Rachel Weisz in talks to play witch in 'Oz'Oscar winner Rachel Weisz may soon show off her wicked side. The actress is circling the role of the Wicked Witch of the East in Disney's upcoming "Wizard of Oz" prequel, "Oz: The Great and Powerful." According to the Hollywood Reporter, Weisz is close to signing on to play Evanorah, the evil witch who would ultimately have a house land on her when Dorothy drops by Oz. The prequel finds Evanorah attempting to rule the land and trying to draw her kid sister Theodorah — the future Wicked Witch of the West — over to the dark side. Mila Kunis has already been cast as Theodorah in the fantasy film, and James Franco will play the titular Oz, a snake-oil salesman who encounters real magic when his balloon carries him to the mysterious land somewhere over the rainbow. That leaves one more role up in the air, so we ask: Who do you think should play Glinda the Good Witch?

I went to Chicago to see Wicked, it was GREAT! Total wiz of oz fan, look forward to hearing the wicked witch of the east' story!Wish they would stick to Maguire's versions. I also would like to see the book (also by Maguire)"Son of a Witch" turned into a movie. How cool would that be??? Cool to some of us, I suppose!

Kristin Chenoweth, of course! But I guess the Wicked fans might be a bit put off what with this being a Disney knock-off. Though I was sad to see she won't be Effie in the Hunger Games film. I thought she'd make a perfect Effie.
the movie is wonderful.
There is a movie version of Wicked coming out within the next year.
It is interesting to see how different creatives envision the Oz stories. If you think this movie won't be to your liking, don't watch it.
Oz was not a dream. In L. Frank Baum's original book, a dream is not mentioned. The MGM movie interpreted Oz as a dream. It also changed many things about the book. i.e., The Ruby Slippers were originally silver.
Baum went on to write 13 more Oz books with Ruth Plumely Thompson writing many more after his death.

Oz was a dream. How can you do a prequel a dream? Franco is way over-rated. Just leave one of the greatest and most original movies off all time alone.
Actually it wasn't a dream according to the author of the original story. Oz was kind of like a magical dimension, and there were dozens more books written about it besides "The Wizard of Oz"'. Also, there were a bunch of movies ( most silent and in black and white) made about it before the color one we all know, which were truer to the original story. Believe it or not, there was no green witch, and the ruby slippers were actually silver!
She needs to wear on o them cupless pushup braseries in it ! Id pay to see that !

I would love to see a movie production of Wicked. It would be much more entertaining than this sounds like it is going to be. And I would really like to stop seeing James Franco.

It's too bad they can't just do a movie version of "Wicked". Disney's new movie is pretty much a stab in the back of both L Frank Baum as well as Gregory Maguire at the same time.
I totally agree. I would much much much rather see a WICKED movie.
Before people start saying "Oh, Wicked's a rip off of The Wizard of Oz", you have to realize that Wicked just took the characters and gave them back stories. Wicked's author created back stories and gave you a reason to love/hate the everything that you love/hate about The Wizard of Oz.
What about Tin Man (the three part mini-series from ScyFy)? That's a knock off of The Wizard Of Oz. Wicked is a prequel, meaning that it gives the details of the story BEFORE The Wizard set his balloon down in Oz. Before Wicked, you didn't know about Glinda and The Wicked Witch of the West. You didn't know why she was evil, or why Glinda was good. You just knew they were. Now you can take whichever story you want: L. Frank Baum's or Gregory Maguire's.
My opinion: Disney's movie is going to flop.
