After weeks of shameless flirting, Ted and Zoey finally got together on last night’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother” - all thanks to Katy Perry and… Colonel Mustard.
Though I can’t say I’m happy about the prospect of Ted and a Captain-less Zoey getting together, “Oh Honey” was classic “HIMYM.”
Did anyone else notice that the cast members were each dressed in the color of his or her Clue counterpart? Perry made the perfect Miss Scarlet in her revealing red dress.
The story, told through Marshall’s telephone conversations from his bedroom in Minnesota, followed the non-linear, different points-of-view format successfully executed by the show in past seasons.
Perry, who guest-starred as Zoey’s hot cousin, acted as a small but crucial part of the episode - just like Britney Spears did in 2008 when she played Stella’s receptionist Abby.
And given the character’s extreme gullibility, Perry executed the ditzy role perfectly.
“I just had a great TV audition behind the KFC where the executive producer works on weekends,” she said. “Long story short, I’m going to be on ‘Lost.’ ”
(But then, Perry strolls through a candy-filled forest of talking gummy bears and cotton candy clouds in her own music video. Perhaps Honey wasn’t such a stretch.)
Only a TV show like “HIMYM,” which uses humor to acknowledge unrealistic extremes, could pull off such a plotline.
Barney also shared a dynamic moment with Perry’s character. After she flips his famous, “Who’s your daddy” line on him in the bedroom, he breaks down in tears. “I don’t know,” he cries. This, of course, coincides with the show’s recent announcement that John Lithgow will soon appear as Barney’s birth father.
Marshall’s mother and brother listening in on his phone conversations and periodically commenting on Ted’s romantic status also added a nice touch. But it was their game of clue, using Colonel Mustard as a stand-in for Kyle MacLachlan's The Captain, that really made it.
Upon realizing that both Zoey and Ted have feelings for one another, Marshall relayed the news to NYC, saving the day.
I wonder how that relationship will play out.
What did you think of last night’s episode? How did Katy Perry do?
