A stunning result on 'Idol'

SPOILER ALERT – Tonight's "Idol" blog will reveal who is leaving the competition, so please don't read if you don't want to know.

I'm trying to type through the tears.

The judges saved Casey, and his appreciation was so genuine that it moved me.  He deserves to still be in the competition.

And great news for fans: There will be a Top 11 tour this summer instead of a Top 10. What a crazy, insane and beautiful night.

What do we think caused Casey to get such a low number of votes this week? Are you happy with the result? Did the judges use the save too soon?

Let us know your thoughts.

As I see it Pia doesn't have the "IT" factor but most of them do!

Manufactured drama. I listened without watching....I couldn't understand why Ryan kept pausing.....after a few beats the crowd would start yelling or booing. Enough. There are so many good voices I don't know why it had to resemble the Romans deciding who would live and who would die. Enough. The drama cheapens the show.

I loved Casey in the begining...his performance with that enormous base was triumphant. He entered "Nirvana", with a series of horrid screaches and unintelligable lyrics and he lost his shine. He needs to take this second chance and go back to performing in the way that got him on the show!

The whole Casey thing was staged!!! They had to do something to get the ratings up!! Haley or THia would have been probably voted off. But they staged the whole Casey thing so that most people like him and would be happy to see the judges save him!!! The public isnt stupid!!!

Personally I think they should invert the voting and instead of voting for who you want to stay you should vote for who you would like to see go. That way it eliminates the possible current scenario where one person may get 98% of the vote and the rest are split among everyone else with sometimes only a fraction of a percent difference among them. I think it would be interesting anyway.

Casey doesn't get our vote. I think he looks like Will Farrel (very distracting) and my wife is grossed out by his hair and beard. Says he looks, "Dirty." And we all know that image is part of the package so strikes for image. As far as his singing goes, an occasional hit but mostly grunts and growls. A bit over the top. He does have confidence and commands a stage well but it's not enough to overcome the other issues I stated.

I, for one, love Casey. He is not only a talented vocalist, but a talented musician as well. Not only that, but when he is on stage I find him to be such an entertainer. He gets the crowd involved, doesn't just stand there with a mic. I would definitely purchase one of his CD's. Casey MOST CERTAINLY should not have been in the bottom. He is such a well-rounded artist and I would hate to see him go. STEP IT UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, two will be going home next week... and NO save available! Casey may yet have to pack his bags. Josh and Niama have already been reserved from the start and I'm glad they were. They make the show a little more interesting and give it some "color" (pardon the pun). Next on the GOOD-BYE list should be Paul... unique? Yes, but on the odd side.

I'm happy Casey got a reprieve because I like him. However, ALL that earth shattering drama, you'd think someone just told him he'd been cured of cancer or something. It's just a tv show.

I agree Casey should have been saved. And I agree this was a stunt. They didn't have enough time left for him to sing the whole song. Hulk must have taken too much time! Casey, I hope you are listening. You are so talented, but you need to cut the theatrics and concentrate on your specialty. A little drama is good, but not goofy unless you want to work for Disney! The audience doesn't know exactly where you fit which is some of the problem. Oh, and if you will clean up the hairy look, you will be more popular. Please. But, guy, I really like you a lot!

Wasted save. Too early in the show. If Casey doesn't step up his game plan, he'll be voted off again next week. I, for one, am not that impressed with his vocals and would not buy his album.

Faked? Perhaps... Casey's reaction was indeed full of drama as was James' reaction to Hulk Hogan's appearance. In any case, I think the judges used their "save" too soon and certainly for the wrong person. Casey's style is too campy and his appearance is too sloppy for an American Idol and the total package doesn't attract the masses. I don't think he'll make the final four and he won't be saved the next time his head is on the block.

This was the first time that I really felt that decisions were orchestrated behind the scenes. Casey in the bottom? No way. He might not be everyone's favourite, but come on. He is talented and a showman; they need someone like him on tour. The fact that Thia was sent back (and I do think she is sweet) made for 5 girls and 5 guys, before it was announced that 11 would tour this summer. American Idol gets the results it wants at the end of the day.

