The nominees for this year's Tony Awards were announced Tuesday, and the musical "The Book of Mormon" leads with 14 nominations, including one for best musical.
The Broadway production from the creators of "South Park" has some competition in that category from the musical "The Scottsboro Boys," which nabbed 12 nominations overall. "Anything Goes" picked up nine Tony Awards noms, and the Daniel Radcliffe-starring musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" is nominated for eight.
"The Merchant of Venice" is the most-nominated play this year, with seven nods, including one for its star, Al Pacino.
As for the usual Hollywood presence on Broadway, "Sister Act" and "Catch Me If You Can" received five and four nominations respectively, including nods for best musical. But for those that were excited to see "Harry Potter" perhaps win a Tony, it looks like you'll have to wait. Radcliffe, the "Potter" franchise's star, was left off the list for best actor in a musical, a role for which he received rave reviews.
So who do you think will win? Catch all the winners when the 65th annual Tony Awards air on Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

I cherished as much as you will receive carried out proper here. The caricature is attractive, your authored subject matter stylish. nonetheless, you command get bought an nervousness over that you want be handing over the following. sick for sure come further beforehand again as precisely the same just about a lot frequently within case you shield this increase.
It is truly a nice and useful piece of information. I'm glad that you just shared this useful information with us. Please stay us informed like this. Thank you for sharing.
Boys will be boys! Mormon boys are typically between the ages of 19 – 21. They are very young and very human! So it makes complete sense that not all of them follow the "rules"! Just because a handful of them broke some serious rules in Mexico, doesn't mean they ALL do! Use some common sense!
If Mormons are Christians then why do they say Jesus and Satan are brothers? Why do they say Jesus is a created being? Why do they say Jesus is not God?All these things contradict the one and ONLY Holy scritpture, the Bible. If they beleive in Jesus its not the same Jesus that John said is the word and was with God and was God.Jesus Christ is the creator of ALL things!ALL things that were created were created by him and for him.No other gods,no other universes.God was never a man nor from a planet or star called Kolob. That is not only herecy, its absolutely rediculous! To say Mormons are Christians is to say PETA members eat meat.Wrong!
Amen Big E! I pray that all Mormons, or others deceived by cults, come to know the real Jesus. He saved a sinner like me and I know He will save all that come to Him.
Sorry Big "e" , it is clear that you do now understand the Bible. I will pray that understanding comes your way. For Jesus is diety, but is he not also the Son of GOD, as well as being God. As we are also the spiritual children of God, is Christ then not our Elder brother. And as God is the Father of all spirits, is he not also the Father of the rebellious ones that departed with Satan as John confirms in revelations. So Satan is also a spiritual son (creation) of God and thus a relationship with us and Jesus as brothers, creations of GOD. It's not rocket science, just actually reading and understanding the Bible.
The Mormon people contribute much to our nation.
The Mormon people contribute much to our society.
Mormons are wonderful people who make us strong.
Some Mormons have come to the defence of their religion but still none has answered the question of Why do they call their Book of Mormon "another" gospel of Jesus Christ when the Bible STRICTLY FORBIDS any other gospel be preached. It is herecy and should be condemned! Oh yeah, why did Glenn Beck make reference to Usama Bin Laden burning in hell when Mormons dont beleive in hell?Which Jesus talked about quite often I might add.
@ Big E: Mormons DO believe in hell – they refer to it as Outer Darkenss. Their vision of hell is just obviously not in the same images as yours. Since I left the Mormon church 10yrs ago, I have visited several different religions (baptist, pentecostal, non-denom, methodist, presbyterian, etc.) and they all paint a different picture of hell. Just because someone else's vision of hell is different than yours doesn't mean they don't believe in it.
For those who believe that we are mindless sheep you are sorely mistaken. LDS people are some of the highest educated people in fields that prompt self thought. We know our histories and as I learn more, the more I come to see the perfection of the gospel. Yes people have made mistakes in the past, but even prophets are people (see Peter, John David, and all the early apostles)
YALL ARE ALL NASTY UNBELIEVERS ! I CONDEMN YOU ALL TO THE GREAT WILDERNESS ! OUR BRETHREN WILL REJOYCE IN THE MOTHERSHIP AS WE TRAVEL TO THE RIGELLIAN SOLAR SYSTEM AND REJOYCE IN EDEN !
"I am the EggMan
I am the EggMan
I am the Mormon
Goo goo ga jewb'
The Book of Mormon is "another" gospel of Jesus Christ. Then please explain to me why the apostle Paul said in Galatians,if anyone comes to you preaching "another" gospel of Jesus Christ,it is not a gospel at all and must be rejected and that person should be persecuted? No Mormon I have ever talked to has been able to answer this question.
Because it's Not another "gospel" of Jesus Christ. It is the same gospel, but another "testament" of Jesus Christ.
I think you must have asked the wrong mormons.
@burn the witch was that even needed!!seriously you coud of cut that down!!
No mormons allowed on my property... ive witness what u guys do in mexico..FAKES!!!!
I guess cnn didnt want to post my story about the mormon guys i met during my year long vacation to mexico and me seeing them getting drunk at a mexican club in ciudad obregon sonora mexico while they were picking up young women and bragging to me about it and admitting that all mormons do it...so much for them being christians...taking advantage of third world women. post it...because its true and if i can find my v-card i can prove it...heck...i will send it to the news...
But...i heard the show was good.
The sadess thing these guys said they all do it in third world countries....as if it was ok....i guess im getting that sign.....
So as i spoke with them. they couldnt help themselves about the amount of chics they racked up....thats very mormom. spec. for me a non denonational christian looking for a church to call home. too bad it turned me off the mo train...
Just stop them from waking me up when im trying to sleep off a 12 hours shift and ignoring the sign on my door! the next sign will read: beware of pitbull! on the gate...lol
Sad that a musical is celebrated for mocking religion, but if there was a musical released mocking gay people the world would unravel. Liberal hypocrisy at it's finest.
This was SUPPOSED to be about the Tony Nominations.....not a back and forth on the merits or drawbacks of a religion! We should all be disappointed in this commenting group.
Just a question... How many of you guys who are speaking against the LDS church have even read the Book of Mormon??? Because if you haven't then you are speaking out in total ignorance. I have read the Book of Mormon and to me it's obviously true! Maybe you guys should try doing the same instead of wasting your time trying to prove something that you know nothing about... Common are you afraid of the truth???
my my. Such views we have here. When all is said and done, it comes down to your personal relationship with God. That relationship is personal and communication with God is individual. Does it really matter what a person believes? Freedom of religion. God is the judge (actually Jesus Christ is) so what right do we as mortals have to bash one another over something that is personal and individual to each his/her own. Can't we just all love one another and respect what each other has found to bring them happiness in life? We will all find out when we die anyway. Christ knows His sheep and they hear His voice. Personal revelation is just that – personal. Hurting one another with this and that doesn't solve anything, prove anything, etc. This is called the spirit of contention. Which is of the devil. Everyone just relax here. Wow. Hold to your own personal beliefs and move forward.
