'Lost' actor marries 16-year-old girlfriendIt was a twist that even "Lost" fans probably didn't see coming. Actor Doug Hutchison, 51, announced that he has married his 16-year-old girlfriend, Courtney Alexis Stodden. According to a notice on his website, Hutchison has been enjoying wedded bliss with the aspiring country singer for a few weeks. "Doug Anthony Hutchison and Courtney Alexis Stodden became husband and wife on Friday May 20th, 2011, at 12 p.m. in The Little Chapel of Flowers in Las Vegas, Nevada," the statement on his site says. "Mr. and Mrs. Hutchison live together happily ensconced in their Hollywood Hills home with their lil' pups, Everette and Tuna!" Hutchison has appeared on various shows and films including "Lost," "The X Files" and "Green Mile." On "Lost" he played Horace Goodspeed, the leader of the Dharma Initiative group on the island. The newlyweds released a statement to E! in light of what is sure to be a few raised eyebrows over their 35-year age difference. "We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the statement said. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless."

Not long ago a girl of 11 could get married in Mass. In Mississippi they can get married without parents permission I think at age 13.If a girl can legally get married what difference does it make what age the guy is as long as he can support her and take care of her? I'm going to be 49 in less than two months. That would be like me marrying someone who's a 14 year old. Is she really 16? I realize in some parts of the country 16 can be considered an adult with consensual relationship (with or without parents' approval). Marriages are supposed to last a lifetime. I'm going to share my personal story... take it for what it's worth. When I was 17, I dated a man who was 41. We were together for 3 1/2 years. We were in love. There was no doubt that our love was real. And my parents didn't approve (who's would?). Anyways, I always told myself, especially early in the relationship, that if my parents ever accepted him that I would marry him in a heartbeat... afterall, we were in love right? Well, what a mistake that would have been! Sure, things were good at the time and we had an amazing relationship, and I was also spoiled rotten... but as I reached closer to 20 years old, major changes took place in my mind. I got fed up with seeing his ex girlfriend, the mother of his kids. I got fed up with his daughter being nearly a teenager, and trying on my clothing – or wanting to buy the same pieces I wanted. I got fed up with having to stay up till 1am for his kids to go to bed, so we could finally have some alone time. I got fed up with never being able to take a vacation just the two of us, because he felt guilty about leaving the kids at home. I got fed up with being with someone who thought they knew everything, because they were much older and experienced than me - I could never teach him a new thing, ever. His leathery sausage-man fingers started to gross me out. The wrinkles were starting to become more apparent... he was a grown man, and it started to feel like I was dating my father.
I started to look at younger boys again. I missed my friends... I wanted to try this "bar scene" that everyone was talking about. I wanted to live without the burden of having someone worrying about me every time I'm not with them. I wanted to let loose and party... until I find my prince charming to start my OWN familiy with. Someone I could travel with, someone that would be accepted by my parents and siblings.
Needless to say, the relationship started to deteriorate fast after I lost interest. He fought hard to keep me, but his manipulating ways were not nearly enough to persuade me!
I finally tasted true happiness again when I broke things off for good.
I realized that my parents were right all along, but I was too young and "in love" to know better.
Some times you just have to live through these things and it's the only way that you learn. I'm not saying this chick shouldn't be with this guy, but I can guarantee that after a few years, or sooner, it will get old. She will regret the marriage one day and they will split. It's natural and part of growing up. Every woman goes through major emotional and mental changes as they transition into their 20's.
For those of you who say she only loves his money... don't doubt that they love eachother. And the age gap may seem icky to you, but you shouldn't judge - you don't know what it's like. I can tell by the pictures they are in love and happy. But will it last? That's a whole different story.
The HUGE difference here is there are no kids in the picture, he doesn't have any... Children really mess up a single parent / single person relationship when the single person really doesn't want to deal with that stuff. I am 38 & married less than a year... My wife is 50 with a child of 24... I didn't want children & I found this to be a perfect situation, plus my wife & I get along like nobody else I have ever been with... This relationship has a higher chance of success than yours because he doesn't have any children. If he did, I doubt he would ever be with a person younger than one of his own children. I know a lot of guys who use that as the threshold.

What I do know is that Courtney is from the same area I am. 2 years ago she was Miss Ocean Shores which is the town in Washington State that she is from. 16 years of age is the "age of consent" in most states in the USA. If it's okay for them to go to bed together, stop being butthurt over them marrying. If she was actually 18 the vast majority of you wouldn't be so upset. Sixteen is too young to get married. And so is eighteen (most of the time),but at eighteen no one who cares about them can stop them. I'm 46 years old, have been very happily married to my best friend for 22 years, and have four children (two of whom are young adults). So trust me when I say that I am not jealous, just disgusted that a man old enough to be this girl's father would make a decision that clearly demonstrates no concern for her emotional well-being. For those of you who go on about how your grandmothers got married at young ages, you need to consider that childhood was VERY brief prior to WW2, as soon as you could help the family you were put to work. How many of us can look in our famiily tree and find someone that was married in their teens?
