Did the 'Idol' Top 4 bring it?

Did the 'Idol' Top 4 bring it?

I must admit that I really enjoyed Lady Gaga as a mentor tonight.

Sound advice and she pulled some great performances out of the contestants.

Who really did it for you tonight? Are you sick of all of the James love and the Haley criticism? Are you over Scotty and Lauren?

As Seacrest points out, week 4 is when Chris Daughtry went home a few seasons ago, so no one can ever be considered safe.

Who was your favorite?

And don't forget to join me here Thursday night as I live blog the results. Can't wait!

Oh it's so time for Haley to go home worst of the night, worse the last 3 weeks, I'm picking James to win and Scotty and Lauren to take Nashville by storm, like Carrie Underwood.

I don't like Haley at all. She growls to much and screams a lot. She also seems kinda full of her self. James screams to but it works with what he sings. Lauren is OK and Scotty is good at country. I want the final three to be James, Lauren and Scotty!

I think the judges should leave Haileyalone the first song wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as they are making it out to be. And the judges NEVER give critism unless it's too Haley. I've heard pitch problems with James before and Scotty wasn't that good last night on either songs but because they were doing songs that meant something to them it was ok for him but not for her. I don't think a person who cannot hold a note should be judging them. Jennifer Lopez cannot sing she can dance and that's it. Maybe they need to get real judges that can sing to judge them. And to Randy James is not all that you like him because he does those songs that he can relate to just like Casey James should be leaving next then Scotty and let the ladies sing it out!!!!!!!

Scotty has led EVERY single week...the bottom two thing was not real. He has the heartstrings of all the tweeners in America. They are the ones who vote. Not always about talent as much as a popularity contest.

Amazed at how the judges rip on haley for not "choosing a hit" song to sing. Yet Scotty never chooses a "hit" and they gush over the same boring approach he does. We get it; you're country. I got that two months ago and haven't seen anything remotely exciting or challenging from him. Just a good ol' boy, kid next door, all-American apple pie look. Cute but boring. James; really? The ultimate cheese song from Journey. Take away all the lights, fire and special effects and you're left with not so much. Still an Adam Lambert wannabe. At this point Lauren shows the most versatility of any of them. If it's a singing contest, she has it. Even Haley is willing to take chances and push the envelope but all she gets is negativity.

In James defense, Graphicspro. He has tourettes syndrome, which causes tics. His tics are facial. Tics can make the body do "strange" things, which is uncontrollable. Some even have vocal outbursts, such as swearing, again, uncontrollable. The judges should never criticize him or anyone for that! Anxiety, stress, or even being excited about something makes the tics worse. It takes a lot of courage to get on stage & do what he does. Please give the guy a break about his squinting & blinking, he has to deal with it for the rest of his life. Not to mention, he probably has a lot of headaches & sore eyes from his facial tics. People can be so mean when they don't understand something. 😦

The sad thing about the entire season is that they passed up some real talent during Hollywood week only to be left with an Adam Lambert wannabee, a Joss Stone wannabee, a Carrie Underwood wannabee and a Trace Adkins wannabee. They're not bad singers but there's nothing special about them. It's been a ho-hum season and the judges are like robots with the same mundane comments week after week. Steven – that was so beautiful. J-Lo – perfect, I just love you. Randy – yo dawg, this one's in it to win it. I really miss Paula and Simon.

I could care less about Paula, but Simon were still around, half the people who made it to Hollywood wouldn't have. And I can promise you that Scotty wouldn't be anywhere near the Top 4. I'm glad he's coming back with X Factor. Now I don't have to sit through another season of Idol.

Has anyone else noticed how much Scotty looks like Alfred E Newman (Mad magazine)? I don't dig country music so he doesn't get my support. Lauren is good but too unsure. Haley is awful....sorry. James is solid and will probably get my support by default.

Bad judges, decent talent....tough year for AI.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I know they don't criticize James, but I was really surprised when the judges were not giving James a standing ovatation after his second song. It was amazing! Think Haley is really good but I just don't like her. If you watch you see all the contestants hugging each other or putting their arms around each other for support, but not Haley. She is even that way with Ryan Seacrest. It's like she doesn't want to be touched, or she is too good for everyone. I am rooting for James.

