Writers: 'Candy Land' movie will be like 'LOTR'

The live-action adaptation of “Battleship” is only "loosely" based on the Hasbro game, but the writers of “Candy Land” are really trying to think outside of the box.

Although the board game is easy enough for kids who can't read, the writers are aiming to create something more action-packed.

“We envision it as ‘Lord of the Rings,’ but set in the world of candy,” co-writer Jonathan Aibel, who’s penning the script along with fellow “Kung Fu Panda 2” scribe Glenn Berger, told Entertainment Weekly.

“We don’t see it as a movie based on a board game," Berger said. Although the movie will have "characters from that world," it "takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on,” Berger added. “We are going for real comedy, real action and real emotions at stake.”

Sounds like that rainbow-hued walk to the Candy Castle just got a lot more intense. What do you think of "Candy Land" as a sweeter "Lord of the Rings"?

I actually think this could be a cute movie if done right and they should cast Caleb Cohen in the part of the little boy seen on the board game. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3735601/

Why not? It was a favorite game as a child, and I'll be able to watch it with my child when he/she is born. I wonder if it's kid friendly.

  9. Hmmm

Couple of dudes write Candyland movie, there was a Space Mountain movie, Clue movie, Operation movie (saw), Monopoly movie (Atlas Shrugged), Solitaire movie (Cast Away), Minesweeper movie (The Hurt Locker), D&D movie (D&D), Trivial Pursuit movie (Quiz Show), Chess movies (Searching for Bobby Fischer etc), there's a Go Fish movie (Just google "Go Fish Movie"), man is there any concept that *DOESN'T* have a movie based on it yet?

Ooh, here's one that's never been done. How about a Disney Musical about Child Soldiers in another continent?

What? They did that? Eddie Murphy? Mulan? Oh...

Lol.. jumprope movie. The jumprope comes alive and start strangling the person that's jumping the rope. Maybe all the botox that they keep pumping into their faces are going to their brains so that why they can't be creative anymore. They should consider hiring us, I bet we can come up with better ideas for movies.

God is this what Hollywood has come to? Kids games for 3 to 5 yr olds turned into a movie? Who watches this cr*p? Remakes/sequels/3D movies are bad enough all on their own. But this? Hollywood has taken stupidity to a whole new level.

With those two cuties in the photo "CandyLand" is sure to feature much gayness. Perhaps "DandyLand" might be a better movie.
