Saturday was supposed to be Hugh Hefner’s third walk down the aisle, but instead the Playboy founder will have to seek solace in a movie night.
“The breakup is a heart breaker, but better now than after the marriage,” Hefner tweeted Tuesday, following the announcement that his former fiancée Crystal Harris had a “change of heart.” “Since we're not getting married on Saturday, I've scheduled a movie: 'Runaway Bride.' Seems appropriate.”
As former “Girls Next Door” star Bridget Marquardt wrote on Twitter, “He seems to be handling this well. He even had a sense of humor about it!”
She stopped by yesterday to check up on him and “give him a hug,” she said, which the 85-year-old appreciated, calling her sign of support “Very dear.” Another one of his exes, Kim Conrad, also came by with her mother to “lend their emotional support…I appreciate it,” Hefner wrote.
Marquardt's “Girls Next Door” co-star Kendra Wilkinson – who is now married with a child and her own E! reality show – also has plans to try and lift his spirits, saying that she was coming by with "some jack n coke... oh n a pipe." Holly Madison added to the sentiment saying she wished she could be there to support Hef as well.
In the meantime, Hefner is clearing up misconceptions about what happened. Although there were reports that a nasty argument led to the break-up, Hefner clarified via Twitter that those rumors aren’t true. “There were no arguments,” he said.
For her part, Harris simply said in a statement Tuesday, “After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef. I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time."
The timely arrival of her single “Club Queen” earlier this week hasn’t escaped notice. Hefner himself wrote, “Crystal’s ‘Club Queen’ became available on iTunes today. Hope it’s a hit,” and also retweeted another Twitter user who noted, “Omg @CrystalHarris left @hughhefner the day her single came out on iTunes. Coincidence? I think not.”
