Gwen Stefani doubtful solo career has a futureThink back to the last time you heard a new track from Gwen Stefani. Been a while, hasn’t it? Her last solo album, “The Sweet Escape,” came out five years ago, and it seems she's all but said "Hollaback" to being a lone musician. The No Doubt frontwoman sat down with Entertainment Weekly for this week's issue along with guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal and drummer Adrian Young, and explained that her foray into being a solo artist wasn't meant to be an ongoing thing. “That was a moment in time,” she said. “It went on a little longer than we all thought it would because it was inspired and you have to go with wherever you’re at in that time in your life….everything works out how it should.” Are you going to miss a solo Stefani? |

I think she's an incredible vocalist. I just look at the duet she did with Setzer ("You're the Boss"), no one else could have done that with that perfect neo-classic panache. I just want to hear her doing inspired music, don't care about the package it's delivered in.
Awe Bananas!
What solo career? Isn't she the chick wearing too much makeup in those commercials?
Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt is a classic album and I'd like to see what they come up with now that they are working together again. I liked Gwen's hip hop/ pop stuff, it is quality music but just not my style. Whoever said that Gwen is a performer and not a musician is silly.
I absolutely loved her solo cds. I was hoping there would be another one, which who knows as she said "It was a moment in time" maybe she'll have another! Until then though I'll definetely enjoy No Doubts music!
Nothing to miss.
Like Gwen. But she needs the loot. She must spend a fortune keeping that hair platinum blond. I mean the cost of stripping it, etc.
I don't know what a Hollarback girl is... all I know is I want her dead.
A-dam shame. Boyfriend dump you last night?
Haha!! Brian
Watch the Rock Steady Live DVD from Long Beach, CA. No Doubt has a great rock album within them and it needs to be made soon.
No Doubt did some reunion shows last year with Paramore. Hard edged, I enjoyed them very much. Some amateur video on You Tube is you care for a taste.
I am soooo looking forward to more No Doubt albums! Gwen rocks solo, sure, but No Doubt is the stuff!
more concerned with BUSH returning to centre stage. if her working with NO DOUBT frees up some more time for his "new" band. all for it!!
Never could take this woman's singing, nor her clothes line. And I grew up around her music/era. Oh well.... sure beats Gaggy and many others out there today.
don't care.....
No Doubt is ska. They collaborate well together. They create incredible music. Gwen solo was nothing but a bunch of generic pop-tunes pumped out by producers that followed formulas. She became just another Mariah/Christina/Britney girl. Hopefully this album will be as good as the old stuff, and the band won't go pop and follow Gwen's lead. She needs them to put an edge back on her and her wonderful voice.
I was a fan of No Doubt first so when she went solo eons ago I wasn't sure how she'd go. She didn't do too bad, I liked how she didn't try to be like anyone. I hear people say Lady Gaga is the "new Madonna" and even a bit with Katy Perry, with GS though, she's a trend-setter. She's cool whether in a band or solo.
The other day I heard "Just A Girl" & I remembered I much I loved Her vocal style on that CD! I loved "Hollaback" cuz it's a tuff lil' ditty, but I prefer her singing style with the band! Plus No Doubt no doubt tears it up on stage!!
Seems to me that Gwen's had her hands full being a good mother and put her career aside for a time.
Gwen is beautiful no matter what she does. And shes also a very talented singer. But why does CNN always pick the most unflattering photos?
Doesn't matter, who shes with. That girl has talent!! The music business is filled with "ambition exceeds talent" turds that need flushed, shes a rareity.
Will be very happy to see No Doubt back in the studio. I always thought that Gwen's solo career was a mistake; the quality of her work just went right into the toilet – "kiss my @SS" indeed!
As long as I can see the beautiful Gwen out there then whatever she does is fine.
The amount of makeup on her face is truly frightening.
Gwen who?
she seems to rock it out
No Doubt had always been better than her solo stuff.
At least up until Tragic Kingdom.
I LOVED Gwen's solo albums, but it's exciting that No Doubt is in the studio working on a new album to be released this year;the band has been updating the fans via their twitter page @nodoubt. And to the person who said Gwen's solo career wasn't much of a career-excuse me,but both of her solo albums went platinum and she was the first artist to have a song reach 1 million downloads.
I loved 90's No Doubt, but they started getting pretty bad towards the end and her solo music was awful. Not interested in either anymore.
Anyone who has read any music related magazine (Except Rolling Stone, which has joined the ranks of Star and The National Enquirer...) knew this long ago. Way to stay on the cutting edge of music news CNN!
Wow that is really not a good picture of her. Must have 20 layers of makeup on to hide the blemishes.
Wait....what....huh?
Who's Gwen Stefani?
Who is your daddy, and what does he do?
I'm a big fan but she lookes weathered in that pic : (
YEAH !
No Doubt has not released a decent song in so long, and her solo "career" wasn't much of a career...
I'm glad she's done with that, but I really think she just needs to stick to making low budget pr0n movies....
My favorite song is Saw Red with her and Brad from Sublime
I remember Brad. He is the gayone alway flaunting his gayness and wearing chaps with nothing underneath.
I LOVE that song. -
Im going back to trolling about lkneegrows. After reading about the human centipede movie no more poop jokes from me. GROSS !
It's nice when people understand the cycle of their careers and popularity. She's a great artist and I love No Doubt. She's going out as a great solo artist and not some has been that is trying to be relevant in the ever changing world of music. She can perform with No Doubt and still incorporate her hits. Smart lady!
Horrible picture accompanying the story. I'm twenty years older and I have fewer lines. And the puffiness in her face, estrogen therapy or did she just get out of bed? As to her "solo" career, she actuallly made some music in No Doubt that will stand the test of time, but that was an eon before she even stepped out for the solo spot. Hard to see her recapturing that magic without a real commitment to being a musician and not just a star.
You're just mad because you're dating your 7 cats.
Liked her fine as a solo act, but LOVE NO DOUBT. I can't wait for a new album!
Love Love Love both Gwen & No Doubt, She is an amazing singer and they are an Amazing Band! As long as they all keep making music there will be a happy audiance!
I like her both as a solo act and in the band, but I do like No Doubt better. Some things just work better.
I liked her better when she was with No Doubt as opposed to the solo stuff.
Agreed. I'd take Spiderwebs over Hollaback Girl anyday.
Not a fan, but she's certainly a step up from the Gagas and the Katy Perrys of today.
As I understand it Gwen wants to get into the pickled pig balls business.
Lady Gaga's music might not be worth a damn, but she *is* a musician, whereas Gwen Stefani is a performer. You either understand the difference or you don't.
Gwen is Hot.
Gwen has been very very bad and deserves a good paddling.
Yes!! I grew up with her music
And I grew up on No Doubt, so I can't wait to see them back.
Besides, Gwen is part of No Doubt and the front woman, so its not like she goes away.
Yes. But I love No Doubt more.
What a sad and extremely uninformed comment.
Uh Nancy.... Get your head out.................