This posting of The Marquee Blog was intended to announce that the Tony Awards nominations have been announced, with a partial listing of some of the categories and nominations. It was not intended to be a forum for the discussion of religion, whether one is right or wrong (anyone remember their history classes, many wars were started this way). I find it very shameful that people have turned their posts into a back-and-forth, pros and cons of Mormonism. Religion is personal, let's keep it that way. Until we meet our maker we will never know whose religion was right, wrong, or whether it mattered in the long run.
Please, let's return these posts to what they should be...a celebration and recognition of the people who worked so hard to bring these productions from words on pages to live performances. Their hard work, dedication, blood (figurative or literal), sweat, and tears should be commended. They poured their everything into these productions and should be lauded and celebrated.
This is about the Tony Awards......not a theological discussion!
There is undeniably truthfulness and a testimony that God makes known to our very souls, all that is within us, that make us who we are, our soul, both of body and spirit, fills our very mind with His light. A burning glow that you feel throughout your entire body. Those of us whom have a testimony to the truthfulness of ALL things, cannot deny that which we know to be true. There are millions of us who know this, and are in "tune" with the spirit of GOD. If there are any flaws, it is the flaws of mankind, NOT God's. To know the truth through the spirit, is how we know GOD, and what is of GOD and what is not. The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS is GOD's only true and living church, with a prophet to guide us and our 12 apostles, just as Jesus taught from the beginning. I live in Washington State I always have; my great great grandparents helped settle this State. They were of different religious beliefs, some were Seven Day Adventist, some were Methodist, Baptist, and even Catholic, but all that does not matter, what does matter is how they lived their lives, and the good or bad examples they taught their children. They are now in the the spiritual world we all call paradise, they remember their pre-existence with God, and are learning more of God and His son's sacrifice (Jesus) made for us, and waiting until we all join them for the Judgment day. Some are teaching the evil non believers in spirit prison, and those whom have committed evil crimes against humanity. There is so much many of you do not know, or have faith in, yet the knowledge is there for all. My husband is Catholic, but that does not change what I know or believe.
What had all the people from Arkansas done to deserve being massacred by the Morons at Mountain Meadows in Utah?
Guy - I agree that ignorance should not be the basis for forming opinions about others' beliefs. But it's most important to first recognize the ignorance, like the first step in recovering from problems is to admit you have one. That said, I've researched the history of the "mormon church" and I find several disturbing pieces of history. I find other continued disturbing beliefs that exist today and could never see myself abiding by. First, you are aware of the "church's" teachings regarding blacks, right? That they were "mistakes or aberrations" when God was creating people on earth. Oh, not part of the church anymore, right? Of course not, because it became politically and socially immoral to continue that. Imagine the wrath on the church today for continuing such racist and bigoted views. There's the early closet polygamy J. Smith practiced and lied about to the public, the inventiveness of a variety of prophecies and stories from one man (who we were to all take the word of on its face). My favorite, though, is the brilliant church marketing scheme, the most creative I've ever seen. Instead of relying on word of mouth, the church has its members BREED future mormons by conveniently teaching the idea of "heavenly real estate" tied to the number of children a family has. Brilliant! So from birth, the child is taught the mormon way as the only way and is brain washed from the beginning into so called religious slavery. Brilliant. Oppressive and wrong, but brilliant. Throw in funky holy underwear and the fact the church has membership status for those "special enough" to gain entry to special church "places in the temple" and you have a real cult going, alright. Yea, I said cult. Finally, I love how the women in the church are treated, more like means to an end (bearing children and keeping the house in order) than real human beings. And that's straight from female "mormons". I could go on, but I am tired. =)
@lord I feel sorry for you, that you are so spiritually void! You have the right to be that way if you so chose. Words are wasted on your deaf ears, and until you face GOD at the Judgment seat, will you know just how wrong you are. It is truly sad! You can't quote Jesus if you deni Him. Yet, there is a chance for you still, as long as you are alive on this earth. Seek and you shall find! GOD does answer prayers and confirm the truth of all things through the Holy Ghost. Your not the first to poke fun at GOD, nor unfortunately the last.
We are all here on this earth to test our faith and gain knowledge! We came from from GOD's kingdom, we exercised our freedom of choice to be here. To chose right from wrong, good from evil, righteousness from filthiness. There are millions of other earths out in the universe in varying degrees of progress, and I just wonder, how many are doubtful of GOD, just as you are?
Lynn, you are truly out of your mind, bat-poop crazy. You believe in fairy tales because you are vain and weak. You are too vain to deal with your own mortality and too weak to question what has been forced down your throat since a young age. Your lack of courage coupled with your vanity make you a truly sad and pathetic creature.
Guess what, when you die, you are dead. All of this time you've spent preaching and in church...was all a complete and total waste. You are wasting your time on this planet and in this life...
The mob killed Joseph Smith in part because he was marrying young girls in the community and he married wives of other mormons. He never publicly preached polygamy while he was alive although he practiced it. He also burned a printing press owned by ex-mormons because they were disclosing the fact that he was a fraud. Did you know many of the witnesses to the golden plates (who signed the affidavits) left the church? The list goes on and on. Research your own church. Heck, just read doctrines and covenants from page one forward. That in itself is an eye opener. Then learn about his translation of the book of abraham.
Your facts are not quite straight. The mob that broke into Liberty Jail and killed Joseph and Hyrum Smith was made up mostly of Missourians who came to Illinois to finish the job of killing the Mormons they started earlier in Missouri. The Book of Mormon witnesses that left the church NEVER denied seeing the Book of Mormon or the angel that showed them the plates. In fact, all of them are on the record many times in reiterating their testimony of the book. If they left the church, why would they have any motivation whatsoever to keep stating, as you suggest, a falsehood? In fact the opposite would make more sense. Another unfortunate fact you leave out of your truth-starved comment is that two of the three witnesses returned to full fellowship in the church and moved to Utah with the rest of the Mormons. The third – John Whitmer, testified in Court just prior to his death that he actually saw an angel, who showed him the Book of Mormon. Doesn't quite fit in with what you want to believe, does it?
Regarding polygamy, their is no doubt that Joseph was a polygamist. Interesting facts however are left out of your comments. First, there is no known descendant of Joseph Smith other than through his first wife, Emma Smith. This has been tested using DNA analysis. If he was such a philanderer, where are all the offspring? Second, if he was such a lascivious scoundrel, why did the vast majority of the Mormons living in Nauvoo continue to support him, and move west with the main body of the Mormons to Utah? Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? Context is everything – soundbites are nothing.
Those who truly live in the spirit of the man named Jesus whom some believed was the christ, are currently praying for the soul of Osama Bin Laden and hoping for the best for all of his loved ones.
The LDS church sends 50,000 kids a year around the world to tell them that the LDS is the true church and claim to be doing God's work. I suggest that LDS members learn about the history of their own church, research the "translation" of the book of Abraham and the papyrus discovered in a new york museum in 1967 and I'm called anti-mormon. I'm only trying to encourage LDS members to learn the truth, just as all of their missionaries do.
