their advice I might have BEFRIENDED a fatty or even TALKED to a fatty.
No, I will most certainly not be tuning in to this.
America is so impoverished. So holding back.....not
Walk around Europe and try finding a fat person....not many in France thru Italy.
at that weight, i bet she adds 10lbs to the camera!
Another reason not to watch BMTV( Black MTV) , they have feeding us all this Hip Hop ( monkey music ) and in the process help elect an idiot to the white house and and promoting gutter music as mainstream .......i live in europe and the eastern Europe and so happy that do not have to see all this black crap on Mtv .......
@ Shad. Do you know what western Europeans think about you eastern Europeans? I can tell you that it is not very complementary.
How can she be a star when the series isnt even out yet?
For those picking on her weight – there was this famous runner that died... of a heart attack. (James Fixx). Dr. Atkins, founder of the diet – died of a heart attack. I think people should live and let live. It's very shallow to sit in judgement and call someone names when they cannot turn, observe you – and call you names. Would you say these same words to her face? With your parents sitting there? With someone you respect sitting there? This young lady is much MORE then her girth. I think some of you really need to examine your own life – because when you can sit there and call someone a cow, an make fun of their weight, you ... seem to be the one with issues.
fat people have taken over our country and its NOT OK. Ill bet youre a lil portly there yourself. I think it should be socially acceptable to bash fat people to their face. Im offended by the presence of someone in my vicinity that doenst have the common courtesy to at least not look like an amorphous blob coming out sandals and shorts that are beyond revealing. That is disgusting and I am offended by that, how can people even leave their houses looking like that? They must have thrown their mirrors and pride away a long time ago.
Dr. Atkins' heart attack was caused by a virus. It's called myocarditis and it has *NOTHING* to do with diet.
Dr. Atkins fell on a frozen sidewalk in NY and got severe head trauma. His diet wasn't the problem. Extra fat does tax the heart harder. The girl on the show has a nice face. She would probably look amazing at half her weight.
MTV should be MTV not reality TV!!! thats what really gets me! i agree with one comment above "why isnt this on BET instead of MTV??? back in the day, MTV was soo fun to watch, keep up with the new music trends, watch great videos (i.e, back in the Madonna days) -to me its irrelevant how much she weighs-thats how she got this reality show, bottom line for me is MTV is a music/video channel not a reality TV channel–there are enough reality shows these days anyway–they are getting boring and mundane already!!!! too much of a good thing! I love lucy reruns would be better!!!!!
And another person who's life will be destroyed by "reality TV."
She is not going to make it long in that industry looking like that. Sorry if that sounds mean, but it's the truth. The fashion industry is all about looks. While she does have a pretty face...that's all she has going for her. It's a shame that MTV is profiting off of her obesity and not doing anything to help her.
A fat girlfriend can give you many things. Primarily shade in the summer and heat in the winter. Big is NOT beautiful folks.
Pass the ham hocks, chitlins, and collard greens. Come on....this woman is MORBIDLY OBESE. Americans are way too fat. Our country is in big trouble and not just from King Hussein Obama and Queen Michelle Obama. Wake up folks!
Yes, lets show the country why Obamacare can never work. As long as people aren't kicked off the plan for being obese, every American is going to have to pay the price for their inability to put down a fork.
A fork? LOl, these people are fed with a fork lift. HAHA.
Watch out Glee!!! MTV now has Chocolate Blunder added to their lineup.
I still don't understand why it is called MTV. It's all about manufactured reality.
O wait-Manufactured Television-I get it. Kinda like the "Holy Bartender" joke.
Just sad MTV just sad. Play music vids again PLEASE. Stop the BS
Are those extensions or real hair?
How hard is it to land in the middle on the weight issue? All I see on tv is one extreme or the other. These 100lb twigs look like they need a couple of turkey dinners during the week and people like this new lady look like they need a bit more exercise. I don't say this to be mean, but come on! I've seen more people of an acceptably average weight than I see of ether of the others. How about a show about real people for once?
I have an eating disorder. I currently weigh about what this lady weighs. I'm prepared for the hateful comments sure to come my way. At my heaviest weight I was over 350. I've been on Weight Watchers since May and in June decided to go vegan; I've lost 33 lbs so far and finally found a plan that will work for me. It's not that I never tried to lose weight, it's that every time I'd end up binging and give up and end up gaining all I lost back plus more. I'm disgusted by my body. I hate the way I look and feel. How did I get this way? I got this way from not caring. I've had depression my entire adult life. Food was medication. My drug of choice. Believe it or not I did not get this fat from stuffing my face full of Twinkies and chips. I ate that kind of garbage very infrequently. And, no, I didn't eat McDonalds (I hate fast food garbage). Before WW I thought there was something metabolically wrong with me because it was so hard for me to lose weight. Now I'm sure that I can lose with this plan because it doesn't feel like I'm dieting at all.
I'm sure lots of you think I'm disgusting and subhuman and I get it. I knew I was fat and disgusting to many people even when I weighed 180 or 220...
We are human beings. We have feelings, believe it or not. Apathy, Depression, Antidepressants, Anxiety, Food addiction and other things helped to pack this weight onto me. I WILL get my body back in shape again and I won't be burdening you taxpayers with my obesity-related diseases I'm certain to develop in time if I don't shed the weight. I'm going to start the Couch-to-5K running program as soon as my knees can safely support my weight. (as soon as I lose enough not to cause me serious injury when I run) My ultimate goal other than reaching my goal weight and maintaining that weight, is to run a marathon or half-marathon one day. I WILL obtain this. Five years from now no one that I meet will ever believe I was ever this big. Please be kind, people. Not all of us stuff our faces with pie all day long and not all of us are okay with being obese.
This lady has a beautiful face and will be a knockout when she gets that weight off. I'm nowhere near as pretty as she is. I wish you didn't hate me. You don't have to think I'm hot - I'm not, I look gross right now. But I'm still a human being. I'm not a pig.
* to clarify, I have binge eating disorder or compulsive overeating disorder. I could sit down to eat a normal meal and I would never feel full like everyone else does. I could eat 4 times what everyone else eats before I'd even start to feel full. The mechanism that triggers the sensation of fullness and satisfaction is broken in me, so I honestly thought i wasn't eat all that much to get myself so large.
You are beautiful no matter what your weight is but now it resonates in your words. Hope your journey ends as you want.
Food addiction? Maybe, another made up American liberal excuse for you to think youre not at fault. Hey, guess what, its no ones fault but yours. If someone is addicted to anything else tobacco, crack, whatever, its THEIR fault they got addicted, and its THEIR responsibility to fix it. Everything else is just an excuse. And Jeff, I bet you could stand to lose a few pounds there too. Put down the fork lift full of bigmacs for three months and go outside and walk around and drink water when you feel the need to eat. Dont buy junk food. Its caled self control. All of the enabling factors for obesity can be eliminated by the person afflicted with the disease, Ill reiterate, anything else is just a lame excuse and an example of laziness.
Stultzlee, where did I ever say it wasn't my fault? The fact that I have better control over my eating now proves that I am capable, on the right plan, of moderating my intake and losing weight. I've gone vegan, in part to reverse the damage I've already done! I have been diagnosed by my psychiatrist with binge eating disorder/compulsive overeating. I was aware I had a problem with food for many years prior to this diagnosis and for that reason kept no junk food or frozen prepared foods in my home.
