Drew Peterson: Cease and desist, Rob Lowe

Drew Peterson is out to stop Rob Lowe's next role.

As we previously reported, the "Parks and Recreation" actor's set to star as the ex-cop accused of killing his third wife and suspected in the disappearance of his fourth wife in an upcoming Lifetime television movie.

Not so fast says Peterson, whose lawyers have filed a cease and desist letter, In Session confirmed.

The letter takes issue with the Lifetime Movie Network film tentatively titled, "Ladykiller: The Drew Peterson Story," which it notes is "written by screenwriter Teena Booth, based on a so-called 'true story' 'non-fiction' book, 'Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Sergeant Drew Peterson' (the 'book'), authored by Joseph G. Hosey, a former reporter with the Chicago area’s Herald News."

The communication goes on to state that the book the movie would reportedly be based on  "is a biased and malicious portrayal, far from a 'non-fiction,' 'true story,'" and  is "a deliberate and calculated assemblage of falsehoods constituting a character assassination."

Lifetime told CNN it had no comment and a rep for Lowe said he had no knowledge of the letter and referred calls to Lifetime.

Better to hold off on the movie until there is a decision: Guilty or not guilty. Otherwise the movie may sway the jurors, and even if it doesn't, the defense could appeal based upon the the assertion that the movie DID sway the jurors. We've already had one recent high-profile case which fell apart partly because of the media frenzy surrounding it, why create another?

I went on AMTRAK a few months ago when his book just came out.. I had no idea about it.. But some girl on the train started making all kinds of remarks about how beautiful I was.... She had that book.. She ended up following me for a little bit when I got off the train and then she passed out on the floor holding her Rob Lowe book as I had to keep going.. Even though she couldn't stop looking through her glasses at me.

Even though I have my own thoughts about the likes of Drew Peterson, I think it is highly arrogant that "Hollywood" thinks they can come into a person's life and transpose it onto the screen any way they see fit! Certainly, Rob Lowe can find other material to act in. I, for one, will not support this kind of overreach by the greedy execs in the entertainment industry.

Cease and Disist? Or what? You'll kill me, chop me up and put me in a plastic storage bin, then dispose of my dismembered body later, and then scope out my next victim? Kind of hard to do that from behind bars...

This dude is an unmitigated egomaniac who was often in trouble for his criminal activities while he was a cop! He almost got away with the 1'st murder, & I guess learned it's easier to beat the system if there is no body, for the next murder. Right now he's held for the bathtub murder of Kathleen, pending trial. In the meantime they are still looking for the remains of Stacy Peterson. These tyupes of scociopaths need to be held beneath the prison, to never see daylight again!!

NO – They shouldn't make a movie out of this or any other "Tragic" killing. The Media, and the Movie Industry are always looking for more ways to put money in their pockets – WHAT HAPPENED TO "COMMON SENSE" AND "MORAL'S"? No matter how they spin it – someone was killed, a person lost their life – Let's NOT put the Killer in the spotlight. Although he has not been convicted yet – The proof is on the Defense – As we've already seen – PROSECUTORS DON'T ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST PROOF TO MAKE THEIR CLAIM. I do not watch these type's of shows anyway, I'm not going to help them get good ratings...

I see no reason to waste time and money on a trial for this guy – you've already convicted him right here. Think of all the money we'd save if we just got rid of that annoying "innocent until proven guilty" stuff! The media has already given us all the "facts" in this case – why it's as if we'd been there ourselves and actually witnessed the murder. If you can't trust the American media, who can you trust?

      Most cops don't have character.

They were thugs when they were growing up and they found a job that pays them to be thugs.

Ever notice that cops mostly hang out with one another? Thats because they're thugs. Nobody likes them.

Several years ago, Lifetime had a couple of movies on one day where a husband kills his wife followed by another one where a father molests his children. What made this typical Lifetime lineup striking was that it was on Father's Day! Even my wife (who does like Lifetime) thought it was a bit ridiculous when she saw this.

The book is for sale on Amazon.com already, so this information is already out there in narrative form... I don't see a problem with Lifetime making a movie based on the book. If they were able to block the book from being published for being slanderous and then tried to make a movie based on the "illegal" book then this suit might have a leg to stand on. Lifetime is making a movie based on the book that's been out since 2008. They are making a movie based on a published book... it seems pretty straightforward to me.

The media needs to cool it with the Drew Peterson case, as we are going to have another acquittal, just like Casey Anthony. Nancy Grace, are you reading this. Drew Peterson is shady, we all know that, and he is a poor representation of the badge, and he deserved to get convicted BUT this movie will be a disaster to the legal system. I'm sure Drew will end up with some pathetic fans on his jury and that's all the trial needs to bias everyone and give this loser an acquittal.

And that worked so well with Casey Anthony. Juries today watch too much CSI garbage that they can't understand what 'evidence' entails. This guy's fourth wife disappeared, and he'll be tried for murdering his third wife, but without a body on the fourth, he'll walk, thanks to dimwits who can't put two and two together.

Kate, if they charge him with stuff they can't prove, he'll walk like Casey. They never even proved the kid was murdered, so the 'malice murder' case fell apart. They should have charged her with losing her kid and not preventing whatever happened, and given her ten or fifteen years instead of going for murder. This guy is going to take careful forensics and prosecuting to be convicted because he was careful, but look at him gloating! Guilty.

Often movies will not be relesed for years after the actual filming, and it would be quite likely that they would film 2 different endings to the story, to reflect the actual trial results. Because something is allegedly based on a true story does not mean they are entirely accurate.

