Who is heading to the finale on 'American Idol?'

SPOILER ALERT – Tonight's "Idol" blog will reveal who is leaving the competition, so please don't read if you don't want to know.

8:55 p.m. – Haley seems pretty cool about it. She says this is only just the beginning.

Way to stay positive girl. She goes out singing "Benny and Jets" and changes the lyrics to mention Randy and J-Lo. Cute. The ousted contestants are jamming to her. She gets a big kiss from her daddy and a huge hand from her rumored boyfriend, Casey Abrams.

8:54 p.m. –  Haley is headed home, and I think she knew. You could see it on her face.

8:53 p.m. – Our final contestant in the finale is ...

Lauren!!!!

8:52 p.m. – And the first person safe is ...

Scotty!!!

He's so sweet, hugging the girls and saying "Y'all did good."

8:49 p.m. –  Time for some results.

SIKE! After the break.

8:44 p.m. –  Lauren and her mama look so much alike.

They are off to her hometown visit, and I loved the baby girl holding the sign that said "I Love Lauren." She's back at her high school, and she's so happy.

There's a somber moment when she sees the devastation in her hometown from the recent tornado. I lose it when she meets an 11-year old named Tyler, who saved his family from the wreckage. Lauren is so moved by him and says "I'm proud to be from Georgia, just like you." You know she just made that kid's year.

She sings "Build It Anyway" for them, and there's not a dry eye.

8:36 p.m. – We go home with Scotty, and I am crying right along with him. Folks at the grocery store are so happy to see him!

Seems like all of North Carolina turned out. Lots of little girls crying for and with Scotty. Loved it when Josh Turner showed up to surprise him!

Then it's time for some booty shaking with Nicole Scherzinger and 50 Cent. Hot!

8:28 p.m. – So this Italian group, Il Volo, performs "O Sole Mio," and they have beautiful voices and interesting hair.

I'll just leave it at that.

8:27 p.m. – Give a little kid a microphone and stand them up in a chair and they are sure to upstage Seacrest every time.

8:22 p.m. – Cute bit where Haley's big ol' body guard Aaron shows up on the "Idol" stage "crying."

8:20 p.m. – Haley heads back to her hometown of Chicago, and she manages to walk right past the "Idol" limo.

It's raining, but the crowds are still there going nuts. She even thanks one girl for freaking out.

She's got a MASSIVE "Idol" bodyguard with her. There's some sweet moments when she reunites with her friends and family. Then she's off to Wheeling High School where she sheds some more tears. More than 30,000 fill an arena to welcome her and she sings "Sweet Home Chicago" with her dad on guitar.

Back home after three months, and you can feel how touched she is because of all of the love.

8:08 p.m. – The crowd is going nuts tonight.

Ryan says more than 95 million votes came in last night, which is the biggest tally of a nonfinale show ever.

Hey JJ Abrams.

The Top 4 headed off to his Bad Robot Production company, and they check out scenes from his film "Super 8." That joint looks crazy scary and the final four contestants are almost jumping out of their seats.

They all receive  Super 8 cameras to film their hometown visits. Elle Fanning from the film is in the audience, and she's kind of goofy.

The former contestants from this season are looking at her like she's nuts. Good times.

8:02 p.m. – Did Jimmy Iovine say there were 95 million votes last night? Seriously?

Jimmy says he believes there will be a guy in the finale. We'll see Mr. Iovine.

8:00 p.m. – We are less than an hour away from discovering who is headed to the finale. I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it.

I'm not even sure where that came from, but let's rock on!

It is sickening to hear the terrible tone of some of the naysayers that have written in about Scotty and Lauren, two young people with a great deal of promise for the future. Anyone in the music business knows that when most young entertainers are inspired by someone that they want to model after and therefore tend to sound like and to sing some of the same tunes. If some of these negative people knew anything about the above they would understand the similar sounds to other star entertainers. Even the stars in country like George Jones said when he started he copy Hank Williams Sr., and Josh Turner said he modeled his songs and sounds after Randy Travis. Everyone going into the music business models their early efforts after some model. That being said, let the young people like Lauren and Scotty have a fair chance at their pursuit of a chance at stardom in their chosen field of entertainment in this free country. Lets leave the terrible attacks on their wonderful young careers. The terrible attacks on these young entertainers remind me of the terrible racism, and secular violence these same people have most likely been so much against in the past. Wake-up hate is hate, they is no excuse for it.