I suppose you don't believe in psychiatry either? I've had depression my whole adult life, beginning when I weighed 125lbs in my early 20's... Is that my fault also?
Jeff, thank you so much for your kind words. They brought tears to my eyes.
I want to applaude u for sharing your storey, in fact i have a very similar one. Most people don't understand how badly eating disorders effect the body long term. I was anorexic for years, at 5'10 was as low as 90lbs, at 18 yrs old. Got help and started to realize what i was doing. Unfortunatly the damage to my body was already done, It no longer knew how to process good foods, and was too used to going long periods of time without sustinance. As a result, it stores everything, good food, bad food, sugars the lot. Just in case. Now almost 12 yrs later I am a Large woman, who still suffers from eating disorders, I have doctors struggling to figure out how to fix the problems i caused myself. I eat healthy, on a very strict diet, exerise daily, am far from any kind of lazy but I can promise you that you would look at me and think all of those things. I suffer from depression and anxiety BUT have learned to love me and appriciate the fact that i am beauitful, big and beautiful. I am sick and tired of peoples assumptions of my lifestyle and insults that do not help, if you dont understand and know the person your judging u have no right to judge. Also for the record, Every single bone skinny person I know quits long before me when it comes to endurance and hard work. Its not someones size that matters its the heart that will always show a better person.
Yeah yeah yeah. Its always an eating disorder or medical problem or some other bullShyt with you people. Just because you cant feel you are full is no excuse. YOU KNOW 5 cheeseburgers and 4 milkshakes daily is wrong. Stop with the excuses.
Dude, are you off your tree? I'm this large and I have eaten less than 5 cheeseburgers a YEAR. I can count the number of milkshakes I've had in the last 5 years on one hand. I am so sick of the stereotypes. You've NO IDEA what you are rattling about.
I'm not crying
Grow up.
why would anyone listen to someone who can not even control what they put in their mouth!?!?
you sure it wasn't nfl to debut plus sized reality show star?
I too am obese, and I really don't give a hoot what the ugly people posting their insulting opinions here think . Their opinions matter less than nothing to me. Ugly is a lot more than personal appearance; it is a problem of the soul. People who make such comments have a problem THEY cannot deal with. There may be a cure for being overweight, but there is no cure for UGLY.
Chelsea Settles is beautiful, and, like every young woman, has a right to her dreams. Many of the haters posting here would probably break a mirror.
Better to break a mirror than a chair ...
Youre such an idiot who has gobbled up all of the "its not your fault" mentality faster than you gobbled up those cheeseburgers putting on all of that excess fat. There is a "cure"(lol) for obesity, Its called dont be a lazy ignorant fattie that sits around sucking down cheeseburgers and french fries every four hours. DUH. No one is born obese, you really have to work for it. Just another lazy enabler speaking on behalf of the biggest(pun intended) problem in our country. Go anywhere else in the world and tell me that obesity is a disease. It isnt, Its a condition that only effects those that are too blind and caught up in their own measly food centric existence to see that its no ones fault but their own.
"Reality" or not, TV is TV! It is for entertainment, for an escape. If big ladies want to spend 30 or 60 minutes in a day feeling like they aren't alone and aren't worthless and aren't HATED by people like many of the individuals posting here, let them!
People who are that large have a problem, whether it is medical or emotional. You people wouldn't call for shows about people struggling with drug abuse or alcoholism or anorexia or some other kind of problem to be pulled because they are "not role models," so let this girl be!
This is disgusting!
OMG. Another fatty show. Wake up America, it is NOT right to be fat. Period. Stop with the extra this, super size that, and eat responsibly. Don't give me "I have thyroid problem" crap either. It's plain, good ole, glutteny. Period. I see a fat chick, and I wanna throw up. Especially if they are wearing skin tight pants or spandex? Dudes ain't in no better shape either... Geez.. another freaking fatty show... I'm turning off my cable TV now.....
I'll bet she's a ton of fun. A load of laughs.
This is one girl who really loves a Big Mac or 3.
Whats worse fat people, or people that defend the fact that people are fat and it "ok?"
Bloaton the Annoyer
So beautiful! Why would she think that "being fat" was "in"? Did she think that by being beautiful, talented and fat would earn her a spot on a TV reality show or something? I wish her a lot of luck but she'll need more than luck when her heart gives out due to the weight issue plus when other medical issues start cropping up. Very sad. I can't believe any young man would want to marry someone looking like that!
I'm seldom at a loss for words, but ICK!!
isnt there already a plus sized reality star??? um, hello Snookie!
Had a course years ago, Human evolution and ecology, one premise, H.sapiens have determinate growth, get to a certain size and stop growing, apparently not anymore, very sad.
It's so easy for people who have never had a struggle with their weight to sit back and call names and make jokes. Wow. I was always curvy, as soon as I hit puberty and got DD boobs and my mother's wretched hips. All while eating practically nothing and running and playing sports and being active. Fast forward to college...now DDD boobs, about 160-170, walking EVERYWHERE, going to the gym, eating salad, etc. Fast forward 10 years...diagnosed with RA, put on prednisone...goodbye metabolism. I can literally eat nothing but CELERY and drinking nothing but water for a week and lose no weight. (and yes, I tried it. Made me sick, and I actually gained a pound!) Even when I'm not actively on predinsone, it's no use. I've tried every diet out there, and I eat pretty healthy, and reasonable portions. So I'm 290. Am I disgusting fat pig with no self-control? My exercise is limited by what my joints will actually do on a given day. SOme days getting out of bed is more painful than I can handle. Others, I can walk miles. (albeit slowly) I was still at a healthy weight when I was diagnosed, so you can't blame the weight on that one. You NEVER know what' s going on with people. Judging them is NEVER okay.
So, your gonna sit there, and tell me, that over 50% of all Americans being over weight is down to some sort of medical issue? Pa-Lease. While I know there are medical conditions out there, I'm hard pressed to believe over 50% of my fellow countrymen suffer some weight deforming problem...... Not gonna buy it.
Well said. Hope all gets better for you...
They're scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas...
how much is her addiction costing tax payers? will that be featured on the show?
Plain and simple, MTV and every other network does not give a damn for any of these people on Reality TV Shows. Only thing they look at are ratings. No good ratings and they just pull the plug and move on to next sucker or suckers.
This is to all the negative people. She is changing her life in front of the world. Would any of you be willing to do that ?
It's the new Oprah, 30 years younger
Oprah topped out at around 220- not a healthy weight for her, but a far cry from 320.
She is a fat pig and deserves to be made fun of until she finally gets enough will power to eat less & lose the weight or at least be anorexic for awhile! She doesn't need a show, she needs a diet and some self control.
Apparently they'll stick anybody on TV these days. NASTY.
ok, like it or not she does have a right to be on the plant so get off her case! You dont get to decide!
Neat they're trying to break the skinny stereotype. But this is still just inexpensive programming offering people the vicarious thrill of watching someone else's life – while the viewer whiles-away theirs sitting in front of the TV.
Don't hurt her in the name of ratings...
Just more trash for people to laugh at...LOL!
WAY TO AIRBRUSH OFF HER TRIPLE CHIN....as a fat person i hate when people try to say that fat is now the new pretty..fat people are ugly and even ill admit that
She *obese* people. She not 'plus sized'. Shes not large. She obese – i.e. as in 'humans arent supposed to look like that'. Sheesh..
