Kate Middleton and Ellen DeGeneres are cousinsEllen DeGeneres better start practicing her wedding dance. The talk show host has just discovered that she's related to Kate Middleton, reports E! Online, and now she is determined to attend the British bride-to-be's upcoming nuptials. On Thursday's show, DeGeneres said she received a letter from the New England Genealogical Society, which, she joked, "I thought was from my lady doctor," and it revealed that she and Middleton are 15th cousins. "Hold onto your crumpets, everybody — this is really exciting," DeGeneres told her audience before reading the letter aloud.
"Our trusty genealogists have been at work on Kate Middleton's genealogy with the big royal wedding coming up," it said. "As we were doing the research we discovered that you're related to Kate via a man named Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife, Agnes Gascoigne. You are distant cousins — you're 15th — but cousins still the same." For her part, DeGeneres couldn't be more thrilled and she is certain she'll snag an invite to see her newfound relative exchange vows with Prince William on April 29. "I'm definitely invited to the wedding now!" she kidded. "So, Kate — Cuz — let me know where you're registered... because I have a Pier 1 and a Target real, real close to my house. And let me know if you need me to plan the bachelorette party, because I found some straws that are shaped like... well, never mind."

Sorry Ellen, I don't think Kate puts much stock in anything past the 10th considering she and her husband-to-be are 12th cousins, once removed. But the good news is, you're far enough removed to be a potential spouse, if all goes horribly wrong with William... and Portia.
I am sensing that Ellen really is not taking this too seriously and in the end this is just one of the light hearted articles anyways. If there is anyone who really would get excited about being 15th cousin to some famous person, well really, you need to find something a bit closer to feel better about yourself with.
But the jokes Ellen made about it were funny and made me smile.

Is that THE Sir Thomas Fairfax. Commander in Chief of the New Model Army, "Fairfax, whose name in arms through Europe rings"? If so, Kate Middleton's ancestor played a major role in deposing and (although he disapproved of this) executing a King of England. . . . And she is now. . . . This gives ME hope!

Yeah, I found out I am related to Nancy Astor, once married to the the wealthiest man in American...Waldorf (as in Waldorf-Astoria)...we share a common grand parent...Hannah Fox of 1671, her 7th is my 11th great grandmother...so I wonder if Ellen thinks the same thing as me...like hey, where is my share??...lol jk.... Just fun family facts...Nancy Astor's country home was used as a hospital during WW I or II, not sure...and owned the Cliveden House....geez...
Ellen must be so excited, being a relative of the royal family. I'm sure she will bring a lot of laughter to a family who is otherwise somewhat reserved. I think Ellen and Kate will get along famously!
