Agreed. The Grammy's are awards given to the "artists" who were sold to America. Basically a year end corporate celebration. "Look how well we did at duping America!" The best in the business were either watching in disgust, touring, or working on more great music that will not be recognized.
Wrong. The Grammys nomination process begins with industry insiders who are members of the Academy; artists, musicians, songwriters, engineers, etc. The voting is done by the same people. It has nothing to do with sales. Funny how there are people commenting here who are on both sides of the spectrum. Some say, "I've never heard of these artists" while others are saying the awards are linked to sales.
Once in a blue moon, a good American song/music will appear, but lately, IMO, the music in America has been sucking. Or am I mistaken? I did not know of Lady Antebellum until today (and I am yet to hear the winning song). Maybe there is good music out but it is being overshadowed by celebrity drama?

1) Record sales are at an all time low because this is the digital music age.

3) Music is a form of art. Art is purely subjective. The way you see "real music" might not be the way others see.

Is it just me? It seems that Christina Aguilera can not hit a single note and hold it on pitch. Each time she has to hold a note for more than a quarter note, she adjusts up, down, back up past the original, back down past the original, and just sounds like a bad attempt at being, "Gospel." I would love it, just once, to hear the girl sing any song with even as little as a WHOLE NOTE, not even a measure, just a whole note, and remain in one pitch, that is if she can find the original pitch that was written. She really stood out amongst the talent up there paying tribute to the Queen, but NOT in a good way. Oh, and her own personal mic and stand? C'mon, REALLY? Nobody else needed a prop.
Cee Lo and Eminem should have won at least one more grammy. Cee Lo got really robbed for song of the year!

Bobby Mcferrin didn't get a single award for his work on Vocabularies..pure injustice! There is no chorale/classical crossover/or vocal album released last year that's more technically superior than Vocabularies..none!..the people who decide the winners just don't know!..these awards are given based on fame and not quality output..

The music industry is a mess. Most music is nothing more than beat box auto tuned crap. It all sounds the same. There is little to no recognition for singer- songwriters anymore. I was personally glad to see Lady Gagme or Katy Perry did not win the big awards. I wish maybe Eminem would have won a little more, but the Arcade Fire Album of the year win gave me some hope for the future.
If you accept less you get less, demand better and you will get better!

I've been a fan of them since the set list for Guitar Hero 3 was announced and they were on it with Knights of Cydonia, and having not heard of them before, looked them up online. They put on an amazing live show too. Though I'm a little disappointed that there was no love for the new Santana album...

@mb: obviously you had not listened to his Recovery album for you to believe this. probably his BEST album TO DATE and far from what you believe to be the case. he was definitely snubbed from winning that award. he has had 3 songs on that album hit #1 on one chart or another (including billboard 100).

Yes, Hawaiian music has its own category. It's so much more different than music from any other state, enough to basically be a different country.

I listen to a wide variety of musical styles and I have no idea who most of the people at the top of the list. I went to listen to several of the winners on itunes and many of them were either boring and unimaginative or outright sucked. Just because someone isn't on mainstream radio or internet radio (e.g., Clear Channel) or is on an indie station DOESN'T make them good. I like a good rare find as much as anyone, but some (though not all) of these performers just plain suck. What happened to real music? When did the Grammies start recognizing unknown hacks? Esperanza Spalding is an interesting new artist and Danger Mouse and many others near the bottom of this list get kudos though.
