What's in a name? According to Paul "DJ Paulie" Lis, his career.
The South Windsor, Connecticut DJ filed a lawsuit Thursday against MTV and other companies that have promoted Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio alleging that the "Jersey Shore" star has misappropriated his name, according to the Hartford Courant.
Lis, who's been going by the stage name since 1973 and also has it trademarked, says that Pauly D's climb to fame has eclipsed his ability to get his own version of "Paulie" out there.
"Anytime you search DJ Paulie, his name and face come up. I can't compete," Lis said.
He also claims that “before the show went on the air, my website was very successful and getting attention from national advertisers. Now, I’ve pretty much been wiped off the Google map.”
According to Radar Online, Lis’s lawyer says that the DJ's primary goal is to get his name – and, as he puts it, his reputation – back.
“I don’t want to be associated with that show, the drinking, the violence,” Lis said. “I’ve prided myself in being G-rated. ‘Jersey Shore’ is hardly family entertainment. The show is hurting my business. It’s ruining my reputation.”