For years the LDS church taught that the North American indians were descendants of a tribe from Israel. (research it). They don't say that anymore. Why? DNA testing shows the American Indians came from Asia. Read the old Doctrines and Covenants – that is some crazy talk. But you never hear any of that anymore. In short, the LDS church is so embarassed about its past that it won't talk about it, and its members know very little about the church's history. That is why the mormons on this board call everybody "anti-mormon." They think its anti-mormon but truth is some of the statements about the church's history are spot on. They just don't know it.
Anyone who reads the Book of Mormon knows that it suggests that there were Jewish people living on the American continent somewhere. While it provides clues as to where this was, there are no specific references to any geography known to us. This is similar to many of the stories in the Bible and other ancient texts that are difficult to place in terms of geography. Many of the early Mormons felt that these stories alluded to the Native Americans living in North America, including Joseph Smith. However, when reports and pictures of an archeaological expedition to Central America made their way to the Mormon city of Nauvoo, Joseph Smith stated that he felt (did not know) that this is where many of the stories in the Book of Mormon took place.
The DNA testing never confirmed the Native Americans came from Asia. That type of testing is extremely difficult because of the vastness of the human genome. There are many professional views on where the Native Americans came from based on modern scientific studies. However, if you want some archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon, look into the information about the city of Nahom in the Arabic Peninsula. You'll find it very interesting that the Book of Mormon describes that as the burial place of Ishmael (1 Nephi 16:34). That place did not show up in maps or other materials during Joseph Smith's time. That he could have guessed the name of a burial place in the southern Arabic peninsula and have it later discovered by archeologists is astronomical. There's a good video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6MVOV92cuA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
There is only one to thankful lol
We know that for every "TRUTH" there are 1000 lies! We have known this for over 40years, and I see nothing has changed. Ignorance may be bliss but, "Intelligence is the Glory of GOD"
That's actually Ignorance is the Gloy of God.
Just so you know.....intelligent folks don't believe in make believe ghosts, flying zombies, magic seer stones, or any of that other garbage you believe:)
What about the kinderhook plates? Any LDS person know about those? A group of local farmers played a joke on Joseph Smith. Said they found some old plates buried under a tree stump. Actually, the farmers made the plates. Joseph Smith "translated" the plates and published the translation in his paper – not kidding. One of the plates is in a museum somewhere and it has been established the plates were a fraud. Problem is, LDS church members won't believe this and definately will not research it. So, if you won't research the statements you claim are "anti-mormon" then how do you know?
You have no clue what you are talking about. Read and understand the history before you spew out garbage. He never translated the Kinderhook plates, and no translation was ever published. The exact opposite of what you are saying is actually what happened. He looked at the Kinderhook plates, and thought they looked interesting. But after his initial fascintation, he never displayed any interest in them whatsoever, and they were returned to their original owners (fabricators), who were eagerly awaiting a "translation" which never occurred so that they could denounce Joseph Smith. Their grand scheme failed to their dismay.
Did anyone ever think that the mormon "religion" wouldn't be made fun of so much if it just wasn't so darn funny!!!! I'm not sure what's more hilarious, the stories in the BM (Book of Mormom or Bowel Movement...sme thing) or the fact that people actually believe them.
I researched the LDS church extensively in the 1980's. I read only LDS publications – a lot of history. When I discussed this with my LDS friends (I lived in Salt Lake and was engaged to a mormon) I found out most of them knew very little about the church's history and about statements made by the prophets over the years, changes to the book of mormon, the fact that the papyrus used by Joseph Smith to translate the book of Abraham was found in a library in NYC and had nothing to do with Abraham, etc. It is mostly a cultural group. With the advent of the internet many mormons are learning about their church's beliefs on the sly and leaving. Many are still afraid to read any "anti-mormon" literature. For the LDS followers learning about the church's past ends up leading many right out the door. If you are happy in the churc, don't research. If you have questions, their is a way out . . . just start researching. Reading about the translation of the Book of Abraham is a great place to start.
Yes. The Tanners were also church historians and discovered all of this already. Each point has been refuted time and time again ad nausea. There is more than one side to things.
When I was 15 years old my friends from school invited me to go to their church. Our family had been to many different churches, there was always something missing, for the spirit of God was not there in those other churches. From a very young age I have always been "in tune" and spiritually aware of God, and Jesus Christ, and the spiritual inner testimony that confirms GOD to each of us. I had thought it was the same with all other people, that how could they NOT know of GOD? At the time we went to the church that my friends invited us too, The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, my mom, stepfather, sister, and brother. From the moment I walked into the church I felt God's spirit, and I knew we were in the right place. That was 41 years ago. I have faced many trials and tribulations in my life, and yet I have never lost my faith in GOD or the truthfulness to the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ set an example for us to follow and the keys of the priesthood were given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, who was preordained in heaven, just as all prophets are preordained in heaven. GOD never has abandoned us, yes we are faced with choices and trails in life, that is why we are here; so he gave us a way to communicate, through his prophets and spiritual leaders. It doesn't matter what has happened in my life, or what has brought me to this place and time, or that I am the only active member from my family. I have studied many different subjects over the years, and continue to do so. Including our churches history both temporal and spiritual. I have regrets as to not marrying a good LDS man instead of a METHODIST who destroyed our family, and hurt our daughter. There are many sacred aspects of being a good clean Christian. Yes, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS are "CHRISTIANS" there will always be non believers and who cast stones and lies at us. We know this, but remember if GOD gives us commandments and rules to follow, regardless of what those rules are( like the D&C guidelines of certain other races until GOD has said when to let them hold the priesthood; then so be it.) We all were so happy when in 1970's when the revelation was received of our prophet that it was time for the black members to receive the priesthood, it was a joyous time, and continues to be so, with sacred Temples in Africa so the loyal members who had waited so long could receive their many blessings from GOD. Mankind is on GOD's timetable and schedule, not God on ours. It is up to him what we receive in the way of knowledge. Mankind think they are so superior to all else, and yet pay no respect to where they received the knowledge in the first place, and there is so much more we do NOT know. We have yet to learn more, and some things will never be known until we pass to the spiritual world where GOD is, and then we will continue to learn. The blessings are there for all those who want to know more of GOD, and the sacrifice Jesus Christ has made for ALL MANKIND. "YOU" have the right to chose right or wrong! However, do not trash what you do not know, due to your choices or ignorance. The Pearl of Great Price said it perfectly, " do not cast your pearls before swine" The pearls are GOD's sacred words and guidelines, the "swine are the non-believers who would trash HIS words!
I believe that you are out of your mind.....from a very young age you have been "in tune" with god??? No, you're just a child who never grew up and still believes in fairy tales. Christians, mormons, catholiics, jews, muslims....you're all the same. You're all crazy and you're all extremely vain to think that there is some way and reason that you should live forever.
You're here for a short time, then you're dead. Learn to deal with it and make the best of it.
Ahh...the Mormons. So much fun to laugh at. They are the gift that keeps on giving.
Wow, you people find it so easy to bash members of the LDS.. Same cowards who say nothing about muslims who burn churches & kill Christians across the world... Make a play about Islam. See if you have the balls for that!!
Mormens are Christians. Show some solidarity!
Actually, the South Park guys (who also wrote the musical in question) have done several episodes mocking Islam in much the same manner, and faced death threats as a result. Say what you will, but they are equal opportunity offenders of ALL religion, and this argument that they pick on Mormons because they're afraid of Muslims just doesn't hold water.
