We started out with 18 contestants coming back to vie for the title that eluded them all the first time around. And after the longest season in “Top Chef” history, it all comes down to this.
In one corner, we have Richard Blais, the mad scientist from Season Four. In the other, Mike Isabella, the antagonistic Mediterranean-style savant from Season Six.
It’s certainly not the final pair I would have predicted. Along the way, we lost fan favorites Carla and Fabio, super-strong competitors Angelo and Dale, and redemption-seeking former finalists, such as Tiffani, Marcel and Casey.
Mike made a strong push in the last several episodes, putting together a string of victories that propelled him into the finale.
But in the recap for the first episode of this “All-Stars” season, I proclaimed Richard as the one to beat, and I see no reason to back off that prediction now. I think he’ll make up for his stumble in his original season and take home the title of Top Chef.
Will it be Richard or Mike? The finale of “Top Chef: All-Stars” airs at 10 p.m. ET tonight on Bravo.
Congrats to Richard, but did he really deserve to win? Mike didn't just deserve to be there, he killed it.
Don't know why everyone is hating on him.
I'm glad Richard won. Not only do I think he totally got ripped off when Stephanie won, but Mike Isabella was an insufferable jerk to Robin in his season. Robin may not be the most likable person, but she did NOT deserve the treatment she got from Mike and his bully-buddy Jennifer Carroll.
Not that Stephanie is a bad person or anything, but she was clearly not as talented as Richard. She was shocked when she won, and she probably knows the only reason she won was because Richard choked.
I agree that Mike improved dramatically, and I actually found myself enjoying watching him cook this time. But I'm so glad Richard won. Richard was a little arrogant this season, but he seems like a much nicer person than Mike. Not that Top Chef is a popularity contest, but I truly believe Richard deserved to win from a professional standpoint, as well.
But Mike's fish looked incredible! The first second I saw it, I said, "That fish looks PERFECTLY cooked!" If it wasn't for his dessert, I bet Mike would have won.
I'd like to see Gordon Ramsay try that crap in MY kitchen! He'd be sautee'd and flambe'd in about 2 seconds.
I ate chineese food for lunch today and now have pretty bad diareah. I bet they put too much MSG in it. It was pretty good though. I should be reading but it is more fun to blog when you are doing number two.
I like watching "Hells Kitchen" !
i agree...probably blais, although mike has never seemed like much of a contender...
If Richard doesn't win, there's some kind of fix in. Mike is no where near in his league.
That makes no sense. Why would they fix it for Mike to win? If they were going to fix it, they would make it so the favorite won. Richard was clearly the favorite.
I wish they would make good thick cheeseburgers on the grill. They are always trying to make something too fancy that looks like and sounds like it taste like something a normal person would throw away.
If you want cheeseburgers and other "normal" food, head over to Food Network. There's plenty of that drivel on there. Top Chef is a breath of fresh air for those of us who already know how to cook a cheeseburger or throw together a pasta meal in 30 minutes.
