'Vampire Diaries' star testifies to save turtles

It looks like former "Lost" star Ian Somerhalder was influenced by all that time on the island.

The animal-loving "Vampire Diaries" actor left Hollywood for Capitol Hill on Thursday to testify before Congress on behalf of Leatherback turtles.

The actor was snapped scooting through Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport in a suit, clutching paperwork.

“Looking around the world at these wildlife, it’s abundantly clear that humans have benefited from nature in so many ways but have also brought many species to the brink of extinction,” the actor said during his speech to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources.

In addition to sharing about turtles, the actor also detailed statistics on apes, elephants, tigers and rhinoceroses.

Think Somerhalder was this passionate about the reptiles before "Zombie Kid Likes Turtles" went viral?

Alecia, sounds like your one of those people who don't care about our wildlife. Be happy that someone like him wants to help save these creatures so that our children and their children's children can enjoy them as well.

This is a great thing that Ian Somerhalder is doing. He's not like the other celebrities who do this once, he does it a lot.

Is Somerhalder qualified to lobby for this cause? Its nice that Gollywood is so concerned but stick to what you know and let M other Nature do her job! Maybe its their time.
