ABC News hires Utah kidnap victim Elizabeth SmartThe Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that ABC News has hired former kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart to serve as a contributor. According to the network, Smart will comment on missing persons cases. The now 23-year-old was abducted from her Salt Lake City, Utah, bedroom in 2002 and held for eight months. "She’ll help our viewers better understand missing person stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing," ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend said. Townsend said ABC's news division has been in discussions with Smart for some time. She has spoken both publicly and in court about her ordeal and her family published a book which CBS adapted into a movie in 2003. A spokesperson for ABC told CNN that Smart could be on the air within a matter of weeks. The announcement comes at the same time that ABC is touting a two-hour news special to run on Sunday about another famous kidnap victim, Jaycee Dugard. Dugard was abducted in 1991, held for 18 years and gave birth to two children by her captor. She has written a book, "A Stolen Life," which is soon to be published and will share her story with ABC's Diane Sawyer during the special. |

So glad that Elizabeth has shown herself to have poise & inner strength. She'll need it if she reads all these lame-brain comments criticizing her makeup & clothing (BTW, many Latter-day Saint women choose to dress conservatively) BEFORE she has even said one word on the air. Ya'll need to get a life! Elizabeth, you go, girl!
Well as I recalled, Ms. Smart didn't want to re-live those horrific moments (when interviewed by Nancy Grace), but now when a big-money contract was offered, she didn't turn it down. She will now be telling the world her story every chance she gets and re-living those same moments she wanted to avoid re-living. Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine the horror that she experienced, but was it the contract that lured her or does she truly want to seek justice for the abducted?
Im beautiful............... And gorgeous...................And a male too.
Yeah you go gal!!!!!
Something about this agreement seems wrong. Seems like there is too much intersection between the news stories and the news agencies these days. It seems way too intertwined. But best of luck to her.
Are ABC's ratings really that low?
I just don't get people who make rude and obscene comments about a young woman who was kidnapped and abuses for almost a year. I think she looks great. And if ABC thinks she has something to contribute, then all power to her. Good luck to Elizabeth.
I think it's time for everyone to stop referring to her as kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart. We remember hearing about her kidnapping so move on. She's no longer a victim, she's a lovely young lady with a life that expands beyond what those criminals did to her. Shame on CNN for making it her tagline.
Make up or no make up I would tap that 7 ways from sunday.
As to her on screen appearance, I'm sure the good people at ABC will take care of it.
This website needs to get organized. Can't tell who said what in a timely manner. Have they never heard of LIFO? That would be Last In First Out...
You are right Ollie, there's nothing wrong with her makeup. What's wrong is that she is not qualified for the "job" that ABC has given her. Nice story, will have no real impact on anything. ABC is paying for the imagery.
Wow! A chance to discuss how a former child-kidnap victim who endured an awful experience might perform as a missing persons commenter is here, but most want to talk about her makeup. Personally, I didn't even think about it when I looked at her picture, just how much older she is each time I see her picture. She sure put Nancy Grace in her place and I hope she's given the leeway to do the same to other sensationalizers in her commentary with ABC.
My oh my, the majority of the posts here are so shallow and superficial. Elizabeth Smart has grown into a compassionate, well-educated and well-spoken young lady, despite the horror she survived. I think she'll do very well and I wish her the best. For those of you more interested in her makeup and what she wears, I'm sure the folks at ABC will make her look just like you want her to look.
Rachel, have to agree about the shallowness of the makeup thing. What upsets me is the shallowness of ABC in hiring Elizabeth as a PR front for which she has no qualifications.
Good luck Elizabeth – you're an inspiration to us all!
You all must be sooo lovely and confident to sit and judge someone else for thier looks. Computer courage. I see your ugliness and I have never even met you.
numerology for Elizabeth Smart joining ABC News as commentator:

@jammy-lmao...great!
WOW... must be nice to be handed a job without any "Journalism" background... What about the unemployed with a degree
in journalism... at least they worked for it, and deserve the opportunity!!
Yes, she suffered throughout her ordeal... she is a survivor!! But she should not be handed a job!!