The LDS is a CULT. That is a fact you sad brainwashed people. I feel very sorry for you.
You're wrong. By definition, all small organizations led by one person are a cult. However, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has moved well beyong the cult status, having members in just about every country of the world, totalling over 14.1 million members.
As a member of the church I assure you Warren Jeffs is a Mormon. You are the one needing to check your facts. But as a braainwashed cuultest you are afraid to hear or learn the truth. Do an internet search on cuuuullltttwaaatttcchhh. It has a very large section dedicated to the LDS.
You're wrong, Warren Jeffs is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His church is known as the FLDS.
In looking back over these posts, I see almost none about the play, and many about Mormons. Those fall almost entirely into two categories. Let's call them category #1, and category #2. Judging from the tone of the category #1 comments, in comparison to the tone of the category #2 comments, I'd say that this play has become a fine tool, though this forum, for making it clear to anyone with a shred of honesty that the category #1 people are pretty disgusting human beings, and the category #2 people may be bumbling and naive but the basically decent people. Kind of ironic, on a couple of levels.
Hey, wasn't Osama a mormon?
I get more spiritual revelations from LSD than from LDS.
Here is one for the antis. I knew within one hour of meeting with missionaries that Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That the Book of Mormon is true. Of the prophetic call of our current prophet. The Priesthood has been restored. The Holy Ghost filled the entire room and everyone in it. Now you explain that away. you never can and I will believe whatever they tell me whenever they do because Christ leads this church through a prophet. You are lead by opinion and dislike and false teachings. Exactly of what you accuse us.
I hope this was meant to be a joke...because it is HILARIOUS!!!!
Holy Spirit filled the room?!??!
A flying zombie who rose from the dead and flew up into heaven 2,000 years ago decides to come down and speak to a few of you white guys?!?!?!
I'm sure he told you to have many wives andmake sure to keep the blacks out of power positions!!!!
What a simple, sad people.....
It still amazes me how in the 21st century, there are still so many people who fall for the fairy tales of Joseph Smith. I am sure he wasn't counting on science making enough progress to uncover his frauds, but unfortunately it did, Genetics shows his alternative American history is bogus, and his supposed translation skills were a farce. And yet people keep being suckered into believing stuff that is plainly wrong. If Joseph Smith had told you the earth was flat, would you keep believing it is, in the face of the fact you can fly around it?
So for that did he deserve to be killed like Osama BL?
mormons are tards.
@Bryan, do us all a favor and shut up. You are just like one of those stupid brain washed kids who show up at my door telling me I am not getting into heaven because I am not a mormon.
Sorry you feel that way, I actually believe your salvation is between you and your God.
So It is apparent that most of you have no idea what you are talking about. I suggest that you guys get your heads out of your a–es and actually TRY to do some research before you start spouting that inane prattle that oozes out of your mouths. Stop relying on stereotypes and myths and actually do some research. That not only goes for this topic but for anything you blithering idiots post about.
Mormons are the most bigoted, judgmental people I have known. I was a mormon for 26 years and I graduated from BYU. Do NOT ask a missionary about the mormon church because I also served a 2 yr mission. It is a facade, folks. It's a numbers game. Convert, convert, convert. They prey on people who are at the lowest point in their lives. Most members don't even know what a scoundrel Joseph Smith was because when you are a mormon you aren't allowed to read such things! To answer the question whether I am against the mob that killed Joseph Smith, yes I am. Had he lived, I think the religion would have fizzled out or his ego would have destroyed it. His death propelled it forward, unfortunately. And as far as respecting other religions, it is not respecting the Jewish faith to do baptisms for the dead for Holocaust victims, so that they could be saved in the "one true church." I have tickets for this play in June – I can't wait to see it.
ah yes, the disgruntled mormon diatribe. Missionaries do not prey on the down low. Missionaries are taught to uplift and help. I'm not sure where you served, but you have a very narrow understanding. The prophet always has encouraged members to study out and pray about any doctrine they find. I"ve never been discouraged to read or research, in fact, it has been the exact opposite. Regarding holocaust baptisms, the church respected their wishes and no longer performs this ordinance. For being a member for 26 years, you sure don't know very much about the church.
I'm the original poster (don't know why the other guy took my name). You are brainwashed. I know you don't see it. You have been taught from a young age through primary songs, seminary, scouting, etc etc etc what to think and what to parrot back to "non-members". As a matter of fact, sometimes you don't get to think at all. When the prophet speaks, the thinking is done. I have researched for years. It was heartbreaking for me to realize that the church I had been raised in was a scam. I WANTED it to be true. My guess is you have had your doubts too, but it is too scary to look deeply. It's not easy to leave the mormon church. Doing the right thing is not always easy.
Speaking of Parroting, you sound exactly like Sean MCraney...lol.
and another thing, if the thinking is done when the prophet speaks, how come I don't always agree with him?
I too grew up Mormon, served a mission, as a bishop etc....then I studied the real history of Joseph Smith, I learned that he sought out teenage girls, married other mens wives, lied about the Kirtland Bank, and that about every point of his story is clouded with controversy. So I asked myself is God a God of confusion and contradiction.....no....I have never felt more free to think freely with out the cloud of Mormon thinking. All that said, the Mormon faith does a lot of good in the world! They help the poor, those in need, they tend after their own, and I have never met a happier bunch of people....and I dont live in Utah or the west, so I see a good cross section of religious and non-religious folk. For all you mormons who are reading this, read "Insiders View of Mormonism from Grant Palmer, No man knows my history by Fawn Brodie, also read the Journal of Discourses and ask your self if those men were really prophets of God. Rough Stone Rolling is also a good book but could have written same book in about half the words...very wordy (similar to my post)
I have never met someone who lived the way the LDS faith teaches, and then left because they no longer believed, and subsequently found more happiness somewhere else. It's because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's church. It is where people learn how to live in a way that results in happiness. The happiness is unavoidable when you choose to honestly and humbly live a Christlike life and promise God to do your best. That happiness is just ascertain as the lack of it for ignoring God and living according to your own will. It is true that learning about Christ and what he says he can do for us, and what we can do to follow him and find happiness works every time, for everyone. That is the core of Mormon doctrine.
The early LDS church was extremely anti american. Most moved to Utah so they could practice polygamy and pedopheeliaa.
You're wrong. They were driven out of the state. Many were killed and persecuted, women and children as well. Governor Boggs wrote and extermination order. 100's died crossing the plains, women and children too. Apparently you'll never understand.
Early mormons did not consider themselves christians. they considered christians as outlanders and murdered them. look it up on the internet. Brigham Young even supported the slaughter of non mormons. Just a fact.
You're wrong. They were trying to defend themselves and took it waaay to far. It was not a fact that the early mormons killed innocent people because they were not mormon.
@Bryan, do us all a favor and shut up. And yea I am for the mob that killed Joseph ( the Liar ) Smith. Mormons are so full of crap. I dated one for a few years and even read the book of Mormon. Her family was a nut case. And if one more stupid kid shows up at my door and tells me I am going to hell because I am not mormon I am going to shove that stupid book up his ass. I have no problems with mormons, just leave me the hell alone and dont push your bs religion on people who dont want it.
