'Idol' loses its first contestantSPOILER ALERT – Tonight's "Idol" blog will reveal who is leaving the competition, so please don't read if you don't want to know. I have to say I wasn't very surprised. Were you? This season's crop of contestants is pretty impressive, but there are a few weak links in the bunch and Ashthon was one. I didn't get why she made the Wild Card other than the fact that she had lots of attitude. But attitude can only get you so far. So your thoughts? Did the right person go home? |

It's going to some down to James, Jacob, Pia and Casey anyway, so they should just eliminate the other now. Scotty is so boring, all he knows is country.
God guys the name is ASHTHON!!!! Get it right!
As i imply in my un... i am rooting for casey all the way. but i could see james or scotty making it too. theyre all three really good.
They got it right. While I admired some of what Ashton did during her tenure on Idol, and I do believe she has a career ahead of her in music, this year's talent field is amazing; no one can take for granted their stay, and it behooves the remaining 12 to choose their material carefully. Her dismissal is more a function of her song choice and performance than her hair or skin colour, despite some of the more inflammatory comments here; with the wealth of Diana Ross's song catalog, Ashton's choice could hardly have been worse.
Truthfully, I was a little surprised at Karen's appearance in the bottom three, and I hope she doesn't falter again, as her performances in the prelims were a neverending delight; I would have put Thia there, despite the judges' enthusiasm for her voice, as I felt it was a little predictable and more "boring," as Randy called Karen's, because of the perpetual sweetness of her choices.
This season's Idol contestants have brought about a return of my enthusiasm for the show; last season was dreadful, in spite of the delightful Crystal Bowersox, and the prior season was not much better. The depth of vocal range and power offers new hope for pop, country and rock, and I will watch with interest as it unfolds (and just for the record, my personal choice is Scotty, in spite of the fact I'm not a country fan; that boy can really SING!).
Ashton was the right choice to go home. She was nothing but a talentless egomaniac who was sure she was gonna make it. The look on her face when they sent her home was priceless. A real Kodak moment. Karen too boxed in by making everything Spanish. wont go far with that. Naima just plain terrible. Cant dance either. And when she goes home next week she can wipe off some of that clown makeup too. James will rock on. Hes great. Probably will come down to Pia vs James. Finally decent talent worth listening to.
The right person was sent home she just did not have it and when they gave her a chance to redeem herself she did the same song that she did a terrible job on the night before! I would like to know why Casey was in the hospital though???
Save should not be used until one of the top 5 might need it
Thank God she is gone. She was so bad. It hurt my ears to hear that voice. And the same with Jacob. He has to go next. I have no clue what that crap was that he sang this week..they are both terrible.
She was the right person to go home. She really just wasn't that good. I always like how the judges say "keep at it" and the contestants are like "You'll see me again." Really? Come on! Who was in the 13th spot on of AI Season 1? Ok, how about Season 3? Season 6? Exactly! In order to get any future recognition, you have to make at least the top 5 or 6.
I definitely think the right person was sent home! I thought it was funny when they called that other girls name to go to the stool and her face was all smug because it wasn't her, then they called her name too and she was all surprised. LOL!
It amazes me how many people complain about the singers, the show, last year's show...if you don't like it don't watch it. Why on earth are you reading the articles? Why do you care? Move on, please!!!
I was surprised to see Haley in the bottom 3 after a very good performance. I really liked Ashton but the song she sang this week was one step shy of awful. Karen's song wasn't much better. I like Paul (he's quirky), but I hated his performance this week....I think when it call comes down to it, it will be between Casey and either Pia or Jacob.
Ashton has the voice and the range but needs to study music and develop 'her ear'. She needs theory of music in order to know when she is sharp or flat. If she wants to be successful this is the way she needs to proceed but her ego might stand in the way. Jacob is another one who could do with some formal training as he is all over the map and constantly sharp and flat. He has the voice too but he needs to learn control and timing to perfect his pitch.
"It" cannot be taught. You have an ear, or you don't. I have people beside me in choir with big power and good tone, but who slip off key in a heartbeat. Then there are those who are always on pitch, but don't have power. The best singers are born with perfect pitch, marvelous vocal quality, and power and range.
100% the right choice. America voted her out of the top not once, but twice in a row! That should say something right there. She didn't deserve a wildcard to begin with.