She is amazing. To have come through her ordeal with mental faculties intact...Astonishing.
(Whispers to herself) "How am i going to get out of this, come on Elizabeth think, think Elizabeth, THINK"
First thing, the article is about a person who survived a horrific ordeal for 8 mths (Duggard was 8 or more years) and NOT her make-up. Second thing, I can understand that yes she could offer incite on being kidnapped and the emotional as well as the physical toll it takes on the kidnappe and his/her family. However, I just don't think it;'s fair that for someone who doesn't have any experience working for any news station to get a job at one of the biggest ones. Especially when you have many aspiring t.v anchors and journalists who put in the hard work and did the internships that has yet to get a job. And what about many other kidnapping survivors for that matter? She isn't the first and only one so why is she getting such special treatment? I am not saying she isn't intelligent and I am definitely not saying she doesn't have the right to help those in simiilar situations deal with, work through, and eventually move on after going through such an ordeal. if anything, I could accept her being a counselor for kidnapping survivors and their families; but to place her in front of a camera and have her report on it is something completely different and that should go to those people who studied and put in the hard work. Just my opinion.
Give her a chance. it'll work out for her, or it won't. Time will tell.. .. Chubby? I think not..
Re:the makeup debate. You are all wrong! This photo was taken in Salt Lake City on the steps of the courthouse as Elizabeth made comments for the press at her abductor's trial. She probably wore extra makeup and dressed nicely because she knew she would be interviewed by the media. It is not a TV pic with TV makeup! It's true what other posters have said – that teens and women in Utah tend to wear more make up than in other places I have lived – there's a over emphasis on blond good looks here! But Elizabeth continued her education at a local high school in SLC, is in college, is actually smart, poised, well spoken, and a survivor. Many survivors of trauma become activists after there lives have been changed. And as a "consultant" for ABC will probably only be working very part time. Now back to the economy...
You go girl! She's beautiful and deserves every break possible in life. Have a great career and life!
I think she will do a great job. I've seen her speak and her beutiful spirit just shines through. Considering what she has gone through she appears to be a strong woman with a grace that becomes her. Good luck Elizabeth!
So it's OK to rub one out to her now?
Terrific! She's earned this opportunity, the hard way. And a smart young woman (no pun intended).
she should stay out of the spotlight......... being kidnapped doesn't give you merits to be a reporter......she is profetting from her misfortune
Great work Elizabeth, you're a true inspiration and your position will help many, True Hero
She looks like a Mormon robot
Glad to hear she's overcome her terrible ordeal and is moving on with her life in a positive way. And good on ABC for giving her the opportunity.
I completely agree.... When I first saw the headlines, I had a warm feeling about ABC. Who knew there could be so much 'junk' generated in such a short time over just a 'feel good' story?
Jesus Christ. Your all friggen retards.
You should all get a life.. quit pointing out others flaws, look at your own nappy ass faces and judge yourself not others,
omg, your all friggen totally retarded ... retards... yes you know who you are!
too bad, shes a prude, I could ahve lots of fun with that acshwitz (Bruno)
Wow, I would've thought FOX News would have been after her to add to their stable of blondes.
She better cut back on her weight or she'll soon look like a blond hippo.
Change you name, you're not a nice guy....
This is a story about a young girl that has gone through a horrific trauma in her life and now she is getting a job. Those of you who don't care and can not think deep enough may still comment about her make up. For those of you who are happy for this girl that is making a great recovery and will become a successful person, congratulations. The make up people can still talk about make up and be jealous.
More News about the News. I can't wait for CNN to cover celebrities's twitter reactions...then we can have news about the news about the news.
Q: So, Elizabeth, at this point do you think she's trying to escape from her captors?
A: What's escape?
So, were you there?
I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by Fedex. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all thisstuff, BuzzSave.comDugard was abducted in 1991, held for 18 years and gave birth to two children by her captor. She has written a book, "A Stolen Life," which is soon to be published and will share her story with ABC's Diane Sawyer during the special.