John, Why are you for the mob? Did Joseph deserve to die for lying?
What am I pushing? I'm just asking a question.
I'd wager that neither you nor anyone else has ever had Mormon missionaries show up at your doorstep and tell you that you are going to hell. That's not how they operate, ever. Maybe the J-W's, but not the Mormons. The Mormon missionaries would politely introduce themselves and ask if they could share a message with you about Jesus Christ.
Sorry, pal, but you're little tirade holds no water. You've got issues, buddy.
I don't know anything about the Momons or LD Saints Church except Jimmer and BYU basketball; I've talked to a few Elders years ago when they were witnessing in my neighborhood but what I'd like to know is why do the actors of color in the above photo of the Book of Momon play not wearing name tags on their shirts or blouses like the white actors are? Just curious.
Try to live it. You'll find that you're happy and hopeful.
If you've actually seen the Musical (Book of Mormon) – you'd know that they really aren't making fun of Mormons, they actually treat the religion with respect and fascination more than anything. Yes, the lyrics are crude and the jokes are SouthPark worthy – but the message is actually one of acceptance and yes – in the end – they convert all of the Uganda village to their faith. I was very impressed with the fact that the musical in no way implied that the mormons were wrong, going to hell, not christians, etc. etc. they poked fun at some of the beliefs – but in a good natured, not mean spirited way. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and award worthy. Not at all hate-worthy. This thread seems like a lot of people just read a little bit of info about the show and developed some very strong opinions. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. See the play before you pass judgment.
ever heard of warren jeffs ? mormon fbi top 10 most wanted.
Uh, hate to burst your bubble of ignorance, but Warren Jeffs is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. May want to check your facts.
BTW, the FBI has a large, and I mean large, proportion of Mormons as agents. May want to check your facts.
Sorry, wrong church but nice try.
@Untruth. right on. There are a lot of Mormon agents.
I am saddened by the bigotry shown here. We dont care what our neighbors believe – but as Americans we defend their right to believe it, right? Oh wait. Maybe not. If they are Jewish and we yell bigoted things at them, its anti-semitism. If they are Muslim and we desecrate their holy book, then it's a hate crime. But if they're LDS... Well, then i guess it's ok, right? NOT! Such bigotry has our founding fathers turning in their graves. If you want to be a part of the mob who throws (metaphorical) stones, how do you justify that? If you profess to be Christian, yet show such bigotry and hatred to your own LDS brothers and sisters, do you also believe that you'll answer for your own actions in whatever your vision of 'Final Judgement' is? I wish there were more people today with the integrity to say to themselves, "They're just people, and while i dont agree with their beliefs, i dont have to degrade them, or spread lies about them". How would it be if we laid aside the hypocrisy that makes it ok to have a double-standard when it comes to Mormons?
Nicely put, E.
I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I'm saddened by the hatred on this page. But apparently it comes from a place of ignorance and intolerance, so I shall not be offended. Just saddened.
Hey Matt-you are right. Mormons don't believe that Jesus was or is God, literally speaking. He is the Son of God. So now what say ye???
Well Jesus says he is God, identifies himself as God on many occasions. So who is lying, you or Jesus?
None of this discussion is about the musical. It. Was. Hysterical. They use the Mormon religion to make fun of all religions' ridiculous claims, but then they use more hilarity to show how even ridiculous faith stories can bring comfort to people. The music was great, the performances were great, and the play was, like all South Park products, right on the money as far as social commentary. Genius!
Ignorance is bliss. Such attacks are Christian?
Mormons need to have a sense of humor about this and just enjoy the fact that they're getting all this press. Sure the play doesn't get everything right— and I don't think it would claim to. These guys are the South Park guys after all—no big surprise that their show doesn't appeal to most Mormons. It's satire. It makes fun of religion in general through the Mormon world view.
Part of the problem is that LDS and other believers can't admit that their beliefs appear crazy to the rest of the world. Joseph Smith himself said "I don't blame anyone for not believing my history, as if I had not experienced what I have, I would not believe it myself." Admitting it's all a little weird is not only healthy, it is much more fun.
LDS need to lighten up and realize that one man's sacred cow is another mans lunch. Parker and Stone's views are likely biased in their views but then so are the views of most Mormons in favor of the faith. Heck you might even learn something about your own faith by — for once — looking at it with and outside point of view. Just a thought.
Next musical will be the Book of Scientology. Or, the Book of Wacko. They are all cults. I just hope Mormanism isn't linked to Christianity.
I love the idea that Christians get hung up on trying to define whether or not Mormons are Christian. Who cares? If Mormons want to self-identify as Christian what does it matter to you? It reminds me of people who try and define what makes someone a "real American" . Anything that doesn't fit their narrow definition is not included.
It's a lot like how Salt Lake City Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) say that FLDS are not Mormons— despite the fact that both religions come from the same roots, use the same scriptures and hymns, have very similar governance and a number of the same doctrines etc. In fact, the FLDS practice a religion closer to that of Joseph Smith than the SL hierarchy currently does. Ironic.
The larger majority always tries to marginalize or reject the unwanted minority. It's religion.
and you are marginalizing the LDS religion. that would make you a hypocrite. Woops!
@ comment above:
Apparently you need to look up the words "marginalize" and "hypocrite" — your comment shows that you understand the meaning of neither.
Obviously though you disagree with my comment. I would love to know specifically what exactly you disagree with. Do you not think that majority religions marginalize minority sects? They do. Do you not think that FLDS qualify as Mormon? If so you have little knowledge of the many religions that grew out of Joseph Smith's original movement. Do you not agree that the FLDS practice a religion closer to Nauvoo and early Utah Mormonism than what the SLC Church is doing now? If so you need to do your home work. Polygamy, sealings to underage girls, consecration of property, priesthood ban on blacks, millennialist views etc. Truth is Warren Jeffs is closer to Joseph Smith's religion than Thomas S. Monson.
You can call names...whatever. What would really be interesting is if you actually provided some info to support your claims. Otherwise you just sound defensive and offended.
PS: I was raised Mormon too.
:( The only thing that seemed to be not worth listing to you was lighting design. :(
Okay! So we know many of you hate Joseph Smith, but a question remains for you to answer. Are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
I am for your mother, this much i know!
Hey Matt, you, along with all other mormon-bashers are bullies. Did the Lord ever bully anyone? No! But He was bullied for all that he stood for and Was. You are no different than persecutors of any age. You WOULD be in the mob that killed Joseph Smith.
Then call me Mr. Mob!
Bryan, your question has absolutely nothing to do with any comments here. Just because I'm not Mormon and might think that their beliefs are a little nutty doesn't automatically mean I would agree with the murder of the man who founded the religion, just as I would think that non-Christians (specifically, non-Catholics) would have no strong position for or against the crucifixion of Saint Peter.
I should mention that I have several friends who are Mormon, and they are some of the nicest people I know. Doesn't mean I want to become one, though.
Dorothy, I love and respect people like you! You're awesome! I ask the question because it's interesting to ask someone so filled with hate that they can't think strait. They literally want to kill. Hate leads to bloodshed. Contention is it's own hell.
