Aretha Franklin to Fantasia: You can't always get what you wantAretha Franklin is giving Fantasia Barrino a little lesson in "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" after the young star skipped the Grammys because she wasn't asked to participate in the show's tribute to the Queen of Soul. "They were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite," Fantasia told BET's "106 & Park." "So I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing." But according to Franklin, Fantasia better think before she acts.
“I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my GRAMMY Tribute this year," Franklin said in a statement to CNN. "I recall that in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute." Franklin continued, "Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like participate in. I’m sure it was not an intentional omission. I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit.” When we got in touch with Fantasia's manager about Franklin's statements, he declined comment.

Fantasia needs to straighten out her life before she takes on anything like the Grammy's. Girl, you're NOT all that & I really don't think anyone missed you at the show. Stay home & take care of your kids, Lord knows with a family like yours, she's gonna need all the support she can get.

It a shame Ms Franklin had to single out Fantasia and attempt to embarrass her front of her fans. Ms Franklin is way out of line with her comments as is Fantasia. The need to bury the hatchet and stop calling each other out just because they are black. This little spat only confirms both of them being the racists they are.

Well a few reasons for her to be left out would be having an affair w/ a married man, then getting an abortion THEN trying to kill herself. That's why the GRAMMY folks didn't want her there. AND it IS racial too , because when white performers do these things, it's overlooked and sometimes H'wood even celebrates them for it (Brad&Angelina). NowAlicia Keys gets a pass though because she LOOKS white- if she wanted to come, they would have welcomed her with open arms. In fact no one ever mentions the fact that she and her current husband began their relationship while HE was married to his first wife. Fantasia must have amnesia when it comes to her scandalous behavior for her to be so indignant about not being asked to perform. Child, please.
Fantasia should have taken part in the tribute, and should have replaced that Florence chick.
First of all Aretha Franklin looks great for just having a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She can also say what she wants, she was being honored...not Fantasia.

Aretha's comment isn't derogatory. Fantasia has participated in previous Aretha tributes and felt slighted when not asked to participate in this one. As a result of not attending she missed her moment as she was not present to receive her grammy. This is not a racial issue.
Maybe miss franklinfeels that way because of her health situation she might want to feel better than she possibly can at this point in life

I agree with you Tedd. Older African Americans are sometimes prejudiced against our own people. This is left over from the days of segregation. The white people hold us back e en though we have overcome.

What do you mean the older blacks are prejudice against blacks now? They lived it. They had to go through some tough times and they overcame it. You younger ones didn't overcome anything. The older ones worked hard to pave a better path for you younger ones. And you have the audacity to blame them and the whites for your short comings! If you have overcome then why are you still blaming society? That isn't overcoming, that is dwelling on the past and holding a grudge. What blame every white person and successful black out there for all the problems? Not every white person is out to get you and look at a successful black person as an inspiration and not as a sellout.
