It looks like “Entourage’s” Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon) can’t catch break in real life either.
According to several reports, an MTV reality star is threatening to sue the team behind the hit HBO show, claiming they stole the nickname “Johnny Bananas” (the name of Drama’s cartoon show) from him without asking.
Former “Real World” roomie Johnny Devenanzio says he’s been using the name Johnny Bananas on various MTV programs and even has the moniker copyrighted.
TMZ reports that Devenanzio (or Bananas, if you're so inclined) hired an attorney who wrote to the shows’ producers, “If you do not cease and desist…you leave us little option but to seek judicial intervention.”
Devenanzio called the show’s using his name in their storyline, “An attempt to capitalize on the name recognition which I’m solely responsible for creating," via Twitter. "I intend to fight vigorously in defense of the years of hard work and dedication I’ve spent making Johnny Bananas a household name, and the purpose of this lawsuit is aimed at protecting the integrity of my brand.”
Oh, but wait, there’s more.
The reality TV participant added to TMZ, "I've been on television for the last 5 years, acting like a jerk-off, creating this name, making it a household name, and I'll be damned if some half-ass gorilla is gonna come by and steal my thunder."
HBO says in a statement on Wednesday, “An attorney for Entourage’s production company confirmed that they have not received any correspondence regarding this matter.”