Mormons are Christians. We belong to The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. Believing in Jesus Christ and trying to follow his perfect example, is that not considered Christian?
Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God. You are not Christians
Stephanie, please count how many times the name of Jesus Christ is used at your church services this weekend. In fact, do this for a month or two. Just because Jesus Christ is in the name doesn't mean it is the correct Jesus Christ. Jesus is God, always has been God, always will be God. He was never a spirit baby or brothers with satan. He was nothing less than God. That same God hung on a tree for the sins of the world. Islam talks of Jesus Christ too but just like Mormonism, it isnt the same Jesus of the Bible.
Sharon, arguing with people of different beliefs is pointless. Your belief's are yours alone and your facts you state on Mormonism are way off. The Book of Mormon is about the untold history of the populating of the western hemisphers and specifically Jesus's coming to the Western Hemisphere after his crucified. It is all about a second testimony to Jesus Christ, the very same Jesus in the Bible. This is the main tenant of Mormonism, a second witness to Christ. My beliefs are different than both yours and Mormonism and are mine as well as many others, they may overlap in agreement in some places, but when they don't agree trying to disprove someone else's belief and faith is pointless. It's like me trying to convert you to be an Agnostic from your religion. Proclaiming the truth in a belief system is one of faith, faith is what you have, faith in your beliefs. So do the Mormons, the Catholics, the Jews, the Muslims, the Hindus, the Lutherans, the Methodists, the Baptists..... How long shall we make a list of religions that believe their way of thinking is the only truth? Truth and Love are universal. Apply it. But keep your faith as a personal belief not to be imposed on others. The ill feelings it creates among people of different religions is far worse than accepting them as human beings, brothers and sisters who share the same world as you do.
@ash . . .I'm a Mormon. A convert Mormon. Ponder that for a minute. After many months of investigation, I decided to join on my own, not because I had been brainwashed by my 'Elders'. No leader has ever told me how to vote. In the church you'll find all political persuasions. "Hushed up misery"? . . . I'm as happy as ever! Best move I've ever made. Are we talking about the same church? Just goes to show: people see what they want to see regardless of the facts.
One of the best proofs of the truth found in the gospel of Jesus Christ is the happiness experienced by those who humbly and honestly try to live according to its teachings. It is a proof that brings an understanding that cannot be given to someone else, but is readily available to each and every person who is willing to try to live it.
John 7:17 – "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."
Nobody can honestly say Mormonism doesn't produce exactly what it claims (i.e. happiness for those willing to live a Christlike life) unless they have tried themselves and been left wanting.
On a serious note, why are so many Mormons on the FBIs 10 most wanted list ? Other than Islamic radicals there are no more frequent guest of this list than mormons. If there arent any on there right now there will be another popping up soo for practicing their friendly religion : )
Funny... I don't know of any morons that are in the FBI's most wanted list. Please enlighten. us.
Aw, Ken the Mormon...stop being a LDS puppet. It's annoying. Mormons are NOT Christians. It's only been in the last 15 yrs or so that you'd even hear a LDS member talk like that. "We're Christians, too!" Um, no. You're not.
As a Mormon, I can say I am a Christian, but why do I need to say it when the name of my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, says it. One can argue as much as they want, but Mormons believe in Jesus Christ as their savior and redeemer and that is enough to prove Mormons are Christians.
WOW! There sure is A LOT of ignorance here. I was a very devout Mormon (lived and breathed Mormonism in Provo, UT and in SC) for the first 28 years of my life – even took missionary training. I'm now 39 and no longer believe the Mormon faith (now attend non-denomination church); I can tell you, however, that Mormons are in fact Christians – they recognize Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior – last time I checked, that makes them Christian. And, I was NEVER told who to vote for, that black people are evil, or that I can drink Red Bull but not Coffee! lol.. I'm not sure where a lot of you are getting your information from, but it doesn't seem like good sources! lol.. It has always been so funny to come across people who think they know all about Mormonism and actually tries to argue the Mormon beliefs with another Mormon.
I’m not here to argue the Mormon beliefs with anyone, because I no longer believe them, BUT the statement about Mormons not being Christian just made me laugh right out loud. I grew up with a picture of Jesus Christ over the family mantel – yeah, I guess my mother hung it there because we didn’t recognize him as our God! Lol..
Common sense is, if you want to know the truth about something go straight to the source – a GOOD source. It seems you are all taking small facts/statements and forming your own opinion without taking it deeper first. Mormonism can get pretty deep, and just because someone is Mormon doesn’t mean they know all the deep facts either. Best to ask a missionary, a leader of the church, or someone who has taken the training.
And seriously people, don’t judge the entire Mormon religion on a small group of people you once knew! I once knew a bunch of crazy Catholics and Pentecostals, but I’m smart enough to know I can’t form an opinion on the entire religion just by that small group of people.
We must protect the Mystical Secrets of The Mormon Book of Truth. Our mothership awaits.
Imposter Thomas, are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
Lucky for the South Park boys there wasn't a musical out about a child raping priest or Bush as an idiot
Aa an Elder I command thee to reveal no more secrets to the naysayers. If they desire knowledge of THE BOOK they must aquire it as our forefathers did. They must go to the HOLY TABERNACLE and speaketh into the hat of truth.
It's people like you that make this "free country" not seem so free to some of us. You have no idea what you are saying but yet, you're talking out of your ass. Study up the Mormon faith, get a degree in theology or something, then you'll end up eating your words because most religions believe some crazy things. Thank you.
All religions and dieties are inferior to the flying spaghetti monster.
So true. Bless his noodle appendages
Wow, stunned by the bigotry here. Mormons are no more crazy in their beliefs than Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, Muslims, Hindu's, or Obama lovers for that matter. Take a look at what you believe, just because it might be 2000 years old (or even older) doesn't mean its true, and perhaps just because its 200 years young (or younger) doesn't mean its false. I think we'll all find out when we kick the bucket so until then, lets show some respect for each other.
Yer right. It's all pretty crazy.
People need to just admit that and quit pretending that you can logically support such belief. Certainly the only way to maintain belief it is a position of faith.
@Lavonya, LOL!!! Good one!!!
I think it's up to the person as to who or how they worship – as long as they don't injure anybody. I've lived amongst Mormons for a long, long time. They do exactly as they are told by the Elders. Even vote as they are told. Believe all the political and other lies they are told to believe. (Unless they are "Jack Mormons"). Church of Latter Day False Prophets. That 'church' – sect – causes countless lives of hushed-up misery. As for the good works they do – terrific but one doesn't have to be a Mormon to help people, here in the US or overseas.
Yes...I know many Mormons and it never ceases to amaze me how proud those LDS folks are of their good deeds. We do this, we do that, we help, we invest, we stock up food, we blah-blah-blah... Fine. Do your good works but keep it to yourself! How about some humility?!
We do not do as we are told. We have a choice in all things. It would be wise to get some facts before you talk false things.
You said: "We do not do as we are told. We have a choice in all things."
