De Niro: Also not a fan of Trump's 'birther' claims

Donald Trump’s "birther" claims don’t seem to be winning the mogul a lot of supporters in Hollywood: Robert De Niro is the latest star to speak out against Trump’s frequent questioning of President Obama’s citizenship.

De Niro was speaking with NBC News' Brian Williams at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, the issue arose when the topic of politics came up.

“Certain people in the news the last couple of weeks, just, what are they doing? It’s crazy," De Niro said. "They’re making statements about people that they don’t even back up. Go get the facts before you start saying things about people.”

Although at first De Niro didn’t want to mention any names, after Williams asked if the person the actor was referring to has “a show on my network on Sunday night," De Niro admitted that he was talking about Trump, who's been making the rounds talking about a potential presidential run.

“It’s like a big hustle; it’s like being a car salesman,” De Niro went on. “Don’t go out there and say things unless you can back them up. How dare you? That’s awful to do. To just go out and speak and say these terrible things? Unless you just wanna get over and get the job. It’s crazy.”

De Niro's statements come on the heels of Jerry Seinfeld's own denouncement of Trump's remarks. The comedian said last week that he canceled on a benefit hosted by the Eric Trump Foundation because he'd grown "increasingly uncomfortable" with the statements the "Celebrity Apprentice" host has been making about the President, and "feels this kind of demagoguery has no place in public discourse."

As he did with Seinfeld, Trump has lobbed a retort back at De Niro.

While on a call to "Fox & Friends," Trump said of the actor, "He's not the brightest bulb on the planet. I've been watching him over the years, and I like his acting, but you know - in terms of when I watch him doing interviews and various other things - we're not dealing with Albert Einstein."

Trump has to realize that being President is not being king ... no guillotines for those who speak against you. Time to inject a little diplomacy and get over the urge to bark "You're fired!" at anyone who dares to question your absolute authority. Being President is about listening and responding for the public good, not just "the Donald", and his delicate feelings. You won't last two minutes if you let personal criticisms incite you to lash out on the campaign trail.

Mr. Trump's legacy is about being the loudest and most arrogant voice, not about being the sharpest pencil.
Long gone are the days of the bully pulpit in international affairs and he needs to know how to speak in a measured response. We have seen how well "might means right" has worked for the US in World opinion. Trump: FAIL!

While I would agree that Donald Trump is a savvy business man, but he has NO place in politics. The political world should be left to people who, first of all, know how to carry themselves in the public eye with integrity, intelligence and poise, not cheap and uneducated. Trump carries himself like new money with a GED and a big ego, cheap, doesnt know when to hold his tounge and is under some sort of impression that people like him just because he has money.

Some of your remarks on this post are unbelievable. Most of you act 5 years old. De Niro is a wonderful actor and has the right to his opinion. Trump is digging his own grave and showing his intelligence in real-time; he's more like a angry 4th grader who lashes out at anyone with an opinion. Money can't buy common sense. He would not be a good leader. One has to take it on the chin, so to say, and learn to politically shut their mouth.

Can you imagine having a president that speaks in such a condescending way to just about everyone he comes in contact with. How could he possibly relate to the average person and their financial woes ? He is rude and dictatorial. He lacks empathy to people he feels are below him which is just about everyone. De Niro was just stating a opinion and Trump had to come back with a cheap slam. Very tacky from someone who thinks he has such class.

I'm no Trump fan by any stretch but if he wants to stir the pot of controversy regarding this still unresolved issue its all right by met. I know I have still yet to see any verifiable proof on this. Ask yourselves why are we Americans so willing to accept what we're told as being the truth without any irrefutable legal evidence backing it up? Well its because we become too damn "gullible" for our own good. So go ahead Donald keep chipping away at the stone and maybe, just maybe we'll get to the bottom of the truth on this issue.

Why not ask yourself why you believe the people who refuse to acknowledge legal proof provided by the state of Hawaii as to his birth. Ask yourself how his birth announcement in the local paper of record could have been falsified when the information came directly from the Health Department, NOT the parents. Ask yourself why you believe that the alleged "long form" includes his religion: it does not include this information. Just because some joker on Fox News told you it did doesn't make it true. Call Hawaii's Health Department and ask them directly, or call your public library and have them place the call if you don't want to pay for it. Take some initiative and find out for yourself. And when you find out that Fox News is wrong, why not ask yourself why you continue to watch their news programming?

DeNiro is stating an opinion. Trump is trying to pass BS off as fact. There's a difference!

Is CNN's investigation good enough for you? (they are convinced of his birth in Hawaii)
Or do you not bother to tune into the news or try to keep up with actual facts?

    newsflash for Skppy

Is CNN's investigation good enough for you? (they are convinced of his birth in Hawaii)

They also reported that none of the official sources they spoke to in Hawaii have been contacted by Mr. Trump's so-called investigation....

Or do you not bother to tune into the news or try to keep up with actual facts?

Skippy, NOW WHAT???? The proof has been released and TRUMP ,in his own pomposity is patting himself on the back because his lies precipitated the Whitehouse release the birth certificate. Talk about guilding the lily! Are you man enough to apoligize or are those biased blinkers a permanent fixture on your eyes.? Trump is a pathetic excuse for a human being, who would sell his first born to fuel his ego and make a buck. It's people like Trump, who don't give a damn about the country, that have allowed the big corporations to out source American jobs and still maintain that taxes remain low for corporations . America , the beautiful, what have you become, when the likes of Trump and Palin are considered for the highest office in the land? I'm afraid for your future but glad I don't live among you.
