It's official! "Winter's Bone" star Jennifer Lawrence has landed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy, according to MTV.
As Marquee previously reported, the Oscar nominee was the front-runner to play the 16-year-old girl who is chosen to compete in a government-sponsored reality show that requires her to kill her peers.
Lawrence's own real-life competition was pretty fierce: More than 30 actresses, including Abigail Breslin and "True Grit" star Hailee Steinfeld, auditioned for the part.
"Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave," says author Collins. "I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.”
Now the search is on for an actor to portray Katniss's fellow competitor/nice-guy love interest Peeta Mellark. Among the contenders: Hunter Parrish ("Weeds"), Josh Hutcherson ("The Kids Are Alright"), Alex Pettyfer ("Beastly") and Liam Hemsworth ("The Last Song").
Who do you think should play Peeta in "The Hunger Games"?
