Jon Stewart on Osama bin Laden's deathOne day after President Obama announced Osama bin Laden's death, Jon Stewart was still rejoicing. "Yes, we shouldn't have killed him," the "Daily Show" host told his audience Monday. "Now the terrorists are going to want to attack us. But you know what, even when they do, you know who won't see it? Bin Laden. Because we shot out his eyes, and now he lives in a pineapple under the sea." The New Yorker also joked that bin Laden didn't know his days were numbered. "Believe me, he wasn't expecting it. You know he was living in some staid and upscale Pakistani suburb for some time when we got him. You know this guy's out there preaching suicide bombing and jihad pretending he's Gandalf wandering the frontier, all the while he's living like one of the housewives of Orange County," he said. Stewart then turned serious and noted that bin Laden hurt the image of Arabs throughout the world and that his death was a major hit to al Qaeda. "Can they still do damage? I'm sure," he said. "But we're back, baby."

I nominate Jon Stewart for God, King and President...He is funny, smart and a pleasure to be around. Every persons IQ and GPA goes up when he's near. The Daily Show and The Colbert report should be require viewing in all schools during breakfast for grade 6 and up, also for the House and Senate too. Jon Stewart is one of the most educated, informed, and articulate commentators there is. Some people don't get sarcasm and absurd humor tho, and that's ok. I know some really good people that just don't get his humor that otherwise agree with him politically.
I know this one guy tho, I asked him what he thought of Stewart, he says, 'that guy's a pinhead, I hate him.' I said, 'have you ever watched his show?' He says, 'no, and I don't plan on it, Bill O'Reilly says he sucks, that's good enough for me.' True story.

Why does Stephen Colbert never get mentioned? I find Colbert's material/jokes/delivery FAR superior to Stewart's. Stewart's coverage of the death of Bin Laden was pretty funny but Colbert's was absolutely HILARIOUS!!!

It's just sad and unfortunate that more often than not it's true. You may be coming from a good and well-intentioned place, but a vast many of your counterparts surely are not. Believe you me, there's nothing at all nice of being compelled to call someone a racist. What people should do upon being called that however, is genuinely take a look at the catalyst for their actions and/or the words they speak and ask themselves why they're doing what they're doing, or saying what they're saying. Quite often if that individual has the discipline to be honest with themselves, their intelligence will most likely far outweigh their irrational thoughts and behaviors. Well, Cheney called off the hunt for Osama because he didn't want to upset Pakistan, or something worse. Obama started the hunt again and had him within a year. I don't blame Bush, who was playing with his model trains and pet goat for eight years, because he's a child in a man's body, but it took a real president to do this right.

I could not agree more, Gary. I always appreciate Stewart's candor and humor, but in this case, I found it really off-putting and in poor taste. Then again, he said that it was very difficult for him to be rational about this. Also, even though that quote is mistakenly attributed to MLK, it still rings true for me.

I celebrate the Bin Laden's well overdue demise. I embrace it, I jumped and danced for joy! This "person" reaped benefits from the killing of innocent people and destroying families, the only thing I regret about this is the fact that his death was not slower and groin-related. And I say this as someone who is left leaning. You may feel too sophisticated and intellectual and to not get caught up in the "football mentality" or however bougy way you put it, but leave the stick up your nether region if you want, let the rest of us enjoy this new sensation of increased gravitational pull on our testicles.
I completely agree Gary, and I was living in NYC with my 3-wk old son on 9/11 thinking the world was coming to an end. He was an evil man who lived by the gun and died by the gun, but to cheer and celebrate even an evil man's death is skeevy at best.