Isn't it true though that obedience and conformity is paramount in Mormonism. The mantra "Follow the Prophet" is taught and repeated continually. Isn't it true that believing LDS who 'choose' to go against the Brethren are not seen as worthy as those who obey. Isn't it true in fact that the Church measures faithfulnes by how well LDS "do as they are told" and how well they bring their actions in line with what the leaders say?
Mormons are told they can choose what they do but they are assured that if they choose something other than what the Brethren teach they are going against God and will be miserable etc. In the end most LDS do their best to fall in line— if not out of fear of not following God then out of fear of being labeled less-valiant, unworthy or worst of all apostate. How much free choice is there really under fear of reprisals? If the indoctrination results in everyone 'choosing' to follow the prophet, how much choice is there really?
Mormonism? I thought it was Morrismonism after The Lizard King...Hmmf
I too am saddened by the astounding bigotry, mockery, and ignorance concerning the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have known many "Mormons" in my life and found them to be decent, honest, hard-working people. Their underwear is not my business, nor yours. I find it interesting you don't ridicule other religions who wear their robes, etc. for all to see, but mock Mormons for their sacred beliefs which they do not flaunt or wear for show. Anyway, the so-called "tolerance" often screamed about and demanded by those on the Left is astoundingly absent when it comes to respecting Mormons (or anyone, for that matter, who does not agree with the Left agenda and amorality).
Grow up. Open your mind. Befriend a Mormon. You will be better for it.
The fact that they are decent and hard working does not prevent them from believing insanely strange stuff.
I did befriend Mormons. And they were my friends until I said no to their constant barrage of conversion requests. As soon as I put my foot down and said that no, I had no interest in converting to Mormonism, their friendship vanished. Their "milk before meat" and constant push that "you're not praying hard enough" to get the affirmative answer that their Book of Mormon is true is annoying. Yes, they have a right to believe what they want. They're free to believe anything they want. But Mormons have no boundaries in respecting others' statements where they say "no, I don't believe your book is true."
Melissa: I would suggest you didn't have a "friend"... I have hundreds of relationships that I have yet attempted a gospel discussion about the specifics of my religion. My friendship is not predicated on acceptance of my beliefs.
Your scenerio seems to be a shallow attempt at friendship.
Mormons are funny !
"Now, we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might now the things that are freely given to us of God.
"Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
"But, the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; neither can they know them, because they are spiritually discerned." – 2 Corinthians, The Holy Bible
Think about it people... especially those who already believe in Christ. If you want the to understand 'Mormonism', I suggest you contact the Missionaries in your area. Much of your bigotry and hatred may be put to rest if you do.
You're exactly right! The New Testament teaches this same true principle in John 1:5
"And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
Christ himself experienced the same ridicule because darkness does not ever understand light. Those who are truly enlightened, however, understand and embrace it.
AMEN! I pray for the Momons, which I love so dearly, to come to know the Jesus of the Bible. There is nothing that can compare to Him.
IT IS NOT A DOODY STAIN ! It is a racing stripe ! Some of us Mormons like to customize our undergarments that way.
Just what the world needs, more stereotyping, bigotry, etc. Some of the posters here seem to be very good at spreading it.
I'm sad to see my religion mocked. This is absolutely awful that they are taking a holy book and desecrating it.
Anyone who believes a bronze-age carpenter died so they could get access to a better afterlife, deserves to be mocked. Anyone who believes said carpenter was in the US at some point, deserves to be mocked mercilessly.
Did you post a similar message when Terry Jones burned the Koran?
Steve, I think your mom is calling that you wet your bed again.
They're "desecrating" a holy book?
You don't even know what the show is about. Your post is worthless, and we are dumber for having read it. Get off the internet.
Steve, did you know that there have been THOUSANDS of changes to the Book of Mormon which Joseph Smith claimed to be the "most perfect book ever written." We aren't talking about changes in punctuation either. Joseph claimed that he did more than any man that ever lived including Jesus. That is blasphemous! Jesus is God and creator of the Universe! Not a man that became a god after doing good things. Joseph Smith also claimed that there were men, who dressed like Quakers and lived on the moon and that they were all uniform in size, about 6 feet and lived to be 1,000 years old. Joseph had 34 wives 2 of them were only 14!
Sharon, sorry to say, but you are wrong on so many levels. 1) Joseph Smith never said that there were Quakers on the moon. Those references were from the journal of a guy that died 50 years after Joseph Smith and from his other writings it was clear that he was suffering from dementia at the time. Yes, Joseph was commanded as the Prophet to practice polygamy. Abraham, Issac, they all did it too. 14 was not really young to be getting married 170 years ago. Heck my grandparents were 16. And again you pass on lies in that there have not been many changes to the Book of Mormon.
These comments show me that none of you know anything about the Latter-day Saints (a.k.a. Mormonism).
Galatians 1: 8-9 tells me everything I need to know about your "religion."
That's the same gospel that was fully restored through Joseph Smith.
Check out http://www.lds.org or http://www.mormon.org
Janao, the problem with bringing up this scripture is that the "gospel" taught today by modern christianity is not the same gospel that Paul taught to the Galatians. Ian is rigth on track. What the Mormons teach today is the restored gospel that Christ and the apostles taught in ancient times.
Ian and Matt, you have sadly been deceived by the Mormon church. Why would God let His Word be corrupted for hundreds of years?! The Word didn't need to be restored, it was already perfect. The Bible warns of following false christs and of false prophets.
I meant Ian and Anne, Matt's verses are appropriate and I fully agree.
Matt, I laugh every time someone uses Gal 1: 8-9 as a reason the LDS church is not true. Read the verse please. In no way does a visitation from an angel automatically make a church false. And the gospel the LDS teaches is identical to that which was taught by Christ. Clearly you are following like lemmings of some misguided "teacher"
Thank you for this. It's sad that Mormons are being mocked when they do so much good in Africa.
Janao, are you high? Mormons subjugate and convert the African masses to their warped belief system. Helping people shouldn't be predicated on some faith based BS agenda. You must be a mormon jacka$$.
How To Succeed in Business! I saw that last week, and it was AWESOME! John Laroquette definitely deserves the nomination! As for the book of mormon costume nomination... aren't they just wearing slacks and ties, and collared shirts...?
Aaaaaahh Pay no attention to Bob. He is just talking outta his hat.
Sue, are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
Wish I had one o them cool hats like Frosty the Snowman and Joe Smith had !
James, are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
THAT JOSEPH SMITH WAS ONE WIIIIIIIIIIILD AND CRAAAAAAAAZY GUY !
I meant holey.
Spoken like a true dumba$$
They are all just talking out of a hat.
The LDS faith is growing in proportions that other faiths and religions could only wish to state. So either there doing something right or those to seek to destroy or demise this faith plant seeds of doubts for those who question the churches ideology. In the end sometimes ones ignorance is another gain. As I see from the Church itself shows like this are only given the Church a added bonus in people staring to ask questions and then studying for themselves of the church origins. I bet in some ways the Missionaries and men who go door to door for this church and reaping the rewards of this type of shows and ignorance of those to seek to bring dwn this church.