Bad singers...biased judges (or in denial), and length of show way too long...can you say desperate for ratings? Stepped on my cats tail just to provide a better sound..
Yup, Ashton was a given! I agree with most she was not the right choice to save from the start. She was not nearly as good as some of the others. Judges were hoping she would get better but just didn't.
And by the way, guys, leave JLo alone. She's doing a magnificent job. She's warm and compassionate, and she gives spot on feedback to the contestants. I think both she and Steven are awesome. This season is the best one in 10 years!
I think the right person was sent home. Too much confidence and not enough consistency in her voice. What always amazes me is how well the contestant sings their last song. Granted, a few pitch problems, but overall, she belted it out.
These kids are all so talented, I'm just blown away.
I like Ashton! She's a beautiful, talented girl. I have hair pretty much like her and it's not a gift! It's what you were given and it is very difficult to tame not to mention hard on the hair itself. I like that she let it be free! I think there were a few that should have gone before her! Adam Lambet was awesome last night! Wow! Love Adam! Finally a good season!
I agree, Wendy. She wasn't a winner by any means but Karen and Paul were far worse than she was and lets not forget about Thia. Going by performance and performance alone, Karen should have gone home.
I think Ashthon was beautiful girl. I didn't much care for the wigs but what does that have to do with being an idol? I am not suprised she went home but that is only because of talent. She did good throughout the entire show until it got down to the wildcard. She sang Monica's song horribly. I do think someone else should have gotten the wildcard slot. Honestly, most of the wildcards should not have gotten a second chance, but a lot of it has to do with ratings and not talent. It also has to do with who they thought America would vote for because Clint Jun Gamboa could really sing and had a good ear for music but he did himself in when he kicked Jaycee (the 15 year old) out of his group. At that point you knew he wasn't going to make it. Ashthon did have a bad performance and I do believe she deserved to go home. I don't believe Thia is next though. I disagree with whoever made that comment, I just believe they need to keep her in her element and not try to make her into who she is not. My favorite so far is Pia and James.
I'm a cat. I liked Ashton's hair. She was the weakest link. And Paul...I don't get him. Pretty white teeth tho. I like Naima. She's the underdog. Why doesn Ryan get to walk down those steps all the time? Won't he fall and his hair get messed up? I'm a cat. I know thing.
Time to send the Latina home. This isn't Mexican Idol.
She IS an American, you idiot. How about we send J-Lo home, too???????????????
I see that you feel that the top Idols all should be white, is that what I am hearing?
@Ms. Brown; yep and he's not the only one. Read all the posts.
Thia you have a very high musicality compare to all. you should sing songs of Sarah Geronimo. Don't be afraid that you will introduce Filipino songs. You should incorporate different instruments not just piano! Loosen Up! Belt out!
Wow! All these comments and not one person spelled the booted contestant's name right.
It's not Ashton.
It's ASHTHON.
The second H stands for horrible singer.
The asian girl is gonna be next..
I agree completely that she was the first to go. She should not have been saved in the first place compared to the other two women they let go. Technically she just has a weak voice and cannot hold a candle to the other powerhouses. Nice girl thought and she will do well elsewhere. Good job Ashton for trying so hard and forget about all the ridiculous comments on hair.
She was not the most talented singer but she was better than some. She went home because of her hair. Everyone I talked to said they could not stand looking at that hair. If she dyed it orange she would look like bozo the clown. If she would have worn her hair Wed like she did last night she would have been there another week.
It seem to me that her hair is not your problem, because many black women wear their heir like that, I think your problem is that you just do not like her.
I was surprised when Ashton got picked for the wild card. She wasnt that good and kept getting worse. She was sharp in her notes. I get so annoyed when Jennifers says, its not about the pitch, thats crap, if your a singer you have to be spot on , like the 15 year old that sang smile. The producer in the baseball cap is an ass, he made her jazz up Smile, I had to vote for her to keep her in, because I know Pia is going into the final rounds. Is it Jacob, has an amazing voice, but he needs to harness it , because it goes all over the place and he is sometimes sharp, Randy has the only good ear, Im surprised he didnt notice it. I think they would have liked for Ashton to improve, but she didnt.
Naima, is gorgeous, but she's another one that goes sharp and flat, if she can overcome her nerves, she might sing on key.
