Brooke Shields to play Morticia Addams on Broadway

Expect to see the creepy and kooky side of beautiful Brooke Shields when she joins the cast of Broadway's "The Addams Family" this summer.

According to Playbill, Shields has just signed on to play Morticia Addams in the popular musical based on the 1960s TV series.

"I am delighted to be joining 'The Addams Family' this summer," says Shields, who will take over for actress Bebe Neuwirth. "When the producers asked me to come see the show a few months ago, I found it to be wonderfully entertaining, funny, clever and even touching, and I knew immediately that I wanted to be the next Morticia, following the amazing Bebe Neuwirth."

Neuwirth will play her last show on June 26, and Shields—whose previous Broadway credits include "Grease," "Chicago," "Cabaret," "Wonderful Town" and "Girls Talk"—will take the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with Gomez Addams (Roger Rees) beginning June 28.

"I can’t wait to join Roger and the wonderful cast," she says.

Does Shields have what it takes to play Morticia?

Bebe Neuwirth and Roger Rees? They just need one more Cheers alum to join the cast for the trifecta. How about George Wendt as Uncle Fester?

I find it very odd, still, that Brooke Shields can sing and dance. It's even stranger that she is actually GOOD.

Saw Brooke in Cabaret and Chicago. The girl can really sing and dance.
Adding Brooke to the cast just might save the show from closing after BeBe leaves.

Yes, I wouldn't have thought of her in the role, but now that I picture it, yes! She's got the figure and face to play the original goth goddess. I saw the play last year and LOVED it! Bebe and Nathan were phenomenal in the roles of Morticia and Gomez.
well...- Cher would also make a great choice as well.
