'Star Wars' 3-D arriving in theaters February 2012

George Lucas is taking the "Star Wars" movies into a whole new galaxy, re-releasing each of the fantasy films as a 3-D spectacular.

The first of the films, "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace," is expected to arrive in theaters on February 10, 2012, reports the L.A. Times. The plan is to roll out additional 3-D conversions of the remaining five flicks each year after that.

"Phantom Menace" isn't the only big 3-D blockbuster hitting screens in 2012. According to the L.A. Times, a 3-D conversion of James Cameron's "Titanic" will sail into theaters next April, with "Conan the Barbarian," "Fright Night" and "Adventures of Tintin" arriving later in the year.

Are you excited to see "Star Wars," and all those other movies, in 3-D?

  2. This is news?

This was already confirmed months ago! And frankly, 3-D effects are annoying. Though since it's Star Wars, I may reconsider . . . for the original trilogy only, without the added scenes from 2004.

George – forget about Star Wars. When are you remaking Howard the Duck in 3D?

wow, King, can you be any more of a snide brown noser? I too love Star Wars, in fact I love it so much that I am in a Star Wars Costuming Club... but for the love of god... get a life!
Lucas is not Jesus, he can't preform mericals, and his peak ended at "Jedi" anything from that point on has been a travesty. as a true-blue fan, I honestly wish he had just left the original trilogy the hell alone. and frankly I agree with Eric... Ep 1 is crap. Ep 2 is only mildly better than that, and Ep 3 was a disapointment as well.
now that I've finished my own little rant... go get a life Vod.

Episode 1 is a complete bore. Why not start with the original (and better) trilogy? Granted, it's not all sitting in a computer somewhere but who's going to want to sit through Phantom Menace again? We showed it to our friend's five-year old after he got hooked on the original three. He said, "This is SO boring."

they shud do it the original way 4-6, then 1-3. Episode 1's ok but jar jar needs to be removed from existence. the pod race shud be cool in 3D tho. Ep.II is pretty decent. III ROTS is EPIC. the only one i saw in theaters was ROTS cuz i didnt really get into star wars til 2005 wen it came out. this is my chance to see all of them in theaters. but like i sed, they really shud do the original trilogy first.

....Wow, what are you, Lucas's son or something? Your protectionism of Lucas borders on Beiber fangirlism, or Gaga lemming syndrome. Fact is, there's really only ONE good film out of the 6 star wars movies and it wasn't even directed by Lucas.

The Star Wars Saga does lend itself to the 3D treatment. However, it still fills like Lucas is just whoring out the franchise to get some more money from the latest Hollywood trend.

All the other movies mentioned really should never be in 3D.

During 3-D reprocessing, Lucas should remove the entire Gungan race from existence. Then Episodes I & II might be worth watching. As it stands, both movies (III was actually worthy of being called Star Wars) are not worth the effort. This coming from a guy who grew up on Star Wars.

But think about this....if there was no gungan race...what would the first episode be.....and the first episode did have some important things related to the story !

  12. Poor lucas

What can you say but poor lucas. it seems he can't move past Star Wars and do much more except re-release them again every couple of years with a new twist to them. I saw Episode 4 when I was 5 and still remember the magic of that and then next 2 and the total disappointment in the last 3. Bigger techs didn't make the story good George, in fact, the special effects where sad at certain points in A New Hope it was the \story you told, and you lost that in 1-3. Time to move past Star Wars and on to somehting else for the next 30 years big boy

I wish so too and i wish he would redo the first 3 movies in animation
i am speaking of ( a NEW HOPE, The EMPIRE Strikes BACK, REturn of the JEDi ) in animation with no real actors

It would be great if he did. The Timothy Zahn novels would make a perfect trilogy. The only down side is that the actors that we need to play the rolls maybe too old now.

This sounds fantastic! I remember seeing Episode 1 when it first came out way back in 1977 when i was in elementary school and it's still my favorite of the 6 films. It'll be exciting to see it in 3D!

That's Episode 4 "A New Hope"...Episode 1 "Phantom Menace" is not going to excite anyone other than George Lucas.

He really should start with Episode 4. Nobody is going to go see the train wreck that was Episode 1, and the other 5 won't be released.

Star Wars in 3d sounds good, I dont know about the Phantom Menace, 3d cant save that disaster of a movie, but the next 5 movies would be cool to see in 3d.

Oh boy, I wonder how many pointless new scenes he's gonna add? It's so ironic how Lucas has done the most out of anybody to ruin Star Wars.
