Has Alec Baldwin changed his tune about starring in the upcoming "Rock of Ages" movie musical?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin has decided not to play Bourbon Room club owner Dennis Dupree in the big-screen adaptation of the popular Broadway show.
The announcement comes nearly two months after Baldwin revealed he had been taking singing lessons to prepare for the role, which would see him singing REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling."
But don't count Baldwin out just yet—Deadline reports that the actor hasn't abandoned the project entirely. New Line studios tells the site he is currently dealing with a personal issue, which should be resolved by the time shooting begins on May 23.
"Rock of Ages" tells the story of small-town girl Sherrie (Julianne Hough), who moves to Hollywood to be an actress. She takes a job at the Bourbon Room, owned by Dennis Dupree (Baldwin), and catches the eye of Drew (Diego Gonzalez Boneta).
Drew gets Sherrie fired after she has an affair with Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), and she takes a job as a stripper at a gentleman's club owned by Justice (Mary J. Blige). Sherrie eventually gives up exotic dancing to find true love.
Good, I guess he had an epiphany about how totally gay a rock musical is, and coming from me that means something...
