Oprah's inspiration stretches around the world

Oprah's inspiration stretches around the world

When CNN iReport posted the "Oprah and Me" assignment earlier this month, little did we know that we would receive stories from around the world telling us how "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which ends on Wednesday, has inspired viewers.

Lavern Depeine said that thanks to Winfrey's charitable giving, she was inspired in 2008 to create a charitable group of her own in Middlesex County, New Jersey.

The advice from Lena Gidwani's father was echoed in what she saw on the "Oprah" show, advice that eventually propelled her to a news anchor job in Ghangzhou, China.

Russell Brand deported from Japan

Russell Brand deported from Japan

There's a good reason Russell Brand wasn't cheering on wife Katy Perry as she performed in Japan over the weekend—he was too busy getting kicked out of the country.

"So… my husband just got deported from Japan," the singer, who is currently touring Asia, wrote on Twitter on May 22. "I am so sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed."

Though Perry added, "It was for priors from over 10 years ago!" she didn't specify what Brand's offenses were, according to Billboard.

'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Is it time to forgive Schwarzenegger?

As the drama surrounding the separation of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver continues, there’s more big news out today from their children. If you want insight into what’s going on inside their family, look no further than Twitter.

The oldest Schwarzenegger child, 21-year-old Katherine, re-tweeted a quote saying, “Holding grudges is bad for your health. Forgive and let go. It doesn’t mean keep them around either.” Now a lot of people might agree with Katherine that it’s time to move on, and I think forgiveness is very important in life, but it’s too soon to brush this aside. It was only two weeks ago that Arnold and Maria publicly announced their separation!

What do you think? Tell me below.

A night of explosive developments on 'The Killing'

Another one bites the dust, y’all! In one of the most suspenseful episodes of the season thus far, an exciting series of events led us to cross another suspect off our list of potential killers.

At first it looked like the plan to take Bennet into custody was a go – Linden even went so far as to assure Mitch that an arrest was imminent – but a judge refused to sign the warrant and the arrest was called off.

Confident in his innocence but the damage to his reputation done, Bennet returned to Fort Washington against the wishes of Principal Meyers and his students, who staged an impromptu walkout upon his arrival to class.

Zach Galifianakis to January Jones: 'Get over yourself'

Zach Galifianakis to January Jones: 'Get over yourself'

"Mad Men" star January Jones has at least one fellow actor who isn't mad about her. Comic Zach Galifianakis claims he once told the blonde beauty—who has boasted that she was hated in high school because she is pretty—to get over herself.

In a new Q&A with ShortList magazine, Galifianakis is told that Jones refers to him as one of the most naturally funny men she has ever met.

"That's really funny because, if I remember correctly, she and I were very rude to each other. It was crazy," "The Hangover Part II" star replies. "I was at a party — I'd never met her — and she was like, 'Come sit down.' So I sit at her table and talk for 10 minutes, and she goes, 'I think it's time for you to leave now.'"

Ricky Gervais: I didn't dis 'The Office' finale

Controversial comedian Ricky Gervais has gotten himself into hot water again, this time over comments he made about the cameo-filled season finale of "The Office."

In a recent entry on his blog, Gervais—who executive produces the NBC series and wrote and starred in the U.K. edition—gave his take on the final episode, in which he, Jim Carrey, James Spader and even billionaire Warren Buffett all compete for the regional manager job vacated by Michael Scott (Steve Carell).

"Watching The Office finale may remind some of the Chris Martin episode of Extras," Gervais said. "If you’re going to jump a shark, jump a big one. I assume most people know I didn't do the U.S. remake for the art. I did my version for the art."

Alex Pettyfer: I'd go full-frontal for stripper movie

Alex Pettyfer: I'd go full-frontal for stripper movie

Actor Alex Pettyfer is prepared to bare all for his upcoming role as a stripper in "Magic Mike."

"I will do whatever needs to be done," Pettyfer told Vulture when asked if he'd go full-frontal in the film. The Brit added, "I am definitely going to have to take some dance classes. I don't think male strippers use poles. The male stripper has no props apart from themselves."

As Marquee previously reported, "Magic Mike" tells the story of a veteran dancer (Channing Tatum) who teaches a newcomer (Pettyfer) how to hustle both on and off the stage. The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Ocean's Eleven," "Traffic"), is based on Tatum's real-life experience as a 19-year-old exotic dancer at a Tampa club, and Pettyfer feels fortunate to be part of the project.

Director Lars von Trier: I am not Mel Gibson

After being labeled a "persona non grata" at the Cannes Film Festival, director Lars von Trier is still attempting to explain the Nazi joke he made during a press event last week.

"What I said was completely stupid but I am absolutely no Mel Gibson. I am absolutely not Mel Gibson," von Trier tells the Hollywood Reporter of his recent remarks that he both understood and sympathizes with Hitler.

"When I said what I did about Hitler, what I meant was I could imagine what it was like for Hitler in the bunker, making plans," he explains. "Not that I would do what Hitler did."

David Beckham to create, model line of undies

David Beckham knows a thing or two about modeling underwear, and presumably, he knows plenty about simply wearing them, so why not put those skills together to create his own undergarments?

The soccer star is joining wife Victoria’s fashion pursuits and is working on a men’s bodywear line, according to Women’s Wear Daily. He will, of course, also model said line of underwear.

“I’ve had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now,” Beckham told WWD, adding that part of the inspiration was his work with Armani.
