James Franco to direct dance theater

Just when you thought James Franco had taken a break from all those projects, the everywhere actor picks up another gig. This time, he's making his debut as a dance theater director for the upcoming multimedia show "Collage," reports Gothamist.

"'Collage' is a mixed-media piece that uses sound and visuals to play with the idea of how different art mediums interact," producer John Morrow says of the show, which runs at the Stella Adler studios in NYC from May 8 -15. "Using video, dance, poetry, theater and music, we have created a performance that will be an engaging experience for the audience."

Adds choreographer Chloe Kernaghan, "The overall piece has been a continuous exploration of how using disparate elements can create a cohesive idea."

Besides directing "Collage," the former Oscars host turned University of Houston student—who most recently directed a musical at Yale—will appear live at each performance to narrate the production.

Says actress Nina Ljeti, "The piece is so exhilarating because there are no boundaries to what we can create and play with."

For me, it's not that bad. Anyway, people can be as flexible as capable. Give it a try.

He never directed a musical at Yale. That production was halted before it ever was performed.

  5. James Franco is a Fraud

Dude cannot act his way out of a body bag. Another pretty boy trying to look more intelligent than he is. If I had millions from looking hot, I would be able to get into 15 schools too (pardon me, I would be able to buy my way in, just like franco and other richie riches)...full tuition paying students are always welcome at schools and celebrity speaks far louder than a middle american who needs a college loan yet brings no press to the table. The univiersities that allow him in are reaping big PR benefits regardless of his intellectual fitness to be there.

    • James Franco is NOT a Fraud

You're comment is retarded. Clearly someone nominated for an Academy Award CAN act his way out of a paper bag. I can't argue with you that he is a pretty boy, good lord he's gorgeous. Just look at those Gucci ads. Yes, he likely has made millions from that beautiful face, along with additional millions from his fine acting, and yes his money and fame can likely get him to the top of the admission pile, but it is his hard work and dedication that will keep him there. I haven't heard of him failing out or not passing any of the educational endeavors that he pursues so not only is your comment retarded, it lacks merit.

Ummm...clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. This guy has studied at some of the best schools in the country and is currently working on his Ph.D. in English at Yale, all while carrying on a successful acting career. Hardly a "mimbo".

He isn't trying to prove anything. It makes him happy to learn and try different things.

Stupid question. It pretty much proves he'd rather engage himself in life instead of sitting around playing video games or bar-hopping in Hollywood.

We're all very excited about this, as you can imagine. So far, it seems tickets have not yet become available http://www.stellaadler.com. One correction: the Yale musical production was never produced. See more news on Twitter @JamesFrancoNews and the new official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Franco-News-giftaways/125870137491431 (both are Franco family approved)

James Franco is a multi-talented individual and this latest endeavor attests to the fact that he can engage in all forms of performance art.
