Jon Stewart on Osama bin Laden's death

One day after President Obama announced Osama bin Laden's death, Jon Stewart was still rejoicing.

"Yes, we shouldn't have killed him," the "Daily Show" host told his audience Monday. "Now the terrorists are going to want to attack us. But you know what, even when they do, you know who won't see it? Bin Laden. Because we shot out his eyes, and now he lives in a pineapple under the sea."

The New Yorker also joked that bin Laden didn't know his days were numbered.

"Believe me, he wasn't expecting it. You know he was living in some staid and upscale Pakistani suburb for some time when we got him. You know this guy's out there preaching suicide bombing and jihad pretending he's Gandalf wandering the frontier, all the while he's living like one of the housewives of Orange County," he said.

Stewart then turned serious and noted that bin Laden hurt the image of Arabs throughout the world and that his death was a major hit to al Qaeda.

"Can they still do damage? I'm sure," he said. "But we're back, baby."

I nominate Jon Stewart for God, King and President...He is funny, smart and a pleasure to be around. Every persons IQ and GPA goes up when he's near. The Daily Show and The Colbert report should be require viewing in all schools during breakfast for grade 6 and up, also for the House and Senate too. To those poor sad grumpy people, well...You can't fix stupid! They'll complain just to hear the sound of their own voice, kinda like that guy whose name rhymes with bin laden... :O)

Jon Stewart is one of the most educated, informed, and articulate commentators there is. Some people don't get sarcasm and absurd humor tho, and that's ok. I know some really good people that just don't get his humor that otherwise agree with him politically.

I know this one guy tho, I asked him what he thought of Stewart, he says, 'that guy's a pinhead, I hate him.' I said, 'have you ever watched his show?' He says, 'no, and I don't plan on it, Bill O'Reilly says he sucks, that's good enough for me.' True story.

This article needs to quote his most important statement last night: "The face of the Arab world in America's eyes for too long has been Bin Laden. Now it is not. Now the face is the young people in Egypt and Tunesia and all the middle eastern countries in the world rising up for freedom." <– That quote is much more powerful and important than his sarcastic comment this article opens up with. That sarcastic line isn't as good without the context of the show. This quote is powerful enough, though

I am not a fan of our government in many ways but, the only way to deal with inane, insane muderers is give them what they deserve which is death. The victims didn't get to chose so why should a terrorist. It let's them know the only thing to do is not "MESS WITH THE US" period and like serial killers that have been executed you don't hear much from them lately. Hmmmmm

    • No, not nice Joe

It's just sad and unfortunate that more often than not it's true. You may be coming from a good and well-intentioned place, but a vast many of your counterparts surely are not. Believe you me, there's nothing at all nice of being compelled to call someone a racist. What people should do upon being called that however, is genuinely take a look at the catalyst for their actions and/or the words they speak and ask themselves why they're doing what they're doing, or saying what they're saying. Quite often if that individual has the discipline to be honest with themselves, their intelligence will most likely far outweigh their irrational thoughts and behaviors. It's too easy for people not to use their brains though Joe, as opposed to changing what may possibly be years of ignorance. I sincerely believe you know of what I speak. I prefaced my statement by not saying you were a part of the absurdity, but so many others are. You may very well be but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

But you know what... There are thousands upon thousands of 'elites' working around the world to solve those challenges... "Sgt?" Yeah, I bet. Dishonorable discharge would be my guess. Obama's made some campaign promises that he had to reconsider as a sitting president. On the other hand, Bush either lied about the WMDs or just said what Cheney told him to say, and got us into two wars when what we needed was a military strike and an embargo. I'll take the one who never choked on a pretzel over the one who never had a real job.

It was always only a matter of time until another large-scale terrorist attack anyway. America has had a "big Target" on our backs for a while now, so I don't know why everyone is so scared all of the sudden. If anything, Osama's death at least diminished some vital resources for the terrorists. And at the very least, I don't think their decision to retaliate will be driven by the words of an American comedian...

