Let me just say I have never missed an episode of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" since it began airing in 2006. And as the “Orange County” Housewives have come and gone over the years, the meanness, cattiness and drama (thankfully) have not.
The first part of season 6’s reunion special last night was no different. It had the usual suspects: sparkling mini dresses, long blonde hair extensions, shocking accusations, major life changes and someone walking off the set! That's exactly why I love these reunion shows.
The “RHOOC” reunion was one hour of targeted attacks. In one corner were newfound friends Peggy Tanous, Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Barney. In the other were “Housewives” Gretchen Rossi and Alexis Bellino.
Let's start with the daggers thrown at Alexis and Gretchen. Tamra accused Gretchen of being jealous of her young boyfriend and even brought up a picture Gretchen took years ago with a sex toy. Yes, she went there.
Gretchen tried her best to laugh it off but I'm sure she was surprised and angry on the inside. Tamra seemed to have saved 80 percent of her nastiness for Gretchen, bringing up a lawsuit that she's allegedly battling and even suggesting that her boyfriend Slade doesn't have money because he is lazy, doesn't work and doesn't pay child support.
Tamra went on to imply that the only reason Gretchen wasn't married to Slade is because he was broke and that she is a gold digger.
But perhaps the most devastating blows were felt by Alexis (or "Jesus Barbie," as she’s called by the other cast members). Host Andy Cohen asked her the status of her house and whether or not she, her husband and three kids are being foreclosed on.
Alexis admitted the market caused them to lose value in their home and as a result they were moving out and buying another house with cash. That sparked Tamra to snap back that she was lying and simply moved her money around to get out of paying for a house they couldn't afford. Alexis handled that calmly by saying: "Oh my God do you want me to show you my bank statements?"
But the worst happened after Alexis questioned Tamra’s parenting skills. Tamra responded that Alexis dropped her kids into a pool while they were strapped in their strollers.
She was referring to an incident where Alexis’s kids were strapped into their strollers and left unattended momentarily near a pool. Questioning her job as a parent is one of the meanest things done on this season for sure, but there are some who think Alexis deserved it, especially after making some outrageous comments. Remember, she’s made remarks like "The problem with liberal America is that women think they can do anything in this day and age including running for president" and "I feel safer with a man running our country."
Her religious perspective and her subservient behavior towards her husband put Alexis at odds all season long with just about everyone, and the reunion didn't change things.
After watching Gretchen and Alexis get kicked around (mind you, not one fake eyelash was out of place while that was all happening) it was time for the saddest moment of the show.
This is when Vicki’s estranged husband Donn Gunvalson talked about being served with divorce papers. Donn wasn't there but he allowed a videotape to be played of him from an earlier interview. He said that the way he was treated wasn't with "class or dignity," referring to how he was served with divorce papers.
Then came the tears: Vicki broke down about how she had treated Donn and why she worked more at her job than she worked on her marriage. This hour was packed with unforgettable moments, and it’s only the beginning!
Next week is part two of "The Real Housewives of Orange County: Reunion" and already it promises to be bigger and better with one of the cast member's boyfriends coming on the set and causing another housewife to leave. After these reunion shows, it will be hard to envision these women ever breaking bread again in the O.C.!
