'Fletch' to return to the big screen

Ace reporter Fletch will be snooping his way around the big screen again. Warner Bros. has announced that it is planning to reboot the popular '80s film franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Chevy Chase starred in the original two "Fletch" movies, which were based on Gregory McDonald's mystery novels about investigative journalist I.M. Fletcher.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith tried for over a decade to revamp the franchise with an adaptation of "Fletch Won" — with everyone from Ben Affleck to Jason Lee to Joshua Jackson being eyed for the lead —but the project eventually fizzled out.

No word yet on who is being considered to headline the Warner Bros. film or when it will be released.

Who would you like to see play Fletch? Tell us in a comment below.

    My favorite picks in order:

    1. Jason Lee
    2. Dane Cook
    3. Robert Downey Jr.
    4. Ryan Reynolds (only if you can't get any of the first three!)

Chase is still funny as all heck, but he's too old now.

I don't care what you say about him, Chevy Chase was darn near a comedic god in the days of Fletch. I love comebacks...let him be the wizened but still crazy Fletch! We're not talking about the next Avatar here...let Chevy do it!

Re-boot is Hollywood speak for "out of ideas". I'm gonna show up at my engineering job at the Intel facility I work at and say "We're just gonna keep layout as it is, and not update any tools or equipment, K?" Bet I get fired.
How about this, do your jobs and come up with some new material.

Chevy Chase's co-star on NBC's great show Community would be a perfect match for the Fletch role. Joel McHale has great comedic timing and wit.....things that made Chase a star.

My vote would be for Bill Hader. I think it would be cool to follow suit with another SNLer and he would be perfect with all of the different characters and accents. The guys is great and I think it's about time he gets his big shot. I do have to say that I overall agree with Dave. Do we REALLY need to remake the Fletch series? Is it going to be better than the first? No. Hollywood needs to re-imagine it's imagination.

    Then,

    Josh Duhamel
    Ashton Kutcher
    Kevin James
    Will Smith

Ryan Reynolds IS the new Chevy Chase. I say Ryan, just think of his timing and performance in the original Van Wilder and you'll know he's a solid fit

Here's an idea: Why don't you idiots think up NEW ideas for movies. When you're remaking B movies, it's time to call it quits.

I agree here too... I'm tired of the "revamps" on all the old movies being done!!! How about something original! Seems like we only get that every other year and it is hit or miss! Even Avatar was a different take on Pocohontas!

If he wasn't doing Green Lantern injustice I would say Ryan Reynolds because he could fit the "Chevy" mold a bit... however since his career will be in the tank soon I would say Will Ferrall

I agree... his wit and comic delivery make him the best posible choice amongst current Hollywood Celebs... If he is not available or otherwise interested in the role perhaps an unknown would be best to spear head this one!

Truth be told... i think Ryan will need something to make up for the upcoming Grenn Lantern which I do not feel will be as big a hit as some may think.