I've read some of the comments on this post and I am so sad and disgusted. This story hits extremely close to home for me. I am 5'8" and at my heaviest was 330 pounds. Over the past few years I have dropped my weight down to 168 pounds using a combination of diet and exercise, but frankly I never had the self-esteem or gumption that this young woman exhibits. As a result, even as a smaller person I carry around tons of low self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness. The bottom line is that weight is only one factor that affects happiness. I am impressed to see this girl believing in herself and following her dreams. It's something I wouldn't have had the courage to do, and still wouldn't. I wish a role model like this was around when I started my weight loss journey.
I'm glad to see an obese reality tv star – from the comments made by some on this board, it is clear that a majority of people need to be educated about this disorder. Obesity is a fast growing disease in America. I'm so sick of hearing... "How could they let themselves get that way..." or "This is what happens when you don't take care of yourself..." Those comments are made by ignorant fools. Obesity is a disease, most often attributed to genetics, mental health issues, and the eating disorder known as "binge eating", and often leads to feelings of self hate, anxiety, depression, and death. No one "chooses" to be obese!
I'm glad to see an obese reality tv star – from the comments made by some on this board, it is clear that the world needs to see what the life of someone battling obesity is actually like. Obesity is a fast growing disease in America. I'm so sick of hearing... "How could they let themselves get that way..." or "This is what happens when you don't take care of yourself..." Those comments are made by ignorant fools. Obesity is a disease, most often attributed to genetics, mental health issues, and eating disorders, and often leads to depression, suicide, disease, death. No one "chooses" to be obese! It's not like being a drug addict... you can't escape food. If you don't eat, you die.
Genetics haven't changed over the past 30 years while obesity has exploded. That's lifestyle, pure and simple.
Genetics might mean that some people will never be thin even with a perfect lifestyle. But we're talking maybe 25 or 30 lbs. overweight, not 75+ lbs.
Whenever writer prints someone's weight in a story for any reason, I think they should have to print their own weight just to the side of their byline. By the way, is her weight to the pound relevant? Why don't they print Snookie's IQ in every article about Jersey Shore. Seems she and the rest of her clan have quite a handicap of their own, no?
ridiculous to normalize obesity. Its as dangerous as drug abuse. Why don't they follow a crackhead around? Fat is not a protected class. It is the reason your health care is so expensive. 1/3 of the country is obese and they clog the hospitals with an assortment of ailments. Go to any housing project and you'll see obese people on food stamps. We should shun gluttony, not celebrate it.
It is a little publicity for a netweork that is generally agreed to be in decline. The concept of having a large person featured in a reality show is not new. If you flip through the channels on any given evening there are shows called "I weigh 600 pounds" and "We lost a ton" on TLC or one of the other Human Interest networks. 324 pounds doesn't even sound morbidly obese to me. It's to say how I feel about the concept, because my little sister (28) has approximately the same dimensions, and I certainly feel sympathy for her plight. On the other hand, I (39) am very active and thin, so I share some of the predjudices expressed in these comments. It is so easy to throw rocks at others. The benefit of reality shows, and more recently the internet, to humanity escapes me. It's like an army of paper tigers, growling impotently at their reflections.
go luck chelsea...you are beautiful and don't forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again, MTV continues to lead young Americans down a wrong path, in particular young Women. Per MTV, we must all extend understanding to Teen Moms (when we should be encouraging them to preserve their youth and get pregnant). Now we have to celebrate and embrace morbid obeisty rather than lovingly encourage the morbidly obese to seek help in getting to a healthier state. MTV is disgusting beyond reproach.
I miss the days of all music broadcasting. I miss sneaking downstairs at Midnight to watch 120 minutes and seeing Natalie Merchant twirl around in a dress to fantastic music.
I think she's gorgeous! It must be extremely difficult to put herself out there like that, given the way the comments are reading, and I really admire her inner strength. I wish her all the best with the show and with her future.
She's much prettier than those drunk oompa-loompa women from the Jersey Shore.
I'd hit that.
I don't see how you could miss it.
When I saw this headline I got really excited because being overweight myself, I'm always excited about curvier girls being out in the spotlight..... but to be honest, I'm not sure what to think. 324 isn't exactly "plus size" it's obese so I'm really hoping this show spends time focusing on a healthy lifestyle and getting fit. This young woman is gorgeous and I think she could become a role model if she chooses to take control of this disease and better her life. I say this coming from a place of love and understanding because I too used to be a lot heavier than I am now and can say from experience that there are so many factors contributing to obesity and I understand, it's not just about "not being lazy and eating less," there are so many more parts to starting a new healthy lifestyle. No matter how you look at it 324 is not healthy, no matter how beautiful or happy you are, weight takes a heavy toll on the body. 90lbs lighter, I'm happier, more active, have more elf confidence and I've found that I've started doing better in school and in social settings. A healthy lifestyle leads to a healthier and happier self and I really hope she is able to show people this through her new show.
324 lbs. isn't plus size. It's morbidly obese.
324 lbs ? This show is only possible because most TV's made in the last 10 years are in the widescreen format. This country does not need an obese person as any type of role model.
The problem is that today's young MTV audience expects entertainment/drama every second they are in front of the TV. They (okay, we) have the attention spans of goldfish.
I think she is beautiful!!!! And oh by the way, I'm 5'7" and weigh 120 lbs! : )
I want my faaat teeveeeeeeeee.....
Don't knock it till you try it. If the show sucks, have at it with the fat jokes.
Amazing what idiocy MTV has turned into. Nothing to do with its roots. Everything to do with braindead nimrods.
I see enough cows every day on the cow farms along the side of the road in my town. I don't need to watch a show about one.
Remember when you had to go to the circus freak show to see a fat lady? Now you just have to look out the window (or watch MTV).
Great, now MTV is promoting America's disgusting obesity epidemic. The USA, the land of sloth and gluttony. Pathetic.
It's not OK to be morbidly obese. Enjoy the diabetes, coronary artery disease, sleep apnea, congestive heart failure, hypertension, etc. Oh yeah and you'll smell like cheese.
Puleeeze! She's a fat woman with a weave! Why on earth should anyone put her on a pedestal?! Learn some self discipline! It takes effort to be fat! I wish her well, but Americans worship the wrong things. We are making it OK to be out of control.
Why does calling a fat person fat equal being mean or hating on them? If she's fat she's fat. The people who consider it mean to call her fat probably have fat issues themselves and the excuse of her trying to lose weight serving as an inspiration to other fat people is a joke. There are tons(excuse the pun) of weight loss shows on tv and people continue to get fat in rapid numbers. A "normal" sized woman is 120-140 lbs regardless of what the new majority of obese women say. Just because fat is the new majority doesn't make it normal. There's nothing normal about anyone except for an NFL lineman weighing 324lbs.
A 140 lb. woman could be fat if she's short & sedentary and a 170 lb. woman could be in great shape if she's tall and athletic. Gabby Reece, the volleyball star and model, weighs something like 170 lbs. and she's not at all fat.
I think it's admirable that this woman is willing to let her experience be chronicled on nation wide television. The article stated that she has some social phobias...kudos to her for putting these out there and dealing with them. I agree, she is overweight and, again BIG kudos, is trying to lose weight. We see these types of reality shows all the time: on Intervention, for example, someone addicted to a drug may want to change this and open his or her own business (for talk's sake). This woman is trying to change and move forward with her dreams. Food addiction is a real illness. We don't know all the reasons for her weight problems but if we assume it is a food addiction then it is certainly admirable to see her trying to get help. Shame on those of you who can't support someone who is working so hard towards a goal. We all have faults, some impact our lives more than others. For those of you who support her, awesome! It is nice to see society cheering for fellow citizens.