And while we are at it, let's credit Mr. Bush for ignoring his own intelligence briefing outlining Al Queda's threat of using airplanes as weapons a few weeks before 9/11/2001! That inaction only cemented the legacy of OBL in the minds of religous finatics. Furthermore, with the same resources, Mr. Bush couldn't get his man and in fact told Americans the he no longer thought about OBL. If you are going to blame President Obama for the economy because he is at the helm then you must give him the credit on this one, as well as the dedicated troops.

Dan, seriously? You don't think that crazy w whisked the bin Laden family out of the country immediately following the events of 9/11? Seriously? There were only 2 planes in the sky...Air Force One (run georgie run), and the bin Laden family. We didn't need Michael Moore to tell us that. We also didn't need him to tell us that Osama bin Laden was NOT in Iraq, or the fact that there were no real WMDs there. What w did was equivalent to ME smacking YOU in the mouth, and then YOU go on, get mad, and smack YOUR LITTLE SISTER. So talk about your little waterboard CRAP, but sit on your sweat-soaked couch and ask yourself why we didn't go look for OBL in a logical place dan smith. What? I'm sorry, what? I'd prefer if you could manage the dexterity to have a retort that contains logic if at all possible. Don't resort to your normal and severely limited lexicon of moron, fool, or whatever else you spout off when you're upset by LOGIC. Use your words dan smith, okay? All right buddy? Show of hands....has anyone here been in the military, and of those, have any of you been in combat?
To get things done, we have to get dirty. I don't care what was done to any prisoners, as long as we got the desired results. When someone does something bad to someone else, that person will pay.

Can anyone prove what "W" did, or did not do? If so, let us know how you know these things. Until I see proof, just opinions, my man.

You are either out of your mind, or so filled with hate and contempt that you can't fathom how our PRESIDENT could complete such an arduous task. I mean really. First of all, W wouldn't have completed this mission...well...because he DIDN'T. Secondly, even if he wanted to kill his friend (yes, I said that, look it up), he would have most likely leveled the entire place, killing scores of others in the process. Our current president BARACK OBAMA (YOUR leader) took part in orchestrating a masterful and technical plan that took out only the intended targets, saw the loss of no Americans, and he WATCHED THE ENTIRE MISSION LIVE AS IT UNFOLDED. To ignore obvious fact is to be a simpleton. Besides, had the mission been a failure, you would have been one of the first to lick the Cheeto dust off of your fingers, put your 8 year old laptop on your beer-stained wifebeater covered inflated stomach, and peck away saying that YOUR president (again, don't forget that) was fully responsible. Stop being that guy; don't be mad at your president because your mom named you Laredo. So you're named after a Jeep...it's okay man. Now get out your box of wine and celebrate this win for our country like the rest of us.

My apologies to It's a drive by.

Not to get all Kaczynski, the fact that it is idiomatic does not make it funny or correct. Still, I must concede to etymologist and Potsie Weber.

I thought that was absolutely hilarious the first three hundred times I heard it back in grade school.

You are probably more the Redneck Leno/cable guy type. We in the book learning states understand that not everyone can understand humor that takes a little thinking

It's because he uses intelligence in his humor, and obviously you don't understand that kind of humor.
Mabye if he told knock-knock jokes, and waved bright shiny objects around, you'd be entertained.....

Awww, did he make fun of Osama? You Republicans are angrier than the Saudis about this! Was he going to attack us right before the election and now it's all spoiled?

I'm guessing you're "on the hunt" for a functioning sense of humor. Or a frontal lobe. Happy hunting!

WHy's everyone picking on the dude because he doesn't find Stewart funny? Yeesh. Doesn't mean he's a moron. Everyone has their own sense of humor.

The part where he made Florida become an erection with balls, was the best part of his sketch.

Sadly, for those of us who've transplanted here from actual civilization, we know that Florida is actually just a limp dick with an enlarged prostate.

I live in Florida, have had prostate cancer, still found the limp dick funny. Thanks for making me laugh to tears. Beats being known for those darn hanging chads. Now we wre just know for something else hanging.

Also don't forget that this is the only state (Florida) where Viagra is probably more popular than weed.
