'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn killed in car wreck

Ryan Dunn, one of the stars of MTV's "Jackass" films and TV series, was killed in a fiery car crash on a Pennsylvania highway early Monday, police said.

A passenger in Dunn's 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 was also killed, but investigators have not positively identified the body, according to the police report sent to CNN.

The red-bearded Dunn, 34, was famous for his pranks and dangerous stunts on the show, which evolved into a successful film franchise.

West Goshen, Pennsylvania, police were called to the wreck scene on State Route 322 at 2:30 a.m., the police report said.

"Upon arrival, police located one vehicle off the road and in the woods that was fully engulfed in flames," the report said.

"Speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident," police said, although the investigation is in its preliminary stages.

Dunn was driving the Porsche, which was registered in his name, police said.

A photo of Dunn was posted on his Twitter account about two hours before the wreck showing him with a drink in his hand. Two men sitting with Dunn in the photo are not identified.

The manager of Barnaby's in West Chester, Pennsylvania, confirmed that the photo was taken in his bar Sunday night. The bar is about a mile away from where Dunn was killed in a car crash.

Manager Jim O'Brien confirmed that Dunn was drinking there.

"He didn't seem to be intoxicated at the time he left," O'Brien said. "Ryan was not a hardcore drinker, at least not when he was here."

O'Brien said Dunn was a regular customer and well known to his staff.

"He was a valuable person in our community and his death is a tragedy," O'Brien said. "He will be missed."

MTV issued a short statement through its Twitter account Monday morning: "We're deeply saddened by the passing of a member of the MTV family, Ryan Dunn. Our hearts and thoughts are with his friends and family."

"Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville tweeted his message Monday morning: "Today I lost my brother Ryan Dunn. My heart goes out to his family and his beloved Angie. RIP Ryan, I love you buddy."

Dunn teamed up with "Jackass" co-star Steve-O for an episode of the NBC game show "Minute to Win It" that aired on June 8.

He also hosted "Proving Ground," which premiered on the G4 channel on June 14.

No pity for the self inflicted. Like the billboards say: "You Drink, You Drink, You Loose". The lose of a loved one is always tragic and sad, my condolences to his friends and family. Lets just hope some of the idiots who try his stunts, learn from his poor judgement.

My friend lives in the area of the crash. He could've been driving home from the weekend spent with us in NJ when this idiot recklessly and purposely drove at a crazy rate of speed, apparently under the influence of alcohol as well as stupidity. It makes me sick to think of how many times in the past he probably did the same thing and got away with it, just lucky to have not killed my friend or one of his friends or family members. Really, wise up people. Of course it is sad for Dunn's family and friends. But there's really no reason to romanticize his blatantly disrespectful behavior. The spelling and grammar wars here are pretty humorous, especially coming from those who can barely read. LOL

Ryan was a uniquely smart, unassuming, humble and grateful man. I met him in a bar in WC. We shot pool and talked about cars for about a month before he told me "who" he was. I initially thought it was kind of weird that he presented himself as if his career was no more noble, significant or lucrative than that of a pizza delivery guy, but yet he played with a $400 cue, and had some deal with the bar where he'd just go back and tap off his own drink rather than wait for the bartender... I'll pray for you, your family, friends and admirers Ryan. God bless, and RIP.

If the bar manager admitted that he was drunk, they could be held liable for continuing to serve him.
His description is suspect at best.
It sucks for his fans, friends & family that he's dead.
It probably sucks worse for the friends & family of the passenger.
At least it doesnt suck for the relatives of a family w/ kids that could have been killed.
150,000 to 160,000 people die a day in this world. Life is a terminal state.
No need to engage in drinking & driving (or texting/drowsy/drugged/etc & driving). It's selfish.