Clearly an MTV publicity stunt. MTV is exploiting her BECAUSE she is overweight.
Why so much animosity toward overweight people? It's not like they WANT to be fat. It is not fun to be fat. God forbid it should happen to you and see how you feel.
There are thousands of fat people who gladly accept being fat and shows like this one promote that because for every fat person who tries to lose weight because of her story there will be a hundred fat people who see her getting a show as a success and figure if she can do it at 324 so can they. This is America and the bottom line is money. People will see her making money being fat and figure they can do the same. Just like TV that shows stupid people getting rich spawn more shows with stupid people like Jersey Shore. This show is just another step in the "fatification" of America where being fat is seen as normal and more and more shows with fat people continue to pop up. We've already got Mike and Molly, The Parkers and now this. The fat hits just keep on coming.
americans are fat, but don't like fat people. so thus, this show will fail... just like her failing at maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
People should be accepted for who they are and not how they look. However, obesity is going to break the health care system because of all the associated health problems–most notably diabetes which then leads to heart disease, kidney disease and eye disease. Looking down at someone because they are fat is not a good thing–neither is promoting obesity by MTV.
Just like a piggy bank. You stuff it with money only to be shattered and wasted on something useless.
Make her embassador to Somalia.
Star is an understatement, she's more of a hypergiant red sun. I wonder how many times they will use the word "curvy"?
Hmmm... Should I watch a skinny girl obsess about herself or a fat girl? Decisions, decisions.
Reality "star" – ummm, she hasn't even been on TV yet. Try TV personality.
and I have no problem with fatties, so long as they do not expect me to pay for their health care or disability.
I applaud this woman and hope she loses weight. It is hard work. It means not eating when your body is screaming to do so. It means exercising. It takes discipline, something those under 30 today sorely lack.
Is she the one who ate the music videos that used to be on MTV?
what makes her more special than any of the other jillion obese people out there.
like who the F cares about just her when others need help .. who cares about her stupid bf and the fact that she gets a free ride to help. like im sure she will get a free dietician, nutrionist and personal trainer not available to the general public. stupid reality TV took off with survivor and never looked back just got worse
In my opinion, obesity is a result of incompatibility between human technology, environment, and once useful genetics. Take away all technology and return each human to his/her place of genetic origin and the problem of obesity will probably disappear. If a genetic sequence evolved to survive in a particular environment, then that is the environment people should be seeking in order to balance themselves out. But of course, that isn't going to happen. Currently, our technology and current environments are changing at a much faster pace than genetic evolution in comparison with other animal species. Genetic technology is probably the best bet in solving the obesity problem. This can be managed in one of two ways; selective breeding or by genetic engineering. Gene therapy, if it exists for the obese, would still just be a temporary solution. Dieting, willpower, and exercise is also just a temporary solution.
better break out the wide angle lenses!!
a cute faced heffer. Wonderful role model for the obese children.
This just goes to show that we have to hit a few bumps to get to better programming, but DAMN! I don't think we'll make it past this one.
Obese is the new black. Mmmmmmmm, pork rinds.
This is pretty disgusting. If I wanted to see obese people prancing around, I'd turn off the TV and poke my head outside. The fact that modern TV is glorifying this type of crap is insane. If people want to be, not happen to be, but actually want to be porkers, that's their prerogative, but it's unhealthy and shouldn't be glorified in the least.
OMG!!! More fat chicks! Isn't Kim K enough?
This girl is about 3 of the Kardashian sisters put together.
There is nothing healthy about being fat, mentally or physically and I think this is bad imaging for our young people who are struggling to lose weight.
This sounds like an extremely boring show
As a guy who has topped the scales @ 350 in my life but currently right @ 200 lbs, I will reserve my opinion of this show until after I see how she presents herslef and her situation with regards to her weight. I really hope that the show is geared towards getting her into a more healthy situation. Personally I must say she has an absolutely gorgeous face and I hope that her personality matches that...and I might even tune into this reality show to find out. Normally I cant stand those shows and avoid them like the plague.
as for the folks here who think that embarassing someone with all this name calling is going to help, you are sorely mistaken and I'd love to bring you to the gym with me just so I can drop a 45 lb weight on your foot as a reminder!
John, you are right that she is beautiful. And it seems that she really does want to get down to a healthy weight. A proper diet and exercise can help her keep that glow. I just hope she has been evaluated by a psychologist. As we found this week from the Housewives series, most of those reality shows are brutal in what they suggest for stories of the week and the way they are edited. (I have to admit that the Bridezillas, fat or thin, all are so nasty to everyone, special editing can't make them look much worse.) She may need lots of support from family and friends to get through any nastiness. Let's hope she doesn't bother to read the rude comments. She knows what made her fat andi s now trying to take care of that.
bout time.....large people were more......visible. but it was inevitable for if you are the majority then you get what you want. congrats. you've sealed the deal simply by increasing your numbers. brilliant.
I can't imagine her smothering her boyfriend.... mmmmhhhhh
I wonder what she smells like late in the afternoon on a very hot day. Just say'in ya know. This is the result of eating nothing but Hostess and Little Debbies snack all day long while watching nothing but MTV on the 52".
I prefer 800 pound reality stars.
Slightly off topic, but I recently learned that you can beat most drug tests if you eat 10 Big Macs within a time span of one hour. Anyone tried this? I may have to give it a go on the next random test if I have enough advance notice. It's when they say get down to the lab immediately and get tested within the next half hour that it might be challenging.
This might be a radical thought for you, but if you really want to pass your drug test, you should stop doing drugs.
Just what Fat America needs, a fat role model....
why does America have such a hard time accepting itself?
No, how about some old days music videos and drop the crap
yeah uhhhh nooooo uhhh
There is nothing "real" about being 300+ pounds. It's just nasty.
Unless your idea of being "real" is being lazy and eating whatever you want all day.
What the heck makes her a heroine? A super-eating heroine? Nasty – who wants to watch a fat cow for 30 mins?
Skinny or thin does not equal healthy always. There are thin or average weight people that have diabetes, high blood pressure. And it is sad that people assume when someone is overweight or obese that they do not eat right or exercise. I am overweight, I go to the gym, I eat less than my thin friends, I do active activities, prepare healthy meals but I still can't get the weight off. I do not have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. It is sad that people think that if someone is large they just sit around eating a bucket of chicken and a box of donuts. And for the insurance premiums, fat people pay them too not everyone that is fat depends on the government for health care.
She has a right to be fat. I have a right to say, "GROSS".
Being fat isn't brave. Being fat is being fat. Its not something to celebrate. It is something to point out, ridicule and avoid trying to become.
Nah! It would be easy to outrun her. It would only become a challenge if you have to run down a hill. A good reinactment of Indiana Jones.
I bet a lot of you armchair quarterbacks wouldn't have the GUTS to say these things to someone's face, because you know you'd get your stupid butts kicked into next week! And you'd deserve it, too!
skinny or fat, she's still pretty. So MTV is saying: it's ok to be chubby as long as you're pretty.
We're not talking plus size – we're talking morbidly obese. This is not okay.
"plus-size" what...plus another 170 pound person?
