James Van Der Beek to play James Van Der Beek

We’re all quite familiar with James Van Der Beek’s sensitive side (will the crying gif ever get old?), but this time around, he’s going to try to make you laugh.

According to Deadline.com, the 33-year-old actor has been cast in what could be his first regular comedy, a pilot for ABC called “Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23.” (No, seriously – that’s what it’s called.)

The plot line focuses on June, played by “The Good Wife’s” Dreama Walker, an “earnest, honest, optimistic girl from the heartland” who has to move in with party girl Chloe in New York City. The sexy yet unstable character, played by Krysten Ritter (“Confessions of a Shopaholic") will also have “the morals of a pirate.”

Van Der Beek has been handed the role of Chloe’s best friend, but will essentially portray a version of himself – kind of like Neil Patrick Harris in the “Harold and Kumar” movies, or “Friends” star Matt LeBlanc in “Episodes.”

Although the role was originally written for Lance Bass, Deadline reports that it’s been completely retooled for Van Der Beek, he of the Funny or Die videos “Vandermemes” and “A-hole For Hire.”

Taking the reins as director will be “Modern Family’s” Jason Winer.

Dawson is kind of funny in Rules of Engagement. Though parts of the movie is pretty gay but what you expect when it stars Van Der Beek.

I think he did really well on the guest staring role on how I met your mother as robin's teenage boyfriend. What was his character's name? He dumped her in their teens for a chick whose parents got a pool, then dumped her again years later for the same chick whose parents got a "jaquz", lol. Good times...

Actually, I remember when he was on As The World Turns. i think he was the one with the most sense as Katie Holmes has her drama with Tom Cruise. Michelle Williams had her drama with her movies and Health Ledger, He did not have cheating, drugs, drinking, womanizing, etc.

you all are morons. he only stabbed his cousin when he was in the sixth grade. later that same year he made a suicide pact with 4 other kids during summer camp but luckily his gun jammed but the other kids were not so lucky. oh and I did hear he burned down a house with an elderly woman inside it last august but it might just be a weird internet rumor.

I think michelle williams has had the best post-DC career. Joshua Jackson has done really well, and Katie Holmes was fantastic. Now she is surrounded by Tom Cruise drama. The girl that played Pacey's crazy girlfriend was on Criminal Minds for awhile. But I agree it is funny that james van der beek has had the least successful career since dawson's creek and he was dawson.

I think he just got big headed with the success of Dawsons Creek and let it get to him. Being young it happens, hope he has learned from it.

Yeah... and Katie Holmes' career is successful how? I know I'd be proud of box office smashes like "Teaching Ms. Tingle" and "Disturbing Behavior". What career are you looking at dude? She hasn't got one.
