Death Cab shooting first ever live, one-take videoTonight, at 7 p.m. EST, Death Cab for Cutie will do something no band has ever attempted. They'll shoot a scripted music video in one-take while it's being simulcast on the web. Unlike the one-take videos by 'OK Go,' that can be re-done several times to get it right, Death Cab only has one shot, raising the stakes to new heights. CNN caught up with two members of the band as they were rehearsing for the big performance. The music video is for Death Cab's new single "You are a Tourist," off their upcoming album "Codes and Keys." The new album will be available in stores on May 31.

This is not a potshot at DC4C, but... baloney. It's called a recorded live performance and, prior to about 1979, pretty much anything that could be interpreted as a "music video" was done that way (minus the web simulcast).
Yes, I know it's just something cooked up by their publicity manager... but even the implication that there's anything pioneering about it is annoying.

@Posh & Brooke- EXACTLY! How can anyone consider them "alt-rock"? They're part of this annoying indie-hipster-starbucks easy listening crap that is everywhere. I'm not saying I hate it all or I'm too good for it but... really I don't know how much more I can take. I'm really just glad the punk-pop-fuaxrock phase is nearly done with. Genius? ROFL...Stephen Hawking is a genius. Ben Gibbard and this lousy band are just garbage. He sounds like a whiny girl when he "sings". Death Cab is nothing more than music for pretentious hipsters who THINK they "get it" and like to broadcast to others that they do.
And yeah, it takes some thought – just one, in fact. That thought is "Where is the garbage can so I have something to throw this CD into?"

Great Band! Crative alternative music, its not pop so I would expect everyone would like it. Takes some thought.
They are a really good band, good chill out music.
The Beatles did this almost 45 years ago. "All You Need is Love" was filmed before a live studio audience and televised to millions around the world. Youtube it. Great journalism.

Unlike everyone else that knew what they wanted but still had to add "um" I just stepped up and just said, "medium house". try omitting "um" sometime, its liberating.
Didn't New Order do this back in '85 with Jonathan Demme? "The Perfect Kiss" video was definitely done live musically, unsure about the editing though.
I find the violent connotation and suggestion of the name sickening and so unlike anything that CNN would NORMALLY report on. Come on guys. You can do better than this. Try decency for once.. :]