No finale for me.....Scotty looks like howdy doody...Lauren...a big yawn! what is wrong with America anyway...and the bias on the judges part was so bold and so obvious....Alanis Morrisette?????? Are you kidding me???? I have thought all along that this show was fixed...now I know for sure! Could Lauren or Scotty have done that song??? You tell me... There is no way in H*** that Scotty and Lauren should be the top 2 finalists with all of the talent there was this year! Just goes to show you that people just have no taste when it comes to music! Why dont we just call this show "Redneck Idol" or "Country Idol" ....American Idol should be about all genres of music....not just one...a well rounded and talented contestent should be able to pull from any genre of music and sing it well. Scotty can do one type of music and one only...and he sounds the same no matter what he sings...Lauren is just plain one dimensional and boring....WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE!!!!! I am just so disgusted and aggravated with obvious bias and fix.

the problem with the winners–and most of the teenagers on Idol–is that they are boring. They haven't lived life much and their song choices were generally safe and boring so I can't see much in their futures. It is a shame all the contestants with the more adventurous choices such as James, Casey, Lauren and Pia fell by the wayside. Yeah, I'll probably watch finale but without much enthusiasm

So much negative stuff out here...I'm surprised you are all still watching! I knew from the hometown visits who was going to be "in" but come on, it's a contest. I think Hailey was the most improved of the last 13-but she didn't even get in that by America's vote, the judges put her in! Hailey has a lot of talent and I'm sure she will have a career in music but when you are trying to get votes nice and humble are going to win out if when everyone has talent. I've loved IDOL this year and 95 million votes says I'm not the only one! I'm generally a country fan but I loved David Cook–and Adam Lambert certainly is on the "weird" side but full of talent even though he didn't win–but I'm looking forward to a night of country!

can't help feeling last night's judge & producer picks were yet another sabbotage job on Haley and nail in coffin. Over the years, a song like Stevie Nick's Rhiannon (and even Alanis' You oughta Know)have been considered along with songs of Celine & Whitney taboo material that is better left alone as too highly identified with the original artist & style. I seem to recall that being the comment when in a previous year someone actually chose Rhiannon – not judge/producer – possible Brooke White?or last year?- and got slammed. Not only did Haley manage to NOT be a clone on Rhiannon, she made a pretty solid stab at Alanis that judges knew wasn't a fair song on a VOTING night-no matter who was singing. A few weeks ago, they had her sing a song that nobody had even heard of -unless you've seen Gaga live – for god sakes! Fair? Not in the least. But Haley did that well too. Just simply unfair for vote purposes. Hats off to you Haley for the most inspired song selection for yourself – and several, among the few "moments" this season (James & Casey others + jazz duet w/Casey)- valiant effort against all odds!!!! ie.team AI staff Continued success! (tip 4 judges – betters songs for Haley in material by Joan Osborne, Joss Stone,Sheryl Crow,Lucinda Williams, Florence/Machine,Peggy Lee.Pink,Norah Jones,Macy Gray,Phoebe Snow,Carly Simon,Joni M. etc)
Since they're set on the "marketing" aspect instead....here's a few truths of past track records in Country for teens. #1 Guess Taylor Swift will need to sharpen her pen writing for any/all teen girls. #2 Not sure that LeAnn Rimes "ever" duplicated her early success on charts again w/Blue (done very well on AI by – who? Haley!) – Miley's had to deal w/backlash for growing up & rites of passage – Tanya Tucker's 1st & 2nd runs at hits were 10/15 years apart (also rebranded as tramp for growing up) – several by the wayside never to be heard again. #3 Male teen Country solo has had similiar if not worse history – last name I can even think of was Blaine Larson w/ 5 somewhat hits(I had to look up & only knew 'cause I worked in a record store & got the autograph no one wants), 2 cds before losing deal and last charting at #42 & maybe a 3rd release. Bobby Bare Jr. as a child dueting w/his father is still probably most successful and he's a bonafide indie rocker/alt. country now. Chris Thile was an instrumentalist in a band – so doesn't count. #4 teen groups in country have also been short lived careers even when good. Good luck with that nonsense. See, Taylor Swift doesn't sell because she's just a teen singer amongst pop teen singers – she's an artist/writer & ok singer, video phenom etc – but you're evidently not looking for one of those AI voters. Lauren should win and will have more success long term than Scotty – but will depend highly on the material rather than passing fad. I think I see a possible resurgence of regular duet partners though – that is, if they don't saddle them with a cute Donnie/Marie cover or likewise as solo artists or flame 'em out with over exposed marketing gimmicks.

A shame we get no more next week. :(

The most wild interesting memorable crazy performer is going home. So many amazing songs this season. Now we will just have to wait more than a single week to hear more, that's life.
Haley held her head up, a good soul who provided us with a lot of memorable moments, congrats!

  11. Sad

    Sad day for Idol.

We now have for the first time a finale where neither of the top two have had a performance of the night for at least three weeks running while someone who has had a top performance of the night and for ALL three weeks running, at least, is not in the finale! Has someone ever had the best of the night for at least three weeks straight going into top two and not made it before?

But they paint a genuinely nice girl as a b and some fall for it and the judges pretend the Chosen Ones have never had a bad song for weeks and make Haley seem inconsistent (never mind oh merely winning the night for three or more weeks because naw that's not being consistent) since they'd go after her second best each night as if it were diseased (although often being very far from the worst of the night and sometimes close to the top) and the demographic is stacked to begin with.