I think the whole thing is absurd. You have a girl who is making money off the fact that she was abducted and abused as a girl.....AND the main reason it happened is her ignorant father was more or less hiring homeless jobless people in the city and giving them work in his home.....putting his wife and young daughters in danger.
Is she a victim??? Of course she is.....but more of having a stupid ignorant man as a father.
How about Kidnap SURVIVOR instead of victim? She did not chose to become victimized by the evil culprits, but she is moving along with her life with her daughters and should not be continuously called a VICTIM by the press...IMO.
I don't care for stuff like this because all ABC is doing is trying to make ratings using someone that had a bad experience! It's like the jocks who get out of sports and are signed on to be commentators or experts. They have no experience doing the job, but the networks don't care. They bank on the name to get viewers. The same with her. It's not fair to the people who are trained in the news, etc. She had a bad time, but so have many others. It seems networks want these people who have had bad experiences and also ones that have committed crimes to present the news! Pretty sick.
oh jesus, i can just see this nutcase and Nancy Grace get into it.
Hmmmmmmm, what happen to her "mission" overseas or her claimed journey for the LDS?
Oh well, I suppose she deserves this offer being her life was severely altered.
LDS women who go on missions typically go on shorter missions than their male counterparts, with a maximum of 18 months. They also don't go until 21 years old, unlike 19 for men. If she's 23 now, she's had plenty of time to get her 18 months in.
She served a mission for her church. It is not a lifelong mission. Hopefully she will have a great life.
Aside from looking great on camera I thought she had real camera presence when she was being interviewed and giving statements during the trial. Hopefully she won't be restricted to missing person's cases; it would be great if she was able to use her experience as a stepping stone to a career.
I wish her well, she is a very strong young woman but I still cringe to think of her reporting about such issues when she has endured captivity and violence herself. She would be better off going in another direction or as least living privately instead of in the media.
Why does the article start by saying?
'The now 23-year-old was abducted from her Salt Lake City, Utah, bedroom in 2002 and held for eight months.'
then finish by saying
'Dugard was abducted in 1991, held for 18 years and gave birth to two children by her captor.'
Some basic proof reading would be nice.
Elizabeth Smart was abducted in 2002; Jaycee Dugart was abducted in 1991.
Alas, you are the one who needs to read more attentively.
Just a thought, but how do you fire her if she isn't pulling her weight? What kind of backlash will ABC have to deal with in that situation?
I see why other races dislike white people, some of us are always getting rich on crime. Crime pay$ big for some whites. If Casey were black or anyother race, she would have faced the death house.
Just a thought, but how do you fire her if she isn't pulling her weight? What kind of backlash will ABC have to deal with in that situation.
Why do people discuss stuff on here? Seems like a waste of time to me. Get to work.
I'd hit it
This discussion proves that giving the ability to comment in a public forum to the unwashed masses is one part of what is runing the world. Common sense goes out the window, civility and decorum are crushed and trashed and somehow we manage to feel good about our First Amendment rights.
Those all posting negative comments, you are smart enough to realize you are your only audience? No one from ABC or CNN or anywhere else will come here, read your post and suddenly have a 'V8' moment, right? Misery does love company, so keep each other all warm and fuzzy, k?
Wow, the movie "Network" gets one step closer to reality.
I think she is an inspiration, however she has decided to never speak of her ordeal, which is her right...but how is she going to be a reporter/contributer or get other to want to talk.
What is with all the so-called "trained journalists" crying on here that Elizabeth's hiring exemplifies some fundamental problem with American broadcasting. She is smart and motivated and knows the subject, I am sure she will do great. Maybe you all are just pi s s ed because you chose to major in journalism in the first place!
hott!!!
II've been impressed with her whenever I've heard her speak. Thoughtful and well spoken with maturity beyond her years. Just like Adam Walsh's father, perhaps her experience will serve a greater purpose for other people.
And she's an expert on what ?
Smart move on their part. They know that she is going to be a good employee. No matter how bad they treat her and abuse her she will still stay with them.
Just like she stayed with her captor.......reminds of that heiress to the paper empire back in the 70's. What her name again ?