Funny how your negative critique is against the only three african-americans. Care to offer any negative views on the overwhelmingy white contestants or are they all perfect?
This comments are from someone who is anti-African American. Shame!
There were 3 other people from last week who were far superior singers than Ashton...Listening to her was a painful, cover your ears experience...
Personally I'm glad to see her go, she would never 'belt' out the song that she needed to show her range. She always fell flat and quite frankly I AM NOT surprised.
This year's batch is the best since Idol day one. Everyone from among the thirteen deserve a break in AI or elsewhere. Producers listen up!!!
So, who was it? I still can't find the "blog."
Haley should have gone home. She is OVERRATED, and I knew she would be in the bottom this week. It's so sad to see Ashthon go. Didn't you see how sad the others on the stage were?
They should've sent BOTH haley and Ashthon packing!
Completey agree with you! They both should have been booted!!
Glad she's gone. Horrilble singer, way out of tune.
No surprise for a mediocre talent.
Why can't they just do batch cuts? These three suck, now we don't have to waste 3 nights worth of your time. This show is a waste of time and pointless.
As opposed to what, "Two and a half Men". If you think it's a waste of time, why are you posting here? YOU opened the link...DUH Entertainment is supposed to be "pointless"
I would LOVE batch cuts – so efficient! Unfortunately, they just finished the batch cuts and are now down to individual cuts or individual shows. They want all those shows so they have all that advertising time to sell. If they lopped off the bottom three in one show, it would severely impact their ad revenue. BTW – I DVR'ed the Wednesday show, two hours' worth. I played back and fast forwarded through EVERYTHING except the actual performances and the judges' immediate comments. The whole two hours was over in 45 minutes!
A lot of times we know its not the persons singing ability but personality that gets them through. Karen lacks in the personality department and she will go soon enough. Ashton's problem was her confidence was seen as arrogance. I personally liked her.
american idol isnt news, why oh why cnn? -.-
It's news to me. Not everyone agrees on what is news, and what isn't. Also, this is the entertainment blog portion of the CNN website, so American Idol is entertainment news.
This is under Entertainment News not World News
You don't have to read AI news. So, why do you?
It was poor song selection. I don't think the judges should have saved her.
She has a beautiful voice.
Paul or Naima are the next two bottom dwellers.
Naima impressed me greatly with that Umbrella – ella – ella – eh eh eh eh eheh performance. I loved the reggie part of the song she added, you can tell this girl wants it, some of the contestants are ho hum whatever you think guys type people. She was young, new and fresh sounding. I did not expect that from her, good job girl.
Could not agree more. Paul is boring and Naima is just strange.
Paul is next. I think Naima will make it into the top 10 at least.
Naima, just like Crystal from last year has messed up teeth and she will not win. She should go up to the producers and say "LOOK, I'm talented, please fix my teeth for me and I won't let you down" ... if not she's gone soon because honestly she looks like she might eat her young with those monster teeth.
I agree. I just don't get the Paul thing – his voice is just terrible and I don't understand why the judges keep praising him. Simon would tell it like it is.
She didn't deserve to go home!
she most certainly did. she was terrible and needs Proactiv.
I insist, she didn't deserve to go. Watch her future.......
I think she's very talented. She will probably end up with a record deal. But she just didn't show her talent when it mattered the most. This week, she deserved to go.
The right person deinitely left. Her screechy delivery and her laughably inflated ego were reasons enough to send her packing, but add to that lack of talent, then you start to wonder why she was given a wild card to start with.
YES SHE DID!
A) Adam Lambert sucks - His song was SO BORING.
B) The right chick went home
C) The Bushy beard guy should be next because he was horrible.
No surprises. Doubt if there will be surprises next week either since the talent of the top 5 is way above the bottom 7.
The right person was sent packing. If I had to look at that bushy hair again I was gonna scream. It's called a flat iron, girl
not everyone is supposed to have blond, straight hair.
I totally agree with wow...not everyone has perfectly straight hair, i'm a curly blond and I'm not about to damage my hair with a straight iron so don't hate on her
Yes, she needed to go – because of less talent – not because of hair! Since when was American Idol about a hairdo? It's hard enough being judged by the world on your voice, now these poor kids have to worry about whether or not everyone LOVES their hair? Shame.