James has a serious squinting/blinking issue; it is very disturbing. Have any of the judges commented on that problem? Also, I'm sick of the screeching and faux showmanship with stupid flames in the background; just lame. Scotty's first song was great, but the 2nd was lame. Haley was good too. The other girl /yawn.
I think the judges are not doing their job of judging; they are too nice and like today's parents, want to be best buddies with their kids instead of giving them real parenting advice. Tyler and J-Lo don't want to come across as mean because they don't want to alienate their fans. Idol needs new judges next year who will give the participants constructive criticism and who won't be afraid to be confrontational like Simon was.

Yes, we konw Adam Lambert came in second at the end of the season and someone asks where has he been.. Haven't you been to his concerts? I have, and the energy is totally entertaining, the singing is awesome and he's a total package. Love, love, love him. As far as James goes, everyone gives him a hard time because he sings like and sounds like Adam, but I think it's just a coincidence. He has a unique voice that can sing any song, slow, fast, etc. (much like Adam) and he loves to entertain. He seems like a natural born entertainer. So knock him down for that? The other singers could become entertainers but I guess it's not as "natural" to them as it is to James. In a way, I hope the same thing happens to James as happened to Adam. He can come in second place, get scooped up by a producer and not be stuck being the property of American Idol for the next year. He can go do his thing! Speaking of which....Where is Lee DeWyse? Where is Chris Allen? Anyone hear about them, their albums, songs on the radio. I have Adam's CD and enjoy his songs on the radio! Maybe before too long I will be adding James' CD next to Adams.

There is no question whatsoever that the judges are having a love fest with James and Scotty, and last night was proof positive of that fact. James' performance of Don't Stop Believing was okay, and certianly did "set the bar" as was suggested by J-Lo. Where is Simon when you really need him!? He would have most certainly told James that the performance was self-indulgent and a bit karioki-like. Same goes for that second performance by Scotty, which was downright silly; and is it just me, or does he get the creepiest looks on his face! Ick! And then there is poor Haley. How could you criticize her song choice when the purpose of the choice was to pick a song that inspires you, not one that showcases your voice. She sang it well, not great, and she clearly felt the song while singing it. And yet all they can do is criticize her, while letting James (maybe because of his disability) get one pass after another. He peaked with Uprising, which was an amazing performance, and ever since has been off-key, pitchy, and downright self-indulgent... Time for some new judges!!! Simon, please come back!

Boy do I miss Simon right about now. He would have let Haley have it for butchering that MJ song. Next would be Scotty for that lame 2nd second act. Yawn! The judges don't tell it like it is enough. Give them praise when they do well but tell them when they are way off base. J-Lo is gives good advise but always remains way to neutral. Steven Tyler is crazy talented but not much of a coach when at times he should be. The final four all of their moments but James will win. That's just how this show works.

Haley all the WAY!! She's the complete package. I don't think people relize just how good her voice really is with no effort. There has been no one like adam lambert and when he says haleys voice in the real deal- I believe him! Lauren's voice is awesome also, but she's not ready for the spot light yet. Of course, james or scotty will win because it's a popularity contest and it's sickening how J. Lo and randy diss on haley constantly. Sorry, I think scotty's performances last night were by far the worst- boring and corny!

So I thought Haley had the worst and the best songs of the night. Her first song was blah – I agreed with the judges – and then she blew it away with her second song. Lauren was fairly solid both times. Scotty was okay but didn’t wow me. I wasn’t as impressed with James as much as the judges. His Journey song was a decent cover song – but nothing more, and I didn’t like his “Love Potion Number 9” – he tried to do way too much song with that song – it didn’t suit his style – and frankly, his style is just cover band style with lots of stage drama to distract people from his so-so singing. In a few years he’ll just be covering Aerosmith songs next to the deep fried Twinkie stand at county fairs.

The ladies won it last night.

The girls group was far and away more talented than the boys this year. I have not watched the show more than 5 minutes at a time since the clear superstar in waiting left (Pia). I love country music but despise Scotty for some reason, and James screams too much and has pitch issues. Either Lauren or Haley should win but won't. Another dud winner this year no one will remember 5 years from now like so many others. The cream will rise to the top sooner or later. Thanks for wasting the save this year judges.