I have worked in several hospitals and seen 300 plusers come in
all...and I mean all...100%...reek
purfume all over them.......
because they cannot reach around behind and wipe their @ssh0le...it is too far to reach
every sh!t entails a shower to clean them up or they just douse with smell stuff
I have lost a significant amount of weight, but at my heaviest I was almost 400lbs. Even then, I had NO problem wiping my own @ss, thank you very much. Not even a stretch. Showering – not a problem. And I never wore perfume (gross.) They say you can't smell your own stink, but none of the guys I had lining up ever complained (oh yes, s ex was not difficult either. Guess you'll have to rethink that one too.)
Instead of "Chelsea Settles", maybe they should name the show "Chelsea Swallows".
Well, at least if she fails on this show she can always get a job as an icon for the Heart Attack Grill.
Am I supposed to care about this fat piece of s**t? Reality TV's BEEN a joke... Let's do a countdown, shall we? Laguna Beach? Spoiled drama queens fighting over boys and basking in drama. P Diddy's show The Band? P Diddy was in it, enough said. Jersey Shore? We just enabled bunch of guido morons to become rich and famous. Plus-size reality show? Guarantee you she will be binge eating on the show crying every time there's drama.
The person who first invented REALITY shows is the Antichrist.
The Antichrist. OK. Got it. I always thought reality TV was the creation of Al-Quaeda to kill the brains of all Americans.
Dag. These comments are deplorable. You dont like something? Dont deal with it. Go off on your own but do no sit here and make judgements about this woman without knowing her. First of all HAS ANYONE SEEN that other reality show about that other woman, "RUBY"? So take the racial bias out of it that has nothing to do with it. There are thin, healthy and otherwise black women and obese white women. Secondly, why shouldnt she get a show? Just because she's heavy she doesnt deserve one? That's crazy. No one said anything about Drew Carey and Mimi and they were a heck of alot worse to look at than this young woman. Lastly, yes oftentimes weight can be attributed to trauma experienced or mild to extreme mental health issues. So can drug use, alcoholism and all types of abuse. I bet you guys didnt have a problem with Charlie Sheen having his show or him being a total wackjob. Just because she is possibly self medicating with food instead of with meth and cocaine doesnt make her less worthy of sympathy and/or empathy. Be nicer to each other people....dag. You dont know anything until you have walked in someone's shoes and if you are not intelligent enough to understand that, then you need not open your mouth and show your true ignorance. Keep your below average mouths shut!
fat is disgusting..
....it transends color..
black fat ~ white fat ~ hispanic fat ~ oriental fat
it is all disgusting blubbery fat from p!g eaters
Did you miss all those negative comments about Charlie Sheen? Some of us hoped he'd go down. Unfortunately there are a lot of lovers of Charlie and even the now infamous Casey Anthony. Unfortunately karma doesn't seem to act fairly any more than humans do.
I agree. some people on here are so ridiculously rude. why do you think there's a rise in teen suicide? it's because of people like this who hide behind their computers and bully and pick apart other people to the point that they can't take it anymore.
Another MTV "reality" show... boooooooooooooring!!!!!!! What happenned to MUSIC? I thought that's what the "M" stands for, call me crazy...
Seems you missed the 1990s. MTV changed the "M" to mean miserable. Miserable TV 24 hours a day. Stupid people, grossly fat obese people, dumb people, idiotic people, miserable people, loser people...and on and on and on.......
NOOOOOOO! Please stop making reality TV! No more – stop, desist!
I miss good TV....a lot!
They make the shows that people watch, and everyone will moan and complain about how this show shouldn't exist yet...they will watch it.
The next MTV show will be a show about normal people with everyday problems.Wont last long however,we want something we can complain about. If they are too thin we worry,if they are too fat we complain,if they are too normal we get bored
Old Polka song...."The Too Fat Polka.....actual lyrics.... " I don't want her, you can have her, she's too fat for me. HEY!. she's too fat for me, HEY !, she's too fat, much too fat , she's too fat for me!! She's a two-some, she's a four-some, if she'd lose some, I would like her more-some!!! CHORUS – Everybody sing !!!! I don't want her, you can have her, she's too fat for me. HEY!. she's too fat for me, HEY !, she's too fat, much too fat , she's too fat for me!!
Some men go 1, maybe 2 hours. Uh Uh, you gotta put in overtime to get ME off!
Moderation people. It's not okay to set standards that are not reachable when it comes to weight. But saying 324 is 'okay' is not healthy either.
Judging people based on how they look is a sign of insecurity!!
No. It is a clear sign of how people think of themselves and how they take care of themselves. If I had an obese person and a normal person apply for the same job, with the same resume, I am hiring the normal person...........Because they are normal.
It's nice to know that so many of you have no vices that you are free to judge. Fat, skinny, judgemental is still judgemental no matter which side of the issue you are on.
It's not about judging... this girl needs medical attention and lifestyle changes, not a show!
And I totally agree that she does not need a show. My hope would be that maybe some teenager who may watch this show might get help and achieve a healthy weight and lifestyle. But these comments do nothing to help.
I wonder how many McDonald ads will run.
Or Home Depot ads, since there will be some construction workers removing walls to get her out da house.
The nasty comments on here should surprise me, but sadly, don't. When I was young and *healthy* , I stayed thin by barely eating, exercising to extremes, and vomiting. Now I'm older and disabled. I can't excercise because of my health, and on a fixed income can only afford one meal a day. I ruined my teeth & esophagus a long time ago, and can't risk vomiting anymore. So now I am obese, due to genetics, a poor diet, and medications, and feel so much hatred and disgust from society, that I basically hide in my apartment, and only go out for doctors appointments. Those of you on here making hateful comments and jokes should be ashamed of yourselves. I'd like to think you just don't realize how much damage you can do to a persons self esteem, but in reality, I suspect that you probably do know, and just don't care.
STOP.. you're story is so full of BS. Stop posting.
Nyat, thank God everyone is not like many of these jerks on this site. They do this online but would never have the guts to tell these ugly things to someone's face. Ever heard of "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all?" If you aren't interested or think ill of the woman just switch the channel - you do have that right you know. I hope none of you fall on bad times and become "less than" - Could you handle it?
Karma ain't no joke.
Good for you for overcoming your eating disorder. Anorexia and Bulimia are very real diseases – and from your comments, I think you may still be suffering from an eating disorder. I hope you can get past this and are able to live a life you can enjoy.
Precious, the TV series.
Please MTV, either change your name to the "Youth Lifestyle Network" or start playing videos again.
Another lame "reality" show set up for the maximum amount of useless drama..
THE NEW FACE OF AMERICA, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
all he has to do in a Friday evening is leave nasty comments. Does it make you feel better F? Good, I'm glad.
haha! So true.. ô¿ô¬
The venom and hate in these (and so many other articles) comments amount to nothing more than class warfare. While so many people claim to hate overweight people, what they actually hate is the poor who have fewer healthy options (in a consumables market built on mass production and the motto of empty calories and barrel scrapings equalling higher profits at cheaper prices) than those with disposable incomes. I have yet to witness anyone who voices this venom against 'fat America' who really wants to see anything done to solve the nation's health problems, or see people struggling to lose weight helped or inspired. Why? Because then they would not be able to tell the difference between themselves and 'their lessers' by sight alone, would no long be physically set above and have to actually work their brains to prove themselves better than the next guy.