Give me a break, folks! Casey migh have SOME talent, but not as a recording STAR. I'm sure he could do well in some small local bands, but to put him in the company of truly talented rock stars seems a bit ridiculous. Pia is wonderful, but nothing special. She has a great voice, is cery pretty, stylish, all that, but there are many out there like her. Naima should go back where she came from and do her dances there. Thia has a lot of growing up to do–again, good voice, but nothing special. Paul does NOT have a good voice, but he has style and is not commonplace. (Did Rod Stewart ever have a voice?? or Neil Diamond?) Mr Country Singer is out of place, although he will find some short lived fame on the country music scene. Stefano and Haley are out. And Casey (Mr-Adam-Lambert-Wanna-Be) will go the Taylor Hicks route - a record contract that goes nowhere.

I think some of you forget that Casey has spent quite a bit of time in the hospital in the past few weeks. He has not had the benefit of being mentored as aggressively as the rest of the contestants. I also think, from speaking with my AI watching friends, that everyone assumed Casey was safe and didn't vote for him, ala Chris Daughtery. And we all know that the "Save" was created in memory of Chris’s untimely boot. I think Casey will probably tone it down next week, maybe break out the big bass, and wow us once again. For me…I thought Niama should have gone. She would be a winner on a dancing show, but the vocals aren’t there IMO.

Even though the "save" was made early, it was necessary. I think viewers who truly appreciate talent know that
Casey should not have been voted off. Unfortunately viewers vote can turn things upside down at any time . There
are folks out there that will intentionally vote for the wrong person. We saw this with Crystal Bowersox and Adam the past two seasons. Maybe another "save" will be thrown in just like the latest change of finalists who get to tour.

He made a big mistake doing Nirvana last week, but Casey is my favorite and they used the save correctly. I don't think Casey has the vocal abilities to win American Idol and he isn't a pop star, but he's the only contestant I would pay money to see perform live and I hope he hangs in for as long as possible. I don't know how Thea, Niema, or Paul are surviving. They are all talented, but compared to the rest of the contestants, their singing lacks power and entertainment.

11 talented, not all going to be stars. Stars: Casey (most talented, not most talented singer), Pia (definitely Celine-type clone), Scotty (country star in the making for sure but will only appeal to country music lovers. I predict a duo with Carrie U), Thia (the purest voice IMHO, next Hannah Montana), Paul (in some weird way people love him), James (with a band). Those who don't belong – Naomi (sp?, over-rated, not a good singer), Haley (has a mean growl, that's it). Jacob, I'm not sure. Judges sure gush about him but I don't get it. Sounds nasaly or something. Like he's singing from the roof of his mouth. Might hit the gospel charts and follow Ruben's footsteps but I wouldn't pay to hear him. Stefano is okay and might squeak out 1 or 2 hits before we lose sight of him.

Casey was saved because of his talent only. But American Idol is about the most popular singer, not the greatest talent. Casey needs to work a lot on becoming more attractive to a young American audience. Casey should not get a makeover! He needs to get back to what got him to where he is now and hold on for dear life. Maybe they saved Casey because of the malfunctions of he voting system that a few other people mentioned (not being able to get their votes through), and, because the producers knew about those malfunctions, it was predetermined to save Casey.

I'm bored with this season's contestants. It's difficult to care about any of them. I cared about Crystal. I cared about Adam. I was genuinely disappointed when neither of them won. This year, I don't care who wins. But, I want Thia to stick around, and not because I believe that she should win or can win, but because her voice is stellar and pitch perfect and she doesn't need to growl or hit the Celine Dion type high notes to sing a song perfectly. I don't want Thia to have an early exit. I'd like to see her improve each week. And, I like James, because he always looks as if he's having the time of his life and he is fun to listen to and watch. Yeah, I could live without the high notes in every song, but overall I do like him and he is quite talented. You can't criticize him for being "like Adam," because a lot of voters liked Adam, so it makes sense that the judges would choose someone with Adam's type of style. Plus, after 9 Seasons, you're not going to have all originals; there's bound to be some contestants who seem much like past contestants.

The only thing surprising is that the judges wasted their save on him. If you check DialIdol.com which monitors busy signals to try to predict rankings Casey has been in the bottom 2 for several weeks. This is not that voters thought he was safe this week. America has not been voting for this guy. He will be gone within 3 weeks. Wasted save.