Every one of the final four has their good and not so good moments; so why do they beat up on Haley? Just makes me more determined that she should win or at least be in the top two! She is amazing. Of course, the others are amazing too. I can't choose. Lauren and Scotty are not the seasoned performers that James and Haley are, but are still really great. ok so Haley wasn't being bratty its called standing up for yourself if you feel something isn't right. Granted I didnt agree with her first song selection. I disagreed with Randy and Jennifer with telling her she needed to take the last part of the song higher. Um hello if you listen to MJs Earth song he rocks it out at the end just like Haley did so lets be real. Her second song selection she rocked that I was like wowwww! Scotty granted he can sing but um if i'm not mistaken he comes out and does the same thing over and over again and his "i'm going to walk around the stage and in the audience" seems a little forced. I'm getting bored with Scotty and i know he'll make it big because he can sing no doubt but for me he's getting boring! Lauren is one of my favs but she's not singing like we all know she can. James to me will win it. I just say enough with the Haley bashing last night how Randy and JLo did her was horriffic it was uncalled for. All of a sudden they want to judge they should have called Scotty out on the corny 2nd performance he did lol ughhh

I'm really tired of the JLo and Randy beating up on Haley. Jennifer can't sing a lick, she needs autotunes to help her out. Stick to what you know best "acting". Randy, I'm just not sure why he's doing it. I know he knows talent, but he too continues to single out Haley. I thought it most interesting that the contestants were allowed to to choose songs that inspired them and the "Earth" song was Haley's and it had a lot of meaning and everyone could relate. She sang it with soul and meaning and conviction. Scotty chose a song about 9/11 and the judges dare not critize it for fear of backlash from the "American" people in general. This show is and has always been so unfair and bias. The judges except for Steven suck! I do not nor will I buy a JLo song cause she can't sing, go back to the block.

I think all four contestants did well last night, after all they are in the top four, so I think it is a matter of who has the most died in the wool fans right now. I am a die-hard James fan, and by the way still am a over the top Adam Lambert fan and not of the opinion that the two are mutuallly exclusive even though the media and others, not the two of them, have tried to create a rivalry. Anyway, back to this season, I wish the best of luck to all four, think they all deserve shots at careers in their chosen genres. We do know that you don't need to actually"win" this thing to go on to a great career, and conversely winning does not gaurentee a great career, just look at the phenomenal Adam Lambert. GO JAMES!

All four contestants are great singers. I can see folks on here have their favorites and thats ok. I mean somebody has to win right. But all four of these contestants should have big money deals waiting for them. Scotty and Lauren are country stars no doubt. I can see why folks, not inclined to country music, might not like their music styles but people both Scotty and Lauren are good for country. James is a great rocker and perhaps he's the favorit to win it. But don't count Haley out. She is also a great talent and is, in my opinion, the most pop of all the artist. It's a shame they all can't win it because they all deserve to win it. Even a few voted off earlier deserve to win it. I don't think I have ever seen more talent on any previous American Idol. I can't say who will win and I won't pick who will be voted off next. All I can say is it's a shame any of them lose out. Good Job Idol Contestants!

    From the first round....
Well first I must say that I have been a diehard James fan from the start. BUT i think he was flat from the start on "Don't Stop Believing". I could hear Steve Perry singing that in the back of my head and James is NO Steve Perry.
Haley I think shouted the whole song, I hated it.
Scotty, well although Scotty is a nice young man, he is boring to me.
I have also been a Lauren fan from the start. She reminds me of a younger Carrie Underwood. I would have to give round one to Lauren!
    Round Two
Haley had a great song choice for round two and kicked butt.
I had a great laugh at Lady Gaga with Scotty! I think he will have a country music career regardless of what happens.. Once again though, Scotty was just....well Scotty. Did I mention that I hate the way he holds the microphone.
Evil? Lauren? What a joke! She did a good job on the song though. I just hope that it didn't discourage people from voting for her because I think she deserves to be in the top three. Good performance.
James was over the top normal James. Great job as always! I really think he deserves to win the whole thing.

Maybe they are desperate to have a winner stand up at the end so they don't lose out to The Voice and they know the three they don't say bad stuff about they could but they need to play up whoever wins to make them seem better than they are and yet they need to criticize SOMEONE to not lose all credibility and they figure Haley probably wouldn't get enough votes to actually win so she will be the lamb to sacrifice.

Only I think think they got it a bit wrong and didn't see the true story building and have just alienated a big part of the fanbase and ended up making the show lose MORE respect trhough foolish calculation.

I don't know. But something is off about it all.

  39. Yes

Yes, I am finally one step too far sick of all the calculated Haley dishing onto when they so clearly let everyone else slide by with 10x worse stuff. They even hate on her for stuff they praise others to the sky for!

But Gaga was awesome since she actually gave ADVICE and CRITICISM that was USEFUL and FAIR to all.

And as for Haley can take criticism, well she took Gaga's and used it! Because it was actually something real, fair and helpful!