Uncalled for....
E. Smart will do just fine...with or without her makeup on! All you losers can shut up because obviously ABC didn't think your 2 cents are worth anything...being that they didn't hire your dumb butts for the job! So shut the heck up!!!
Good for you Elizabeth. Good for you. You earned it.
Earned....good grief...
I always wondered why people were allowed to comment on stories like this–but now I realize it is a public service that illustrates the stupidity of the average commenter, along with the moron factor, which is off the charts. Good idea. Otherwise I might think that the average comment troll was "average," but apparently "average" is the new genius, at least here. Onward and downward, y'all.
Ha. Well said, sir.
The now 23-year-old was abducted from her Salt Lake City, Utah, bedroom in 2002 and held for eight "months". Huh?
Yes, that is what happened. 8 months. What is your point? Or do you need to educate yourself on the topic before blathering on on the internet?
I only wish this woman the best. I hope she thrives in her new capacity and brings necessary insight into the pain and devastation that missing a loved one causes.
I'm happy for her.
I love hot dogs!
I like to "do things" with hot dogs.
Journalism students take note......get yourself kidnapped in a major case as an easy career opportunity.
It's wonderful to see that after such an ordeal at a young age, how beautiful and poised she is. Good for her and good for ABC.
Good for her and I just hope she's better at getting facts/data correct than reporter who wrote this article?
It opened with Dugard beging abduced from her bedroom in "2002" and held for "eight-months"..???
It closes with Dugard being abducted in "1991" and held for "18 years".. ??? Nice fact-checking and even
better proof-reading – NOT!
Do not believe what you see in-print, especially with dumb-down reporting like this!
I think you need to go back to the top and read the article again. It says Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her bedroom in 2002, not Dugard.
Dude! The irony is so thick I can feel it! You are a total tard, attempting to criticize the article, oh but what a spectacular fail! Hahaha.
Just have to say again, hilarious. Reading comprehension anyone? Then to be so quick on making a comment without comprehending the article. Hahahahahahaha.
"A spokesperson for ABC told CNN that Smart could be on the air within a matter of weeks."
Well let's hope we don't have to wait too long before the next high profile kidnapping!
Good, I think she has handled herself well throught that whole ordeal. She is a fine young lady.
Good for her! She has been remarkably well possessed in her interviews since her return. I think her perspective has real value, certainly better than listening to Nancy Grace.
Oh, jeeze. Why bother with school, professional degrees, internships and such, when all you need to be is blonde, damaged and "notorious"? Why don't you try hiring someone who has worked for years to get the credentials, ABC?
This woman is my hero. She underwent a hell we could scarcely imagine and emerged virtually unscathed due to her unwavering faith. Onward and upward Elizabeth, you mighty creature of God!
Give me a break! This is nothing but an attempt to up their numbers without adding anything to the conversation. She will obviously be able to comment on HER experiences but to think she can comment on others' feelings, thoughts, experiences, etc. is nuts. Don't get me wrong – I hope she does well and enjoys what she'll be doing but making her an expert on kidnapping is like making me an expert commentator on aviation because I flew on a jet.
@Kat-AMEN! As the mother of a black female journalism grad who keeps getting told "Dye your hair blonde and become a celebrity if you want TV work" reading this made me sad! I agree Smart survived a horrible experince and can be a consultant on shows but to give her a fulltime job like she was trained is insulting to REAL journalists like all the reality stars thinking they can act????
Wow, Jaycee already wrote a book?
And the real journalists who have experience, training, etc? Were they allowed to interview for this job?
As a trained journalist - and someone who has nothing against Elizabeth Smart - this is what's wrong with the so-called news media these days. Too many "talking heads" offering opinions instead of reporting. Good reporters do not offer their personal opinions on the subject of their reporting. I too wonder how much insight she can give - other than that of one who may have suffered from Stockholm's Syndrome.
I think she was out there selling herself and ABC was afraid someone else would bet her so they grabbed her. It will be interesting to see how she can provide much in the way of good reporting.
