Mariah Carey to join Simon Cowell's 'X Factor'

Motherhood isn't the only new role that Mariah Carey is gearing up for—the singer is also in talks to be part of Fox's upcoming talent competition "X Factor" this fall.

"I think Mariah will have a role on the live shows. I met her recently and she was [i]n great form," producer Simon Cowell said in a recent radio interview, according to The Wrap.

"Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which of course only Mariah could come up with," Cowell continued. "She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits."

Both Cowell and music producer Antonio "L.A." Reid will serve as judges for the singing contest, which originated in the U.K. and airs on ITV, although Cowell has just announced that he'll no longer be part of the British show.

"We are talking to him about ways he can have an on-screen presence later in the show," ITV’s director of television Peter Fincham told the Daily Mirror. "He will not be a weekly judge, but he will be an enormous presence backstage as always.”

The fat comments don't even make sense. She's carrying twins and had at least one miscarriage before she became successfully pregnant. Leave her body out of this, it certainly has nothing to do with her vocal talent or judging abilities.

Mariah Carey is almost as bad a choice as Jennifer Lopez. Neither of them have any business judging other singers.

I'd have to agree with Sean...a bunch of average bodies making comments about her weight. What she brings to the table is he ability to write hit after hit, her mainstay power in the music business and oh yeah...she has a voice that anybody would kill for (you tube her perfomances and don't take my word for it.) Hmmm...sounds like an excellent resume to judge a singing contest. I think they've finally got it right this time. I'll be watching.

For each individual who decided to make a remark about her weight, id be willing to bet you're no body builder. For everyone who made a comment about her not being a great mom, you obviously have boi children or just can't control your own. Also for everyone who said she can't sing, you obviously have no sense of, well anything. She's the greatest singer/songwriter of the millennium for a reason. 13 studio albums prove that. As well as the millions she's earned. Get a life and leave hers alone. You obviously have no talent yourself.

I think Mariah's about 2 sandwiches short of a picnic and her voice is also shot, but she IS a singer and has 20 years experience in the business–she's certainly a hell of a lot more qualified than J-Lo to be an arbiter of singing talent.

@ Scott. Yeah, she sure knows #1 records. Google "payloa Mariah" and see how she scored most of her #1 hits. She is a horrible songwriter. About on the level of an 8th graders work. There is a reason she didn't make the Top 100 Greatest Female Arists of all time list back when VH1 did a survey of hundreds of her peers. She isn't respected in the industry because they know just how she got her hits.

Her voice isnt what it used to be, but still sounds better than 90% of 'singers' today, her new christmas album and live performances that followed proved it. Whatever you think of her songwriting, she knows how to create hits (18 number ones, more than anyone but the Beatles) and I bet you havnt even heard 10% of her songs. In fact her best songs are the ones that didnt become singles eg. Vanishing, Breakdown, Butterfly. Listen to those, come back and then you can have a credible opinion. Bottom line is she is one of, if not THE most talented woman in the music industry, give her some respect.

she isnt smart then what are you? She has had a hugely successful 20+ year career and still going, she sure is smart. Dont judge her just because she has big boobs and a pretty face. I've seen enough of her interviews to realise she is an intelligent woman. I really cant understand how people can be so negative towards someone who has done nothing but good all their life, and inspires people every day.

Why do so many people who just have negative things to say take the time to write something on here. Mariah is one of the most successful artists of all time and writes almost all of her own music and certainly knows about making a # 1 hit since she has 18, the most for a solo artist. The show will boost her back into the spot light but frankly the show is beneath her.

Aside from all that - shallow much? Listen I was never a huge fan of Mariah's music style of choice even in her glory days...but to solely go on the womans looks w/o knowing her at all....yeah...that's real mature...idiot.

You obviously don't realise she is 9 months pregnant with twins, if that isn't justification for being big then I don't know what is. I bet you'd rather she used a surrogate mother so she could keep her figure, just to avoid offending your eyes. Even if she was just fat, who cares? If you're that vain and shallow why don't you just watch America's Next Top Model where only girls who are stick thin can be seen. Mariah is a beautiful, curvy woman with great spirit and more talent in her little finger than you will ever have.

Really people?!? She regardless of the negativity, facts are facts. She IS the Best selling female artist OF ALL TIME! Google it. She has more #1's than any other solo artist EVER...18. She is a singer. Songwriter. Producer. She has sold nearly 200 million albums worldwide. Been named "artist of the millenium" and won Many MANY awards. She has worked with everyone from Pavorotti and Aretha Franklin to Ludacris and The Dream. Who do you think paved the way for the likes of Cristina and Britney, did we forget "Fantasy" ft. ODB?!? Did u know she also directed that video? Did I mention her songs have spent more weeks at #1 than ANY OTHER artist in history! At the end of the day there will be haters, that goes for any celebrity. Mariah will be a huge assett to the show. Even if you don't watch, her millions of loyal fans will. I've met her twice and have been to several shows...homegirl can sing and she very much is not the DIVA the media makes her to be. BTW. Incase you don't know by now...she's pregnant with twins! She's gorgeous, what is she suppose to look like, a stick!?! She'll bounce back right after and be back better than ever!

Such selfishness and greed in this country. In the end, all will pay; whether 'we' have done good or bad......., I wish all supposedly 'stars' would learn this valuable lesson.