I honestly, for the first time ever, feel they have taken the whole producers/judges picks story arc so far this season they are ruining it and I don't see why I should even bother next season.

Randy got caught on mic the other week (after people processed away the crowd noise) saying he was rooting against Haley and laughing over to JLo as the crowd was giving Haley a standing ovation as she finished!

"Uhhhhh, ahhh, I'm, I'm NOT rooting for her, hah, hahahaha"

And people wonder why she get so hurt she finally tries to defend herself a little, it maybe wasn't wise but give the poor girl a weak they are basically bullying her at this point if he honestly look at what they have said to everyone else and then her over the season.

At least she felt a song she felt about for the first one! Nobody knew Scotty's or Lauren's song either! But do they mention that and make a big deal about it?

And if she is such a self-centered b then why did she pick something outwards inspirational, not about herself, about helping people, helping animals, the environment, and seem so into it? One of the other songs was all about self, not that it's fair to get on him about that. And another contestant got giggly during a song that moves truly moves them?

What if she had picked some big pop song she had no connection with? Then what? They would probably get on her for being a phony and going for cheap votes! She can't win! And even if they say legit stuff about her that is not 100% positive why the heck don't they say it to others when they may do the same thing to an even bigger degree!

Call em out, say stuff, but to everyone, not one week after week no matter what!

Imagine if Haley acted all corny like Scotty in his second song? They'd kill her! If she ran off out of the studio too overcome they'd call her a pouty baby. Anybody else and it's all positive! Sing off key and it's because you feel it, unless it's one note from her.

Go back and you'll see Randy and often JLo say everything about Haley but lets others slide by who do same or 10x worse without a hint of question, people have put together detailed videos and it just shows how much of a bogus joke the show has become. Totally phony. Sad.

They took a great thing and finally haven taken away the last bits of respect.

One week, a few contestants literally hit about one on pitch note over a few bars and not a thing was said, lst week someone missed more than half the notes and nothing said, and Haley missed TWO notes the whole song one week and they dogged her for it. Come on! Nothing wrong with telling her stuff but why only her?

And now they say they only get on her because she is the best so they can ask more of her than from others, well they sure put it in a negative light, why? most likely because she didnt fit into the season arc plans set weeks ago. or who knows why.

Even Steven Tyler seemed a little disgusted by the dog and pony show. he didn't even seem to sit near the others this week. and kinda talked the other judges down at one point.

All the judges are afraid to be the bad guy which makes the judges' opinion boring. I totally understand though why they don't want to be the bad guy especially for Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler's case cause they still have a recording career. And Randy can't take on the bad guy role or else people wolud just be saying he is trying to be Simon. The need a judge who can play the villain to make things more interesting.

Randy... quit w/ the "in it to win it" crap. Steven... yes, everything is beautiful. Jlo.... do you really need notes to read from? Sleepy, boring, and pathetic... same thing every week. James? Where's the "nice but you did nothing to make it your own" Journey song? And cut Haley some slack re. her pouty look while being criticized. Thats what, the 2nd time all flippin season that the judges actually JUDGED!? No wonder she looked, "how dare you" shocked. lol

I have read all of the above and I hate to say it but none of you are musicians. There was actually only one point all night when someone was off key and that was 3-4 notes at the end of Lauren's second song which she caught and corrected. Last week they were all off in most of their songs for several beats. I just thought maybe the mixing was wrong.

All of them have talent but you would expect that at the end with the final 4. They have obviously come a long way with professional help from the Idol crew. But in the end there are two things that make for success. First, a great CD and that is relatively easy with sound and mixing. The second is harder, good stage presence for concerts and that was what Lady Gaga was trying to pull out of them. They have to entertain you...who does this the best? I want your open comments.

    • you missed a few

lauren had a single, but VERY, off-key note in her first song that just jumped at you

and James had a number of off-key notes, although not as many as last week by any means and the ones that were off were just slightly off and not jump in your face off like the week before so perhaps you don't have quite fine enough pitch to have caught it.... i wouldn't kill him for it this week and it wasnt big enough deal to really mention

James= sceaming and if he's not screaming at the top of his lungs his notes are uaually off...but puts on a good show.
Scotty= 1 dimentional...but will be an automatic country star
Lauren= pretty good but sounds like almost everyother lady country singer i've ever heard... and I get tired of all the crying week in and week out...needs to grow up a little.