Agreed, where is a real journalist for this job. Such a waste.
Kat,
As a trained journalist, how have you missed honing your skills to the elementary level where you can at least 1) read and comprehend the substance of an article, and 2) discern the difference between 'reporter' and 'commentator'. Trained journalist, indeed. For who, TMZ?
"trained journalist"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. 10-to-1 you are a clown that writes for a small town newspaper. That is what is wrong with 90% of you "trained journalists," you suck! Get over your jealous self and realize that you entered an industry that you have no talent for. Deal with it or move on.
Never mind the make up Has she had surgery to remove the bloodsucking leech of a father from her backside? God I hope so.
She is a Mormon and is supposed to carry herself in a better light. Tone it down for that reason alone.
Yeah, but how long before she gets exed for not being a good Molly Mormon and getting immediately married and be a stay at home mom to 16 kids. Oh wait, she made it into the headlines. Never mind.
I am looking forward to seeing how she does. I wish her well.
All these stupid comments from ugly women who probably can't wear makeup because they will look like Aunt Esther from Sanford & Son.
She is young, pretty and quite glam let her do with her makeup what she wants. She looks great. All TV reporters wear heavy makeup I'd rather see heavy makeup put on with skill then little makeup put on badly, maybe that's what they do in your neck of the woods Clutzty ditz
Everytime I've heard her interviewed she has had NO personality whosoever. And I'm not referring to a natural reticence due to the painful subject matter. She has exhibited the blandest demeanor I've ever seen. She may be a lovely person in her "real life", but I can't think of a worse personality for a network media job.
They don't really hire for personality anymore, in case you haven't noticed.
What do you expect? She is a mormon. Blandest folks around.
Good for her, she is a lovely young lady and her parent's are so amazing!
Peace.
Gee, who knew she had a journalism degree?
She's had an interruption in her life that would have put most people catatonic. She's managed to pull it together and function where others cannot. Good for you Elizabeth. Now they get to be held against their will.
Why..she cannot talk.. and her voice is annoying.
Ha ha...that's Sarah Palin you've just described !!!!
You are annoying and your family wished they had aborted you. I can see how this has made you angry.
that's too looking good, so successful troll is successful
http://www.hoodaki.com/
Hope they don't hire Anthony for comment on murder suspects.
You should apologize for comparing a kidnap survivor to a baby killer...
it's hard to believe someone who reads the news can be stupid. I hope for your sake, you were high on crack when you said that, else you will have to go one being ignorant.
Wait, I heard she was a little slow. Like she was in a special ed class? If so I do not see how she could handle this kind of job, but then again reporters are not rocket scientists. I hope ABC News is serious and gave her a lot of tryouts and practice, it's not like she has a Journalism or Broadcasting degree. It should not be just about her looks and a charity case job offer, I would not want her to bomb and make us cringe (like that Bush kid charity case does on the Today Show). I guess we will find out soon enough.
You really are a cynic aren't you? Obviously ABC isn't going to just put anyone on, they will look for several factors besides being known. Give her a chance
You heard she was slow? Special ed classes? Please quote your source. If you are going to put that out there about someone you should be able to back it up.
your name is poopshoot...I guess your comment makes sense then
She is not slow. She is in college and is a smart and accomplished person. Don't know where you heard that but goes to show you can't believe everything you hear.
Based on your comment, I would say you are the TARD.
Go troll elsewhere because you fail.
She is a lovely, intelligent girl. I am delighted for her.
Good for her. She had a really bad break in her life, so I'm happy that she's getting a good break now.
Zzzzzzz....oh sorry.
I thought she had excellent communication skills and its great to see her talent appreciated by a major network
She is gorgeous and very poised.
Will ABC now how an immigrant to report on all things immigration, or a minority from the inner city to report on what they see? Just curious...
you're...a dunderhead?? (better question) It's great how you had to find some sort of issue in this story of someone going through most likely years of psychological trauma and coming back to provide insight on future cases to people who might not be able to understand things such as Stockholm syndrome...
In related news, HLN has hired Casey Anthony to comment on murdered children's cases.
