Actor Alex Pettyfer is prepared to bare all for his upcoming role as a stripper in "Magic Mike."
"I will do whatever needs to be done," Pettyfer told Vulture when asked if he'd go full-frontal in the film. The Brit added, "I am definitely going to have to take some dance classes. I don't think male strippers use poles. The male stripper has no props apart from themselves."
As Marquee previously reported, "Magic Mike" tells the story of a veteran dancer (Channing Tatum) who teaches a newcomer (Pettyfer) how to hustle both on and off the stage. The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Ocean's Eleven," "Traffic"), is based on Tatum's real-life experience as a 19-year-old exotic dancer at a Tampa club, and Pettyfer feels fortunate to be part of the project.
"I literally just got a phone call out of the blue. Steven called me and he goes, 'Hey, it's Steven Soderbergh,' and I was like 'Oh, OK,'" he said. "I didn't really believe it at the time. He goes, 'I've got some stuff I'm going to e-mail you and if you respond, then let me know.' I read it and it was amazing… I called him back and said, 'What do I need to do to be a part of this?' and he said, 'Just say yes.' I'm a very lucky man."
The humbled actor has developed quite a bad-boy reputation in recent months, thanks to his scandalous interview with VMAN magazine. Pettyfer has since told E! Online, "I don't think I was so much misquoted but misunderstood."
Contrary to what he said in the article, Pettyfer doesn't hate Hollywood. In fact, "I love L.A.," he told E!. And he does not have a "Thank you" tattoo above his crotch, as was reported by the magazine. "It says my name, 'Alex,'" Pettyfer clarified. "It's boring."