Then there's Haley...she has proven she can do it all. Notes are great..can hold the long ones...can sing almost any style she wants to...she's got the looks and the stage presence to win it all!!! Bratty...nope! She was only defending the performance she knew was great. Tonight I thought both songs were great and she knew it too...America knew her 1st song was great and that's all that matters now. I also love how she takes all the negative comments from j-lo and randi, stands tall, and pools all that anger into the next song...

American Idol 2011 - Just ended tonight.

It doesn't really matter anymore as Scotty will likely win as he's far above everyone in the voting, regardless of whether he's the best or not. He has the $Million now so it's up to James, Haley and Lauren to battle for 2nd.

    Sorry, but true.

I liked them all, but seriously, Pia blew it on Dancing With The Stars and proved that she needed to go when she did.

I agree.. I don't understand it, but I agree. It's just as well too because if Scotty wins over all the talent available this season then the show has been reduced to a popularity contest anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like Scotty, It's just that I've seen a lot of talent leave the stage that was much better than he is. Just my opinion

Haley made a complete mockery of a song one sung by Michael Jackson.

Tonight also proved my theory that since day one, Lauren and Haley have been grossly overrated.

Scotty and James did the best tonight.

As much as I like all of them, it's now down to the wire. They need to do show stoppers. Song selection is extremely important. James successfully did 2 great performances. The ending of the second song was incredible. Haley did
actually sound like she was screaming during the first performance, but her second performance once again showed
how incredible she can sing. She was also extra beautiful during her 2nd performance. Image wise she was at her best. Lauren surprised me, she came through more than ever. The 1st song showed more confidence in her range and style of singing, and her 2nd showed she has a bite. She was the surprise of the night. I happen to like Scotty a lot. He's a song stylist, however the country style may over shadow this for American Idol. I believe recording wise, Scotty will be the most successful, he is incredibly marketable. But his song selection wasn't good enough for the timing of being a finalist. I would hate to see him go, but the top performances of this night were James, Haley, and Lauren. It's going to be interesting to see who get's voted off. Lady GaGa was "keeping it real" by being a honest and down to earth mentor. She did a great job. This was also one of the surprises of the night.

By the way... Haley wasn't being a brat tonight. She simply told Dawg that she heard him the 1st time he bashed her and she got it the first time. You see the girl could see her chances going down the toilet because she knew that Scotty or James could come out and bust out Barry Manillo and they'd be "In it to win it!" according to Dawg and Jlo.
That is the one difference this year is that the judges will attack Haley for her song and think Scotty walks on water with that goofy piece of crap he belted out... No Justice

Scotty's good at what he does but he's a one-trick pony. Lauren has very good control of her voice but she doesn't have a sound that sets her apart from other country-rock acts out there such as Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and the female in Lady Antebellum. Haley and James are the only two who stand out and James has a creative edge that should help him win.

Miss Tyler LOVES everyone and every song...reallly he has NEVER said a disparraging word to any of them. The judges have all been a pathetic joke this year. REALLY miss Simon and his brutal honesty. Heck she was so close she may have heard him say he was basically against her and laughing at her mayeb it made her even more sensitive and hurt this week?

I think the judges are darn lucky that Haley didn't tell them where to put their criticism. Particularly Randy. Scotty, James and Lauren were about even and Haley did the worst? Puh-leez. James is either off-key or screaming, Scotty does basically the same song every week, and Lauren is basically Pickler with bigger hair. About as smart, too. They rag on Haley every week with their tepid criticism, while licking the boots of the others. I never thought I'd miss Simon, with his gratuitous occasionally overly-mean remarks just to be mean, but at least he could give constructive criticism that actually MEANT something! "I love you" or "_____'s in it to win it" are just plain useless. Haley takes a lot of risks, and while I don't always love the overuse of the growling, she has the best voice and far and away the most versatility on that stage.

Please stop with the Haley being bratty comments. I would be frustrated too if I was consistently out-performing the others, but yet being the only contestant recieving poor reviews. I am really starting to miss Simon, and spent tonight hoping someone would tell James he was "overindulgent," because he was; hoping someone would tell Scotty he was "corny," becuase he was; and hoping that someone would just tell Lauren that her perofmance was "awkward" and didn't work, because it didn't; however, they were all praised. Go Haley, can't wait to hear some original stuff once this dog and pony show is over.

Does most of America know what pitchy means? It means being flat or sharp, under or over the note (having bad pitch. Pitchy is word Randy made up because the thinks Americans are too dumb to know what off key means. And he may be right). Love her or hate her, Haley was not pitchy. I am not sure she has ever sang a note off key. James may be very entertaining, but he rarely sings a note on key. At least he is off key at some point in every song he sings. For whatever reason, Randy really wants James to win and for Haley not to win. Who knows why? I've leave Scottie and Lauren to the country fans, I am not one of them, though I think they both will be very successful.