Wow, show some respect, would you? The bottom line is that Ryan Dunn has passed away due to DUI! You people make hateful comments because he was "having a good time" So what a celebrity (sorry bout the spelling) cant go out anymore?!?! It seems like were losing all our legend and famous people, but everyone has a time and place to pass away .. and so you want to act like you have never seen someone drink a shot or sip a beer. This is a very TRAGIC thing to happen to such a both entertaining and wealthy man. I have always been a fan of Ryan Dunn and I would like to have him back just like his FAMILY which is probably crying at home. Seriously people this can happen to anyone.. It was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.. RIP Ryan Dunn, I will pray for you and your family

Although it may never be proven if he was driving drunk, his reckless driving should serve as a dire warning to others. Speeding is a choice. Drinking is a choice. A 34-year-old MAN acting like a child, racing down a curvy road in a sportscar with a passenger in tow is inexcusable. People who drive drunk should be locked up on the FIRST OFFENSE and have their licenses and driving privileges revoked for LIFE! NO TOLERANCE! Drunk driving is one of the most heinous, selfish and disgusting crimes imaginable. Thank God no innocent children were KILLED because of this CHOICE.

Being familiar with the stretch of road where he had the accident, I'm not shocked. Folks exceed the speed limit all the time, and that includes large trucks coming from the nearby quarry. It's been reported by local media that his car burst into flames upon impact and that they had to shut the entire road down to removed the charred remains of the car's frame, which was the only thing left. So he basically was burned alive. Hopefully the impact of the crash knocked him out. Terrible way to go.

The negative people posting in this seem to portray Dunn as some sort of criminal, or someone that influences people to the point of insanity. That isn't true at all. Most people have the god-given ability to make their own decisions and that includes wrong decisions. That doesn't place a label on a person though as a detriment to society. Wake up people...he wasn't a mass murderer or terrorist or anyone that wanted to inflict pain and sorrow on other people. There are dumber people in the media than Dunn. Rest in Peace Ryan. Amazing how such a tragedy happens, and everyone is so quick to fight and bicker when all opinions are shared on the situation. Just because someone has a different opinion then your own, doesnt mean you should bash them for it!

And if you are so quick to jump to conclusions on the situation b4 the information has been released, then u need a day/night job, so you aren't so concerned about stars and their business!! Google provides us with a bunch of information yes, but is it truly correct b4 put up, probably not, or not right down to the detail anyways. anyone who has had to wait on an investigation in real life would know how long it takes for anyone to have answers to what may have happened.

so save the fighting and bickering and just wait to hear what happened instead of fighting over all of it. Im sure Ryan wouldnt want his fans fighting over what had happened to him.

I will NEVER say that someone's death is a good thing (except in the event of people who commit mass murders and such). While his stunts did influence a lot of people to do stupid things, one can not say that WATCHING something is the only influence people have. Look at the music we listen to, and let young children listen to. Excluding rap, look at people like Lady Gaga that all these young girls listen to. However, I do not blame the industries. I blame the parents. Do not put the blame on today's television, music, video games, and else. Look at yourself. How much have you been there for your child? What sort of vales have you instilled into your child? We can not allow our television sets to be our baby sitters and then expect them to do what is right. It is NOT the responsibility of government, television stations, radio stations, video game companies, or any other source of media to make sure that our kids grow up right. What I am saying is this: if someone dies trying to reproduce a stunt seen on Jack-Ass, do not blame the makers of the show/movies. Look at how they were raised. Take some responsibility for the things that you have done, or, as the case seems to be, NOT done. That is irresponsible.

While it is not surprising that Ryan Dunn has died at such a young age, it is VERY sad. The way he died was so tragic. My condolences go out to friends and family. I hope that something good can come of this. Perhaps this will be a solemn reminder to EVERYONE (not just the people of Jack-Ass) that no matter how invincible you feel, you are not.

Again, my condolences go out to everyone who was close to him. It is a tragic way to die. Rest in piece, Ryan Dunn. Rest in pieces.

    Wikipedia says:
On June 20, 2011 at approximately 3:30 am EDT, Dunn died in a car crash in West Goshen Township, Pennsylvania[7]. Reports from TMZ state that he posted a photo of himself drinking with friends hours beforehand.[8] At the time of the accident, Dunn was believed to have been traveling over 110 mph (180 km/h). An unidentified occupant of the vehicle was also found dead at the scene.[8] WKST-FM reported that both of the bodies had suffered severe burns, and the emergency medical technicians experienced difficulty in identifying the vehicle's occupants; Dunn was reportedly identified by his tattoos and facial hair[9]

He was killed at 3:00 am and you don't think partying was somehow involved? He may not have even been driving, but you don't die in a car accident a 3:00 am unless drugs and alcohol were involved.