I don't think it was wasted. He will probably go in the next couple of weeks which is a bummer but he will help sell tickets for the tour. I think he appeals to an older demographic. They aren't necessarily voting but they might consider buying a ticket to take their kids if they can see Casey with his bass.

I do think however, that the save was meant for a few select contestants as I said above. Casey was one of them.

As usual, Casey will not win but he will make it in the end. Why? Because he, like all the others that will lose, will not be stuck in some contract. Producers and labels will snap him up and he will be a bigger star than the winner. Why? Because the winner is stuck and he won't be. I think the best thing about American Idol is seeing who loses and becomes a bigger star than the winner.

The save was only ever going to be used on certain people: Casey, Jacob, Pia, Paul, Scotty – so, I'm not surprised.

Having said that, I think the save was appropriate. This is an incredibly talented kid. I sometimes wonder if he tries too hard. I thought his best work was with his bass and jazzy vibe.

My order of people who should go next: Sorry but, Thia. She's just not ready. Then, Niama aka Noxema. I just don't get Motown & African dancing. Her best work was the raggae infused Umbrella. She should stick with that.
After that, the guido guy. Sorry, but if I can't remember your name, you're not my american idol. Plus, he loses the melody in so many songs – enough with the rifts. Then, Haley. She's lost her edge. After that, Paul. I love Paul. Love, love, love. I just don't think most people get him unless you're over 35 and we're not the demographic that's voting.

Next to go should be, Casey – for the same reason as above – demographically challenged. Then, the gawdy country girl – UNLESS, there's country week and she does a dixie chick song. Then I think she'll hang around longer.

After that, it's anybody's game. Pia needs to lighten up and stop with the pageant arms. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. James needs to stop trying so hard. The voice is there and if you're cool, people just know it. You don't have to have the scarf and the spiked hairdo to prove it. Scotty, well, there's a huge country base in this country and he's a nice kid. He's going to have trouble in some of the weeks to come because he's not diverse but he's good and green – a producer's dream. Jacob – well, Jacob is Luther reborn. He needs to keep the fruitcake to a minimum because we know voters don't dig that.

Right now, my choice is Jacob to win it but it's truly anybody's Idol.

I disagree with most of the voters and obviously the judges on this one. I think Casey was good in the tryouts but has failed miserably in the top group. However, that said, there are those that should go before him – Naima, Haley, Paul, Scotty, Thia. To be in the top 5 I think you need to be consistant week to week. Casey's screeching performance 2 weeks ago and his terrible performance this week is what put him in the bottom 3. I can't get it out of my head that a comment was made locally that he looks like Yukon Cornelius from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cartoon!

This is the best year of AI, talent wise. The same issue plagues the show though, pre-teen to teenage girls voting for something simply because they think they're cute, hot, or whatever (remember Justin Guarini). AI isn't looking for someone like Britney Spears. They're looking for REAL talent. Casey shouldn't have been in the bottom 3, period. Haley, Naima (as much as I hate to say it), and Stefano should've been. A case could've been made for Scotty too. Motown week is usually my least favorite because always ends up butchering a Temptations song, but this had to be one of the best weeks ever for the show. There weren't any horrible performances, just a few OK performances. Don't get me wrong, Stefano can blow, but the way he pronounces words is flat out irritating. Last night is the reason I stopped watching the show to begin with after season 2. To watch someone who is actually good get voted off because the little girls don't like them enough is ridiculous. I really think the voting needs to change. Fact is though, the winner probably won't make near as much money as 2 or 3 of the other contestants.

Why is everyone so surprised Casey was in the bottom 3? I thought it was totally obvious it would happen because 1) he was the first performer of the night, 2) he had a decent but forgettable performance, and 3) his beard and intense eyes are scaring girl voters away.

Casey *can* be a very good singer, but he's been sliding the past couple weeks with poor song choices and too much growling. I picked him and Thia to be in the bottom 3, and I also wasn't surprised Stephano was there, due to a forgettable performance.

Any time a contestant gets lost in the shuffle, they're at risk for going home, even if they're a good singer like he and Casey are.