Plus with the finale we sadly now know the outcome for sure already (unless they really do finagle the votes like the craziest theories claim). Haley at least would have been the talented does anything vs the country crooner now it is country vs. country and Scotty has just dominated the votes beyond belief so how can he not win (unless his fans suddenly think it's a lock and forget to vote en mass).

But best of luck to the two next week!

    • yeah

Yes ironic how a certain crowd kills poor Haley for her reactions, despite crying during elims for others, and they get on her for daring to break a smile for a second at a sweet moment during and exit or to keep someone's spirits up or even to feel relieved for one second to have made it and then tonight everyone on stage was all smiles, aside from Steven Tyler, and excited about final two, and not that anyone should make a big deal about that, but if Haley did that wow they make up all sort of stories about how this proves she is such and such. Oh and then on some forums some are somehow still getting on Haley even tonight for 'acting wrong' when finding she was eliminated. What?!

Randy didn't even bother to comfort her he just focused on the winners haha and it was really just Steven Tyler (sadly the only judge I have respect left for after this season) although J.Lo got up there belatedly.

Not saying that you should necessarily read anything in to what any of them did but just how any of that would be spun against Haley by some.

This is going to be a boring finale. Haley rocked Benny and the Jets tonight!!! Lisa I usually agree with you (reference to previous post) however to think that Haley deserves to go home because she didn't sing well on the low notes on the Alanis song ,which the judges picked, is just ridiculous. She has had at least three "moments" this season while Lauren has had one which was her Aerosmith audition. Lauren hasn't been that good since. I really hope she brings it next week or we are in for a snooze fest. Let's face it...Scotty has skated by because of his looks.

Unfortunately, it was difficulty for Haily, the bottom line is respect, for yourself first, N=Yours is not to criticize. the new phrase is to own up, and accept. Keep moving on in your fantastic character, better has come from it..Advice, Listen, don't roll your eyes, take it for what it may be. You are very unique keep it as your own, just consider respect for others. That was your minor downfall. If you keep that in perspective, you will be huge! someone who knows! love you, ..

I give her credit for improving as much as she did over the season and I can see her selling millions of records and winning Grammys. But I can also see Scotty selling millions and winning Grammys. Lauren might if she is steered in the right direction. But all could have won this season, and all could have gone home last week instead of James. All are talented, but some are more palatable. They should rename this Redneck Idol. This was such BS. They gave the two Hee Haw contestants easy songs to sing and Haley the hardest. You saw after Haley's 1st performance yesterday after Randy and Steven stood up Jennifer would not. I will bet money after 1 album you will never hear of pudgy Lauren again much like Taylor Hicks. Scotty will do about the same. Not many young male solo country performers out there and there is reason for that. I see Haley putting out many albums in the future and many singles on Billboard. I will not watch at all next week. I am sure I will not be alone. After James gone and now Haley, Idol has no contestant for fans of rock. I will bet lowest votes for a finale ever next week.

Way to go redneck, hick, america. Scream it, scream your ignorance from the rooftops. 10 bucks says ratings go down next week cuz we all know McCreepy is gonna win it. 10 bucks says Haley and James outsell the top two.

AS I SAID FROM THE BEGINNING, SHE DIDN'T STAND A CHANCE WITH THE FRICKING KIDDIE BOPPERS! KMMFA. Absolutely hog wash LOL. Really, American Idols? Scotty, Lauren?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SUCK MY AZZZZZ!

Just a note – the song is actually just called 'Anyway' not 'Build it Anyway'. Love Lauren's version of it even if I do sort of hope it's her that goes home tonight.

I'm not worried about any of these three. They'll have long careers no matter what. (Especially Haley)

Yup - of these 3, Haley was the only one with real talent.

It's a shame, but seems to be typical of Idol voters. Sheesh - what infinite idiots! (Unfortunately, not surprising.)

It's a shame that with the caliber of talent in the Top 10 this year, Scotty is sniffing the finale. What do people see in this guy? He'll be another Taylor Hicks.

Just one of the differences between Haley & Lauren that most likely effected votes is that Lauren is much more likeable.

When I watched last night, I felt Lauren might go home. She is my favorite, but I worried she was too bland. I really like Haley, too, though. She's different. No one sings that Alanis Morrisette song well...not even Alanis!
I am always wrong, though. I picked Adam Lambert–loved him.

I think Scotty may be a genuinely nice kid. It will be hard to see any of them go. Hayley looks resigned. But they are all so talented – really the whole top 10 (and more) have been unusually good. Great season AI!

Let's face it – everyone has their own taste in music – but all genres have American Idols. It has been nice to see more talent this year and I am particularly drawn to those who understand "humble". This is a tremendous opportunity for all of them!

    @Amy – Yup.

Hope Haley takes it all. She's the only quality singer left... the REAL talent, Casey, should've been there to the end but America shows year after year that it has no taste.