How much does it cost to go up a flight of stairs or go for a walk around the block? Heck, take the bus to the local mall and walk around there for an hour. Maybe there's a local park somewhere near by, or just lay down on the floor and try thing thing called a push-up. It's not hard (well, at 324lbs a push-up might be) and it's not expensive.
Get a grilled chicken sandwich without a bun, or a salad and skip the croutons and dressing. It's surprisingly easy to eat healthy on the cheap. Heck, really, really easy thing is instead og getting fries with your burger get chicken nuggets. Not the most healthy option, but they are better than fries.
Please stop making lame excuses. The only excuse is lack of will power or the small number of people that actaully have a medical issue.
Just to be clear here, I've got no problem with fat people. I'm a fat person. I also accept that I am what I am. I choose to play video games an not go do something more active. This is not forced on me by McD's on Sony. It's not because of my income or because Capt'n Crunch is so much better than any veggie on Earth (OK, that may actually have something to do with it...).
91% of American households have cable/satellite and 85% have a cell phone. Perhaps those who claim they are "too poor" to eat healthy should drop those luxuries and use the savings to improve their diets a bit.
Wow! There are some major haters out there. LOL
its amazing the amount of keyboard punks are in the world..LOL!!
I really hate that this is going to happen. These shows are vicious and they will eat her alive. A man just hung himself. This poor kid might not be able to take it. She is beautiful, but she is way heavy and there will be mean stuff thrown at her.
I've got a big screen, but it's not that big.
I am disgusted by the rude comments. You are so perfect to judge another person? You have no faults? Based off of your comments I can tell that you have no heart. You probably get off on making others feel bad because you have issues that you don't want to come to terms with.
Maybe they have a small penis
Find a person with a 324-lb. penis and give THEM a show!
For most people, it's easier to tear someone else down then to pull themselves up. Making jabs at a 324 lb. woman can make themselves feel better about having the intelligence of a rock.
Shut your mouth Stacy or I will shut it for you.
Shouldn't this show be on B.E.T.?
I really don't understand the people who support this because "it's nice to see a woman on tv who isn't a twig." They could have a 160 lb woman who isn't a twig just as easily. Why did it have to go so far to the other extreme?
Because extremism sells!
Because maybe, just maybe, seeing her working to lose the weight and change her life might inspire others to do the same?
Because she threatened to eat them if they didn't put her on tv.
i think that she is beautiful i like big women.
Then you better pop for that wide-screen plasma, because you ain't never gonna fit all that on a regular-size screen.
I think this is great. If young girls see a young woman who isn't a twig on TV and is trying to be healthier then they are likely to live healthier lives instead of turning to bulemia. I assume when they say this is a combo with The Biggest Loser that this woman will be dieting and exercising. It's a good influence for both young girls and women like me who are struggling with weight issues. I'm dieting myself and it helps to see someone else going through the same struggles. It's not easy. The more weight you've gained over the years the harder the journey is. Always helps to have someone to look up to who is in your shoes too.
RE: Marilyn Monroe...not to mention that even if she did wear a size 16, it was a vastly smaller size 16 than what 16s are today. It's called vanity sizing.
Tie a safety harness to the bedpost, or you'll be living some twisted version of "127 hours".
Seriously, how can you compare Marilyn Monroe to this girl. Marilyn Monroe had a waistline. I agree with the person about being lazy. Working out is not one of my favorite things but, I workout six days a week. If I miss a day, I don't feel right. Oh well..you can't make people do what they don't want to do. *Funny comments though..lol. Don't see Evel or Mad on there as yet.
I thought plus size was somebody who was naturally larger. Not someone who is obese from bad diet and lack of exercise. But WHATEVER makes you feel better, I suppose.
I am fat and she is twice my size.
wow, looks like precious got her own tv show.
No tv show anywhere, certainly not a reality show that is impressionable on young viewers, should be glorifying a 23 year old who managed to get herself to over 300 pounds.
While we should be glorifying stick thin models either, surely there are some "normal" girls out there that could have done this show?
Nothing against obese people, but they should NOT be glorified, at all.
Just because you see it as 'glorifying' doesn't mean the rest of the country can't see her struggle and maybe get some inspiration to change themselves. Losing the weight is one of the things that she is doing, so why do you have such a problem with a show that shows other people that it can be done? As for it somehow influencing children, it's up to the parents to control what their little terrors watch but how can seeing a young woman struggle to change her life be somehow worse than playing games where the goal is to kill people?
You people are missing the point. This is a far more realistic reality show idea than any other show I've heard of. Unfortunately we are seeing people in their early 20's at 300+ pounds, maybe a show detailing her efforts to lose weight will be inspirational. I can't help but point out that as a society we've all become incredibly sedentary – we don't let our kids run and play the way we did when I was growing up in the 70's. We don't let them walk anywhere – heaven forbid, we've got to keep them 100% supervised... Sedentary lifestyles starting at an early age coupled with parents and schools dishing out high fat/low nutrition foods result in obesity. Some people are predestined to be thin – most are not. They either work at it – sometimes incredibly hard – or they gain weight. Little by little, and then more and more as the years go by. That doesn't make them bad people – but most of your comments make you out to be.

Good luck to her on the weight loss. What's sad about this is it means the analysts at the networks have identified a huge (I mean in numbers) audience for this formula: young, obese, insecure and inactive person struggles to fit into the world. i live in relatively thin and fit California, so I may be out of touch...but are we really this fat and lazy as a nation? There is no excuse!
you hit the nail on the head.
She's not fat she's FLUFFY.....I take that back she's DAAAAMN!!!
One man's fat is another man's daaaaamn!
Pretty face, hope she manages to lose the weight, but stays between 130 and 170. Sick of seeing these size 0 crack-thin models. Curvy but not unhealthy is A+
This is sad. This is not someone that is mildly overweight. This is morbid obesity and it is unhealthy.
an obese black woman on mtv...how original.
The term is MORBIDLY OBESE, her reward? Her OWN TV show. Pathetic, but sadly, this is now typical reality tv fare.
Did it ever cross your tiny brain that other obese people might find some inspiration in her story and decide to make changes in their own lives such as losing weight?
Reward? How about she got a TV show because she has a great personality? She isn't being rewarded for being fat she's getting her own show because she had more than that.
Oh, Sheri, how naive can you be? Of course she's not on the show because she's got a great personality - she was chosen because she is obese. Sure, and probably sweet and sassy, but this is all about a fat person clawing their way through the Hollywood scene.
Mooooooove over Kardashians...............
And she doesn't even need implants in the rear area!
Here's an idea...how about we stop pretending that being fat is OK simply because it seems like all of us are fat? It's not OK to be fat. Not any more than it is to be anorexic. People on both sides of the extremes need to not be vaulted into any spotlights...
Here's a better idea...how about you worry about yourself and let others worry about themselves? If you don't think it's ok to be overweight then worry about keeping your own as$ in shape, because moaning and complaining isn't going to change anyone else.
Amen to that, CT.
"how about you worry about yourself and let others worry about themselves?"
Except that everyone's tax dollars and insurance premiums are going to pay for fixing the self-inflected damage that others' poor lifestyle choices cause. When you choose to eat cr*p, not exercise, and then get diabetes or heart disease, you're not paying the full cost of all the medical care you receive. No, the rest of us have to pick up the tab for your poor decisions.
I think it's time for a junk food tax and also to charge higher health insurance premiums for those who have an unhealthy bodyfat percentage.
Come on guys, rude comments don't work. Have you ever experienced what positive motivation does? Being a "jagoff" is not helping, all it does is make you look like the piece of "work" you really are.