Plain and simple, The voters on AL are stupid. The fact that Casey was on the bottom is a clear indication the vote is simply a popularity vote and talent is not taken into consideration. The fact that Naima is still there tells me all I need to know.....

There are several strange things happening with the show. Casey getting the fewest votes! No way! There being five girls and five guys in the top 10 (6 guys in 11 if you count Casey). No Way! The males are far superior to the females this season. Last night did appear staged.

For those who keep attacking that "country boy" Scotty, I hope you understand that the most popular music in the US in Country Music. Scotty has a great country voice. AI is not all about Pop. Think Carrie Underwood. She will turn out to be the most successful AI person ever because she is Country. Scotty is a great singer in his genre, and much, much better singer than several of the others. To me, only he and Durban stand the chance of a truelly successful, long term career.

    March 25, 2011 at 9:28 am | Report abuse |
    • OhYeah

Carrie Underwood is crossover country. She's on more than just country stations. Scotty would be on country only. While Carrie is amazing, she is also one of the most beautiful contestants to ever be on the show. Unfortunately, looks do play a part. Why isn't Adele more mainstream? Because she isn't that attractive. Scotty will probably sell about as much as Josh Gracin. Remember him? Of course not. The person that does well on the show spans music genres. Look at the most successful contestants and if their music was only played on one type of station, it wasn't. Daughtry plays on several types of stations, same with Carrie and Kelly Clarkson. Scotty is a one trick pony, not to mention, extremely irritating to watch. You can read through all of the comments and see a pattern, people have favorites. It's the way it's supposed to be. It's the younger generations that don't seem to get it though. I'm 33, and have kept an eye on the show the whole time. For me, it's about the talent. I vote for whoever does the best that week, in my eyes. While the younger generations vote for who they like to look at. The younger generation has no clue what talent is. Think I'm wrong in saying that??? Why is that stupid Rebecca Black song, Friday, so popular?

This just make us up here in the Great White North wonder how the voting system works down there. How in the world could voters NOT keep Casey in. This was a bad case of misconception on your part, the guy has talent and is exceptional in gaining the viewers attention. Even though it may have been a "drama" kick in at the end of the show, the voters have to wake up and actually listen to the performers and catch their visual expressions on how they relay the total meaning of the songs they choose. Let's hope for a better outcome next week.

I love Casey–have from the point of his audition. But what I see, and I think this may be a result of the sort of feedback he is getting from the judges and how he's interpreting their comments, is angry presence when he sings. I don't think he's angry, but his face, his posturing and at times his voice sounds angry. He is super super talented. Has an amazing future ahead of him. But I think he would do well to take a serious look at how he presents on stage and how that may be perceived by the viewers. Good Luck Casey! Good Luck to all of the contestants!

The American public is too unsophisticated and biased to measure music and singing in terms of its quality or artistic value. Demographics, personality traits and overall looks are far more important to the voting public than the ability to sing! Casey was at the bottom of the list because he has too much hair on his face, he is not the best looking guy in the crowd-and he is Jewish I believe, which doesn't help him get votes in in a Christian society.

Supporting my theory, consider this: Stefano, who probably has the best singing voice of the entire lot, was in the bottom three, not because he doesn't have phenomenal vocal ability, but because his name is "Stefano." If he were "Steve", he would have unquestionably been voted into the top three where he belongs!

Glad Casey was saved. My impression is that because so many felt that he's destined to go all the way, many felt he didn't need their vote, so they voted for their favorite underdogs to win, and as a result of everyone assuming that everyone else would vote for Casey, he got the least amount of votes.

Just because they couldn't let us forget the fact that these results were stunning does not mean, in fact, that they were stunning. Casey? Why him? Because today's music has declined and so did the taste of the people who are listening.
Casey is one of the best, in fact I was guessing him as a potential winner of the whole thing. Obviously he won't be, because the judges saved him this week, but he will eventually fall out. Who will win? Another "Kris Allen"? That would really mean the end of American Idol.

Randy and his "pitchy" remarks. Does he really think that 99.9% of the people who are listening out there really can hear occasional pitchiness?