And Sarah Palin is going to comment on intelligent life on other planets.
Your an idiot!! John Walsh became an avid spokesperson for Americas Most Wanted, even though he endured what most parents consider hell on earth. Im certain Elizabeth will be just as compassionate and carring in her new job. Good for you Elizabeth!! Some people should learn when to shut the hell up.
ABC, you do know that just because her last name is Smart, it doesn't mean she is.
Your last name isn't Smart, and we know that you're not.
She not only finished junior high and high school when she returned, but also went to college and has a degree. Give her some credit
Bet you were REAL proud of yourself when you thought up that lame statement.
Wow, this old fart thinks he made a funny comment.
FAIL OLD FART!
This will be harder than she thinks. Each time she reports on a kidnapped child, it's going to make her relive what she went through. Hope she's strong!
After what she went through – she must have incredible inner strength.
Facing it on a regular basis is actually a healthy way to deal with past trauma. The more you process it, get it out there, the easier it is to let go of the pain.
Not necessarily. I talk about my childhood s3x-ual abuse to groups every so often and I don't "relive" it. It depends on how much healing work she has done among many other factors.
WooHoo!!!! Way to go Elizabeth! Congratulations!
How about calling her a kidnap survivor instead of victim?
Because being on the receiving end of a successful kidnapping doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to die. And she most certainly was the victim of a kidnapper...
I'm not saying that she wasn't a victim. She most certainly was. Perhaps, though she doesn't want to be labeled a victim for the rest of her life.
Ditto!
AMBER ALERT!
I agree. She was a victim but she fought back. She's strong. God bless her. Let's call her a survivor!
I like elbow macaroni
mmmmmmm... elbow macaroni
I'm partial to the bowties or linguine myself. And what about shoes? Most captives forced to walk long distances in the woods and whatnot usually wear really uncomfortable shoes that aren't stylish at all.
New Rome has totally fallen.
Being the kidnapee, how would she be able to explain to the viewers "what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing"?
She has a family. I'm pretty sure they all talk to each other. Why wouldn't she solicit their input in such matters, as a professional journalist?
I just bet her family shared – don't you
Please tell me you're kidding...
You're commenting on her makeup? Really?! Good grief.
Maybe it's a bad picture, but I just thought that she was wearing a little too much eye makeup.
She's gorgeous. She survived and she can wear as much make-up as she damn well pleases. She's an eloquant speaker and I can't wait to hear her perspective.
I AGREE!!! I was thinking the same thing as I read the replies. I cannot believe all the comments about her makeup. As I read the story, I couldn't help but think about what an amazing woman she has become and such an inspiration to so many people, especially women. Way to go Elizabeth!!!
My goodness! Jiminy Cricket! Holey macaroni! By gosh! Oh my lord!
Yes, yes he is. And that's the FIRST thing I noticed when I loaded this article... good golly miss molly!
good for Elizabeth!
Agreed. Not only would this be good for her to bring a positive to her recovery, but she would be someone who would bring a believable and compelling 'picture' of the victims. I
I wonder if she has forgiven her own father for bringing the homeless guy into thier home who later kidnapped Elizabeth. YOU DON'T HEAR THAT FACT WHEN HER AIR HEAD DAD IS ON ALL THE TALK SHOWS. IT'S HIS FAULT.
Just MHO, but I think she wears Waaaaaayyyyyy too much makeup.
I agree, she is real pretty and doesn't need it
You folks are pretty shallow
It has nothing to do with being shallow. I was merely commenting on her picture. I'm sure she'll do a fine job for ABC, but I think she needs to tone down the makeup a little bit.
Her make-up was probably done by the studio – it has to be very exaggerated for the camera to avoid her looking pale. Check out Robin Meade tomorrow morning on HLN – she's gorgeous, but if you look closely, she has on a LOT of make-up, for the lights and camera.
@MaggieJS You dont need to "look closely" at Robin to see that it takes a one ton truck to bring in her morning make up every day. IMO the only pretty one over at that lame news station is Susan.