Two tons of fun....LMAO!!
No Fat Chicks = no brain
Goodness, the rude comments indicate to me that you were probably all bullies growing up and you haven't stopped.
The only good thing here,Amen....
nope never been bully. been skinny all my life and i was bullied by a big fat @ss.
Wrong. Been skinny all my life and have been bullied by the big dopey brutes in school. Made it through, no harm. I'm still slim, healthy, fit and active, while the big dumb brutes all asked how I stayed slim at my 30 year HS reunion last year. Their big "muscles" are all fat bags hanging down over their belts and their arms looks like they are smuggling water balloons in their sleeves. And to add insult, they were mostly gray, white or bald. I have all my wavy blond hair, to the thrill of many ladies !!!!!! HA HA HA. Last laugh took a long time, but I got it.!
@ skinny chic and "F" – sounds like the outcome of your bullying turned you into nasty, catty and egotistical adults... I wouldn't be too proud of that! The girl's weight is not healthy but it does not give you the right to treat her or others like her like crap. THANK GOD... I was one of the un-teased ones at school and still healthy and fit!
Oh. My. God. You are almost 50 years old F and this is how you act? I thought you were an ignorant kid when I read all your previous comments. You may have maintained your weight but were obviously too lazy to work on your maturity. Can't say that about your classmates. They may have "grown up" physically, but based on your comment they at least managed to grow up mentally too.
I'd rather be an extra 50 lbs overweight than have a personality like "f."
Its not about her appearance. 324 is dangerously obese.
MTV needs to help her. Not exploit her. She is dangerously overweight. I just hope she keeps a close watch on her blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Why can't people just be kind to one another no matter what? Don't we all have a battle going on in something? Family crisis, health crisis, financial crisis? Depression? Drugs? just plain stupidity?
No , Linda. Grow up and get your act together. We DO NOT ALL HAVE "problems". We take control of ourselves and our situations and deal with them like adults.
Right, f, because everyone on Earth deals with things in the EXACT SAME WAY.
F, must be difficult being soooo perfect in such an ugly world. I hate to break it to you, but from all of your posts, I'd venture to say that you suffer from major insecurity issues along with a huge case of narcissism. Get off the computer and take you own advice....deal with your issues.
NO FAT CHICKS: yeah and i've come to learn that skinny wont cure homely or retarded, guess ur SOL...
What's PLUS SIZE? She's fat. Remember when some people were fat?
Ha Ha uhh yea, like ur mom...
The comments about this young lady are rude, and stupid, and yeah, she might weigh 324, but people are tired of seeing twiggy white girls, and talking about their social problems. All women are not skinny, with no asses. The show hasn't been seen yet an already people are talking about this young lady as if she is an animal. We are all human, doesn't matter what race, shape, form, size, ... we all are gods children.
I believe that we are all animals. And we are. Too bad this isn't Darwinian ages yet, that lard ass would be one of the first to go. Fat people suck. Thats pretty much all there is to it. When was the last time you saw a fat Lion, or tigeer? Or better yet, a fat deer? Laziness is a disease that is killing alot of idiots
Wow, these comments are hateful. I know it's hard to realize that the whole world isn't into themselves like you are. I'm overweight because I'm too busy caring for others: my aging mom and two kids. I also work four jobs, so don't call me lazy. I teach water aerobics and have muscle tone under my fat. I'm really amazed how much fat people are hated –we should be focusing our hate on on immoral people who lie and steal.
Wow, another show on MTV perpetuating a stereotype that women are obsessed with fashion and body image. MTV is breeding idocracy.
And perpetuating the racist stereotype that black women come in two sizes... skinny-minny-bag-o-bones or BIG MAMMA ! Any black woman who is of normal size is just in the midst of her transformation from one to the other !
I couldn't agree with you more...There is no excuse for anyone to be 324lbs, that is morbidly obese! It is beyond unhealthy, and I don't think anyone should think it's okay to carry that much fat around, fat that causes your triglyceride levels to soar, fatty liver, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, not to mention the strain in puts on your heart. Don't know exactly what their doing with this show? But it should be about this girl changing her lifestyle!!
Women ARE obsessed with body image, or the countless shows depicting that phenomenon wouldn't be as popular as they are.
Some of the comments on here are just plain rude. Even people like Marilyn Monroe were a size 16 – many of the models in the current fashion world exhibit what is referred to as "herion chic", ie, they look like they've been shooting smack to get that skinny. While I agree that carrying too much weight is bad for one's health on so many grounds, to be abusive towards someone who's "Rubenesque" is nasty, hurtful and totally unnecessary. Chelsea may be a big girl, but I bet she isn't as spiteful as many of the people who are posting here. Which would you rather have – skinny chick with the personality of rabid dog or a plump woman who's kind and thoughtful?
Clothing sizes are arbitrary numbers- the famed Ms Monroe had a 22 inch waist (quite skinny by modern standards) and her clothes were made to fit her 35-22-35 frame. Essentially- I wouldn't use her as an example of anyone remotely "plump", as she was 118 lbs.
Right, because all overweight people are kind and thoughtful and jovial and all skinny people have the personality of a rabid dog. I'm willing to bet you lean more towards the overweight end of the scale versus my end.
By the way, how come you can call me skinny but the fat girl gets to be "plump" or rubeneque? If I'm skinny the fat girl is fat. If I'm slender then she can be plump.
skinny chicks rock !
"Heroine chic" is almost completely limited to high fashion. In any case, the answer isn't to replace people who are too skinny with people who are morbidly obese. Believe it or not, there are lots of different weights between 95 and 324lbs, many of which are healthy.
A size 16 for Marilyn is not anywhere near the same as size a 16 is today. The numbers have changed dramatically in 50 years because clothes manufacturers keep cheating them lower to get people to buy their clothes. I call them flattery numbers and Marilyn's size 16 would translate into a size 10/12 today. The size 7/8 dresses I wore in the 60's are now size 3/4's and my weight and measurements are the same as I had in high school 40 years ago. This will give you an idea of what I mean.
Eff off SKINNY CHICK. Now go throw your two hour binge back up..
I was always UNDER WEIGHT, 5 ft 5inchs tall and 110 lbs. Until 3 years ago I have really bad back and they can't operate on it. I can't stand or walk more than like 20 feet. I can't stand either and now all at once I am over weight, VERY over weight. I have cut down on my food intake to where I get sick from not eating enough. My Dr. and I have talked and talked it's not working. The next thing is I, at 66 years old, my have the gastric bypass surgery to get my weith off. And then again I may just have to suck it up and be heavy I have lots of other healt problems that may make it impossible to have the surgery. So it isn't always a fat chick that needs to suck it up and do something about their weight! Think about being a little kinder to folks that are over weight, YOU don't know why they are over weight.
Jak, you are correct. This beautiful piece of chocolate (I am white) is something real in television. I would rather have her than a skinny snotty girl who weighs 75 pounds and thinks she is the hottest girl on the planet.
Did you stop to consider that a size 16 today is not the same as asize 16 in Marilyn's time?
Jak, I'll tell you what, I'll let you fall on the grenade and keep all the fatties with cottage cheese for yourself.
Well based on the comments posted here I would say the skinny people have proven the rabid dog personality point.
She's too whiny. I wouldn't watch her. Take responsibility for your condition and do something about it.