Another issue. Forget the "sing this or sing that" setup. Allow the contestants to sing whatever they want. A successful artist will never sing in real life anything outside of his or her style, so what is the point of pushing for some "universal talent". Did Pavarotti ever had to sing a Led Zeppelin song? Did Mick Jagger was ever forced to sing opera?

Completely orchestrated. This was a scripted as any TV drama.,

I can almost hear the discussion in the producer's room.

"OK, we need to up the excitement – how about we put one of the most popular contestants in the bottom and then have the judges save him? That'll make people think nobody is safe and make them watch every week. Then we'll announce that all top eleven are going on tour. That way we'll sell more tickets and avoid the disaster we had last year."

The entire show is rigged, the votes don't count except to make AT&T money and to give the producers an idea of who's popular. The producers have the final say on who stays or goes, not the fans. It's a fun show but don't believe for a minute that it's not planned from start from finish. I'm sure Casey was nowhere near the bottom of the vote-getters. It was all a fake-out. I just hope he doesn't become seriously ill from the stress they put him through. He's already been in the hospital twice!

I think the fact that Casey sang first on Tuesday night had a bearing on the results. The contestants that sing towards the end of the show are still fresh in the voters minds and will most likely get the most votes... and especially those of people who change their vote each week, according to performances. Singing first is a real disadvantage.

There is a very simple reason why Casey received the fewest votes Wednesday, March 23rd. Producers had Casey perform FIRST that evening. So... many viewers who tuned into the broadcast late, never saw his performance. Had Casey performed in the ladder part of Wednesday's show he most certainly would not have received such few votes. Count on Casey to perform in the second half of next week's show, guaranteeing he moves on to the next round.

No. But it was marketing genious – and a show with Steve Wonder singing 'Happy Birthday' to Steven Tyler, Sugarland, and Jennifer Lopez made the 'dim the lights' portions mercitifully friend, and the outsome an audience-builder. I think I can easily pick te Top 18, maybe even the Top 4 at this point,so I won't necessarily be watching Tuesdays – but this was one of most entertaining Idol's in a long time. Tonight was a whole bunch of surprises, to say the least. I never would have guessed that it would be Casey to go, then be saved.

However, I'm on the fence about the save. I mean, I like Casey as an original singer, and an all-around good performer. But remember, this is still early in the season. There may be a few "dark horses" who could come out of the woodwork and blow everyone away. Furthermore, even though I like Casey, there are a few who, in my opinion, are a little better, and could use the save later on (Jacob, James, Pia). I just hope that for their sake, there isn't resentment among the 11 for the judges using the save too early.

In my opinion, it should have been Haley to go home tonight. She's never seemed original to me, and she's completely overrated.

All in all, I'm happy for Casey. This just means he has to work even harder for next week.

I felt this was going to happen with the way American Idol counts the votes and the best talent this show has had ever. With letting people dial, text or select online now, there is no limit on how many times you can vote for a true count per caller, texter or online vote to be sure. This prevents popularity votes like we've seen in the past. Causing some to go home early. It was a shock to see the bottom three this week. Of the three, I could see Casey going, but I thought someone else like Haley would go for her selection of songs and the way she sung them. What a dramatic end to the show, but next week two must leave.... I hope my favorites do very well. I have six I like and three who stand out over the rest. (Jacob,Naima,Thia,Pia) The rest have unique voices (Paul, Scotty) they are soft rock and country to me. I see several of the lones left having a recording carear and known for the best group on this years AI.

I don't like Casey at all. He seems like a comedian singer to me and I thought that his demonstration after the save was over the top. More like a mental case and rather creepy. But I knew that the judges would save him. He sings all right, but I think that James Durbin and Scotty McCreery and Pia are far more talented.

Because he went first and was forgotten, going first is not always the best thing, if they did a study, which I am sure Fox has done, I bet many first performances performers have gone away.

Haley yea...enough is enough, prancing around the stage, if I flip some hips around and do cheezy facials with pseudo-growls. Buhbye already. Thea, beauuutiful pure voice, but not ready. What I don't get AT ALL is how the sam **** Paul is still around?!?!? I'm so sick of hearing his illegible whisper-sing I could vomit. I. Don't. Get. It.

James has a mild case of Turets for the folk or (person) who didn't know. I thought for sure Haley or Scotty would go. All in all, this is a good group of talent. Surely we don't base "talent" off of looks. Younger folks do that.