OK I hate to say it but you are at least partially tone deaf. Not trying to be mean. But you can't say Haley has been the most pitchy and James the least when the measurable, BY COMPUTER, truth it the exact opposite! You are obviously listening to music and keying into other aspects than pitch, which is fine if that is how your hearing works that is how it works, but it is FACTUALLY, provably in a computer lab wrong to say that James has been hitting 99% of his notes and Haley missing tons every other song! I actually like James second best but he missed a horrendous number of notes last week. Even Jimmy Iovine had to back door mention it last week.

You can not like her not like her style her tone whatever but it is 100% wrong to say Haley misses the most notes and James hits the most. It's not opinion and if you really think that then your brain has at least partial tone deafness, maybe complete (it's not really that rare you have tons of company).

Haley has been in the bottom three on more occassions than I can count and yet she was always dignified and smiling. Lauren last week was in the bottom two and cried like a baby. Haley is by far the better singer of the two. If anybody should go home it's J-Lo she is the worst judge ever makes Paula look really really good. Every week she gushes over James – never ever points out any mistakes he makes but she always trashed Haley. I think she needs to pay more attention to the actual singing. Finally if you tell them to pick a song that has meaning for them don't turn arount and tell them it's not the right song how lame is that.

I think their sound tells the real story. From my TV sound, Haley needs a lot of work on some of her songs. Yes, she is good every other time, but that's not good enough to be the idol.

    • The Dawg

@Cassie – how can you say her vocals need more work when Lauren has much weaker breath control? James is off pitch a million times more. And Scotty well country isn't my thing and he gets so cheesy lately.
Haley can switch styles on a dime. And again if you listen to what real singers, not associated with this season of Idol, say they all praise Haley's vocals like mad. All of them can use a bit more work, but more the rest than her (Scotty I can't judge he sings the same three notes and song 85% of the time and it's just so not my thing he might be good at what he does if that is your thing although some country lovers have told me he is not really all that by any means).

even if you don't like Haley, it's foolish to trash her vocal abilities, heck even JLo has had to grudgingly admit she has the best vocal talent left although she and Randy dog her so much it's easy to have missed.

I'm a big Journey fan and a Steve Perry lover. Can't count the times I've seen them in concert. I thought James butchered the song tonight. And I usually like James Tough call on the final 3. I do agree though that Lauren is very good but just too young.

Haley gets pooped on every week by the judges. Like the judges prime her to go home. I would crack eventually too, especially if someone was bashing a song that was supposed to be an inspiration. They asked "Pick a song that inspires you" then they are telling her she picked a song that wasn't for the audience? The judges are so annoying this season, it makes me nauseous. I, on the other hand, think Haley is incredible. So much character in her voice that none of the other contestants have. Final word, really Lauren? You are afraid to say the word evil? Why did you pick the song? This isn't the freakin' Disney Channel. Grow up.

Jigwah you couldn't have said it better. Haley is awesome. All the people that are calling her bratty are spineless pukes in my opinion. The girl can sing. She has soul, class, maturity, character, and much much talent. James screams and am I the only one who thinks he sings way out of tune on some of his songs? Lauren doesn't know who the hell she is and is a wishy washy teenager who would get swallowed whole by Haley. Scotty has talent, but no range. GO HALEY. I love you. If it were me getting beat down by the judges I would have been more than bratty in response. LOVE U HALEY.

I like James but he went flat when he went low, on the first song. Praising James then ragging on Haley made no sense. Saying she overstretched her register; just, makes you wonder if he can hear. Haley can hit any not Lauren can. I agree with the critique about the type of album she would do. Haley's versatility hurts; when the others fit squarely in a box. I wish Scotty would go because he's got the brightest future without winning. James' boot-licking is annoying but he may need the most help. All are good. It probably depends on genre support.

so true! Randy had the call to try to call Haley out on he range when she has the best range of anyone left! And he let slide that Lauren skipped the high notes last week?? They always support Lauren and tell her she has all the high notes in her even if she hasn't done them yet and yet Haley who has at times they bash for range and call her on changing the?

He called her out once for TWO of notes and let someone miss almost every note and not even mention it!