About this story Imma gonna agree with Dave75. Unless shes strong (mentally) it might be a bad idea for her to do this.
Make-up for stage and camera is very different from "real life" make-up. I'm sure that why her make-up looks so exaggerated there.
That's actually pretty common here in Utah. For some reason girls here think that if you cake on enough makeup and smile, guys won't notice.
First thing I thought when I saw the pic. She's too pretty for all that but I do see the TV makeup vs. regular makeup comments. I'm just for natural beauty I guess.
@GoodGawd uhh the ones who wear makeup are the shallow ones.
She looks 33 not 23. Glad to see she got past her ordeal and is moving onward and upward and down on a drug/booze death spiral. Hollywood idiots should learn from her.
Clutzycrook or whatever your name is, maybe you live in a trailer in Nebraska but her makeup looks fine. When you are on TV the lights wash out most of your makeup and I think she is beautiful just the way she is. Why should she tone down anything for your lousy opinion.
Of all the stupid things to comment on yours takes the cake.
I think that she deserves to be cut a whole lot of slack.
we wear a little more makeup when we feel a little less confident at times...maybe, having been thru her ordeal, she wears a little more to 'hide' in a sense.....she is very attractive and I give her so much credit...I get you all are behind her and not making fun of her.....it could be she's still looking to come out of the darkness she was put thru
I agree, but I also think that it might be TV makeup that looks excessive from the side in a normal photo. When she appears around here (Salt Lake City) she does not look that way.
Seriously? You think she has a bullet proof self esteem? You think she isn't fragile still underneath the outer shell? Any women in the world that "wears too much makeup" is doing so to make themselves more confident. This one gets a pass, got it? When it comes to people "like this", ie. people that have been through some level of unfortunate ordeal against their choosing and for no fault of their own, perhaps your "humble" opinion is best kept to yourself dipwad. A little more acute sensitivity would likely serve you well. -35 yo male
My problem lies more with her clothing choices. She dresses as though she's a 50 year old woman, not a 23 year old YOUNG woman. She won't be someone that people can relate to dressed like that.
Are there seriously a million comments based JUST on her make-up?? I don't recall the story being about how much make-up she is wearing. Get a life!
She should work in a bakery with all that CAKE!!!
So much foundation, you could build a house on that face...
Most of you are just a bunch of sick freaks. Get help.
Chances are she didn't have a say on the make up. Most likely the crew chose her wardrobe and did her make up however the executive producer wanted it done. That's the way television works. Good job Elizabeth, go use your powers for good and for awesome!
whats sad is her ordeal could have been avoided if her Dad hadn't brought home street trash to work in the home, then go to bed with doors unlocked , with parents like that she didn't have a chance...
Hey wait? Wasn't she held for 8 years??? Not 8 months (as the report says)??
All news people wear loads of makeup (women and men alike). I'm used to the Ken and Barbie look. I'm glad she's gone on to have a successful life. Good on her.
most likely the flash from the camera other pictures she looks really nice.
Wow, thats all you get from this heart breaking story?
Shallow and judgemental. Stupid and mean are a bad combination, Hugh.
You do realize the fail you have put upon yourself, right? The spelling of your name doesn't even come close to the sound you were aiming for, which is pretty obvious combined with your infantile remark.
Hey, "hew" sac, you realize you're a pig, right?
Only Hollywood and the modeling industry would call that chubby.
Bwhahaha. "Hew" sac. Fail, dude.
Well, she's getting into a profession that's nothing if not shallow. I agree that comments on her weight and make-up are silly, but wait till some network exec says "We love you, Liz, but you're getting a bit chubby so do everyone a favor and lose 15 pounds."
successful troll is successful
Drop dead troll.
Hugh wasn't insulting her, it was a compliment. Chubby girls rock!
Congrats to Elizabeth, I hope she celebrates at the Cheescake Factory!
@hamburger steak & bristol palin......why don't you two hook up...it would be a marriage made in heaven. You'd never fight over who has taste because neither of you do!
And there's nothing wrong with her make-up, you catty beaches!