What a show, what a night! This sets a new standard for reality tv. It was so exciting it took me a while to calm down after the show. The entertainment was great! That whole thing with Hulk Hogan: we were howling, it was so funny. And Casey, I think I felt about as sick as he did. Thank you to the judges for the Save! Jennifer Hudson is so impressive, she's really a pro and we love her. And I was thrilled to see George Huff in her backup team, I'm glad he's not flippin' eggs for a living. I thought he was adorable when he was a contestant so I'm glad he's doing well. This was a fantastic night for AI.

I think Casey, Pia, and James Durbin are the best right now. Just think Pia needs to loosen up a little more and maybe she would be more likable. I think Haley is trying too hard to be likable.

For all of you voting for Naima-you know what? Whats wrong with you? Please adjust the audio on you tvs. Because obviously youve got them set wrong if you think she can sing. Also she looks like an alien monster when she sings up close to the camera. Remember Predator? Her clothes look like a crayon box threw up. Those knappy dreads also have to go. Just too ghettoish. Last but not least, her dancing looks more like a seizure or demonic possession than anything else. God I hope she goes home soon.

You're comment is spot on, 100% accurate!!! The girl cannot sing. She should be more worried about seeing a damn dentist to shave down those horse theeth. And when Niama goes up for results, she's always got a scowl on her face and then makes the other contestants uncomfortable when she says "well, let's see who it's gonna be and then points to the other singer standing in her group to be labeled safe.....and then makes snide comments under her breathe that she'll be in the bottom 3. I CANNOT stand her – she thinks she's the star - she is mediocre singer at best and she doesn't have anything it takes to be an American Idol. She has got to go!!!

This is no doubt the absolute best American Idol I have ever seen. The most talented group ever as chosen by the great judges. How anyone can make a choice is beyond me. I personally think they should now not choose one winner, but rather one in each category just like the music awards. It is impossible to choose one only out of this formidable tand alented group of stars.

I wonder if any of this was truly a surprise to the judges. They seemed ready for saving Casey. I think there was some dispute amongst them – to save Stefano and Thia when Thia should have left. They wanted them on the tour and they know they couldn't use a save on either one of them. So they set up and saved Casey, knowing he has a huge fan base, he was number one last week, people would be happy he'd be saved. And all will look well and good. What do you think about this? It looked just too planned to me and sorry they put Casey through all that stress.

What was America thinking??? Judges were right-on to save Casey. There are at least 8 singers that should go home before him. I think voters thought he was safe, so they didn't bother to vote. Lesson 101,,,,if you like a singer, you better vote, or they are going home.

Okay I'm calling them/Him out! Scotty was NOT singing. Notice the camera's did not pan to him at all when they were doing the group songs. He did not do a solo or even a duo with anyone, while all the others did. Why is that?! If I were the others I'd be hollering foul! There was one particular time when Stevie Wonder was singing and the group was was too, and he was the ONLY one without the mic up to his mouth, but was dancing instead while the others had their mics and were dancing as well. NO WAY, he's NOT singing, the producers, the judges, and the contestants KNOW that he's not sharing the load.

I agree with you. Scotty's MIA performance was very obvious. The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago in a group song. He did not sing solo and the camera did not focus on him. The save was used too soon. In all probability Casey will be eliminated long before the end of the season. While there is great diversity of style among the contests, there are only a few with the talent necessary to sustain a lasting recording career. AI does not guarantee success, as the winners of the past few season have shown. In fact most of the contestants who were given record deals immediately after their season ended, have been dropped by their label within a few years.

You're nuts Cat. Lusk is arguably the best singer there AND he had the best performance this week. He has unbelievable range and excellent tone. The only person on the show who is close to him talent wise is Pia. There is an abundance of talent this year and to me the big three are Lusk, Pia, and Durbin. Lauren, Stefano are a notch below and then Scotty and Thia. Naima, Paul, and Haley are the weakest remaining. I really don't know where to put Casey. I enjoy his personality & i'm glad he'll get to go on tour, but he just doesn't stand up to the talent of the best of the idols this year.