Lauren had a HUGE missed note tonight, one was wayyy off pitch and he said 100% utterly flawless not one thing can be said about it.

      so biased

if they were fair and legit and Haley got voted off, ok I'd hate it, but I'd have to respect it even while disagree with the majority vote, but i have just totally lost respect for Idol, so blatantly manipulated this year so much more than any other year.

Obviously, some of you idiots have not realized that James cannot sing. He makes a lot of mistakes when he sings and he always sounds flat. James is by far the biggest diva, at times outrightly refusing the criticisms and advice of actual professionals like Jimmy Ivine. He has a massive ego by far yet no talent to back it up. C'mon now "Don't stop believin" could you try any harder to kiss Randy's ass? Not only have I heard that song in every karaoke bar across the state a million times (real original *rolls eyes*) but i've heard it sung a whole lot better. What I find weird is the refusal of the judges to criticize him or Scotty although they are consistently pitchy (yet somehow this is overlooked). The two girls are the only ones that the judges are really hard on even though they are the better singers and have grown the most. Did we forget that scotty made it on the show by singing one song over and over and over again?! His limited range, funky eyebrows and stupid gollum like way of holding a microphone has become increasingly irritating. And for the ones who think Haley is bratty, you obviously don't have a brain. She's not a brat, she's only upset because she has two idiots as judges. You have a woman that cannot sing judging her and a fat man that only know how to say "YOU ARE IN IT TO WIN IT." I miss the good old days when Simon gave real criticism.

Seriously...you took the words right out of my mouth. You are dead-on with everything you said. And all those Haley-haters...what do you want her to do? The judges constantly give her feedback that is clearly bias and meant to unfairly sway the voting audience. I think she holds herself up with a lot of dignity and self-respect in the face of impotent judge commentary. They are idiots...and Randy Jackson has lost all credibility. And what's the business with the judges swooping over Scotty? He's McCreepy. We can't even watch him perform.

While her second performance was better I just don't think she ready and you can see it in her performances. And hear is an unpopular opinion but is everything James singing start to sound the same? Can anyone honestly say they could listen to him shriek to the rafters for a whole album. I'm not saying he doesn't have his moments but honestly. My pick for the final 3 Hailey, James, Scotty.

well last week and maybe she heard it Randy got caught saying to JLo that he was rooting against her so how do you think she feels?

it's so sad people just listen to the judges and not for themselves, even if you dont like her singing you have to admit they call her out for EVERYTHING and let every one else slide all sorts of off-key, missed glory notes, corny karaoke, etc. but not her.

And pro singers NOT being paid by the Idol producers have said her singing has rocked and she's been most consistently on pitch and has craziest vocal skills of anyone there.

But again if you dont like her thing you dont but you ahve to see the absurd level of bias and the bald manipulation by the producers. They would go nuts if she bumped Lauren as the girl for the top two.

I don't mean to be cruel, but please God don't let Lauren mess up a final three of James, Scotty and Haley. Scotty is a once in a lifetime talent, this kid is going to be great whether he wins or not, he has a fan here for life. Haley has just grown on me every week, and time and time again, she has told the judges to shove it with her second songs. She just blew it out of the ballpark tonite with her second song. I hate how predictable things have become ever since Pia was sent home. That was the only interesting elimination of the entire season. Now it'll go Haley, Lauren, and Scotty, with James wining. Boring. (Ok MAYBE Scotty wins, but who cares anymore)

It would've been a far more interesting end to the season if Pia, Stephano, Casey, and maybe even Jacob were still around. Instead we're left with a very predictable group, except for maybe Haley.

Tonite Lauren was a little better than usual, but I just can't seem to get excited her singing – not one of her songs all year has ever been a moment. If anyone gets accrused of being boring this year, it is Lauren. If Lauren gets into the final three, it will be a total injustice.

Disingenuous. Harsh. And then their abysmal attempts to justify and explain their biases. Why not just crown King James? I thought this was supposed to be a contest, not a coronation.

The constant drooling over James, the criticism of Haley and the prattling on and on... get over it J-Lo and Randy. You two have been outed, so don't try to mask your actions. She has not done any worse than the others yet is the only one they rip on; the others can do no wrong while she is torn apart. When she follows up with a great performance, Randy and J-Lo take credit for it. Whether you are a fan of hers or not, what was done to her last night was inexcusable ... for Randy to say she was the only one who needed to improve, right before she was to sing her second song ... inexcusable.

In years past, some good talents finished in the #4 position – in addition to Daughtry, there was LaToya London, Josh Gracin, Tamyra Grey and Allison Iraheta to name a few.

