While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
Top tweeters: Kim K has 9 million followersReality star Kim Kardashian has just gained over 9 million followers on Twitter. After amassing that staggering number, Kim, 30, tweeted her reaction: “OMGGGGG I just saw I reached 9 MILLION followers!!!!!! I am so speechless! YOU truly are my world and mean everything to me! I LOVE YOU!” The secret to her popularity? Apparently it’s scintillating revelations like “I hate cilantro with a passion!” and, “Do u brush your teeth before u take the red eye flight? I always do in the bathroom. Otherwise its like falling alseep w-out brushing! Yuck.” Disney halts production on Depp’s ‘Lone Ranger’A retelling of the classic western "The Lone Ranger" was supposed to start filming this fall, but Disney has pulled the plug on the anticipated Johnny Depp project. A Disney rep tells CNN, “Yes, that production ['The Lone Ranger'] has been shut down and everyone involved in the production is meeting to figure out next steps.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, budget clashes between Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski are what brought the project down. Weekend reviews in 140 or lessAlthough we're welcoming "The Help," "30 Minutes or Less" and "Final Destination 5" to this edition of weekend reviews in 140 or less, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" still gets top billing in critic and fan reviews - not to mention winning the box office for the second week in a row. "Apes" is currently 82 percent fresh over on Rotten Tomatoes, while "The Help" trails behind with 73 percent of critics giving positive reviews. But Twitter user Maggalicious calls it one of the best adaptations she's seen done on a book she's read, and iReporter Vera Richardson calls it essential viewing for Americans. New Lily joins 'Modern Family'"Modern Family's" Lily has had quite the growth spurt between seasons. As we reported earlier, there was a casting call out for a new daughter for the ABC show's couple Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), seeking an "Asian, 3- to 4-year-old" girl since the character was supposed to start taking on a larger storyline. As Tyler Ferguson previously explained to E!, "Lily will definitely be more prominent in season three...She'll be almost 3, so you have to have her as an integral part of the storyline. You know, she'll be going to preschool and socializing more and all that stuff, so it will be fun." Report: Homeless man living in Ann Curry's homeA homeless man has been residing in Ann Curry's $2.9 million Upper West Side house, unbeknownst to the "Today" show host, reports the New York Post. Curry and husband Brian Ross have been renovating the four-story NYC townhouse for the past eight years, and during that time the Post reports it has become a stomping ground for various vagrants. On Saturday, police arrested a drifter who has lived in the brownstone “for about a year.” The Post spoke to the ousted squatter, who yelled, "Ann Curry means crap to me!" A very Gaga ChristmasI know it’s still August, but I can tell you that Santa Claus’ workshop is going to have some stiff competition this holiday season. Lady Gaga will be creating her own workshop campaign for the iconic New York City department store, Barneys. The retailer has given Gaga an entire floor to create her workshop, as well as the famous store windows to show her display. There will also be a collection of Gaga's Workshop gift items that will raise money for a charity of her choice. Ricky Gervais vs. Larry David on 'Curb'It was a battle royale between two comedy giants on Sunday night’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Larry David started his extended trip to New York (really, just an excuse to avoid showing up to a charity event), but the change of locale took a back seat to the main event. When Jeff mentioned that he had been dying to represent Ricky Gervais, you just knew that Larry and Ricky would meet up before long. Charlie Sheen heckled by JuggalosThis time last year, Charlie Sheen was preparing for the Emmys, but after his many “colorful” episodes, things are a little different for the actor. This year, the former “Two and a Half Men” star made an appearance at the Gathering of the Juggalos, the three-day music festival for fans of the band Insane Clown Posse held in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois. Sheen, 45, hosted Saturday night’s show, and he got mixed reactions from attendees. 'Austin Powers 4' deal in the worksWe haven’t seen the snaggle-toothed secret agent since 2002’s “Goldmember,” but Austin Powers is coming back! Mike Myers is expected to write, produce and star in a fourth “Austin Powers” movie, reports Hitflix. Though the deal is reportedly set, the Hollywood Reporter cautions that Myers, 48, could still drop out at this point. So maybe practice your Dr. Evil impersonation, but don’t bust out the shag wig just yet. “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” arrived in 1997, with "The Spy Who Shagged Me" following in 1999 and “Austin Powers in Goldmember” in 2002. The trilogy grossed $676,356,278 worldwide. (C'mon, Mike, if you give us another "Austin Powers," we'll forget "The Love Guru" ever happened. Deal?) |
