The magic lasso and bullet-deflecting bracelets that Lynda Carter famously wore in the '70s series appear to be intact, but the star-studded short-shorts? Not so much. Instead, we now have blue pants (shiny leggings is perhaps more descriptive) and blue boots instead of the classic red.
But, Entertainment Weekly notes, Kelley is keeping the plane in the pilot of this reboot, which he's said will portray Wonder Woman as a "real complex woman and not just a superhero." Meanwhile, NBC says that if the show is picked up for a series, they plan to offer a "serious, non-campy take" on the Amazing Amazon, a perspective that's tripped up at least one fan.
"I'm not saying that the WW costume is bad, but I think the costume looks a bit silly," tweeted talon842. "If this Wonder Woman series is a more serious in tone show, then the costume is a bit out of place. But if the show is more tongue-in-cheek, then the costume is fine."
Other reactions are similarly perplexed, with one person being able to accept the pants, but not the blue boots, while another feels those pants pay "homage to Evel Knievel. In a shiny skintight PVC kind of way."
But perhaps another viewer has it right: "Is the new Wonder Woman TV show costume perfect, no. Could it have been a lot worse, very much so yes!"
What do you think of the costume?
