Jason Mraz: No wedding till gay marriage is legal

Despite getting engaged in December, Jason Mraz has no intention of walking down the aisle with girlfriend Tristan Prettyman anytime soon, reports Us Weekly.

"We can't get married until [gay] marriage is legal and equal... I think giving people the right to marry will be a huge movement in civil rights," 33-year-old Mraz said last week at Elton John's Concert to Benefit the American Foundation for Equal Rights. "The wedding would be nice for our family, our friends, our community — our moms especially — and so it puts us in the fight."

Despite delaying his "I dos," the "I'm Yours" singer insisted his relationship with Prettyman, 28, is far from over.

"We both feel that in our engagement, we have a union that's really special and can't be broken," he said. "It's a sacred bond."

What a great thing to do. Very admirable. More people need to step up and take a personal decision to stand up for everyone's human rights.

Everyone has their reasons for holding off on marriage. Whether these are actually reasons or are simply excuses is up to debate. At Cupid's Pulse we listed 3 of the top reasons why couples really should prolong their engagements. Take a look at the link below to see these reasons. Some of these reasons may apply to you or even a close friend.

That is insane...isn't that what Charlize Theron and Stuard Townsend quoted before they broke up? Marriage is a sacred union between a MAN and WOMAN.

Why do we even care what religion or government thinks about our relationships? Get government out of marriage and we will all be better off. More freedom for everyone. Government free marriage now!

R U CRAZY? I was just wondering if you realized all the disease and mass caoss that would come with being free and open to marry who you want or the melestations that would take place. Think about things next time before you as for them.

@ susanne he isnt saying they are getting married maybe you should re read this but he just doesnt plan on getting married till there is more equailty so the engagement isnt "hypocritical" and doesnt it start with just one person to try and make a change so why is it so wrong for them to wait

If you aren't getting married, you have no business getting engaged. It's hypocritical! Or did you think that all of the governing bodies within the US would feel sorry for you and your "fiancee" and change the laws right away? LOL This whole thing is hilarious!

They might stay together longer without getting married. Why spend a million bucks on a wedding to divorce a year later like so many "stars".

I'm not understanding these people who won't get married until gay marriage is legalized. The truth is I really don't think anyone cares. It's not that profound of a statement. So basically, I won't get married because gay people can't. That just doesn't make since to me. I think Brad and Angelina are on the same bandwagon. Guess what? None of you all make that big of a difference, like lawmakers are all of a sudden going to say, "Oh boy we've got a mess on our hands! Brangelina and Jason Mraz won't get married unless we legalized gay marriage. Let's get right on that!" Give me a break!

This guy is a genius. Since no one cares what Mraz thinks, he can effectively stay unmarried for the rest of his life. He has also created a great pickup line for the bars.

"I'd love to get settled down someday with a wonderful woman, but I just won't do it until there are equal rights for all. Can I get you another vodka red bull?"

Straight people using the gay agenda as an excuse to not marry – hahahahahahaha. How pc of them. I'm sure the loss of freedom and the thought of losing their shirt in a divorce have nothing to do with it.

Agree completely. Once gay marriage is a fait accompli, it will be "I won't wed until the menage a trois is made legal! And incest! And people who want to marry their llamas! MAWWAGE FO' EVWEEWUN! ('cept me.)"