    • Leslie

I guess all of us that have to be at work around that time are either drunk or doing drugs because we are driving fast at 3 am? Not everyone makes mistakes at 3 am that involve alcohol or drugs. Don't be quite so judgmental until you know ALL of the facts about it.

Really? That's a stupid assumption. I drive to work at 3am and have a 40 minute commute. Weather and wildlife can both contribute to a car accident. That's probably not what happened here, but alcohol is not the only contributing factor to automobile accidents, no matter what time of the day.
Now, imagine for two minutes that this happened to a friend or family member of yours, and show the respect you would want/need to his family. Regardless of the cause of death, as senseless as it is, he had friends and family who are grieving now.

....No, Darwin is not to call (on the white phone)....this is not evolution at work. This is not a case of the strong surviving and the weak dying off. Evolution now favors the stupid. Go watch Mike Judge's "Idiocracy"

This is a sad case of perhaps a young successful man making series of bad mistakes. Condolences to all that knew and loved the two that perished.

Dr. Reality-just stepping in here. That is so not what evolution is about. Natural selection, one of the mechanisms by which evolution occurs and which Darwin formulated is the concept that certain behaviors are selected for or (more often) against. Dunn engaged in risky behavior. If one were to assume that such behavior were inheritable and he had not yet had children, then yes, his behavior was selected against by his death. That in no way makes his death funny or good or anything else childish. But if you are going to correct someone about evolution, then know what it is.

Though I'm sure canuk100 meant it as an insult, he's probably closer than most. The entire j@cka$$ crew exhibit fitness limiting behavior. Testosterone driven displays of dominance (the "dude blow something up that will impress her" effect as my husband puts it) are ingrained in humans, particularly males. These guys were and are extreme about it. What do you think the number one cause of death in men ages 16-25 is? I'm married to someone who did some seriously stupid sh!t when he was younger. We had a running bet on how he was going to die. He's a little smarter about it these days, but yeah, when you constantly engage in risky behavior, you can't be surprised when you die. His last thought was probably something along the lines of "Aw, Hell." We don't have to call him stupid, we don't have to laugh at his death, but we also don't have to act like it's some shocking tragedy. He chose his life. I doubt even if he knew what would happen that night that he would have done anything different.

It's not always "the cool people" (sic). You're just not commenting on the stay-at-home mom and her 11-year-old son who were killed by a drunk driver yesterday on their way home from the dog park. Whether Ryan Dunnwas a cool person is open to debate. A lot of adjectives can be used, none of which are synonyms for "cool."

It's not always the cool people. First, if you think someone who drinks and drives habitually is "cool," you've got issues. (Yeah yeah go ahead and call me a prude, whatever.) And usually in something like this (which it looks like alcohol was involved) they usually take other people with them. Like the idiot that drove their SVU OVER one of my students car and killed their friend sitting in the middle seat. This sh!t is not cool. And people who do this "cool" sh!t usually die young and take others with them.

I'm not going to sit here and trash him and say he deserves it, because I don't think anyone deserves it. But I'd be willing to put money if he were alive, he's be trashing this person if it were someone else. That's what he did. Heck, he'd probably enjoy most of the comments on here.

Jesus, people...google it. He posted a picture of himself and two other guys getting smashed earlier that night. Dunn was a notorious drinker, and a notoriously bad driver on top of that, April Margera said on one CKY DVD that Dunn had wrecked like 8 cars up to that point, they even had pictures of them, and that was when he was like mid 20's.

So yeah, while I don't know for certain that he was legally drunk at the time, I think any judge and jury in the world would think that was a reasonable assumption given the evidence.

I live in Oklahoma and a bill was just passed that puts heavier restrictions on DUIs. On the first offense, its required to have a breathalyzer/interlock for two years. Second offense, 5 years, third offense, 8 years. I have a friend that got a DUI and your licence is suspended during the time you have the interlock. Personally, I favor this new law.

I would recommend typing out your "thoughts" in Word, let Microsoft do the work for checking your spelling and grammar and once all the little colored squiggly lines are gone, copy and paste Microsoft's multiple corrections so you can appear able to form a coherent thought. If you need help on how to copy and paste you might be able to google that.

You take other peoples views on God, and use that to base your thoughts on it. It is just another easy way out. You can think about God for 10,000 years, and not fully understand it.... sooo much easier to just say 'Nope, No God! I'm smart Hahahaha' *rolls eyes*