Joseph Smith was a false prophet. The Bible gives instructions on how to test if a prophet is from God or not: You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him. Deuteronomy 18:21-22 Mr. Smith had MANY failed prophecies but Mormons are told not to investigate for it may weaken their "testimonies". If it is the truth, then any evidence found will not destroy a testimony. The Bible also says that the heart is deceitful above all things and not to rely on your "feelings" Jeremiah 17:9 Mormonism is all about feelings. Mormonism worships a different God/Jesus than Biblical Christians. I ask Mormons if they believe in God and Satan? If God gave His word in the Bible, what would Satan say to try to discount the Bible? That it has been translated incorrectly and that it isn't truth. That is what Mormonism claims. I love Mormons and pray that they will read the Bible like a child and come to know the real Jesus, who was and always has been God, who created the universe. No man can become god. Jesus said that if you seek the truth, you will find it and the truth will set you free. "Heaven and earth will pass away my My Words will never Pass away" Jesus in Luke 21:33
Live and let live. Religion has a tendency to pit man against man. Who are we to judge anyone's faith? I am a former Mormon, excommunicated no less. Yet I still value the teachings and values instilled in me, not much different than any other religion, good is good, evil is evil, you will know them by their fruits to use a well worn analogy. If you want to get all zealous in your belief system just remember it isolates you from the world and prevents you from experiencing the many great teachings and understandings that are universal in life. Are we one as a people of this Earth? Imagine all the people just getting along. Believe what you will, but all the people you see around you, black, white, brown, yellow, are far more important to the future of the world than converting them to your belief system which reinforces your belief and your isolation more. The Mormon culture is a very happy, supporting, loving culture, (again from an excommunicated Mormon), they love their neighbors, the world, and are very diligent in living a good life not meant to harm anyone or anything, give them some space or a handshake of friendship if you are truly loving. When all religions accept other religions only then will we know peace and be one.
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
@Sharon. The scripture in the bible you refer to (Matthew 7:15-20) is a solid indicator that God would again send prophets to guide us, just as he always has throughout history. Why else would He give us a way to identify a true prophet? He wants us to identify truth the same way that Joseph Smith himself came to know the truth, that is, by asking God (James 1:5). Study it out yourself, try to live it, ask God, and experience the "fruits". Then you too will know the truth.
Please, in love, read the 3 verses that follow the ones you thought I was referring to, Matthew 7:20-23. The verses I was reffering to regarding the "test" of a prophet is in Deuteronomy. If one claims to be a prophet from God and is wrong, even once, he wasn't a prophet to begin with. JS had MANY prophecies that never came true and therefore I can say without a doubt, that he was a false prophet and every thing he claimed to receive was a lie. I do have the fruits of the Spirit because I have accepted Christ as my personal Savior. I am saved freely by His grace and not by any works of my own (Ephesians 2:9-9). Praying that you come to know my Savior because he died for your sins, too. Jesus is God he has always been and always will be God. He wasn't Lucifers brother but created Him just like He created all that is in the universe. I pray you will see the truth my dear friend. Isaiah 43:10 “You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. There is one God and no matter how many good "works" one does, he will never become God.
Ken, the Mormon church may not have said anything bad about Jews, but official church doctrine wouldn't allow black people to become priesthood holders until 1978!
Anne, I suppose you haven't even done any research on why have you? Just what anti-moron people have said. Grow up and do some research.
ken the morman. can you explain to me how as a lawer it was ok for your church to fund prop 8 propaganda and still keep their non profit status?? yes the lds may have never spoken out about the jews. how about the gays? i was in california durning the prop 8 rallies and i saw/heard lots of negative things from your church. most of these things were lies. go watch the gathering storm video and then tell me how great and peaceful your church is.
Chris, what research do you want her to do? Read Mormon Doctrine? That is only going to prove her point on early church leadership. What research is there? David O McKay had to form a committee to research whether it was a social decision or from God. One might ask why if he were a prophet, why he just didnt take it up with God...but that is another subject. If she were to go and read Mormon literature, she would get one very narrow side, the "anti's" as you call them actually provide a better picture of what really happened than the white-washed mormon version. I am a mormon, and I have spent many month doing the "research" and have come out of the process feeling....um...taken advantage of....so I would recommend......DO NOT DO the RESEARCH! In Mormonism, Ignorance really is BLISS!
too bad Ken the Mormon...when your church started involving itself deeply in telling others who are not involved with the church how to live their lives, your church opened itself up to whatever those impacted by its meddling care to dish out. I think this play is the least your church and its silly claims deserves.
They deserve to be made fun of? Thats the same reasoning that al qaeda uses for killing Americans, there is no reason other than ignorance and hatred.
What do you believe... I'll start making fun of you because you deserved it.
And it totally makes no sense to people who don't even research solid facts about the church, only crap anti-mormon stuff.
Are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
Belinda, are you for or against the mob that killed Joseph Smith?
I have grown up AND learned to think for myself which is more than I can say for ANY Mormon. .
Chris, sadly, I know more about Mormonism that most Mormons do. Why, because I have studied Mormon history so that I can help Mormons to know the true Jesus of the Bible. Mormon's are told not to do any digging because it would ruin your "testimony". The current mainstream Mormon church is very far from what the original " false prophets" taught. The FLDS church resembles the original teachings. I encourage you to read the Bible, even if it's just the words of Jesus, to find the truth. If you tell Him you want to know the truth, He will reveal it to you if you truthfully seek it.
Way to stereotype. Is that what you learned by thinking for yourself?
Now is that what Jesus would have done? By your tone, I am assuming you are mormon, but regardless of what you are or claim to be, you have obviously missed the point of everything you were taught:)
Atta boy chris, that's what Jesus would have done. Retaliate just by making fun of somebody. For someone who claims to be religious, you fall very, very short of the example jesus set for you.
Did you know the mob killed Joseph Smith in part because he was marrying young girls in the community and he married wives of other mormons.
Hey did you know that there are thousands of anti Mormon sites on the Internet??? Do you know they all have the same stupid arguments??? Did you know there is an answer to each one of your silly arguments??? Here check this link out... It might broaden your lack of meaningful research. http://www.jefflindsay.com/BMEvidences.shtml
I have never met a fellow Mormon who was not absolutely thrilled and relieved when this policy of the church was changed in 1978. Mormons are not racists, at least not the ones that I go to church with.
If it's really the one true church with a living prophet and a direct line to God, don't you think that "black people are evil" is really a significant thing to screw up for so many years?
But if God gave the revelations for the original Book of Mormon (aka the most correct book ever written) why would it be changed in 1978. God doesn't change, people change. If God had really spoken to Joseph Smith then the BOM would be the same now as when it was written. There have been thousands of changes to the book! The Bible has never been changed because it was God's actual revelation to man, and actually was/is perfect.
Sadly, Mormons are taught that the Bible is accurate as long as it's translated correctly. If God says His Word is the Bible, then Satan is going to say that the Bible is corrupt and missing many plain and precious proofs. Mormonism is oposite of Biblical Christianity yet Mormons today say they are Christian because they believe in Jesus. Jews believe that Jesus lived and the Quaran teaches that he did too. The question is not if we say the name of Jesus but who was Jesus? Jesus was/is/always will be/always has been God and He left Heaven and willingly went to the cross for every person that has ever lived. That is love!!