@RavensPIT – No way Jacob is even in the top three. He seems like a fun guy to hang out with, but he has some serious pitch problems. I compare him to a very dexterous guitar player that can shred some riffs all up and down the neck – the only problem is the whole guitar is out of tune. He has some awesome ability and range, but it doesn't sound all that great. It becomes especially evident when he stops and tries to sustain a note instead of ripping through a hundred notes in quick succession.

The most talented "Muscisian" on the show. He might not be the proto-type bubble gum "pop singner" that the younger generation loves, He might not have the looks that todays Pop stars have, but musically he is more talented than all of them.

I think it was a good time to save someone. At this point, all the contestants are still viable and the judges DONT have to make that big decision every week for the next 10 weeks. Casey is a talented musician but his SOUND might not resonate with the younger crowd who does the most voting. I dont think they "get" how talented he is.

Theyre all good singers, but some could easily have been voted off before Casey: Thia (not idol winner mat'l YET) Pia, who is pretty, talented and yet, NOT A PERFORMER but would make a good recording artist only, Stefano, carries an ok tune, but doesnt get my vote at all, and truly, Niama ISNT as good as people make her out to be. Let's not forget the pretty blonde who GROWLS thru the notes she cannot hit, I wonder if I'm the only one catching that?

I think this season of "Idol" is getting a bit wierd and intresting.

I totally agree. The younger audience does not know how talented Casey is. This will be hard for america to do.

Agree completely...but can someone explain to me why that whispering cheshire cat smiling Paul is still there? He has NO voice and don't think his rod stewart/Mick Jagger copycat moves on stage are unique at all. ALso Scott (country dude) has gotta go. Seriously...who the hell is voting for these clowns?

AMEN! This was the best reply I've seen. Yes, Haley does growl through the notes she can't hit. I try to close my eyes when these people sing and imagine hearing it on the radio. If I had to listen to that growl while driving, I would chang the station. Sorry, cute girl, but not a GREAT singer. Her low notes are nice. Jacob is soley church music. Casey should have gone home. I'm behind Jason and Paul.

I just cracked up when I read Tom's response about Paul's cheshire smiling whisper. I can't stand Paul and I am just shocked that the judges rave about him. But then I never though Rod Stewart could sing worth a damn either. I think this season is interesting in the fact that most of the contestants are good singers, but they are quite boring to watch. Could it be that we've just all seen it all before and it's getting old? When you think back to the first few seasons, there were so many crappy singers, but we still loved the show because it was still new. Although I have to admit that I like watching judges who over more constructive criticism than feeling the need to totally crush a young person in front of millions of people.

I felt like this would happen, that all 11 would go on tour. I thought that they would just say everyone would go, not that someone got the lowest votes. But then when Ryan said for everyone to make sure they watch the whole show, it got me to thinking. I'm so glad. Like I said last night this whole group is great, truly. The group song they did tonight was the best group song that I've ever seen since they began doing group songs. Just can't say enough about this whole group. The judges are truly great judges. they say the right things and know exactly what to say to get the singers doing great things. This is truly the best Idol ever.

    How did this happen?

1 good week, and 2 consitently bad weeks. That is how this happened. Smells Like Teen Spirit was, without a doubt, the worst performance on the Idol stage, ever. This week he was bad, too. You are part of why none of these people will have an ounce of success. You're overlooking two bad weeks, and thinking "well, he had that one song"- would you buy his album of 10 copies of the same song? No, you wouldn't. Yet, you'll vote to keep him around.

also, hicks, tweens and moms vote. the hicks will send scotty and lauren to the top 3. the tweens will keep voting for paul and james. the moms will keep voting for jacob, pia, thia and stefano, because they love boring-ass ballads over artistry. none of this is about talent (everyone on this show is talented enough). it's about appeal, which is why extremely talented, but "different" people like casey don't get the votes. also, he went first. that always has an impact.

Wow. I've said it for weeks: This is the best collection of talent on AI I've ever seen. How the public is EVER going to sift it down to one, and only one idol is anybody's guess. I'm thinking that's why we had Stephano & Casey in the bottom three. From here on out, nobody belongs in the bottom! It's going to get more-and-more dramatic, and tough.

I'll make it easy for you... Pia will win. she's the only one with real talent AND has the looks as well.

