At the red carpet premiere for the new '80s comedy "Take Me Home Tonight," actress Lea Thompson said if she could bring back one thing from that decade, it would be a certain co-star.
"Bring that Charlie Sheen back," she tells CNN of her cast mate in 1984's "Red Dawn." "Actually, in my opinion, there’s not that much difference—he was pretty nutty back then, in a wonderful way."
Though Thompson believes Sheen is smart, funny and talented, she is fascinated by some of the troubled ex-"Two and a Half Men" star's recent tweets. "My daughter was following that yesterday," she says of his Twitter updates. "It’s better than any reality TV."
Judging by his recent television interviews, Thompson admits she doesn't believe Sheen has completely conquered his demons.
"I don’t think you can get sober in three days," she says. "Sobriety takes a lot of work on yourself. It was interesting seeing [on TV], this juxtaposition between when he was really sober and now. He doesn’t look as sober now."
The actress has worked with Sheen's father Martin Sheen and brother Emilio Estevez, and says she has sympathy for both. "I know this must be hard for them," she says. "He’s a wonderful actor and a wonderful guy, it’s just insane."
