Jay-Z launches new web siteA hip-hop version of Gwyneth Paltrow's "GOOP." Or at least close to it. That's what Rolling Stone seems to think of Jay-Z's new lifestyle web site Life + Times. The site is a mixture of items about fashion, sports, style, music, leisure and technology. There's very little linking the site to the superstar rapper other than his partially obscured pic on the front page, snippets of his music over some of the video's and a link titled "Jay's" which as of Thursday contained only a lovely shot of a sunset (or maybe a sun rise as it's hard to tell.) The comparison between Life + Times and Paltrow's lifestyle newsletter "GOOP" makes sense given that Paltrow and her hubby musician Chris Martin are best-ies with the rapper and his wife Beyonce. |

Some of these comments are so stupid and have nothing to do with Jay's website. First, Beyonce could have fallen in love with Jay because of his personality and not his money. Besides, she has her own money. Have you ever seen him on a talk show? Dude has a great personality! He is actually funny and has a sense of humor. As an artist, I do believe that you should not stifle yourself. Yea, he has money, but so what. There are so many other artistic elements in this universe. I think it is great that Jay is utilizing this type of platform. No shade here. Jay's TRUE followers will continue to support him. All you others can move around.

Jay Z is the greatest rapper of all time. He is a flawless business man but he is also a good example of what greed can get for you. That is not a role model. A role model is an artist who uses the music to uplift the people on a deeper level. Not money, cash, hoes and big pimpin. He has songs that deal with real human issues and I applaud him for that. Well I've never been a big fan of Jigga and his music but facts are facts. This guy does have the midas touch when it comes to several avenues in life. How ever he does it isn't so much the issue. The issue is that he does it! Dude has put in some serious work, blood, sweat and tears into everything. Not everything was a stunning success but more ventures were than not. You don't have to like him but you can't take away his hard work and dedication. Nobody gets to be this big, relevant, talked about by having it handed to them.

Jay isn't talented. That proves your knowledge of his music career is zero. The guy walks around a room bobbing his head to a beat for 45 or so minutes and boom – no pen, no paper he has a hit that if nothing else flows. Even if you don't feel his style, that is an artist and a talent. Anyone who says he should retire must not appreciate the unique gift he has to have over ten albums of music memorized without any wasted paper. He is a natural if there ever was one. This is why rappers who become filthy rich entrepreneurs should just stop rapping. I thought it was a very wise decision for him to retire. He was on top of his game. When he came back, I was disgusted. How many more songs can you make about popping bottles or glorifying yourself and your city? After the hustling, the struggles and the come-up, you really need to bring something of substance to the table to stay relevant as an artist. The same material gets very monotonous after a while. You can't gauge true success and credibility by record sales. I think he should just focus on his nightclubs, vodka, jewelry ads, producing, etc. It's not that he's lost his touch as a lyricist. It's just that it doesn't make sense anymore.
Then don't buy it. He makes more sense than 95% of these other guys. Calm down and focus on your goals in life.