I hate to say it, but I believe Casey's facial hair costs him a lot of votes. That is how shallow the public is – how a person looks. If he shaved off (at least trimmed way back) his beard and moustache, probably would make it to the final two or win.

I can't believe that ANYONE would buy into the "hollywood" drama last night! If you read any of the various posts yesterday, someone "claiming" to be associated with the show picked the bottom three AND even mentioned how they were going to interupt "the loser" to let him know he was safe. I personally saw something like this coming... it happens every year (some form of drama). Personally, I LOVE this season.... I definatly think this is the best talent they've ever had. But the bottom three that they had up there was nothing more than a publicity stunt to get them more simpathy votes next week. There is no way that Haley got so few votes one week and wasn't even in the bottom three this week. I am perfectly fine with the games that the producers want to play. But I would like for them to be a little more honest with the viewer (or the viewer and writer of this blog to be a little less naive).

the voting system is backward. everybody votes for their favorite, so 3 or 4 performers get 98% of the votes. this means a few votes makes a big difference for the rest

Bottom line...AI wanted him on tour and he should be there. Will he win this year? No. Be he will be fun and a key performer for the tour.

Modern Music is rooted in The Blues and even if you say you don't like The Blues, the music you listen to owes its exitence to that Genre. Casey is a Blues "Artist". The most talented "Muscisian" on the show. He might not be the proto-type bubble gum "pop singner" that the younger generation loves, He might not have the looks that todays Pop stars have, but musically he is more talented than all of them.

I think the judges know from the beginning which 2-4 they would save if they got sent home early- I think the would have used the save for Pia, Jacob, James, or Casey. Although the talent pool is especially strong this year, there is a sharp line dividing those four from the rest. Enjoying this season very much! Steven is the new Paula, Jennifer is the second Randy, and who needs Simon?

Judeges were praising him too much (especially the 'good looking' stuff) and it went to his head. The voting audience just doen't like that.

Was stunned that Casey was on the verge of leaving!! I think the judges made an EXCELLENT choice to keep him. There are so many wonderful talents this year & it is hard to chose, but Casey is one that should all the way to the top. He's got personality plus & is extremely versitle (?) with his talent. I don't mind his facial hair at all. He wouldn't be Casey without the look he has now! GO CASEY!

I have watched several seasons of Idol and I have to say this year has to be the most talented. All 11 are very talented and could be the winner. Eventually someone is going to be voted off and whomever it is it won't be fair or right...just the way it is. I do believe women contestants have a disadvantage. I think more women watch and vote than men and they typically vote for the men...just a theory although I was surprised at casey being #11 las week...simply put...no right answer this year when talking about who should be voted off.

I have no idea what is going on, other than Talent standards being lowered. I have been a very big fan of Idol since the very first season, but I have never been this bored with a group of finalists, ever. For the most part, they are ONLY picking songs that have been done on American Idol a million times before, and they are trying to do the previous contestants version of it. No one is original, no one stands out, not one unique voice amongst this group. I have not been impressed by a single performance, because I was impressed the first time I heard it – a few seasons back. I cannot decide which girl bores me more: Pia, or Thia. Nice voices – but nothing worth remembering. Just a lack-luster season, with so-so performances being treated as though they're worth a Grammy. There is no Star in this group, and they are all fighting for that "poorly sold, career killing" album at the end- because none of them have what it takes to carry an entire album. You will not hear from any of these contestants 5 years from now.

@Greg. I think I agree with you. I think his look is kind of off putting to some, but I also think people know that he is one of the top 5 in talent and automatically think that he is safe. Also I think AI needs to do a new theme night called "First Time on Idol". It would be songs that have never been sung in the finals. Wouldn't that be awesome!!!!

@Aaron – I don't know if the show is fixed or not, but if it ever got out that it was, it would lose whatever credibility it has. However, the show is taped in the afternoon, in front of a live audience. Anyone in attendance could easily claim to be "associated" with the show and spill the beans.

I understand the judges appreciating Casey's musicianship but his singing has devolved into a series of growls and grunts. The public gets it right....although there are others with less talent than Casey at least they've been trying to sing. They should have saved the Save for someone who should actually win.