Despite some lackluster performances this evening, and based more on the quality of their voice, past performances, and future potential – I think the 3 to advance should be Lauren, James and Scotty.

No way. Haley has by far the best vocal control and can do so many different things. Don't think she can sing without jazz growl and jazz voice? yourube up "Haley Reinhart like a star cover".

Scotty is getting a bit too corny for me. And country isn't my thing, but even ignoring that I don't know just so corny tonight and they didn't even call that out. Simon would've been ALL over that. might take Lauren ove rhim at this point, although if you like scotty's thing i gues he does it well.

James was horribly off pitch almost the entire songs last week and at other times but wasn't nearly so off, if still slightly, this week and is more interesting than Scotty and Lauren and I do like him.

I say Haley and James for top two!
Although the show producers might burn the place down before that happened.

Lastly, we have the most unassuming girl (Lauren) who really does not know just how great of a voice she has..I say Lauren and Haley in the final, but what will happen is what always does, the girls go home and the two guys will get the end spotlight..I voted for both Haley and Lauren and hope that America sees and HEARS what they both HAVE for voices!

please give me a break...Haley Bratty? Heck, I would be a lot more than bratty if i was getting beat down week after week for no apparent reason. James is entertaining and picks good songs, but sings out of tune on a lot of them. Lauren doesn't know who the heck she is. Scotty is talented but has no range. Haley has soul, character and dammit the girl can sing, but just because J Lo and Randy throw her under the bus for god knows what reason, followers like you will also. Grow a backbone. J Lo shouldn't even be a judge cause the girl can't sing herself yet she is up there telling people to belch out higher notes and Randy is a dumb one too cause all he does is copy all of what J LO says. It's all a joke. GO HALEY i love you...keep your confidence and screw what all these other guppies think, you are talented and I can guarantee you will be somebody. 🙂 LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE HALEY WOOO HOOOO

I totally disagree with Anna – Lauren will absolutely ruin a final. I agree with Janelle, every week Haley has been beat down by the judges – they she goes out and kills a song. She knows ahead of time what the judges are going to say – blah blah blah – ignores them and then shines. I want Scotty to win, but after all these weeks, I have finally realized that if Scotty doesn't win, I hope Haley does (not James). She tough!

Haley has not had a lot of bad performances, certainly not more than the others. But the whole production is manipulating everyone since they only dog her (and if read tweets by singers not being paid by the show they have a rather different take on it than the judges).

And Lauren got some harsh news once and she breaks down (to the point I slightly fear if she is ready for film or won't get killed by all teh harsh stuff that can come along with it), sure I feel sorry for her, but Haley gets beat down every week for half that. Scotty got all twitchy the one time they spoke poorly. They pick on Haley all the time and single her out but no sympathy for her??

Randy even said on mic that he is not rooting for Haley (someone processed the audio and got rid of the crowd and isolated his open mic as he was talking to JLo).

Haley out sang all of them, including JLo's performance last week.
I don't think she was bratty, but confidant! Even if you think she was, isn't this show about talent!!!!

I use to like James, but he is too humdrum anymore..and Love Potion #9...really!!!

Thought they beat up way to much on Haley...love how she keeps it real with her reactions...put yourself up there... Scotty was silly with his second song and didn't get one negative comment...if Haley did that the judges would have dragged her off the stage...Haley has 3 of the best performances of the year Benny and the Jets, House of the Rising Sun and tonight's I who have nothing... give her a break. James does a great job and Lauren has her moments... Scotty is way to up and down to be in the top 3 !

Haley is the best, hands down.
How could J Lo and Yo Dog crticize her and not say anything about Scotty's ultra-silly hokiness, or James' constant off-key notes. They seem to be trying to rig this for James.
If you're going to criticize then be willing to do it to all contestants.
Why is that James can do no wrong? Talk about "screaming" the notes, Yo Dog, that's all he does.

Three songs for the season isn't enough. Some of them were good every week, every song. HALEY GO HOME!!!

Anyone notice how UNFAIR it was to have James OPEN and CLOSE the show? Also, did ya notice how much extra time James receives on the show? Totally biased..

I still don't think Lauren is ready for this. Look how she breaks down whenever she is mildly criticized or when she was in the bottom two. James is entertaining, but so are thousands of others. In my mind, he has never held a candle to Adam Lambert. I'm still not sure about Haley. The only stand alone Idol, in my opinion, is Scotty. I will be very happy if he and Jacob become major stars. I think for the others, it will depend on songs given to them, or what they write themselves. This was a great year, but, like the show, it comes down to song choices.
