Russell Brand: Katy makes the decisions at homeRussell Brand plays an eccentric billionaire coping with love and alcohol in the upcoming comedy "Arthur," and the actor can relate to both themes in real life. A former alcohol and drug abuser, the Brit comic has been clean and sober for eight years and still attends AA meetings three times a week. Read the full interview with Russell Brand in Details "The only way to cope is with a program," he tells Details of handling addiction. "If you stop doing the recovery, even eating too much chocolate, something will flare up, and I know where that leads, because I've been there before. To me, the gravity is heroin, and then death. You know, to sleep."
While Arthur may have a tricky time finding true love, Brand is nicely settled into married life with singer Katy Perry, whom he wed last October. "There are a lot of areas where I've simply relinquished decision-making," he says. "It really does make my mates laugh, though. I do not go with the flow. I quarrel with flows. I build dams. I drain lakes. I split oceans when required."

The trailer for Arthur got no laughs in the theatre I saw it in. He speaks as incoherently in that article as Charlie Sheen.
I can't wait to see the new "Arthur". He is perfect for the part as Dudley Moore was for the original. Bound to be a lot of laughs in this modern version.

What a funny, funny guy. Saw him on LKL before he retired. Sharp, quick wit. Lovely person. Sobriety has given him back the life he truly deserves. He's keeping it by giving it away. Thrilled for him!
Remaking Arthur is one of the worst ideas from hollywood! I hope the movie fails and everyone involved with the movie is somehow cursed with Dudley Moore's laughing in their ears that never goes away. These movie studios can't do anything original anymore.
1st off, good luck with AA meetings and staying sober.
2nd, I'd let Katy be the power of the home to.. Duh...

I commend Russell Brand on his 8 yrs. have 16 because of AA and NA. AND HE IS TALENTED AND FUNNY. AND I WISH HE AND KATY MUCH HAPPINESS. ,...,,,,....,,.,.

maybe you should stick to renting old jerry lewis "films" and reruns of the dean martin celbrity roast. contemporary comedy is not held to a reaganesque censorship and is actually relevant to what's going on in society. russel brand will not be doing any jimmy duranty skits or liza minelli prat falls (oops maybe she was just stinking drunk).
Wow! And here I thought taste in comedy was an individual taste - like art and music and food. Good to know there's someone out there who makes the determination for all of us. (If allowed an opinion, mine is that Russell Brand is one of the most intelligent, funniest people around, and endlessly interesting. He is also capable of contemplating some of the larger issues in life in a rather serious way. Rock on, Russell!)
I hate to be doom and gloom (well, no I don't), but I wonder how long he will last "sober" now that he is at the top of the food chain in Hollywood.
He's been at the top in London for quite sometime now, he's no stranger to being in the spotlight or success, and America gets drank under the table when it comes to over-seas, I'm sure he won't have a problem with this pathetic party scene we have here in the states. Funny guy, Katy perry is smoking hot. Good for him, stay up homie.
This movie never should have been remade. Its a shame.
Why remake this movie? They certainly wont do better than Liza and Dudley.
Have you seen the trailer with Jennifer Garner where he's scared to death of her? They walk out of the restaurant and he's asking the other customers to help him get away from her. It's hilarious! It looks like the rare remake where it's funnier than the original and I'm really looking forward to it.
liza minelli sucks...sucked way back when, sucked in arthur and sucks now. sickening untalented drunk. dudley moore was ok, his "arthur" was bad. by the time he made it he was almost irrelevant, and liza minelli was most certainly never relevant outside of gay circles and "hepcat" old people clubs. at least russel brand is fresh and funny. but i agree they shoud have never rehashed a bad movie to begin with.

A little torpedo of truth for ya...AA has a 5% success rate.
Is that you Charlie ? Give the guy a break. He's doing great and it's working for him. He must be in that 5%. Give credit when credit is due.
I am also a member of AA and that is statistic is a distortion and not based on fact in any way. If you actually work and complete the 12 steps of AA it has a 100% success rate. If you merely attend an AA group and do not complete the 12 steps maybe 5% is accurate. It is like saying someone enrolled in college that does notattend classes and do thier homework won't learn anything duh!
Success rate...meaning someone goes and stays sober indefinately...then yes 5% sounds accurate. I relapsed twice in the program but now have over a year of sobriety...maybe I'm not that 5% of success....but considering I couldn't go more than 4 days without a drink...and then after going to meetings I went 3 months...then 6 months....now I'm over a year... that may not put me in the success category of 5%, but the peace of mind, serenity, and happiness that I have in my life now is better than being part of a statistic. Also, even though the percentage is low....AA still has the highest rate of success than any other way of ceasing alcohol use.
