If you were around to see the original “Footloose” in 1984, get ready to have a serious sense of déjà vu.
A trailer for the 2011 remake has arrived, and it shows that the new version isn’t straying far from its predecessor. In director Craig Brewer's update, Ren MacCormack moves from Boston to Bomont, a small Southern town where a dance ban has been put into effect following a post-dance car crash.
With help from his love interest, the preacher's daughter Ariel Moore (Julianne Hough), Ren decides to take the ban on. Dennis Quaid stars as Ariel's father, Rev. Shaw Moore.
Although Zac Efron and Chace Crawford were attached to the part of McCormack, newcomer Kenny Wormald - born in the same year as “Footloose’s” release - is taking on the role, and he told Movieline that he’s indeed a fan of the original.
“I saw it when I was about ten years old,” Wormald says. “I remember being blown away because I was already dancing by the age of six, so I was very inspired and moved by Kevin [Bacon’s] performance. Especially that angry dance, when he’s in the factory going crazy.”
As for how close the remake is to the classic, Wormald explains that Brewer wanted to keep the story intact while finding a way to make it contemporary.
“Everyone on set, myself, the director, Julianne — we’re all super big fans of the original so we knew that you didn’t have to do much to the story to make it work. Craig Brewer definitely has a raw edge and his musical edge is a good fit for ‘Footloose’ – it stays true to the original story but he added contemporary elements, made it 2011, we updated the music but some of the original music is in it and some of the original music is remade in it.”
Wormald adds that he thinks once “Footloose” fans see the film, which arrives in theaters October 14, “it’ll be like revisiting it. It’ll give you those good feelings, but it’s not a line for line remake.”
I do not even understand how I finished up here, but I believed this put up was great. I don't realize who you are but definitely you are going to a famous blogger when you aren't already. Cheers!
This looks terrible. Like a country 'Step Up". The main guy is fugly and Julianne Hough looks too old to pull off High School. Leave classics alone. http://bit.ly/k4vfxU
Looks like a steaming pile. First one was hokey and fun and certainly did not need to be remade.
have you seen the hilarous footloose trailer comparing side by side the 1984 version and 2011. hilarious take on crushable.com? worth the time if your into laughing!
Another piece of crap starring a bunch of pretty talentless people.....
Do we really need a remake of this yawner?
they should let usher or chris brown lead they are real dancers
About as pointless as the Dirty Dancing "sequel".
Hah! Got one past you! Break out your dictionary and your thesaurus, mr moderator, because you are no match for me.
Physically discipline your progeny.
I cannot understand for the life of me why the moderator will allow references to scat and urine, but refuses to allow a post advocating physical discipline of children. Stop allowing your beliefs to trample those of others, you epitome of arrogance!
Post the comment i sent through about classics, you ignorant twit! All moderators like this one should be jobless, homeless, and childless, because this one acts brainless.
The moderator working right now should be first in line at the unemployment office tomorrow.
I thought Randy Quaid got probed by aliens on the 4th of July?
Hooray! Remake # 28 that has been announced this year. Keep em rolling Hollywood. Originality?! What's that?!
Yes Randy Quaid is a great actor. One of the best. I wish he would be in every movie playing Cousin Eddie. Cousin Eddie is the man!
YEAH! RANDY QUAID IS HOT! AND AN INCREDIBLY TALLENTED ACTOR!
They should get Randy Quaid to do the kevin bacon part. Randy is a good guy and seems to need the money.
Me too dave nelson. I think they are just a bunch of ignernt tards.
First off, i agree that the whole remake trend has gotten out of hand. Footloose was and is a great movie. Instead of remaking it, why not rerelease it, maybe with digital upgrades? Let this generation see how it was done right the first time and stands on its own merits. As for the other nonsense being posted here, i feel for those with such empty lives. Pity.
Julianne Hough sure looks good in those jeans.
so do my hands
They should remake the first Harry Potter but in 3D. Or maybe make a prequel.
I wonder what Emma Watson is doing today? I hope she is having fun. She sure is a cutie!
they should have gotten Kevin Bacon to play the minister role.
Is anyone capable of writing original movies? The hollywood obssession with remaking things that have been done before is getting old. Hey hollywood, make something original more often!
They should just drop the word "Movie" from the dictionary and replace it with "Re-make" Hey, wanna go see a Re-make this week-end? Where you going on your date? He's taking me to dinner and a Re-make.
I can't wait to see what they have done with footloose. I grew up in the 80's and that was one of my favorites. Lots of great memories at the theater with my girlfriends. I still watch it on TV from time to time.. I hope it does the same for this generation.

I can't believe some of the comments that are allowed on here. Not even relevant to the story.
The Post by ray ray is probably one of the most offensive posts I have seen in a long time.
Dropping a deuce in your gatorade.
gee, i hope they make it in 3d
dont you know Hollywood by now?
They cant release a 3D version until a couple of weeks after the 2D version has been out.
Me and my boyfriend will sit on the backrow chomping on some fresh chewy PoopCorn.
It's "my boyfriend and I", use proper grammar, twit.