Ammityville Horror was supposed to be based on a true story, yet I seriously doubt it's validity.

As long as lifetime waits to release it until after the court has reached a decision, I don't see a problem.

Because Drew was a cop nothing was being done until the press finally put so much pressure on the Police Dept that they had no choice but to finally arrested Drew but they will probably never get a conviction because cops have that powerful secret society that pressures the courts to be very lenient with cops. 80. Beautiful Vixen

@Lisa: lets throw in that az$hole in NY that killed that 9 yr old boy and cut him up. They say that he had some of the boy's body parts in his freezer and some in a trash bin two blocks from his house. So damn sad when you hear people doing these things to children.

Or you could take a moment to get your facts correct. 8-year-old boy. Remains found 2 miles away. What you accurately stated is that it is so sad. Now please, pay attention to the details.

I read the same two block drop spot as beautiful vixen did, so check yourself instead. News stations CAN and DO report different info until the actual confirmations come in. doesnt really matter where it was dropped anyway. A dead, cut up child is still a dead and cut up child regardless of where his parts are found.

Hey, if Drew Peterson and Casey Anthony got together which one do you think would make it out alive and why? Someone should make horror movie called Drew vs. Casey, like Jason vs Predator.

He'd win; she's some bimbo who let something happen to her baby, while he's a cold killer. She acts like someone who's done a hit-and-run; full of grief, but not ready to go to jail over an accident. He acts like the psycho of the week on Criminal Minds.

I am sorry for the actor in this "movie", Will he be getting tips from Drew Peterson? This Drew should be locked up right along with the Scott Peterson, they both are women killers, the only difference is Scott killed his unborn son, and Drew killed a wife and then had the gall to think he could do it again with the 4th missing wife. Of course the 4th wife is somewhere in a decaying swamp where Drew placed her. I hope to see this Drew get his luck. The thing that worries me is that Drew will drop his attorney and go after "JOSE BEIZE", Drew has no doubt kept one eye on Casey Anthonys attorney and thought "Hey that is the way to get my AZZ out of jail... No way will the state let something like this happen a second time.. Be a man Drew and face up to your crimes, Did your 4th wife have a chance?? Hell no. Betty

Mentality of America these days, comparing Casey Anthony to Drew Peterson....nothing in comparison!! By a court of law Ms. Anthony has been acquitted, although the depravity of public opinion will always have her tied by a proverbial noose!! Disgusting and deplorable....ACCEPT IT AND GO ON WITH YOUR LIVES!!

It could be even money as Casey has a monster inside her, she's no different then those mothers who throw their new born baby's in the dumpster and go off to the prom...i.e. Wet T-shirt contest while her child was missing! Innocent charm and looks with tears in her eyes and then BOOM!! I just slit your throat!

Monster v. Monster, what a frightful spin!!!!

Both Peterson boys (DREW & SCOTT), were ten times worse that Casy. Drew not only killed the wife he is currently being tried but there were two other wives that ended up dead. Drew was a crooked Cop who has been allowed to murder women when he got tired of them and his buddies in law enforcement always turned their heads to his hideous crimes. Scott almost got away with the murder of his wife but finally his mistakes came back to haunt him. Casey killed her child but it could have been an accident but the Peterson Boys are hard core murderers.

You're confusing him with Scott Peterson. Scott's the one in jail–different wife killer with the same last name.

Ok, I stand corrected. As someone else correctly posted and others have mentioned: actually, both men are in jail. Scott is on death row. and Drew is still waiting for trial-in jail. Drew Peterson might have a lawsuit. He hasn't been found guilty of any crime, yet. So I guess it is kind of wrong then for them to make the movie now–at least wait until we know if the guy has his trial and is convicted.

Actually, it's not wrong to make the movie, as long as what is mentioned and portrayed in the movie are based on facts that are public knowledge. For all we know, this TV movie could be nothing more than a rehash of what we've already seen in the real thing. The guy's a creep and likely a murderer (if the evidence of his third wife's death is any indication), so I think he already assassinated his character.

Everybody keeps saying that it's not legal to do a movie or book before the guy has a trial, not true. Lifetime did 2 movies about natalie holloway and Joren vander Sloot. What's the difference?

I dont like this. Not because I am in support of Drew Petersen but because this is a clear effort to influence due process. This man stands accused, not guilty, of murder; and no matter how they try and spin it, we all know this movie is gonna make him seem guilty. If I stood on trial for anything, I would hope people would have the decency to wait until I was proven guilty before they made a movie about me. Not to say Drew is not a murderer because I think he is but this should be illegal. Its pretty much slander.

Or, he is confusing him with Michael Peterson. The writer in NC that killed his wife by finding that she had fallen down a flight of stairs...much like his first wife did. What is it with Petersons??

Actually, Cliff, I had them confused, too. Thanks for clarifying both. I was thinking that Scott Peterson was going to be on a real ego trip with Rob Lowe playing him. Now I know which one is which.

I agree with BrickFlair. A movie like this has to take some sort of slant - either outright showing the man is guilty (or innocent), or at least suggesting it. Whatever the angle, it has to create a bias and thus influence the jury.

Why is Lifetime is such a hurry to make this movie? Are there so few other bits of juicy gossip that this one simply stands out? If it is such a brilliant gem, then perhaps Lifetime SHOULD prepare it now, but they should only release it AFTER the trial's conclusion. Of course, what if the trial ends with a different verdict...?

If they make a movie before the trial is over and done couldn't that jeopardize the outcome. Same thing with the book the movie is to based on. It is time to not jump the gun on publishing until due process is done.