I agree! People are always putting the blame on outside influences instead of their own lack of self-control. McDonald's ads and chocolate milk in school are not to blame. It’s the people themselves and the enablers they are surrounded by that cause obesity. It’s not "okay" to be 324 pounds. Unfortunately, our tax dollars and medical premiums will be going towards her obscene medical bills one day because of her weight.
I see a McD ad on TV 5 times a day. That doesn't mean I actually go out and eat McD Big Macs 5 times a day.
It's been shown that some people have different neurological responses to food than others. I'm not saying that an individual isn't still responsible for their own behavior, but it's important for people who only point to will power as being the issue to know that the playing field isn't quite level for everyone. I'm suggesting that it's more of a struggle for some people than others for a very good reason.
NEWS FLASH! She IS trying to lose weight. Maybe she is trying to lose it for her health and for "high medical premiums?" Did you consider that?
I agree with Fred. There are a lot of people who react differently to different things. It's the same reason some people can smoke cigarettes several times and not get addicted, and others are hooked from the very first one. And why some people can drink in moderation their whole lives without issues, while others become alcoholics.
Just because some people react differently to food, perhaps because of emotional issues, doesn't mean they are weak or deserve ridicule. They're human beings, and they deserve compassion.
Her condition? You mean the" Im surrounded by a ssholes who couldn't get on tv if they tried syndrome? Yea I heard that one's going around.
@meh SHE DOES DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! did you watch the preview... they show her workin that ass off! THeyre not just gonna show her being big, lazy, couch potatoey the entire time, man. This show will have a great ending.
She will not lose any weight. Fat people shouldnt be on tv as they smell like old tires.
I would watch this show. It's nice to see an LA heroine who is not a twig!
Too much reality!
I think she's gorgeous! You go girl! I like the idea of a "real" person on TV. Far too long have our kids been victimized by the unrealistic vision that all women must be 5'9" and weigh 120 lbs. She struggles, she's young, she deals with real life in her face. What is not to like in this young lady? I say hooray for her!
Yeah but it's one thing to be chunky and another to be morbidly obese. 324 pounds? COMEON Y'ALL!
Yep, all that meat – and no potatoes.
she looks like eve...
@Laney ...really? You think a 324lb person is someone to emulate? This is a "real person" whom others should admire and see as someone who is getting paid *because of their weight*? (yes, that's the reality of it) 5'9"/120lb is a problem at one end. 324lbs at *any* height is a problem at the other. She's a walking heart attack. A diabetic-in-waiting/weighting (pun intended). Please, give me a break. This is all crap to sell ratings, nothing more, nothing less, and there's certainly *nothing* healthy about 324 lbs.
Plus size models are typically about 5'10" and 200 pounds. Emme and Crystal are nowhere near this size.
I would watch it.She's very pretty.Doesn't matter what your size is.
They make it sound like she's the 1st overweight reality tv star. Cmon MTV. You're not doing anything original. Just another lame reality show to take the place of good television. Reality tv is just a source of cheap programming so the stations don't have to pay real writers, actors, directors, etc. It's contributed heavily to the dumbing down of America. Every reality idiot is made into a star overnight and get paid millions for nothing more than an inflated ego and delusions of grandeur. I thought it was MUSIC television (where the *blank* is the music?) anyway?
She will lose the weight when she is ready. As someone that grew up in the south on the fattiest food my grandma and momma could make, I can tell you that keeping in shape was a challenge. I went from a size 20 to a size 8. If Chelsea pushes, she can achieve her goal as well. My tips: Eat normal potions, eat like a rabbit (fill up on veggies/fruits), drink plenty of water and avoid "diet" anything, limit or cut out meat (I limit what I eat, but I absolutely will not touch any red meat), and make an exercise routine and stick with it.
It took a few years to get down to my current size and weight, and with Chelsea it will take her some time as well. What is most important is that she sticks with it. I am proof that it can be done. To those with rude and nasty comments, if you've never been overweight and or obese before you should really shut your mouths. This experience has helped me to grow as a person and to become more responsible for myself and my body. I hope this young lady is able to do the same.
The real question here has nothing to do with an overwieght black woman but in fact, why are looking to Mtv to define our heroes?
No. I won't be watching.
You are right, she is not a twig. She is very obese though, and probably more unhealthy. People that are that overweight die early. She should spend more time trying to not kill her body and less time trying to force people to be attracted to fat people.
There's nothing heroic about being obese.
@AGeek shes not getting paid bc of her weight... exactly... lol They wanted a big girl for the show.. but i bet you outta all the girls they auditioned, she was OBVIOUSLY the one that had something, THEY CHOSE HER! On the preview for the show you can tell that she has an amazing personality. If anything she's getting paid for all the grief shes gotta go thru w hateful ppl like you. But, yes, she DID have to have some clue of what she was signing up for. But shes not gonna be very fat for long... she works her ass off.
I love you people who are "Concerned about her health" BULL! What you are, is concerned about your eyesight.
I think its a positive direction from the "skinny blonde rich" stereotype. MTV is being realistic. The fact is many women and girls struggle with weight. When we are looking at an obesity epidemic, you can't ignore that people will more readily identify with the challenges Chelsea faces day-to-day than with whatever troubles Lauren or Heidi claim to have gone through.
I applaud this girl for putting herself out there. As we can see from these posts, she may have a challenging road ahead but I have hope she can push through it.
How about any Size Music show MTV? The M used to mean music. I can't believe they are going to have The Video Music Awards when they don't show video anymore (at least during daylight and primetime hours). I don't have any problem with the show just RTV formerly MTV.
I do not see why the big issue of this is a persons size! That is what is wrong in this world. It cannot just be a new show, its a New style of overweight television???
Heroine? What heroic thing has she done - other than land a reality show?
Chelsea Settles – Sorry no one had the guts to tell you. You Are Fat. You don't need to be and shouldn't be Fat. TV won't fix your Fat. Get real help.
She is not "plus-size", she is morbidly obese. She is as fat as they get. This is no healthier than the twigs on TV. In fact, it's much worse. Should there be more normal women on TV? Absolutely, but we shouldn't have society thinking that this girl's figure is healthy or acceptable either. She better have good health insurance. She's going to need it in a few years.
You know what would be edgy and new wave for MTV to do? To actually put MUSIC on their MUSIC... TELEVISION... channel.
And as a person from a somewhat "large" family this girl is not plus sized, she is the clinical definition of morbidly obese. This isn't something to put on display for emulation or to celebrate. Being a comfortable weight/size is one thing, but being a clinical danger of diabetes or heart disease (compounded by her ethnicity) should be the greatest concern. I really hope the focus is her losing weight for the benefit of her health and not conforming to societal image standards.
judge not-lest you be judged. What do you all care??? Look in the mirror before judging anyone else.
i guess theyre following the money...anyone ever notice when they would edit chubby folks from the Hills...ive seen at least one episode where they had an overweight friend hanging but would only show in background shots
So you want your kids role model to be a porker?
What a terrible example. 'Plus-size' shouldn't be 300+ pounds, it should be at most 200, and even that's pushing it. Way to skip all the way from one unhealthy extreme to the other, reality tv. Obesity is just as bad as anorexia. If you want a REAL tv show, have a girl who is normal-looking, not particularly attractive nor ugly, and weighs in at a healthy, NORMAL, 150 pounds (depending on height and etc). Except it won't happen, because normal doesn't make for watchable TV, apparently.
any idea which way is Kosher?
