Jennifer Lawrence officially cast in 'Hunger Games'It's official! "Winter's Bone" star Jennifer Lawrence has landed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy, according to MTV. As Marquee previously reported, the Oscar nominee was the front-runner to play the 16-year-old girl who is chosen to compete in a government-sponsored reality show that requires her to kill her peers. Lawrence's own real-life competition was pretty fierce: More than 30 actresses, including Abigail Breslin and "True Grit" star Hailee Steinfeld, auditioned for the part.
"Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave," says author Collins. "I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.” Now the search is on for an actor to portray Katniss's fellow competitor/nice-guy love interest Peeta Mellark. Among the contenders: Hunter Parrish ("Weeds"), Josh Hutcherson ("The Kids Are Alright"), Alex Pettyfer ("Beastly") and Liam Hemsworth ("The Last Song"). Stay tuned! I do NOT think Hunter Parrish has the acting chops. Who will play Cinna? The drunk mentor? The crazy reporter??
I think Hunter Parrish would be fantastic. As soon as I saw he was up for the role, I thought 'PERFECT!'
I have reservations about Jennifer Lawrence being cast as a 15 year-old, but Gary Ross seems confident. Prove me (and the rest who have doubts) wrong, Ross. Prove me wrong.

I just hope the movie lives up to fan expectations and that the casting choices deliver on the promises made by the director to dissuade any possible disappointment by fans. That's all.
