Evan Rachel Wood was still digesting her first Emmy nomination this morning when she sat down to eat her “breakfast of champions” - cream of wheat – with her cat by her side.
The 23-year-old actress was in bed when she learned that she's nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a miniseries or a movie for her role in HBO’s “Mildred Pierce.”
“I had one eye open in case the phone started ringing,” she said. “And it did.”
Wood’s “Mildred Pierce” co-stars, Melissa Leo and Mare Winningham, are also nominated in the supporting actress category, while Kate Winslet received an outstanding lead actress nod.
The miniseries earned a total of 21 nominations.
“They’re all brilliant, brilliant actresses so it’s just really cool that we’re all being recognized in that way,” Wood said.
And though Wood added that she never thinks about the potential acclaim when agreeing to a role – “it’s too distracting” - she’s not about to downplay her excitement now.
“You should totally be proud of yourself and your work,” she said.
A celebration with her friends is in store for this evening, but for now, she said, “I’m just celebrating in my own way. It’s good to wake up with a smile on your face.”
