A copyright infringement lawsuit didn’t delay “The Hangover Part II’s” release in theaters, and it won’t affect the film’s transition to DVD, either.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has settled with the tattooist who claimed the ink Ed Helms sports in the comedy infringes on the distinct copyrighted art boxer Mike Tyson has emblazoned on his face.
The artist, S. Victor Whitmill, initially tried to stop “Hangover II’s” May 26 release but a judge ruled that the laugh fest was to arrive in theaters as planned, although the case was to move forward.
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. did file court documents suggesting that the tattoo would be digitally altered on the DVD if the case didn’t settle, but since then the studio seems to have reached an agreement with Whitmill.
THR reports that the terms of the settlement weren’t disclosed, but that Warner Bros. said in a statement, “Warner Bros. and Mr. Whitmill have amicably resolved their dispute. No other information will be provided.”
“The Hangover: Part II” has gone on to gross $488.7 million globally, making it the biggest R-rated comedy of all time.
Oh come on! There shouldnt have even been a settlement because the tatoos werent identical! Must be a bad day @ the stamp shop!
This is a stupid movie, about stupid people, for stupid people. End of story!
They wanted to make a couple hundred million before they talked about settlement.....eh?
Lol. Oh, Mike!
Hi Super Nintendo Chalmers
A little money is all it takes to smooth most things over.
shut up, you are the one promoting your traamp tattoo.
He auditioned for our group but didnt make it. Just not Monkee material.
Tattoos are just trashy.
Well I'm betting this publicity isn't great for the artist. Then again Ed Helm's character gets man handled by a tranny and this was the top selling movie of the year.
The WB is nice. I miss the old WB network. The frog mascot was friendly.
its just a tattoo! Seriously the guy probably didnt even find out about it until someone told him.. All he wants is attention and money.. shame shame
What a crock!
