'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Is Linda Evangelista asking for too much?

Supermodel Linda Evangelista wants a staggering amount in child support from Salma Hayek’s billionaire husband, and alleges that he has yet to provide support.

According to reports, Evangelista needs the mega-amounts of cash to cover things like security and drivers ($175,000 a year), and $80,000 for a full-time nanny – so she can maintain her model image,  hitting the gym and making her beauty appointments!

I’m not sure how Evangelista arrived at the $46,000 per month figure, but the guy’s extraordinarily wealthy and if he has in fact been a deadbeat dad, I don’t see anything wrong in her going for it. Remember, if you don’t ask, you don’t get and it’s just the starting point in what will inevitably be a major negotiation.

What do you think? Has Linda gone too far? Or does she – and her son – deserve every penny? Post below – and watch "Showbiz Tonight" today, exclusively at 11 p.m. ET/PT for more on this heated debate.

Salma Hayek should divorce this jerk as soon as possible. I can't stand him and I have never understood while she is with him. Money isn't everything and this guy is amoral.

Child support should be a shared responsibility, and should not include hidden alimony in order to maintain a specific lifestyle for either the child or custodial parent.

My suggestion is that they set up a special "Child Support Plan" checking account so that both parents can make sure that the money is actually spent on the child instead of being used to increase the amount of federal reimbursements the state collects.

It's supposed to be child support, not adult support. I could understand $20,000 or even $25,000 but at $46,000 per month, it wouldn't matter if she worked or not. Seems like she's securing a "model" retirement plan. I know he's rich, but children are not golden tickets and/or automatic cash registers, and both parents have financial responsibility.

If she is hurting for money so bad and needs another peson (nanny) to take care of her child then why doesn't he take custody of the child? She seems to think he's the ultimate provider. By the way, has it been proven in court yet with DNA that he is indeed the father?

First of all, who cares. He's a billionaire, he shouldn't make a fuss. She did everything in her power to practice discretion. He should pay up and move on. Additionally, for those of you that don't know who Linda Evangelista is, understand her contributions as a model to the fashion industry and her role in fashion photography, you are probably ignorant and likely plebeian human beings and should stick to your backward baseball caps, sport's bars, and 'Two & a Half Men'.

I think it's pretty disgusting considering how many people are living on the streets and hungry..someone thinks verrrrrrrry highly of herself. It's a ridiculous amount of $$...just because daddy's rich doesn't mean you have to take advantage of that. Ask for a more reasonable yet sustainable amount greedy girl.

I guess my first question is: Why didn't she get court papers drawn up when the kid was born? If my babydaddy was a billionaire, I expect that to be one of my first priorities. Yes, he should have been contributing, but four years of not paying anything? Six months, tops would have been my time limit. She should get the money. No doubt about it. I just wonder why she waited so long.

THE GUY IS A DEADBEAT !!!! Why is everyone focusing on her request for support, the guy is a BILLIONAIRE and he has PAID NOTHING since the child was born, ZERO ZILCH while he lavishes private schools, estates etc. on his other children. If he was an average person his face would be on a deadbeat child support website, this is chump change to him and he was one the who requested privacy and has not paid any support to the child.

I believe the story goes that he didn't want to be named as babydaddy & promised to pay without court involvement. He renegged on that promise, so now she gotta do what she gotta do. He is a Billionaire who has shirked his resposibility to his child for 4 years, while Evangelista has been patiently waiting! She lived up to her end of the bargain, he didn't, so now the world, including Salma, knows & the court is involved! If any of you have been in a custody situation, then you know the amount paid by the father is usually based on his paycheck. Most of the time you don't get to set your own payment. Some of this is probably back-childsupport. They are both wealthy, she moderately & he super-mega! For those saying she doesn't want to take care of her kid, she has been for 4 years on her own salary, without any involvement of the dad! Don't be so quick to hand the kid over to a parent who didn't even want to be named as such!!

Well, if they were married, he would be paying out that amount for his kid. And besides, it's peanuts for him. Doesn't the dude own Louis Vuitton?

$46K is peanuts to that billionaire sugar daddy. She and the kid deserves the best. She should ask for more!

The father is a billionaire, $46k is a drop in the bucket for him. It won't put a dent in his pocketbook.

Ugh... First, I never understand how half of these people become models in the first place. And, second what she is asking for is just rediculous! If she isn't willing to take care of her OWN child than I agree with MacQ she should give Dad the parental rights.

It takes two to make a baby. It should be two people supporting it. When people don't pay their child support, the public ends up paying it in taxes to fund public assistance.

Not that anyone wants my opinion but I could not agree with you more. I'm sorry, this woman is not remotely good looking. Perhaps she should get a real job, a real life and try raising her child as a single mother just like many others out there and get a grip on reality.

Where was she four years ago when the child was born? Why is she waiting until now to ask for support? She made over $1 million last year alone. Why does she need the money all of a sudden? Not to mention why does she need a FULL TIME NANNY? Is she afraid of her own child? Take some responsibility yourself. If you are wanting someone else to take care of your child then give the child to dad and Salma. Otherwise, be a responsible parent and take part in the raising of that child and not rely on others to take care of it 24 hours a day.

Perhaps she waited for years because they had a private arrangement that didn't work out. Many custodial parents take the other to court for child support due to late or inconsistent payments or failure to pay at all. If this' guy is a billionaire, then his child should benefit from it.
